Coal Mines - Problems with Heat (Extra environment, items; linked threads)
3rdparty posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1st Edit, 2nd Edit Suggestion Location: Coal Mine/s Reasons: New environment to explore/occupy (any kind of cave/mine area to explore would be cool) Provides an alternative energy source to fuel if electricity is introduced A mineshaft could present a sandbox acivtivity/challenge with a self sustainble payoff. If placed in proximity to a train station, could be used as the energy source for another sandbox activity (trains) Everyone knows new environments/buildings will have to be added/expanded. And ive read numerous discussions on underground environments (mostly bunkers/bases). But cheranus is just a useful map that came from Arma. Personally i would hope that when the game is more fully developed the map will be fully encompassing as many different enviornments/buildings as possible. Suggestion Items: Coal Burns longer than fire wood Heavier to carry than wood Could be used as alternative energy source (see threads) Heat system is essentially wrong. Heatpacks heat instaniously. Rain and swimming should soak your clothes and heatpacks shouldnt dry clothes out, (clothes should get and stay wet, and a fire should remedy this). Problems wth possible solutions: Firewood is lighter, easier to find, and abundent. Seemingly not worth the effort to find coal. However remembering this is in alpha, if electricity is developed, if new enviornments put players in positions far away from wood sources. AND if new animals (predators/BEARS!!) are introduced, as well as developing traps, there would be more reasons for characters to stay close to the fire rather than wander off into the darkness for more wood :) Suggestion Item: Pickaxe Found in mine for harvesting coal Can be used as weapon Problems wth possible solutions: Too heavy for special item inventory, as the special inventory will start getting a bit silly in its capacity. Maybe if its a hand pickaxe it could, but other wise i dont see any other use for it outside the mines, and so would serve for harvesting coal, and give you a little bit of defense as a weapon whilst your primary was not equipped. Suggestion Location: Mineshaft Reason: Would require a portable generator (see threads) with lots of fuel to start the mine shaft operating. Once up running and coal extracted, the pay off would be a self sustainable location, as the mine shaft itself would of been powered by its own electrcity source, which could be feasibly linked to its own coal powered generators. If placed in reasonable proximity to train station, could be the ideal energy source required to run it, and make it an independent system from an electric grid whom another established group might control. Credit given to topics AND posts given, here. Im sure there are many more not mentioned, as there is no such thing as an original idea XD jesquik - http://dayzmod.com/f.../page__hl__coal MiZTiiX - http://dayzmod.com/f.../page__hl__coal BossFi - http://dayzmod.com/f...oal#entry227505 And this thread was inspired via discussions here (well worth a read) Bullfrog - http://dayzmod.com/f...enerators-v-33/ -

i gots me a night vision FAL, that is a thing of beauty.

lol 1:17 if i see these zombies in game im going to kill my friends, myself, and never play again.

Guess you could have addiction work in terms of susceptibility. So lone wolves have higher susceptibility then group players(they still have to try the drug first!). Lone wolves have higher familiarity resistance then group players. However Lone wolves have morale than declines quicker then survivors, but is more solid and unaffected by PvP interactions as a pose to group survivors. IS that kind of what your saying?
-
Yea i do like this, but at the same time ive seen discussions along similiar lines where peeps would argue that the addictive attachment is a punishing mechanism, especially if it was added as a necessity to a lone wolf character. Personally i feel that does closer match reality, as drug addiction has been scientifically proven to be the result of emotional deprivation, but i can still see there would be significant chunk of ze community who would wriggle at the thought. I still think its a sick idea though! +1
-
oh so you do! trains would be cool, seen a few discussions on em before. id prefer them to be a kind of group objective (to control the railway lines and trains XD)
-
lol wont this effectively ease the aggression of the spawn killing mountain trolls? turning them into kidnappers who give blowjobs on the beach XD
-
bean-stealing will turn to piss-taking XD
-
i think the discussion developed a bit during the day or two you spent trying to find this well produced video. I applaud the effort.

Itd be cool to have a more dynamic environment with basic free running.. to copy from another thread XD -
wouldnt matter anywayz because itd all get duped again :S just focus on fixing the exploit
-
I like ze ideas, even this part selected, and ive seen a similar feature a) being debated on different activities aswell. ze servers would need a good clean and be regulated before this could be tested effectively :( +1 though
-
Yea tbh ive been thinking parkour may conjour up unintentional action images, but i wasnt even thinking of any game in particular. looked at that uncharted and tbh.. it looked like prince of persia.. in the jungle.. with guns.

although ive seen it suggested before, i do like the idea of subdueing enemies through non lethal weapons, and ziptying/handcuffin them, effectively binding them to the server or preventing them from logging out, its been debated either way. either way i do like some kind of imprisonment system, whether for friendly precautions or day light robbery XD -

Ye can already drag peeps and pick em up in arma, dunno if you can pick em but im pretty sure you can already drag unconscious players in DayZ too XD -
meh nooo i reckon, study body would be more impotent and i reckon it needs to be something explored/experimented with more anywho
-
actually nooo he is having troubles going stand alone, and he may very well have to build his own engine :( also wtf? parkour is sick! not to mention i did say i didnt mean this kind of excessive hardcore parkour http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJubOZLpp4A I meant the kind of jumps and climbs you would make to escape a horde of zombies. also are you actually Bukethead? If so thats a sick lil shread on wave twisters.
-
ooooh this couldnt be implemented until going stand alone was clearly coming. i see how it could open up exploits, but isnt that the point of it in alpha, to test the mechanics and fumigate the bugs?
-
nnoooo noooo, i think thats going a bit too far. Didnt wanna see uber parkour, id just like more dynamic enviornments. So when your chased by zeds through a town, you dont just run through like forest gump, you crash through fences, you knock over abandoned trollies and damaged sign posts you smash through windows, clamber through small holes in the roof and walls, you scamper up and down trees. I think it would add to the aesthetics of a desperate struggle for survival. Not to mention opening up the environment that lil more.

You could go uber excessive and have dynamic spawn points. Ie, Spawn at a car crash bleeding/shock/broken bones, spawn on beach already cold and ill, spawn in boarded up house surrounded by zeds starving and thirsty XD -
mm yea i kinda see your point, it feels kind of restrictive however that you cannot rely on some more fluid environment interactions.

Either a radical rethinking/restructuring of the forums or a completely different system, Which again given staffing.. doubtful, very doubtful. But anyone who uses this forum knows in was restructured a while ago, and it still hasnt helped, search function is better but... and im sorry to have to do this OP, http://dayzmod.com/f..._+suggest +list the problem here is that anyone who actually plays this game, is aware of how understaffed they are, expecting enough moderators to wade through this is just.. its not gonna happen. Tbh though as much as it pains to see repetitive threads ye shouldnt aggressively dismiss peeps. From what ive gathered this is striving towards being a stand alone but this is incredibly difficult due to the interests of gaming industry (ie source of funding). The only way, as ive seen so far, Rocket is attempting to win support from this industry is by pointing towards the explosion in popularity, which has come about, because we all have been thinking of this game for years. Theres no original ideas here, there wasnt even in the beginning! The problem is that if hes using this strategy to win support (cant say its the best method because i cant say my opinions in business strategy are valid), it requires that momentum to carry on and flourish, to really kick the industry in the teeth. The Rocket Vanguard haters, there worse than the trolls, and they discourage genuinely enthusiastic people, which at this point in the creation of the game (given that strategy) is counter productive. Not to mention incredibly ego centric and pathetic to read.
