Find a cozy little place and sit next to a nice fire. That always worked for me. It's not instant though. Gotta sit for a few minutes. However, usually I just try to switch clothes. I'd rather run around and loot than sit and do nothing.

Dayz Standalone map or english?!
tommy290 replied to ShadowProphesy's topic in New Player Discussion
The DayZDB map Hasi referenced is the best. While I appreciate that some people enjoy being lost and just finding their way, I personally don't have time to wander for hours. I like to get to where I want to go as quickly as possible. The online map helps me do that. If you have dual-monitors or an iPad, just stick it up there and go on your merry way. Note that things still won't be in English. Almost every town I've been to has a road sign just outside of it so you know where you're at. Just compare that to the map. It won't take long before you start recognizing the bigger places. -
Don't forget the fireman's axe too. It's the red/yellow one. It'll kill zombies in one hit. Man I love those things.

So my OCD need to keep like items grouped together can work against me. Good to know. :)

Why don't you need the stuff in medkits? Why shouldn't you store bandages in pants?

I think there's a 32 or 35 slot camping backpack, and something that has 6 slots on your chest... No clue where to get them though. :) If you follow the main road south you'll hit a few good towns on your way to Elektro. There's also a big factory thingy at Polina, and I think that might spawn the backpack. I always seem to have good luck finding something cool in the construction site places. Hopefully someone else will have more specifics. Usually I just check everywhere, so I'm not very well versed on what spawns what.

http://mustygaming.com/Forum/index.php/topic/3353-a-musty-overpoch/page-1 There's a guide video in the first post. Overpoch is just a combination of Epoch and Overwatch mods, so installation is the same. Basically just download the Epoch mod files and stick the folder in your Arma II OA folder. Then add this commandline to your launch parameters in Steam: -mod=@DayZ_Epoch The same applies for any mod. Just stick it in the main folder and adjust the launch parameter to include it. If you have to launch more than one mod, do it like this: -mod=@DayZOverwatch;@DayZ_Epoch; You can list as many mods as you want. Hope this helps.

Best thread I've seen in months. I request it be pinned for future reference.

You keep flip-flopping between being upset about glitches and hacking. Which is it, because you weren't the victim of both? It's pretty apparent you just want to complain about the game. That's fine, but don't expect anyone to take you seriously when all you have is a solitary incident which you're mad about because you lost some good gear. EDIT: To ColdAtrophy - sorry about derailing your thread. I'll keep out of it from now on so kichi doesn't spank me. If you do end up getting the game, check out the new players subforum. There's tons of info about how to play and such. Or, just wing it. DayZ is a pretty cool "learn-as-you-go" type game.

Me: "Put in the carpet!" Carpet Guy: "But I haven't even put the pad down yet." Me: "Not having carpet is the biggest problem in the room! I WANT CARPET NOW!" Carpet Guy: "But we're still tearing out the old carpet so you have a proper foundation for the new carpet." Me: "My neighbor has carpet! I paid you to give me carpet and I want carpet. Pretty simple concept right?" Carpet Guy: "It's silly to complain about not having new carpet when we just started and are doing the initial work. Please be patient while we do things in the proper order." EDIT: Figured this analogy might work better for you, since you're in the biz.

If you're not mad about losing the gear, then why did you mention it? If you're not mad about the gear, then you wouldn't care about dying to an alleged hacker. It's no different if you die to another player, a ladder, falling off a building... In the end, death results in a loss of gear. If a player doesn't care about the gear, then they just keep playing and enjoying the game. If a player does care about the gear, then they come to the forums and try to convince everyone that hackers have taken over and are ruining the game. That's pretty much how it works around here. Hackers are no more prevalent in DayZ than any other PC game. It's not even close to the "biggest problem in the game" and to suggest as much to the OP is silly.
-
And everyone who knows anything about DayZ will tell you "Don't get attached to your gear." over and over again.

1. Development is no slower than any other AAA game. 2. No. These are real people who have mouths to feed and bills to pay. Any notion that they just don't give a shit is laughable. 3. Very much so. 4. Not at all. I have much, much bigger regrets from BF4 and Titanfall. Steam reviews should never be used as a basis for judging a game. I typically don't trust ANY reviews that aren't from gaming buddies who I know enjoy the same type of games I do, but Steam reviews are the lowest common denominator of reviews.

Musty Gaming Standalone (Actual Private Hive) US/EU(Hardcore)/AU
tommy290 replied to kichilron's topic in Servers
There's no age requirement to play on the servers or hang out in TS. Just gotta be respectful, as we're a very casual community and work to maintain a relaxed atmosphere. -
Where are you going to store all the videos? Who is going to pay for that monumental amount of space? Who is going to review the videos? How will they be paid? If they're volunteers, what incentive do they have to watch hours and hours of videos? How will this get rid of hackers? Will they not simply get a new account every time they're caught? In my opinion, any solution that is reliant on human interaction is a band-aid at best and will never work efficiently enough to warrant its use. The only viable solution is improved anti-cheat software.

There's plenty to go around. Especially if you don't wear pants. -
This looks like a job for kichi.

Be mindful of the double tap freelook, as it will keep you in that mode until you double tap again. Can be a bit confusing if you do it accidentally and suddenly you can't change direction. :)
-
Nope. It's early alpha. Lots of things don't work right or aren't fully implemented. That's the whole point of alpha. If that's not something you want to deal with, then just play something else until the game is further developed.

Why is such a drastic increase in enterable buildings considered a good thing?
tommy290 replied to BC_Hawke's topic in General Discussion
I think most people see your point, they just don't agree with it. I certainly don't. I want every building to be enterable. It's more fun that way. I like exploring places, and I don't like going up to a door and not being able to open it. Kills the mood for me. I'm also a big fan of being able to have a huge variety of places I can go to get the loot I need. Now I'm not forced to hit up one of a small handful of big cities to get basic gear to survive. I can go almost anywhere and find things. With the higher number of enterable buildings, there's also the ability to expand the item list and still give people reasonable chances of finding things due to the increase in spawn points. Your argument is focused on player interaction, and I fully understand where you're coming from. However, I do not believe DayZ should be doing anything to force player interaction. That should not be a consideration in any design choices. DayZ should center around survival simulation. Any player interaction that occurs should be due solely to the players themselves causing it. Having interesting locations in-land is fine, but to lower the amount of enterable buildings simply so people won't spend so much time looting appears to be catering to a specific playstyle, and that's not what DayZ is all about. If you want more of a chance to run into people in-land, they should simply make the entire map open for fresh spawns. That would accomplish the same goal, but without reducing the quality of the game. All that being said, performance is a justifiable reason to not have as many enterable buildings. If they can't make it so you get great performance with all the enterable buildings, they should lower the number until high performance is possible. -
Here's the private shard I play on: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/198.12.77.2:2502/ I'm in Michigan and we've got lots of guys that play from Canada and west coast of US. No one has had any issues. I can't tell you where the server is physically located, but I can recommend it based on what you're trying to accomplish. As for figuring out the location of any particular server, I have no clue. :)

Building campfires indoors is dangerous. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy. ;)

I've been searching for screwdrivers to open cans since I can never find an actual canopener. I could've been making my own little knife this whole time?! Now I feel silly.

Do the heatpacks work? I've found them, but never when I was cold and wet so I've never actually tried using them.

Accessibility, Userfriendliness and Quality of Life
tommy290 replied to flexy's topic in Suggestions
I see what you're saying, but I think it would make things overly cluttered for anyone but the newest of bambis. I already hate the status messages instead of a minimal HUD, and I would doubly hate it if they added explanations for each status. I also don't want tons of scroll options to access more info. Once I know how something works, I don't need to see instructions. However, I don't see why all this info couldn't be worked into some kind of tutorial system (either in game or out of game). Something that would be by itself, so it wouldn't impact anyone who didn't specifically want to see it. Perhaps an extension of the journal? Or better yet, make it something you have to find in game. A survival book, for example. Once you find it, it becomes part of your journal and you can see how to do various things. Overall, I like the idea of helping new users learn how to do things (without having to google for an answer), but I want to make sure that it doesn't make things messy visually once you get the hang of things.
