Why SSD is good for Arma2/Dayz Completed

Yes, but not in this case. Arma2 benefits from a faster read/file transfer speed that an SSD provides. You can try it yourself on a smaller scale without having to buy an SSD. Why else do people put DayZ on a portion of their RAM using RAMDisk? Since the @Dayz file is on RAM (which is a lot faster than any HDD or SSD) it allows a significantly faster file transfer which results in higher performance in-game.

Why SSD is good for Arma2/Dayz Completed

Testing Environment: (Controlled Variables) GFX: EVGA Nvidia GTX 660ti CPU: Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3GHZ (stock) RAM: 8GB Corsair 1600 MHZ HDD: 7200 RPM Hitachi 250GB SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 64GB Nvidia Driver 314.22 Latest DayZ and Beta patch Program Settings: RESULTS: (Benchmark over 60 seconds) HDD: FPS Min:22 Max:27 Average: 24 SSD: FPS Min: 35 Max: 52 Average: 44 Source Files: HDDMINMAX.txt SSDMINMAX.txt Video Comparison: (Same server is being played in both videos) HDD: SSD: Conclusion: Besides speeding up loading times significantly, an SSD will increase DayZ performance by around 15-20 FPS. If you already have a pre-existing SSD I highly recommend installing Arma2, Arma2 OA and DayZ on it, as it will make your DayZ experience more enjoyable. If you don't have an SSD, I feel as if it isn't worth the fps increase as the cheapest SSD will be around the $50-$80 range.

Low FPS ? - things to check

:beans: For some reason, my thread with the results were deleted? Edit: just merged with another thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/140532-why-ssd-is-good-for-arma2dayz-completed/

Low FPS ? - things to check

Also his SSD is faster than mine so results won't be similar but it will be important to see if any significant increase in frames per second is observed.

Low FPS ? - things to check

My specs are: EVGA Nvidia 660ti GTX Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3 GHZ Corsair 8 GB RAM @ 1600 MHZ Right now I've got Arma2, DayZ and Arma OA on my HDD which is an old 250GB 7200 RPM Hitachi and I will later reinstall it on my 64GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD to test Zgraphz's theory. I'll make sure to document everything and try to keep the testing environment similar. I've got an ass ton of free time right now.

    Making Day-Z Run Smoothly?

What you are implying in your statement above is that the reason why people have such shitty fps while playing(not loading) DayZ is because they don't have it and ArmA2 installed on an SSD. From the results I've seen through research, that is false unless you have a proper source or link to back it up with. You could have replied in a more helpful and explaining way but chose to reply immaturely because someone called you out on your claims.

Why does Dayz lag for me?

I agree with the new CPU and graphics card but the in-game performance between an SSD and HDD is the same.

    Making Day-Z Run Smoothly?

Alright, I've seen you say this a couple times on the forums now and it has actually prompted me to create an account just so i can reply to you. Will you please show us your source to back up these statements and claims. I've researched what you've been saying for a bit now and the usual result is that SSDs do NOT affect the in-game performance at all. Yes, it will speed up the initial loading time but aside from that, having Arma2 and DayZ on an SSD will make no noticeable difference on the FPS in-game. SSDs are still pretty expensive and players should not be advised to buy one to increase their frames per second because it doesn't.
