Horrible FPS on good machine, can't figure out why
tommy290 replied to Darkearth's topic in Troubleshooting
Something is definitely wrong, as I have almost the exact same setup, save for just one of the GPUs. I don't drop to 18 fps anywhere that I recall. Normally the game runs just fine for me. Try this guide: http://dayzintel.com/dayz-guides/dayz-standalone-performance-guide If you have SLI enabled, disable it. No idea if it'll work, but I know SLI sometimes causes problems with games. -
If you'd like this topic to remain unlocked, I'd suggest keeping focused on the topic and not arguing. Just a helpful hint to all, as I've seen the destruction wrought upon those unaware of orlok's insatiable appetite. :) So, regarding the idea that people will stop playing DayZ due to bugs because it isn't enjoyable: http://steamcharts.com/app/221100 I take this as evidence the bugs aren't that intolerable. Look, I know people don't like bugs. I get it. They're annoying and frustrating and sometimes ridiculous. A quick hop on the tracker shows there's about 10,000 reported bugs of some kind (not saying they're all valid/legit/etc, just they're in the tracker). As the developer, which one should you tackle first? How do you decide what's the most important to fix right now? The suggestion was made to take a couple releases and just focus on bugs. Fine. Let's pretend that happens. They solve 100 bugs with the next update. So now you've made 100 people happy. And 9,900 still scream that you're doing nothing and don't care about the customers because you didn't fix their particular bug. Game development isn't a simple process of going from A to B. I fully understand the opinion that bugs should be fixed. However, I completely disagree it's the best option for the devs to choose. Given a choice, at this stage of the game, I would have every dev work on foundational systems and save the "I just died for no reason" bugs for later.

As the saying goes, don't put the cart before the horse. The loot system is a core mechanism of the game. Zombie AI is a core mechanism of the game. Someone dies in an unexpected way that isn't repeatable? Not a priority. People can want the game to be enjoyable all they want, but that's the view of a player. If I were a developer, my concern would be getting the core systems working properly, then trying to get rid of minor annoyances. Early access is not meant for polish. If the game isn't enjoyable with the current idiosyncracies, then stop playing it. By all means, fix anything game-breaking, but getting OHKO'd by a zed once in awhile isn't game-breaking.

Here's a guide to get you started: http://dayzintel.com/dayz-guides/dayz-standalone-performance-guide As mentioned, low isn't always better for performance and in some cases seriously hurts it. AMD also has a hard time competing with Intel in the DayZ/Arma world, but Intel isn't required to have a good experience on either game. I would say first do the settings above and see what you can get. If it's still not playable, grab MSI Afterburner to monitor CPU and GPU load. I bet if there's a bottleneck, it's with the CPU. I'm not an expert by any means, but I would assume if the CPU is the bottleneck, then upgrading your GPU isn't going to do much for you. Thus, you'd be better off upgrading the CPU.

I believe this guide might be helpful for you.

This is the crux of the matter I think. It's not so much the criticisms, but the method of delivering those criticisms. People can argue the pros and cons of how loot spawns all day long and it doesn't bother me. But when someone comes in and starts throwing around "This game sucks! BI sucks! Your mom sucks! Your third grade teacher sucks! Everything in the world sucks!", it instantly renders their opinion invalid. I don't know why some people take changes that don't work as planned as some kind of personal attack by the devs. I can assure everyone the devs are not doing things for the sole purpose of making you (the player) irate. The way some people are foaming at the mouth you'd think someone from BI came to their house and punched their baby sister in the face. If you don't like the latest patch, explain why. Make your opinion heard! Give feedback! Use the bug tracker! Do everything a person is supposed to do during early access. But for the love of god, don't come to the forums and go on a tirade full of hyperbole and excessive use of caps lock. It won't help make the game better and you look like a spoiled brat that's too young to be playing DayZ in the first place.

Come on over to http://mustygaming.com/Forum/ We've got SA and mod servers, including a private hive for the mod along with an Overpoch mod server. Also have a TS server that's free for all to use. We like whisky, we like cigars, and we like not wearing pants.

I thought DayZ Commander was discontinued due to everything being on Steam now? Try getting everything through Steam and see what happens.

How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
tommy290 replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
Step 1: Post something and get called out for it Step 2: Edit post after the fact to change the original meaning Step 3: ??? Step 4: Profit! Edit: Added quote for context. ;) -
How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
tommy290 replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
Yup. Total assumption on my part. I have no reason to believe OP was going for high end gear. No reason whatsoever. :| I think the forum mods should compare your IP to Mr. Ruffles. You're really adamant about defending him for some reason. Are you his alt account??? -
rare items ///// don't just make it military gear
tommy290 replied to Wookieenoob's topic in Suggestions
This is the only part I don't agree with. I don't want just junk strewn about. I want items that have a purpose. I'd love to see the crafting aspect become one of the main features of the game. As you mentioned, cell phones that can be used for improvised bombs are a great idea. Stuff like that I can get behind. I don't mind a few rare things that are just for decoration, but I'd really like most things to be used in the creation of something else that impacts your survival. Things for a water collection system, traps, etc. Doesn't have to be anything monumental, just something that improves some portion of your "life" in DayZ. -

To be fair, you did edit your post quite a bit. Not really fair to call people out for not reading your post when you changed the context of what it originally said. -
How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
tommy290 replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
Then why not just play on the server you go to for action all the time? If population isn't a factor, why loot on one server as opposed to another? -
How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
tommy290 replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't really call it an ambush, since they would have no way of knowing you were there. I'm not sure what other option there would be to avoid the situation, aside from not letting people log in where they logged out. Seems that would be a little jarring as well, kind of like waking up and not being in the same spot you went to sleep. -
How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
tommy290 replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
I disagree. The methods may be different, but the end goal is the same: trying to get high-end loot without having to worry about other players killing you while you search for it. To me it's a little disingenuous to complain about getting killed by someone who did nothing except log in and defend themselves. There's no evidence the other player was a "server hopper" other than they logged into an area that has arbitrarily been deemed a server hopper hotspot. Even if they were somehow proven to be a server hopper, the OP's complaint is basically "I chose a server that almost no one plays on so I could get loot without any risk, but someone still killed me legitly!" I can only speculate, but I would venture to guess people who switch between servers depending on their mood have a very high correllation between their mood and the amount of high-end gear they currently posses. ;) -
How many times have you been killed by a server hopper?
tommy290 replied to Insane Ruffles's topic in General Discussion
How do you know it was a server hopper and not someone who just happened to log in to play? Also, you state that you "use one server for looting". That leads me to believe you play on at least two servers, and you don't use the other server for looting. Thus, doesn't that mean you yourself are a server hopper? Is there any difference if someone jumps between two servers and a dozen? Not to me. If you use a low pop server to gear up and then play on a different server, I don't think you have any right to complain when someone kills you who may have been doing the same thing as you. -
I'm a complete noob to PC gaming and Dayz...

Find a fireman's axe (yellow and red kind). OHKO on zombies. Makes things much simpler. -
If the persistence mechanic isn't working, how is adding another object with persistence capabilities going to help? It seems that it would actually be making the system work harder, because now it has to add in a "persistence check" to see if there's a plot pole before deciding whether to keep track of an object. I would think the better solution is to simply keep working on global persistence until it functions correctly.

Not at all since you get the full game on release. If you had to pay again for the full version, then yes, it would be immoral. As for the OP, here's another place to keep in mind: http://isthereanydeal.com/ It'll show you current deals and historical pricing info from a multitude of legit sites. I have my account set up to automatically import my Steam Wishlist and send me emails when games get discounted a certain amount. You can control when you get notified on a game-by-game basis, which is handy since some games I don't care about until they're significantly discounted and others I want to know about basically any discount.

Please note that I cannot confirm any of the following will work. I'm just theorizing. :D Here's one link that might help: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129 That talks about moving everything though, which may not be your intent. I know on my system I have two locations for games. One is on a standard HDD and the other is on a SSD. When I install a game, I can choose between either one. I can't remember exactly how I did it though. I think in your case, you might be able to simply create a new folder on the SSD and then copy all the game files from the original directory to the new one. Make sure you keep the same folder structure that Steam uses (/SteamApps/common/DayZ) inside the new folder. I'd rename the original folder to something else just in case moving stuff doesn't work. I assume (not positive though) that when you start Steam it'll say it can't find the files and ask if there's a new location. Point it to your new folder and see what happens. EDIT: Look at kichi being all slick with a numbered list and shit.

I'd say just find a new server. There are plenty to choose from, so no need to keep going back to one that has crappy admin.

Could be the big group of military tents west of Myshkino.

I don't see how this would serve any purpose. BI, I assume, owns all rights to DayZ. Since they're creating a standalone version, why would they use resources to create a mod for A3? Plus, why create a mod that has to deal with the issues of the base game, rather than have a separate game where they can change whatever they want because it's standalone? Other groups are making DayZ-esque mods for Arma 3, but I don't see any reason to have an "official" DayZ mod for A3.

Looking for a new overpoch server.. (Permanent if possible)
tommy290 replied to OldManTed's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'd like to invite you (and anyone else who is looking for Overpoch) to Musty: http://mustygaming.com/Forum/index.php/topic/3353-a-musty-overpoch/ I had never played Overpoch until we got a server up, but man it's fun! Plus, you'll be hard pressed to find a more active admin than Baker (he's the one that spearheaded getting Overpoch up on our servers). He's done a ridiculous amount of customization. If you need anything or have issues, just post them on our forums and you'll get help quickly. If you don't want to go through the process of signing up on the forums and all that, feel free to just hop on the server: 198.24.156.194: 2603 Also, if you're the chatty type, we've got a free Teamspeak server for you: There's public channels so you can talk to randoms playing, or you can create your own private channel so you and your teammates can communicate freely.
