Ping is only a measure of time for your data to reach the server and come back again. That's 3/tenths of a second, quicker than any human being can react. Assuming an unbroken, steady connection, I don't see why you should suffer anything that badly for a 300ms ping.

So yeah, about that new Alcatraz island............
Jex replied to darkrider400's topic in General Discussion
Ok I haven't played dayz for maybe 2 months but I'm assuming this on on the big island? So did they just bung a load of existing buildings down, like it looks in the pics, or maybe I was missing the part where the map maker gave a shit and actually wanted to put some unique buildings on there? I mean, creativity IS a concept that BIS want isn't it? Did we just get a 4 year old with some playdo? WTF is going on? -
No, canned food is entirely edible you don't need to cook a thing and if anything, you're just reheating the contents because it's nicer when it's warmer. I'm not so fussed about canned food being available. What I want to see is each month, the devs drop the numbers a little until canned food is super rare.

Why is such a drastic increase in enterable buildings considered a good thing?

Tents is SA are horrible. The placement mechanic looks so shoddy, the colour and shape, just everything about them spells "wrong". I have only seen videos of the tents, never used one yet but from what I've seen I'm not impressed. Where on earth are you going to "hide" a blue tent since the countryside has all but vanished? People think they can hide a tent - I can tell you that probably isn't the case unless you find a glitch. Having extensive experience from the mod in finding little bright green tents you could place anywhere, the bigger tents are going to be easier for 2 reasons - 1) You can't place them exactly where you want, the game decides that for you (awful mechanic) and 2) Hardly any places left to put them. Bring back stashes please! FFS we want a place we can hide our shit - how the fuck can the devs NOT know this??? It needs a ton more buildings and the north is totally fucked now. Ran along it with my mate and the wilderness has gone, the hills have gone, it just kind of goes flat. It's still a good map regardless of the rape, don't get me wrong it's just shittier now but could have been better. -

Not sure if addressed but I think I might be able to shed some light on the OP as there seems to be some confusion. If you have a million rooms in a town, the chances of you meeting another player is next to zero, simply because you can easily miss each other and that is probability for you. If you have less rooms, the chances go up right? So the OP is saying that because of so many enterable buildings, the chance to miss other players is increased which makes sense. If each town had only 5 buildings to loot, the chances of seeing another player as you come into town is incredibly high. Make it 100 buildings and you can see the chance lowers itself. Also, some of the buildings we would all flock to in the mod (Can I say stores are next to useless now?) don't hold the same value as they used to, decreasing the chance of player encounter further as we spread out because any building can have something we want :) -
If you cook boar don't forget to pick apples - apple sauce! ;)

No screw em lol - we want to have to eat combinations of foods and have a detrimental effect if we don't eat a balanced diet otherwise why bother putting all the foods in there? As it goes right now, I always eat a balanced meal as much as I can (I'm sure they said in the past we'd need to eat a balanced meal). So I'll have a steak, then I'll eat a potato and a courgette followed by some fruits and usually you don't need much drink after that.

The entire map has taken a few wrong turns imo. The removal of Podeba Dam and replacing it with the joke pond was a shitty move. They could have added to that spot of natural beauty but instead they put in a copy/paste town. Let's just hope to god they don't rape Three Valleys. The map has become larger - I think by this you meant that now, with 10,000 more rooms to search it is bigger, right, and I'd agree. I refuse to go into the apartments because they literally do my nut in. I cannot stand them and there's only ever a can of beans in the whole fucking lot and what moron designed them? The towers of boring......zzzzzzzz Personally they could have made a couple more towns at most (they still have shit to add up north btw - they ain't finished yet), fleshed out some of the villages and then put "places of interest" around the map. An old carnival/fun fair, a mine or cave complex (the one they added doesn't really cut it), a huge mansion in it's own grounds - basically points of interesting buildings that were different from the rest which would be fun and creepy to explore. Also, GREEN MOUNTAIN! If they don't develop that far more (they've done nothing with it) then I don't know what to say. Green Mountain is an icon of DayZ. A large problem is a lot of players don't appreciate the work that goes into building a world. They just want buildings to search through and don't have the imagination to appreciate the open parts of the country nor what it offers. -
As far as I'm concerned, cooking doesn't go far enough! I often cook for my friends and am quite partial to a bit of flamboyance. Right now, all I can do is serve Zucchini with steak and and tomatoes (the tomatoes are meant to be a sauce but all we can do is eat my meals in a specific order to simulate my culinary skills) then after that a fruit pie made from berries, apple, banana and kiwi's with a bottle of rasputin wine....or so I make every imagine!! So yes, some attempt at allowing me to actually cook with ingredients would be welcomed... :P

The issue with the FOV slider is that is needs to be fixed between 60 and 90 degrees (or whatever) - this easy fix will negate people using it to zoom in with and for the life of me, who set the initial values to what they are right now? Somebody (A think it was a numpty) made a conscious decision to make the FOV that configurable - why?

We'll see what happens. DayZ has been out for a long time now. People are used to it and it's not new. H1Z1 has just been launched and people are excited about it. This is because there hasn't been a decent zombie survival game yet. H1Z1 release day and the zombies are crap and buggy - that's been fixed in what, a week? They have different zombie types and you get hordes and the zeds have different AI too. Now H1Z1 may not be right now the best game of it's genre but where is it going to be in 6 months time or a year from now? As long as the Pay 2 Win element is removed and they can deliver more of what they want then it might be the game everyone moves to and if DayZ can't keep up then that's just the way it goes. People will flock to the game that gives them the better Zombie experience. So now we have H1Z1 out, we'll see the rate of progress between the two - the race is on I guess :)

I'm not that sure so have to test it but if my Inv is full and I pick up a pickaxe say and then hit the red X - sometimes I see it at the bottom of my inventory on the right. I move away and then switch to a weapon and the pickaxe is dropped where I am, not where I was.

I love the hold button down idea which should go for all animations (especially drinking water from wells/ponds). With food, making you lose a percentage is ok but who cares if the difference is 10%. With so much food around, and even if there wasn't, would it really make that much of a difference? Time is something though everyone values. A screw driver or knife can open a can but nowhere near as fast as a can opener. This makes the right tool for the job the one you always want to find. Right now, a can opener should be the valued item for opening cans but it isn't - there's loads of other items that can do it almost as good. Reloading is another thing. Many people have argued, incorrectly, that using R to reload loose rounds shouldn't be implemented. It's an incorrect argument because the focus should be on the time it takes to do compared to RL. If you have loose rounds in a pocket, you press (or hold down) R and it animates grabbing each individual round and loading them. This is way more authentic than dragging ammo onto a gun which hardly takes anytime at all. If your ammo is in your backpack, then the backpack should have to come off the back first...... Time is a commodity, especially when the shit hits the fan and it also gives those a benefit who manage their inventory wisely. For instance, I have a bandage in my backpack, my pants and my jacket. My ammo is split the same way too because I know that if I put them all in one place, they can all get ruined and I'm screwed. Left your ammo in your backpack? Guess what! Your Avatar has to go through the animation of taking it off and placing it on the ground where only now, you can access it. Things that take time cost players more in a lot of things and should be added to the existing mechanics.

Rather than loose contents of the food, I'd much prefer they raised the time to open it. Why does everything need to be done in 10 seconds. If i'm going to use a pickaxe, make it take me a fucking whole minute - can opener is 5 seconds. That gives all the items much more importance when things take longer to do and is realistic!

Yep, fireplaces need to be useable. I keep checking them every now and then lol and layers is a must - they don't even need to show them all, just always show the top layer of the clothing so you could have t-shirt, hoody, jacket. Take the jacket off and the hoody can now be seen. By making the underclothing invisible, you get rid of clipping issues.

Hmmmmm...... Well, there was this one time I was trying to axe a deer to death with my mate except rather than help me out, he just decided to laugh his ass off watching me try and catch it. LOL it must have been pretty funny thinking about it - watch me try to creep through bushes and crawl then leap up to attack... ^_^

If you're holding an item and press the X to drop it, unless things have changed in a couple of months that item is still attached to you in ghost land. You can test this out by equiping a weapon in your hand which then force drops the item on the ground. It's like having an extra inventory slot.

WTF???????????????? You haven't played for a year and you haven't noticed anything new bar 3 items? LMAO maybe you should go stick your head in a fridge or something....

Love Macks Corner and WaB but in that YT video is also a link to his "Nether" update which basically states the game is still just as shit as most of us here thought it would be. I saved myself the price of the game though :) Going to by PZ later.

Well that dispels the myth that some people have around here of bows.
-
I tried throwing a hoe at a deer. I hit it and the deer ran but it didn't kill it but the hoe just kept on going lol. I couldn't find it for another try but wonder if throwing things at them will kill them.

Is malnutrition confirmed? Can we get fat or thin? If not, why not and why did beards beat this into the road plan. I like the idea of beards but I think we need other things in the game first?
