Even though I love the idea of these tents I'm not sure about the application of them. Tents are not the easiest things to hide. Even in the mod when we could place them almost exactly where we wanted that were still easy to find, mostly because of the stupid texture they used for them. Once you're about 100m from any tent, they'll stick out like a sore thumb so who's going to use them? If they are so easily found, they'll be easily looted. I can't think of a use for a large tent, let alone a small one because I know it's going to get looted so why put my things in it? If they're so insecure, why put them in?

I'd rather not have a KD and the focus to be squarely on the survival choices you've made and how long you've lived. KD is more a way to measure yourself in TvT twitch shooters - you want to be killing more people than kill you but in DayZ - who gives two shits what it is. I hope the Devs realise this and keep all things "KD" related away from the scores.

In the mod running speed was never an issue and won't be an issue when they slow everything down a lot. Stop sprinting now and start running so you can get used to it.
-
One of my "Sergeants" was demoted to Corporal because he decided to make his guys sprint across a field in the dark in full gear except there were a shit ton of injuries. Broken ankles being the worst but you get the picture.

And we'll follow the tracks of those tears and butcher them where they sleep :D

A lot of things they got done but I want this one! Advanced weather effects Snow and FogWeather will affect playerBallistics affected by weather

No. Never let the players decide anything, that's one great way of losing your core game values and I'll try to explain why I think that is. I think Dean is a bit of a visionary in that he has a vision for his game and future games and when you have a vision, you want your game to play out a certain way. Games today are so much more than they were when we were all kids. Today's games are more experience's, more like movies. People probably don't realise it but games are a medium as powerful as books or films, in that you can say something with them. Some games are made purely for profit by greedy corporations too, but then so are movies and books. I have a mate that plays Archeage. I've never liked MMO's but looking at this one I was going to give it a go. All that changed when they let cheaters keep their ill gotten gains and started throwing the things you work for onto the market where you can just buy them. On their forums they're arguing about "my right to buy what I want" vs. "my right to put in hard work to get that item" - selling it just makes working for it pointless. Now, both parties are "playing the game how they want" but if you want to farm polar bears to get a mount, that has just been made trivial and pointless. This isn't the only thing and it is directly affecting the game and people are leaving. You can't have carte blanche to play however you want because sometimes it works against the game you're playing. 1 month after release (and tbh, it's more the game devs fault than anything) and people are leaving what was probably, or going to be, the greatest MMO to date. The stories my friend told me of battling for a castle, rampaging across the seas sound amazing but I'm not even going to bother now because of the direction the game is now going. Pity that :(

This and I hope the devs implement something. They have "stamina" listed in the road map so hopefully this will have something to do with how much you carry. This would also make cars more valuable and give you choices. Do you carry a huge backpack filled up but you're slow. However, you don't want to use a car because it's stands out. Or do you leave most of your gear at your camp, only taking essential items and travel light in the hope of filling the pack. Are you going to travel at night by car with the lights off to do a raid on the airfield? It adds a lot of dynamics to the game. If you get ambushed and you've made it to cover, do you eat and drink as much as you can from your pack before you try to escape - that extra energy could mean the difference of you making it out alive. Do you dump gear to lighten your load, or do you dump your pack, hiding it in a bush to hopefully find it later? When your pack has a direct impact on how you move, it changes the whole fighting dynamic.

Yeah I'm certainly not against them. It would be cool to be able to run faster for longer if I run everywhere vs a guy who drives everywhere, say, and does no exercise. What I'd abhor is "You have reached level 5 fishing skill" - this would be a disaster in DayZ. The soft skills need to be unnoticable, like in the background (edit) and have nothing to do with combat or any other thing related - but I suppose "soft" means that, that they aren't major skills. Once they go down that route though it could open a huge can of worms. All of the other things go with the mod and the game already - this one could be the most damaging which is why we need full disclosure on what they mean.
-
Or voice concerns now in an attempt to stop them putting in something crap they've invested too much time into to take out.
-
I haven't judge them - a little weird to say that. I was giving my opinion of them now because there's little point do that after they've been added.

I don't know about "skills" in games. Why can't you make the game make "me" learn how to play it and get skilled at it rather than having a statistic take care of it? As for dying, I think most people who have invested hours into the game getting geared up feel enough loss - this is what made DayZ the game it is - the sudden realisation that the dangerous situation you just walked into could lose you everything you spent time over to some asshole that would rape your body if he killed you and what was that noise? Oh, it was your heart beating so fast. There was the elation of winning too, wondering what spoils you were about to loot of the guy you just dropped which could make your jaw drop as you stared at the screen "you are dead" - shouldn't have just rushed in to grab the gear - should have checked first lol. DayZ brought these emotions out of you, the sense of loss is already there we don't need skills added on top of that, even though I am partial to the idea of them. If they can't make fishing or whatever skills into a sub-game you need to practice to get good at then maybe skills could be a good thing - I just think they're a cheap and a shortcut.

Character life span + soft skills ?

Those of us that crawled 2 miles just to get morphine to mend a broken leg have no use for run speeds,

Well bollocks let's just all petition for teleporters and be done with it! ;)

Quick! Where do I find a stick to make a bow?
-
They need to add at least one iconic car from the mod :) oh, and this.....
-
I've killed a hundred noobs like you.....Then I wander back into the forest, or the next town...wherever I need to go to get my next lot of supplies. Berries are real tasty too - I eat the blue ones because I'm tough as nails would you like some? I also let zombies spit in my mouth just to test my immune system and I use the alcoholic tincture as a suppository..... :P Seriously, don't go around talking shit about things you don't know about. The game in it's current state is so easy it's boring so let's wait until release to see who is eating tomatoes from their greenhouse outside of Vybor and who is being used for fertilizer! lol :) OK when I get home tonight I'm loading up DayZ - I want me a bow! I need an axe dammit I traded one for a hoe.... wait a minute, this is weird, to make my tomatoes...... grow That's the god's honest truth, bro, and no, A poem at the time of writing this was not my intention it just formed itself, like a self creating invention! But moving on as I lack the time, I know I'll need some string or vine, To make my bow and add a stick, But finding one I'm rather thick, Do I chop a tree or just grope some bush? Either way it's all good. I just need wood.... and string. maybe a feather or two

Nope - I think the people that actually want to play this game type can't wait for the people that want to just PVP to leave. It's like if I go to watch a movie or read a book, I expect comedy from a comedy but in your world, you want me to watch a horror.

This. You just listed off the most important items in the game except you forgot the can opener ;) It's amazing what you will find in a city that's been ransacked - it's like everyone checks the same places, then after several empty houses give up and move on but every time I've done a thorough search of an area I always find something people have missed. I haven't played for a couple of months, are there enough chickens for arrows?

I can guarantee you that on a busy server and with the game's way of rendering things after 3 days someone found your tent. A big, blue blob standing out from miles around on an area "WAY" out there that isn't anymore. Way out there used to be a 2km hike into the north or west of the map and then a 20km hike around the entire edge. Now that BIS decided to rape the land, there's not even half the area to hide a tent on. In the original mod there were only a few places to truly hide a tent - there's so many obvious places and people will look there but after a while it makes the less obvious places stand out because there's so few. Also, in the mod you could place a tent almost anywhere except right now, the tent is placed for you - they didn't even make them a colour that blended in. As it stands right now, you'll never hide a tent for more than a few days in DayZ - people will go looking for them.

There is simply no argument to keep the running speed as it is and it was a mistake putting it in to begin with as most people will be running around. If people can't occupy their minds whilst they travel from place to place then that's their problem. As other people have said, movement speed should be based on weight - ground too - you shouldn't be able to run through water. The people that will complain the most are the pvp'ers who want to gear up and get to their favourite city as quickly as possible so they can start pew-pewing. These people have no place in a game like this. If the devs were smart with each new patch they would slow the running speed down a little.

Jex replied to kim's topic in Troubleshooting
My mate logged in and fell through the floor of one of those raised houses. Anyway after trying V and proning and all that he just started punching a wall in a corner and 30 seconds later he was back outside again :)
