But still very much on point, this leads me to conclude, you post on threads without reading OPs
-
that is my point but my forum intuition tells me you didnt read the entire OP sorry if i am incorrect.
-
:'( err why? if your not gonna read the OP dont bother posting!
-
Thank you, for skim reading!

I have seen a serbian film, got reeled into it by a film student friend of mine, whats your excuse? XD And thats my point, that kinda thing hasnt been done in game, in every other art form sure, but not games, theyre the last frontier of taboos. My question is whether this style of game, survival, can be truly immersive without this uber grim aspect. Theres even games out that are grimmer than this game, the problem comes in that all the grimness is conducted by NPC's. Introducing that sandbox behavior to people seems to be the main taboo. So I would say that you have seen a horror film that has far grimer scare/shock value then this game holds, and that if ye were to equate the horror of this game to a film, itd be a pretty lame horror film. To think as well that the horror aspect with zombies will not be improved beyond its current level.. :) I wouldnt bet on it.
-
thankyou, for not reading!
-
Ok fair enough point, but let me ask ye on a personal basis, do ye watch any horror films or play any other horror media format? Or is DAyZ a first horror for ye? BEcause even at the moment, there is an incredible lack of horror sensation in this game :S Also i disagree on the driving peeps away business, some of the games that have received most notoriety have profited off it. Not that thats good, just that it wouldn't kill the game. Yess i recommend beddy byes, but im asking whether this game will truly have an immersive horror feel to it if it misses out crucial grimness present in others.
-
ORactually bother to read further than a paragraph of the OP where it states: Nor is this a thread about whether DayZ should be censored (that was just to unknowingly reel you in :) Problem being that im not reeling in readers. I hate marketing.
-
Well thats where i disagree, if it retracts from the gaming experience then i think it is a bit of a cop out, and knowing censorship history, will only be a matter of time before it is done.
-
Ok as an example, im sure many people here have seen or watch the Walking Dead. In my opinion, water down panned out nonsense, why? Not because its bad concept or progression of events, but because its actual base and foundations come from the comic book its based on, which is not only better in every single way, is also powerfully grim, and far more gripping. Walking Dead would not be a TV program if the comic wasnt what it was. Not even particularily taboo busting either, just an emotional commitment because the world portrayed in the comics feels more real.
-
I would censor nothing .. I think ye are missing the point, this is not a suggestion, im asking how emotionally immersive can this game truly be, if its not open to the kind of horrors and brutality you would expect of it.
-
worry not OP, this is a good suggestion, i did a thread on parkour a bit ago which might be a lil excessive a term but generally i think there should be alot more dynamic movement in a dynamic destructible environment. +1

XD yuuuup But yea what i was talking about was the scale of the activity should be enormous for both the oilrig/refinery and the electric grid. DEfo should be out the realms of small, even well organised groups. Because both them also have the potential to wield massive influence of groups and the server, (electricity and fuel is needed in practically every other objective) but also by allowing two you open up the potential for interesting group dynamics, because potentially two (just as large and organised clans) could settle separate safe zones, and co-operate or fight for dominance XD Gonna restructure that OP again but just wanted to introduce some of the things ye mentioned before to bump this up next to a new thread I satrted which also incoportates some of the things ye mentioned; but giving these sandbox potentials to smaller groups/bandits/lone wolves: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/48022-control-rural-industry/ (bit too long and not as exciting to read methinks XD) Another one that probably needs tidying up for bite-size reading. Ive been unsure on what to decide in terms of gas stations and respawn rates. It defo should be incorporated to create that incentive for conflict/trading/sharing, but as too rates of despawn. Incorprating these activities would make the petrol stations make them far more popular targets, and i dunno how much more they would be used and what rates considering the scope of activities. But that in itself could open them up to potential fortification and occupation. Anyone who tries this better be geared up cuz theyll be alot of peeps passing by XD
-
... ye havnt been here long have ye XD dont think military grade weapons really spawn in firestations, some of the ammo but rarely get an uber powerful gun in there, think the AK's and some of the other assault rifles are balancing the lack of a police station. and im pretty sure NO military weapons spawn in houses :S

DayZ map expansion. go big and go home
3rdparty replied to kwhy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeees I like this idea, each map must be linked by a sea border, to reduce issues of number of vehicles/items/players/zeds transferred. It'd be cool if ye couldnt spawn on them either, you would have to make your way there by boat XD -
urgh i think you dont know where to direct your anger. but ye are right about ze view distance, something does need to be sorted with continuity between players on distance and rendering, tbh though you still stand out more with the standard clothing ye start wiith.

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/48022-control-rural-industry/ I made a thread, partially influenced by the discussion here, about controlling Rural industry and also... why you would want too. Cannay be arsed reading? Botany as well! YE should be able to have 2 new permafixtures - Cultivation Plot and GreenHouse
-
I had played with this idea, but in terms of server populations and environental impact. Ie servers with established groups and large permafixtures have increasingly less medicines/canned food/drinks and ammo spawn in them. Interesting thread on seasons here though http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/45512-seasons
-
yes but the trick is creating an environment with incentives to drive the "making contact" and acting as groups, without putting in artificial mechanisms of safety. Remember the way the prison ends up goin XD Also if ye are up to date, read #100 last night :S
-
I thought zeds were supposed to get distracted by rabbits, but i dont mind the ideas of this, anything smaller then a cow should have their animations improved so they can out run a zed though. Implement it now and itll be bean night for a fortnight waiting for the update gestation period XD +1
-
XD, im sure they would, the idea though is that there are facilities inside those walled areas which are useful, encouraging peeps to wall in repair and use them, and others to try and break in XD And i dont see why peeps would do, seeing as it hasnt even got off the ground with permafixtures, eagerly awaiting these underground bases XD

... bump blush Edited to include Ambulances Alternative Mines and Quarries Oil Rig Refinery Island

well so far this comment, and "this isnt minecraft have been the only objections i can see to this idea. (apart from the time period for growth which i think could be reduced) as a pose to ze comment above, that time has been going up, and when the all mechanics have been introduced and are smoother itll be higher. this isnt just bugs that are being tested but how people play it. so yea i think its a cool idea
