  1. NO Will come back after several months. It took 7 words to express how I feel about this debilitating patch.
  2. 10/10 would watch him get banned again.
  3. glad for the ban. good to see mods cleaning up stuff like this quickly! I think the quote need to be snipped as well.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

Stew? My in game name is Stew. I never bothered changing it.
  5. taken from the OP build a small town/fortification second part of his bullets. The point is that a fortification is just a small building with some ways to prevent people from entering it. Yeah, you should be able to build these (you can already make a shed into such a fortification). However, usually people want mechanics so that bandits can't take their fortification as easily, or at least they want added bonusses next to the fact that you have a fortification. Building a town would be ridiculous in my viewpoint. maybe a full town would be ridculous but a small settlement that can be used as a trade post or a small area that provides security and a taste of society would be cool because it would allow players to interact more and at a deeper level, however this would require more dynamic loot spawns but dayz is in alpha so that could also be in the pipline ;) People are complaining about how stale the current map is. I'm bringing this up because: What is servers ran maps with purpose? Have a map designed for trading, and community stuff. For example, on the west of the current map, make a 'cut off' point, so if you save your character there, you can spawn in the next map (to the west). joining a server on that map, without being near the "transfer area" could result in you not being allowed in, or maybe spawn in a red box saying go to a different server or something. Maybe even each map/area could have its own respawn points for better ability to play with friends. ^this will make vehicles 100x more usful ^225km is big, but with this idea, there is no theoretical limit to how big the play size could be.
  6. Ignore the flames of other posters. Your story was very similar to my first few days trying to play. It gets better with time, and it really helps to have a buddy play with you to talk and show you the ropes.
  7. 1. I'm not saying it should be built for a cash grab. I'm saying it is very likely imo, given the fact that people are eating it up faster than it can be handed out. But I think point 1 is so far off topic, we should move on :-/ 2/3. If the hardcore flooded into the newbie servers, you'd be getting gameplay as is. Servers based on playstyle is just a thought. twist the idea around for abit, maybe we'll think of something that can benefit everyone without losing some of the magic that we've come to enjoy. ~An interesting thought, what if (WAYYYY later in development) a single player / 'bootcamp' style mission to teach how the game is played (looting etc), taking place during the initial outbreak? Then players could be prompted to join 'Atlanta 8 / PansyMode'.
  8. Client-side hitbox? Your machine tells the server the zombie was shot (because it was on your screen). Server side would result in players shooting the crap out of zombies, and the server says they missed, and the zombie nibbles on you because you have 'Lag aim'.
  9. 1. Really, if money was the main priority (or one of the main priorities) of this game, it would probably look more like CoD. The game is focused on a niche of players. Games never became better when money was at stake. What you actually want is make the game appeal to players who do not like this game, by making it another game. And because people bought ArmA should not bother DayZ at all (because people did NOT pay Rocket), so that argument is terribly stupid. You also complain at Rocket when you bought ArmA2 and found out it was not what you want it to be? 2. Still the game has a core vision, which you want to deviate from to “appeal to a larger audience”. With commercial games it happens to often that the game is changed for the worse of the real fans to “appeal a larger audience”. We as actual fans of the game as it is don’t want to see the game taken from us to give it to that “larger audience”. Also, while the game is still a mod, the number of players is not a goal. 3. I don't know what you are talking about :P I'm just saying, the game should be accomodating to the current playstyles available, and not broaden too much to appeal to other people. Not have some weird Survivor vs Bandit TDM, because that is just not the point of the game 1. DayZ is growing like wild fire. The chances of it being put on a shelf for $50 is growing with the size of the community. If someone thinks they can make money off something, they will. Most people would agree they'd be willing to shell out cash when this game gets past the yet to be seen beta. The fact that so many people have bought Arma2 soley because they heard and saw DayZ speaks for itself. I don't care about Arma2, i really dont. Someone told me that some of the Arma2 team worked or works on DayZ team. Perhaps my "someone" was wrong? I am not sure. 2. Nobody wants to remove or ruin it. We're just sharing other ideas on how to make it better. Providing ideas to remedy a problem is more helpful than shooting down bad ones. Half the ideas I provided were bad. But they could spark thought and the devs could get something useful out of it. 3. Nobody wants TDM. It would ruin the game. I was just making a suggestion that we have a "Newb Server" or a "Pansy City" or something when you aren't in the mood for the die hard stuff. Perhaps I'm wrong, and perhaps I'm in the minority, just voicing my thoughts.
  10. 1. This is a mod that people are buying the game just to play, that means money. The chance of this game becoming stand alone and/or Arma 3 Dayz, means money. 2. Sounds like you've mixed your persona into the .rar files you downloaded? This alpha can really go anywhere at this point. Its an alpha. The game, as it stands now, is great. I really enjoy it. I dont want to take away from the PvP side, I'd just like a less hardcore version at times. 3. Glad to see you agree with me. "Types of players" and "playstyle" are almost synonyms. I think the argument you were trying to make was, 'PvP/Bandits/Deathmatchers are on par with other playstyles'. Our argument was 'Choosing to help each other atm is seldom worth the risk/reward'. In a Zombie-Apoc, from the vast majority of film and novels, people tend to stick together and only fight amongst them selves when low on supplies, or when the plot demands it. 'Bandits' are still a role there, and surely they exist, but it seems they should be the exception, and not the rule. Shoot on sight yields the best rewards atm, and its far from the 'realism' one would expect from the zombie media we've all learn to love. We still want shoot on sight. If I was in a group with someone who was annoying, messing up and attracting zombies, or hording supplies, I'd put a few through him. We dont want to "Nerf Bandits" or "Buff Survivors". Also, I'm pretty sure Redz is trolling.
  11. We're trying to come up with a system that appeals to all types of players, not exclusively one type or the other. Games that appeal to more players, make more money. Do mods ever clean up posts like these?
  12. I agree that co-op should be somehow rewarded, and that bandits / solos shouldn't be punished. I would like them to be punished , but that's because I'm more of a co-op player, and not a quake deathmatch player. I really enjoy that all options are at the players finger tips, and not strictly candyland or quake. All ideas mentioned here, I think, have the possibility to make the game better. If they actually work or not, remains to be seen. Here are some more ideas to help the co-op side of the community: - Faster bandaging from other players ~easier to bandage someone else than one's self - Global Chat~ ~Allow a global chat channel to people without murders ~Murderer's can't write in it? And/or cant even see it? (opinions please) ~Good for newbies who are clueless on playing, and will otherwise get killed easy and leave (good for community building) - Murder-Free servers (Oh boy, here comes the flames) ~Players may join only with 0 murders. They can remain in game if a murder is commited. This will help newbies, and reduce the flow of carebear tears. ~Vast majority of servers should remain as "normal" DayZ servers. ~I know I'm going to hear alot of bad things about this suggestion, but the reality is there are 2 groups of players. One takes joy from the frustration of the others. Deathmatch players can always have fun killing eachother. Veteran players slaying carebears and newbs who just try to co-op, well, its damages community, and could reduce the number of potential customers. Creating Co-op only servers would be even worse, so, have both, and make it a one-way change. - Military patrols that attack on site players with murders. (I pulled this off another post, and refined it) ~ Military spawns based on # of murders. ~ Patrols drop military weapons (good for our bandit brothers) - Perhaps Civilian NPCs? ~They could give beans or w/e to carebears. ~ Bandits could beat them down for LOL QUAD NADE KILL ~ Bandits could use them as bait? ~ Maybe they could offer blood transfusion to survivors, if the survivor had the proper "tools". ==================== Keep in mind these ideas are still half-baked dreams, and not demands. Suggestions welcome, pvp/realism rage ignored.
  13. I cant use side or global chat in any server I join. I see other people using it, but i cant. Really hard to make friends or preform medical resue without chat.

    Motorcycle Tire Durability

I have to agree. I've crashed my dirt bike a hundred times with very little needed for repairs. a brake fluid cable once in a while if a branch manages to hack it off. they are supposed to be build for abuse.

    Turn off Debug Monitor

    # of zombies is useful, as there is a server bug where no zombies or loot spawn, and its easy to tell by looking at this. Also, i LOVE having a frag count displayed.
  16. Keep ALL stats on our little starter gun the same, but... Make it a .22LR Semi-Auto. Here's why: Damage dealt is similar to .22lr Range is similar. A good replacement model would be a Ruger MK III. They are common as all hell (atleast in the US). Or maybe even a .380? I would suggest a ppk, but james bond stigma has ruined that gun for me, at least in a videogame.

    Servers Without Zombies

I've seen this happen a few times. if you log in and you see the number of zombies is like 50 or less, then loot is gone. Zome people exploit this by safe traveling to various locations.

    Electric and Natural lighting's V 4.0

I agree. I like that idea I had about getting "repair books" and scrap metal to a machine shop for parts. I would love to see a LM6000 gas turbine ingame. I wasnt trying to play PowerPlant Simulator 2012, just saying its a little outside the scope of Zombie Simulator 2013. Basement diesel gens I think are the way to go. Power a single building. it is your clans new fort. make fuel runs. easy to see out of. electric gates. SPOT LIGHTS OMFG. maybe even charge electric carts/vehicles? they could be silent. Also, sorry for excessive overkill on power plant info, but, you know, its mah thang.

    Electric and Natural lighting's V 4.0

Well, I feel I need to post in this thread. I am a Control Operator as a thermal generating station. I've read most of this thread, skipped through a few parts, and I hate to tell you guys, but realism is GONE if you want to run a power plant in DayZ. That being said, I would play the shit out of it. Let me itemize the problems with running a generating station / grid. 1. Survivors and Bandits are not trained professionals. - Takes years to learn to properly run a power plant effectively. - Lack of experience operating a plant will result in massive damage. Especially on a unit start up. - Powerplants require (depending on size) 3-8 operators, 24 hours a day, 365.25 days a year. 2. Repairs. You need them. - Many unique parts. Gauges, relays, probes, transmitters, are all pretty common and can be mail ordered by JerryCanz'R'Us. Gas Turbine / Steam Turbine Rotor blades are not. - 4160v Condensate Pumps aren't found in your neighbors barn. - Boiler waterwall tubes require pressure ratings from 500-4000 psi, depending on the unit. - Generating Units that "sit dead" become shitty if they are not run. Its like leaving a car or motorcycle rot in your garage. Except amazingly worse. Offline units still require regular repairs. And we're just pretending in the middle of a zombie nightmare (or dream, as it is me) they took the time to shutdown properly and save the units from self destruction. 3. Regular supplies. -Hardhats and earplugs? Sure, they are everywhere. 500 gallons of 43% solution NH3 to maintaim boiler chemistry for a week? How about Sulfuric acid to maintain cooling tower pH. Or Phosphates to reduce boiler scale. Or oxygen scavenger to prevent pitting. Or Sodium Hypochlorite to reduce microbial growth in the condenser tubesheet. I ignored the 20,000 gallons of NH3 you'll need to clean the exhaust, because the AQMD guys are prolly crewing on corpse bits or killing eachother for beans. - FUEL. On my old unit, 460mw supercritical forced draft boiler, it burned 6.3 MILLION cubic feet of natural gas PER HOUR. 4. Distributed Power Grid Operation. - Not going into detail here. Basically power plants dont control where the power goes. Lines could be down. Each city will require it own station for customer distribution. Things in disarray; things every where will be going to ground and cause a myriad of circuit trips. Fires break out. 5. Water. - You need lots of it. And highly pure, to the order of <10ppb SiO2. 6. Damage. - When things go south, they can get real bad. Toxic gases, 1000F 1800PSI steam leaks (its like a lightsabre, cuts the arm off and burns flesh at the same time). 7. Server load. - We will have to make it really, really simple, so the servers don't die when you go to sync a generator. All of these items deal with industrial size plants, either nuclear, coal, fuel oil, and natural gas. Smaller size equipment is more of a reality. Look up a General Electric LM6000 or a GE LM2500. They are distillate/natural-gas, but are simpler to run. Hydroplants require less, but grid problems still axes that idea. Repairs could be made by gathering manuals, scrap metal, and crafting special parts at a machine shop. Any power plant questions; PM me. I could also record ambient power plant noise for use in game. I used to map for HL1 and HL2, and I made powerplants for those games. (Made them in minecraft too, in great detail, but its @^$% minecraft so w/e) Also, I read a post about zombies attacking a transformer. Not likely. They are usually made of ¼-½" thick steel. Unless your talking about a poletop xformer, those are flimsy by comparison.

Need Medical Assistance? We can help.

Hello. My in game name is Stew. the Doc inspired me after I had been killed many times from things not worth dying from. So here's my 1st (and only, so far) story about being a medic. I think I was on LA 3, not sure. I spawned near Cherno and ran around like a fool for about half an hour. I found an Alice backpack, but never any weapons, and only heaps of makalov mags. Then I (for the first time) found those medical tents in Cherno. I stuffed my pockets full of blood packs. I think there was something wrong with the spawning system, because I saw maybe 15-20 boxes of medical supplies, each with about 20 things in them. So with 18 blood packs, and 3 bandages/epi-pens/anti-biotics/morphine/painkillers (no food or water, or primary weapon) I set off to try to do the world good. I yelled out in side chat if anyone needed help, and a guy in the same city as me asked for help, so I ran to him. I got lost twice, finally got close, and someone else blew one of my legs off with an AK. the zeds in pursuit got their meal, and poor 'PVT (PFC?) John' never got his supplies. In my final breath, I yelled out in side chat where my corpse was and the supplies on it, so that maybe someone could use it. TL;DR: I tried to be cool and ended up with my face in the dirt. I think I'm going to stick to using the makalov with no more than 1 food/water on me so bandits will gain little from killing me. I accept dying regularly for the thrill of being a combat medic.
