    Realistic Action Times Please

Berries and bushes take a while and certain things should take time, which of course the player should be able to cancel anytime should a situation arise. 30 seconds or even a minute is nothing when it only has to be done once or a few times. Loads of people grind for hours in MMO's but in MMO's there's no short cut. In DayZ, you don't want to spend as long doing things, get the right tool for the job and you're good. This then promotes players to explore more until they've found all the top tier items (and I'm suddenly reminded I haven't seen a can opener in weeks....) and gives more value to the items. If all you have is an axe and it takes you 30 seconds to open a can then you come across a knife and it takes you 20 seconds you'll notice the difference right away and you'll appreciate a lot more than saving 18% of the food. Cooking steaks takes ages and I like it lol. They just need to add the sound of the fire and the sizzle of the meat ;)
  2. So I spawned in with a new character and I'm on the top of the construction building when I hear a zombie aggro. I run over to the stairs and look down them, only to see it running up to get me. If have nothing at this point but there is a ladder I can get down so I run over to it. I'm just starting the descent as the zombie gets to the top of the stairs and laughs as I make my way to the bottom then look up at the zombie and say, "Hahaha dickwad now who's the loser!" (something like that). I then smugly turned around. And walked off the edge and broke my legs and the zombie ate me.

    Realistic Action Times Please

Well not necessarily. Right now the food loss isn't a deterent to opening anything with a screwdriver or whatever. There's so much food it's not an issue. I spawned in yesterday in a small village in the center of the map and almost every house out of 20 had 2 or 3 food items in them. I left them because my backpack was already crammed with food. There is also an argument to say we shouldn't lose any food at all. I never lost any using a knife, sure as hell wouldn't with a screwdriver so why is this in when the obvious problem with the wrong tools is how long it will take you. I don't get how this isn't obvious from the start. Have the devs never opened cans with anything but can openers? Do they realise that it's pretty easy to do - it just takes longer? So we have a mechanic in a game nobody gives a shit about, losing a little food. So it makes it pointless and needs to be removed. If the game is going to get to the point where you need that 15% of beans you spilled to live, nobody is going to be playing this game a week after they implement that. So we can be pretty sure here that we've made a case for scrapping the stupid food loss. That then leave the case wide open for implementing the length of time actions take. I guarantee you this will make everyone want the right tool for the job. If they have to spend 30 seconds opening a can of beans and can find something that takes 5 seconds, they are going to take it and treasure it - fact. Right now the can opener is pointless because I have a stone knife which I think will probably open a can. If it doesn't, I'll grab a kitchen knife. I need a knife anyway to gut animals so right now, I can save a slot by dropping the can opener because they have made it completely useless. All it does is take up an inventory slot. The can opener is used here because it's the most blatant and easiest example to use but this will apply to every single tool across the game. Need to screw something, use a knife and take 40 seconds or a screwdrivers and take 10 seconds. You can think of loads of things this would work in DayZ and it should be implemented because finding the right item for the job you want makes you feel good when you find it and we want good experiences in a game :) Wow rambled on there, sorry lol

    Any plans for 3PP immersion?

Except that's a very subjective post and whilst you may not use it in a cheap way, practically everyone else is and people do hide behind things and then pop out when you're in the open. I prefer to play games where if they can see me, I can see them or if I'm in combat with my friends, we can move up without having the magic camera to view our movements. The biggest part though is immersion. Why do people want a 3rd person perspective? Why do u feel you need an invisible camera floating above your head. The game plays perfectly fine in 1pp too. There's no more motion sickness than any other FPS that people seem to play perfectly well. I just don't get the need to play with a crutch when you can view things through your eyes and everything is just so much more like being there :)

    The Quick Question Thread

Haven't seen silencers for months, thought they were removed?
  6. This is weird because for me, if there's 3 people on the server I always seem to run across them lol The other day I was trying to meet with my friend (BTW get a mate to play with - FFS I can't stress this enough!) so I was on the coast and ran into those small cafe's. It was dark and there were about 15 other players on the server. As soon as I ran through the door, this other player was also running through it at exactly the same time. We passed each other, I crapped my pants and ran around the inside (he was outside) and said "Hello" and he said "hi" back. He seemed friendly enough so I said "You scared the shit out of me" to which he replied the same and we both just laughed our asses off for about 30 seconds. Another time, my mate and I trying to meet up and he's on the coast. He's running along those raised planks that go over the marshes and he sees another player coming towards him. They just ran passed each other, looked over their shoulders and kept on running. Didn't stop or attack or say anything, just probably amazed at the coincidence since other than us two, he was the only other guy on the server LOL. I frikkin bump into every one when there's 3 people on the server. The other night, I'm running down a road at night, minding my own business, 3 other people on the server when the only guy with a truck drives by me. Then 2 minutes later, drives back passed me again! Yeah, I waited for him to come back a 3rd time lol but he didn't. I've been killed so many times because I saw so few people on the server and just assumed the map is huge I won't run into them. The coincidences in this game are freaky. It all started after my first visit to....... *looks around then says in hushed tones* ......green mountain

    Realistic Action Times Please

LOL ur boss was that much of a cheapskate and why didn't anyone just buy one???? They cost nothing (and less if you loot someone else's house.....what, officer?) You may well get faster in RL but we're talking about a game here.

    Any plans for 3PP immersion?

Not if the attacker is hiding behind a rock. Once you know someone is there, it's very easy to stay hidden in 3pp whilst keeping an eye on your prey. What 3pp does is makes it easier for the people that love to KOS and harder for the people that are trying to play the game and survive and aren't interested in finding people to just shoot at.

    Comparing DayZ to similar games.

I just bought myself an i5 quad, 8 gb ram and a gtx570 and so far, on high graphics, the game is running great for me wherever I seem to go. A little drop in the cities but nothing compared to what I was used to on my laptop.
  10. Have they added alternative to rope now or are animals just standing still so you can walk up and kill them?
  11. Jex

    Compass always wrong?

It's about an idiotic dev decision and they still have the town names in English..... Oh and could we possibly have it where we scroll forward to zoom in, like it used to be?
  12. Unfortunately DayZ devs are making the game for people with adhd who can't stand waiting or spending time to do things. In a game like this there is no reason to have the ridiculous movement speeds we have right now and they should grow a pair and change it.

    The Quick Question Thread

Can you fill gasoline cans with water?
  14. Jex

    Gasoline revenge on bandits?

When I read the thread title, I thought we could pour petrol over people and set light to them. BBQ bandit and what a revenge!

    Any plans for 3PP immersion?

I just upgraded my PC. What has this got to do with anything? Well, now that I can run at high graphics settings from pretty much the lowest, and track-ir runs so smoothly, being in 1pp has taken on a new level of immersion. I liked the ability to look at my AV when the graphics were shit, for some reason but now that I have a rig that can kick out decent graphics, wow! I can't stand 3pp now (I gave up playing 3pp servers ages ago anyway because of the exploit). It's so much less immersive - with the graphics up at high it makes me want to see through my avatar's eyes.
  16. Well they spoke about building an underground base in it's own instance - I hope they're sticking to this. Once people know where people start to hide things, they'll go looking in those places. A town might have 100 buildings but during the course of the day or week, each of them will be checked and any door found locked or boarded up is going to be broken into. Once this happens, where are you going to hide your gear next and why bother collecting a bunch of tools for your own use if you come back in a few days and it's all gone. There should never be "safes" where nobody can get in but players need stashes that aren't going to be found in a week. You may think there were no places to hide a tent but there were a few that never got found ;)
  17. I'm expecting some creativity. The map maker did a stellar job with the original map and it was noted as such. The maps is still great except for the inclusion of so many more "urban areas" and if the two of you think there's wilderness left, try looking at the old heat maps for days and you'll see there really isn't a lot of places people don't run and even less places to hide things. Why do we need so many cities?
  18. Well the part where the sea is, in rl, is actually a river and so what if it's realistic. Not all things realistic = good game play or good map design. Seriously, what gives? Why is it better to have 30 cities instead of 20? Good maps offer variety which is being eaten up.
  19. To be fair to the devs, the "apocalyptic look" should be coming after the map is finished so we need to wait and see but I'm with you on the copy/paste crap. They've been working on the map an awful lot too - in all that time, they could have done what we wanted and made a better map with POI to head to which could mean player encounters and more unique buildings? 50 cities which all look the same just spread the players out so much it's ridiculous and I don't know what they're trying to achieve with them/

    Cooking in DayZ

I'm all for adding the affects of heated food but on the subject of canned foods, I want them to become rarer as the months go on otherwise there's hardly any point in farming. A slow, gradual decrease in canned food will make everyone learn how to forage, hunt and grow things to survive :)
  21. I can't figure it out either but once everything is working good, I won't need to go to the bases or airfields because if tents are the only way to store things, I will find yours and I will take all your gear lol :)

    Advanced Question On Ping

You're misrepresenting what I said - you cannot react, as in, you, the whole you and nothing but the you lol. Does your eye play video games or is it your hands that move the controls and your brain interpreting what your eyes see. It's the end result I'm obviously talking about your reaction times and unless you're a floating eyeball, you're incorrect.
  23. Jex

    So I found this cow...

    It's, "udders"
  24. Jex

    Field of view

I wouldn't be too hard on the video guys because the external camera is a good tool for watching and they're on a server where everyone else is cheating so let em have at it. Those who want a true and authentic game with zero cheaters play 1pp...... runs away!
