Screen is unbearably shaky when in 1st person mode
[Gen]Adzic replied to HedonismBot's topic in New Player Discussion
Take some painkillers, hey presto. The game even allows you to overdose as I'm sure there are more than 2 in that box :) -
You been ninja raped Happens when someone comes behind you and steals from your pack, other than you got bug.

There are probably a shit load more things like this, just need a keen eye.. and without forgetting that were in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse, time to look. The map is HUGE.

goodbye side chat...i shall miss thee...
[Gen]Adzic replied to lowerplains's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Rocket has said hes working on a global chat "you have to find" so it's probably radios. Now that is a good idea :) Unable to globally chat until you find a radio, Just like your unable to shoot someone until you find a gun.. brilliant. -
So I logged in today after a great game yesterday to find I have spawned into the debug forest, not good man, not good :( I am lucky enough to have found most inventory tools map, compass, matches, watch.. ya know all that good stuff and have got guns/food/ammo and firewood.. and lucky enough unlike the water spawn bug, seem to have kept them all in this weird zone. So yeah, I want to get back to the map and really dont want to lose my stuff so my question is can I run the distance from this debug forest and back to Chernarus, I have made a map marker to the very edge and it is 24776m away, I know it will take quite a long while to get there, is it possible? However, If do it and manage to get there without running out of food and water will I just respawn back in that forest after leaving and relogging? do I have to respawn my most successful (to date) character? I hate to think I have lost him :(

Once you get used to the map and can sort of read where you are when you spawn, head for the nearest barn for weapons. Almost 100% guaranteed to find some sort of weapon in them, if not then your unlucky.. and should go to the next nearest barn asap before you die by bandit, Zed or hunger/thirst. Once you have a gun then proceed to nearest town for food/water and other good stuff, now is a good time to search for a map, compass, matches, hatchet ya know things like that. Soon as you have the basic survival tools head north to the inland towns for more safety. It's good that you spawn with no weapon, adds to the survival aspect of the mod.

Wirecutters coming to a server near you!
[Gen]Adzic replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but don't you also need to have a toolbox to be able to do it? -
It worked btw, it was a long run but got there in the end, you need to have enough food and water to make the trip.. I just jammed some paper into my keyboard to hold down the W key and kept an eye on hunger and thirst levels. Sad thing about all this was that last night after surviving this character for almost 2 days, through thick and thin.. I was heading to a hospital for supplies (morphine injections, can never have enough of those) spooked a Zed, had a little chase, tried to lose him to no avail so I just turned around to shoot it and it one hitted me unconscious, as I was trying to get back up it unfortunately did it again while my character was stuck in some sort of weird bandaging like motion.. from over 8000 blood to zero in about 15 seconds.. was so gutted about the ordeal I went searching for my corpse.. I almost made it (in pitch black darkeness) to the spot I died in and BAM, Arma CO has encountered an error and has shut down. I couldn't remember the name of the server I was on and now have lost him along with all my stuff. That was by far the best equipped (NVG's, All available tools and pretty damn good weaponry) and the longest living survivor I have had since I started playing. I will miss that guy :( Oh well better luck next time hey.

Yes, provided you have the space in your pack.. they tend to take up a lot of room and if you don't have enough and try to put it into the pack, the weapon will disappear. Not sure exactly how many slots a Rifle or Sidearm takes, you would have to look it up, but be careful, you wouldn't want an epic gun that you would like to keep on you for backup, vanishing into thin air.

When I have GPS, NVG's and full inventory of good stuff I have collected for a good 2 or 3 days of playtime, been Up North and back a few times, been nearly dead more than 10 times with the same character... even been to debug plains and ran South East for an age to get back to Chernarus.. do I seriously want to take the risk of someone shooting me to just loot all that hard work in an instant? NOT ME THANKS. I tell you now, that's why some people kill other players, having precious items only makes you that much more dangerous. I have found that now I have all this good stuff that I stay away from the rest of humanity because I know I will just shoot before thinking to keep my stuff.

Took me 45 minutes to run from where I spawned to the furthest north west point on the ingame map, I used up almost all my food and drink and proceeded south to the town of now lopatino. Now after logging out I hope that I will spawn back where I left off.

Best to use six updater, it will keep the mod up to date for you when you launch it. http://www.six-updater.net/p/download.html

goodbye side chat...i shall miss thee...
[Gen]Adzic replied to lowerplains's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Side chat gave birth the the saying.. "Friendlies in Cherno?" Without it, the game has lost some of it's appeal, it's also a valuable tool for helping new players who tend to have many questions. Just disable the voice ability in side chat, Voila. -
I have the necessary equipment and can pinpoint the exact location of the western edge of the map with a map marker, it was around 26000m away from the map where I spawned and I have already ran for about ten mins.
-
Then I shall bump this thread until I eventually find out for myself :) I have just too much good stuff to suicide him, it took me literally all day to gather all the supplies and was (upon my next login) going to venture north for rares, then this happened :(
-
Good point.. but then that player you just left alone and told where to arm himself may be your undoing at some point in time, shotgun shell to the head aint nice lol On topic.. I am a friendly in cherno, electro and other such spawning locale.. its nice to meet you all, please don't shoot me on sight even if I am armed, I only ever shoot when shot at. Oh shit yeah you don't know who I am cuz we all look the same, oh well.. mighty good job we don't have to attain lives (1ups) like in mario games.. I'd be clean out by now haha

Part of this mods appeal is that of the unknown, who can you trust? dare you even trust? would that trust be a two way thing? Once I helped a guy who came in from the beach at boleta airfield, he had no guns so assumed he was here to come looking for one, unfortunately for him I had already emptied the hangars and control tower of the M16 with ammo and a rather snazzy G17, so after a short introduction and exchanging "Friendly" messages I asked if he would like me to escort him to the nearby deerstands across the way to see if we could find him a weapon and assured him that I would cover him while he looked, first deerstand he hit he was awarded with a AKM with mags, he was happy.. After grabbing his spoils that I helped him to get, we departed to the fields to relative safety and he shot me point blank in the face.. I couldn't understand it?, he had my trust and I honestly thought that I had done more than enough by this point to earn his, but instead he chose to loot me of my things. Thats the thing about DayZ, its hard to tell who is more dangerous.. the zombies or its players lol, its an emotional experience.. which is why I believe it has become so popular, you actually feel for your character which is something you certainly don't do in call of duty or other FPS and zombie type games.

I've seen people typing in side channel today, I don't think its meant to be like at as after I updated to the beta patch for Arma the option for side chat was gone, maybe these people who can still do it have just simply not bothered to update to Beta 93825? tbh i feel it should be re-added anyway but without mic support, part of the fun was reading people asking if there was any friendlies in cherno lol now that's gone I really feel isolated and alone, probably the reason for its removal but i like to help a noob out and its impossible if they cant type and ask. This game is hard to learn, lots of finicky controls and options.. helps to get some help in this game.

Rocket (and everyone else who has any feelings for this mod) has to accept that most people have come for how the mod was, how it was when they first played it... people like this will no doubt leave for how the mod grows as it differs from their taste, from what they loved about the game. However, entirely new players who maybe started playing today may like it like this and if it got reverted back to how it was may leave because its not to their taste... moral of the story is you can't please everyone. Its the twat about Alpha, nothing is concrete, set in stone, definite. People would do well to remember that but tensions run high when change in something they love occurs and lets be honest its understandable.

Hotfix Build 1.7.1.4 Rolling Update (was 1.7.1.3)
[Gen]Adzic replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
To be honest I thought DayZ was awesome enough before these recent patches and hotfixes to fix the patches, now it's WAY too awkward to play, extremely annoying and is fast losing its replay value and fun factor. I know its meant to be a survival horror type game but c'mon now, how can anyone be expected to stick around and play this when they get killed after 5 minutes of running from a zombie, too pissed off to keep running and just give up. I crawled prone into a building (subsequently with one entrance and exit) to find nothing inside, nothing to defend myself with and somehow zombies saw or heard me inside there and overwhelmed me within 2 minutes, I couldn't even get out of there. I just shut the game down pissed off and came here to express my opinion. I know all this patching, changing and adding new stuff is a bunch of ideas and tests to better the game, but honestly... sometimes you have to step back, see what concept originally pulled in the huge interest and playerbase and work on that, realize that with adding or removing too much you can easily alienate players from what they fell in love with and truly I can already see that beginning to happen. You only have to read 90% of current forum posts to see that the recent changes have started to distance players from the game. AND, Before someone chimes in "ITS FUCKING ALPHA YOU PLUM".. it maybe alpha yes, but certain game changing, changes can make a BIG difference and can quite easily turn a fan into a hater. I know this because I hate it how it currently is where as before I truly loved it. -
Is anybody actually using Rifles?
[Gen]Adzic replied to Prof. Awesome's topic in New Player Discussion
You have to use your brain to outsmart them, its not too hard... best thing I to do to evade a horde is shack up in one of them houses (small wooden building with one way in) and headshot them all, taking care not to waste any bullets. A good starting weapon if you can find one is a Winchester, its not very loud and kills zombies with one shot anywhere to the body. Then when your well equipped and feeling brave go to a Army barracks/Airfield and find some quality guns. Its quite a long trek and thwart with danger upon arrival but the spoils are usually worth the journey if you survive :) -
So this is how it goes... I hear rave reviews all over the internets, about a mod on a game I have never tried, so I look into it... Looks good! I buy Arma combined ops from Steam for £24.99 safe in the knowledge I have made a good purchase that's trusted and played by so many. The games have finished downloading and installed, I apply the mod as per instruction, I jump into the game with a somewhat confident smug look on my face having heard stories and seen videos of the game including zombies, bandits and PvP and I feel I fair well in this genre of game, I'm excited... but little did I know what I was going to be in for. I join a UK server, wait for it to loadup and Bam! next thing I know I'm on a beachfront, I familiarize myself with the game keys, its quite confusing for someone new to this whole game, so I decide that I really don't want to move too far until I'm safe in the knowledge that I can.. 1. Fire my weapon 2. Move my character in the various stances 3. Use basic functions of the inventory I start to worry that I'm not taking any of it in, there's just so much to learn.. I alt-tab and watch some Arma tutorials and DayZ vids on Youtube and start to try it myself ingame, tabbing in and out of the game each time to try something else. So I'm watching a video then suddenly when I alt-tab back in there is a person standing infront of me pointing his gun directly at my face, I panic and run away not to sure about what to think of the situation, as I'm running I'm getting shot at, my character is hit, I start to lose blood, I think I'm dying, at this point I dont even know what the keys are to use the ingame chat function to try and plead for my life, YOU ARE DEAD screen is there, Call of Duty this is not. I hit disconnect and go watch me some more vids, I aint making that mistake again that's for damn sure. After I get some confidence back I jump back in, I'm feeling confident this time, if I see another player he's going down before he has the chance to do the same to me, no questions asked. I start to explore the world further than the beach, I don't know where I am, where I'm going and what I'm even doing, I just want to live... I see a village in the distance, as I approach I see zombies... my heart is beating faster already, with a slow crouched pace I start to work my way toward them a zombie is near so I shoot it, BIG MISTAKE! Out of nowhere I have attracted a half dozen snarling flesh eaters sprinting toward me like madmen, yeah, I'm screwed, they swarm on me like bees and I'm overwhelmed, YOU ARE DEAD screen again. By now it seems I dont just have a lot to learn I have an awful lot to learn. Back to the beachfront for me for another bash at life. Determined to learn from my mistakes I soon come across a different looking village with a building that has open doors, I venture inside, I see items that can be picked up and now I'm hooked.. its tin cans, a watch, some ammo for a gun I dont even have, I take it all none the less. I come out of the building thinking I am better equipped and start to look for more enter-able buildings... its not long before I find a shed/garage with engine parts and other items, its apparent its going to take a while to find guns. I run out of buildings able to be entered and start to run through a field, through some woodland and into the abyss... this map is HUGE I have been running for 20 minutes, where the hell am I going? A BARN! but a zombie has spotted me, hes broken my bones and i'm bleeding fast, I kill it and bandage myself up, take the 2 morphine shots to magically fix the bone damage, I'm beat up bad but I'm alive... inside I find what seems to be a shotgun, WINNER! I take it and head off. I need blood, its low... my screen is dark and blurry and my character is occasionally falling unconscious. I have no food left, its a bad situation that's only going to get worse. I see a lookout tower (only now I know is called a deerstand) there are zombies around it so I crawl and climb up it to find a PDW - UZI machine gun, somehow a zombie must have heard me up there and soon enough he has climbed the ladder and broke my bones again, I kill him and the others that come running, use my last bandage and climb down... I'm prone on the ground with what I believe to be broken legs because I'm unable to stand and severely need blood, food and water in the middle of nowhere. I'm what you might say dead meat. I have no choice but to commit suicide and hit respawn. This game is unique, it's full of suspense and action, each playthrough is a story, a story that can change so many times in so many different ways... its all I want from a video game and more. Best £25 I ever spent, Thank You.

How long will my loot stay on the ground?
[Gen]Adzic replied to shadowvfx's topic in New Player Discussion
Firstly I am usually quick to the pull the trigger on a stranger, I have died too many times trying to declare that I am friendly before getting shot, I decided to turn to being the one doing the shooting without even flinching, I feel bad but hey, you do what ya gotta do to survive in this game right? Well I can tell you that a nice guy (whom i'm now friends with ingame) once left me 5 cooked meats in a backpack in the middle of a road, after of course I had asked if anyone could help me out as I was passing out every 10 or so meters with loss of blood, as you know this game involves a hell of a lot of trust if you are to meet up with a fellow player you have never met before so this way seemed mutually the best thing he could do to help me. I was understandably cautions approaching the bag incase he maybe took me out from a distance but after almost a hour an half making my way to the coordinates where he left me the bag it was there.. along with 5 cooked meats :) he was nowhere to be seen. After this help, we forged a trust so uncommon to DayZ we met up and he even gave me a ride in his car to fill up my water bottles, such a friendly player and showed me that not everyone deserves a bullet on sight, but to trust those who have some trust in you, if its a false trust (on their part) and you have been strung along at least you can hold your head up high and say your a good player. To cut a long story short.. I have witnessed items last at least an hour and a half :)
