I thought I would share some thoughts I've had from the SA so far. I've been playing the Mod for a long time now so its great to get into SA finally. Its further along than I expected actually. There are a couple of things that new players seem to hate that I actually really like so I hope they aren't "casualled" too hard due to feedback. - Status indicators I actually really like the subtlety of the text base status indicators. Having icons in your inventory is a good middle ground, but I really don't want to get to the point where an indicator can tell me EXACTLY how I'm doing like in the mod. Survivors in 99% of cases are not doctors. The variety of different statuses and trying to figure out how they work has been really cool. Obviously the messaging needs to be tuned so its not super annoying. But the general sense of "I feel faint" and don't know exactly why is right in the spirit of the game and I hope it can be expanded a lot. Its like a stream of conciousness for my tune, which adds a cool atmosphere I think. Starting a fresh spawn basically starving and thirsty is great. I think the main thing here is players misinformed about how it works, but having your thirst quenched and being well hydrated are two intuitively different things. Imagine being holed up in a house for 2 weeks while shit goes down, when you come out you might drink some water and snack and be "quenched" but you are still super dehydrated / essentially starving etc. A big chow down / drink session would be priority one. Diminishing the value of a new spawn beyond gear is really important to making a long living character even more valuable. When exhaustion comes back, I think there can be a lot of nuance to the current system, different sicknesses requiring different cures but not knowing specifically which, thirst/sickness/hunger affecting exhaustion etc. etc. there is a lot that can be done here and its really interesting so far. -Map and Loot Spawns I actually also really like loot only spawning on server restart. Seeing what has been looted through by open doors, and finding the things other players leave behind is great. At the end of the day, you can always hop to a low pop server if you need anything. Going all the way up to NWAF and seeing all the doors open and just knowing it was already ransacked is actually awesome in my view. This makes the little towns and non-coastal areas much more interesting. I think the server restarts could cause a little bit of a feeding frenzy each time, especially on busy servers. This is actually kind of fun, and having everyone bomb into Cherno trying to get the fresh gear would cause a bit of a riot, in a good way. Its punishing for new players, but in a sense it should be. I like having the coast essentially barren, as it would be if a lot of people suddenly entered a town like this. Players should be encouraged to get off the coast and explore ASAP, and the current system is a great way to do this. Also a bit of a dice roll on whether a new spawn is going to be able to get setup is a good thing in my view. Right now anyone who knows where to go can get geared quickly, I'd like to see luck be a real factor in getting a new spawn off the beach for everyone. My only real input into the map is that right now the West Side of the map is super OP. I haven't really found much on the east half worth going to, NEAF is okay, Berez is good for meds. Thats about all. On the west side, Kamenka through Belota are by far the best spawns right now IMO. Balota -> Military Base -> Zelenogorsk -> Green Mountain -> Military Base -> NWAF is a crazy bountiful run and doesn't even take too long. On the east half there are little towns and not much else, it would be good to spread things out a bit. - Equipment The quality of the equipment and items is great. Can't wait to see what happens with this and how it will affect the tunes. I had full gear and after some zombie chomps I noticed my shirt was ripped in the back and checked and it was RUINED! NOES! I don't think this really matters yet, but this kind of real time change in gear is sick. I hope this has huge effects on characters later on, as it will really make constantly looting valuable as your gear degrades, rather than loot-> stash/hoard -> go kill bambies every single time like in the mod. Obviously there are bugs and glitches. I just really hope the main new things I've seen in the mod like the text updates, and low refresh timing on loot can remain a part of the game. There is a ton of room for nuance, expansion, and immersion hidden in these things, and I hope they are expanded to their potential rather than eliminated because new players are new. This game is really punishing and hard to figure out, but it should be. My first hours in the alpha have been full of exploration, system testing, trying to figure out the world. And thats how I think it should be.

Veteran Player's Feedback (18 Hours Deep)

The jeans and t-shirts are from people who have gotten there before. Most of the towns are 100% not looted on the servers I've played on. Most of the buildings that people used to get loot in, in towns that everyone goes to are looted. Everything else is pretty much untouched in my experience. Balota = Shit Show. Cherno = Shitshow. Elektro = Shitshow. NWAF = Shitshow. Go new places. Explore a bit. Towns I have never even looked at in the mod (because there was no point) are where I am getting my loot to start off a new character. Usually as soon as you see a town you can see if all the doors are open, and you can make the call if its worth looking or just move to the next town and have better luck. I like this, I think it adds depth and realism to looting. -

I have a weird taste in your mouth. -
From what I can tell, if you get hit by zombies you will have "infected" wounds and won't regen health even if you are full / not thirsty / not sick. Antibiotics will give you "clean/less painful wounds" messages over about 30 mins, and finally a Green Message saying they are clean. After this, if you are still all good, you will start regenning health. From what I've seen, this is needed after ANY zombie strike to you.
-
I think thirst hasn't been working since they took out exhaustion. You can be full and drink but you never get RED thirst messages anymore. I don't think there are negative effects from it at the moment, but may prevent you from regenning.
-
Saline is instant but you need someone to give it to you. I was surprised by the antibiotics / wounds thing too. I don't think it matters if you bandaged first / i know it works for anti's afterwards. Not sure how using clean bandages instead of rags affects it, or whether alcohol could be put on after bandaging (I'm not actually sure its in the game, I haven't seen any). I was actually surprised by the antibiotics. I took them because I was sick. And it popped up "your wounds feel cleaner". I was all like WTF? But it was nice to have a positive message from DayZ for a change :). It takes quite a long time, maybe 30 mins or so, before you get the green clean wounds message. Not 100% sure still, its hard to tell at night, but I definitely wasn't regenning health before I did that, and seem to have afterwards.

Loot only spawns on restart. There may be a bit of delay for the server to "populate" it though when you go into an area. So it looks like things spawn, but it would only be things left behind by the last people in. I usually look for open doors, easiest way to tell if an area has been entered since restart.

Suggestion: Spread out the military grade spawns
5P4RK4 (DayZ) replied to whatup2003's topic in General Discussion
I still think this is a bit unbalanced. (Having been all over the map in the last 2 days.) The west side of the map is HEAVILY weighed right now. Spawn Balota, NW to military base, zelenogorsk, Green Mountain, NW to military base, NWAF is a solid run and will leave you 100% kitted almost every time. The East side of the map has almost nothing. I haven't been into Solnichny so not sure if there is anything new there, but NEAF is really the only good spawn. Berez has no military tents anymore. Elektro -> Rog -> Solnichny -> Berez -> NEAF will give you most things you need but pretty low chance of good mil loot. Maybe I'm just missing some things but right now Balota to Kamenka is by far the best spawn and I don't really see a point to being on the Eastern half of the map. -
Have you been hit by zombies? From what I can tell getting hit by zombies leaves "infected" wounds. You need to find antibiotics or alcohol to clean them. Over time you get messages saying "your wounds feel cleaner" etc. and eventually a green "your wounds are clean" message. I think if you have these you won't regen health. Also Saline IV kits are the blood bags from the mod. They will basically regen you fully if used on you by someone.

sick how to cure besides antibiotics?
5P4RK4 (DayZ) replied to smthistle's topic in General Discussion
Don't drink it ^^ Sickness just takes time to cure. Stay full and watered and it will pass I think. Note that when you get the green "Your hunger is satisfied" / thirst messages you are not actually full, just no longer starving. Eat / Drink a few times more after you get this message and eat/drink again as soon as hunger/thirst messages start to appear again. Antibiotics "clean" wounds over time. I'm not sure how they affect sickness. If you get hit by zombies you have "infected" wounds that need cleaning before you will heal. If you eat antis you get a message "Your wounds are less painful" "your wounds feel cleaner" etc and after about 30 minutes you get a green message saying "your wounds are clean". Then if you are full food and water and not sick you should start regaining health slowly. -
Charging people money to help you "make" a game....
5P4RK4 (DayZ) replied to jBrick's topic in General Discussion
There is just no benefit to it. Bug reports. Yes. Complaining about the state of the release? No. Don't buy it. -
Criticism on this forum is not allowed I see...
5P4RK4 (DayZ) replied to kragz's topic in General Discussion
Eating and drinking does work, the messaging was poorly tuned so they showed up right away though, you could still tell how far down the "scale" you were by paying attention to the frequency and severity of the messaging. Perfect? Absolutely not. Workable? Absolutely yes. To the other post, why would they offer refunds? There were disclaimers everywhere. At your own risk type shit. You didn't have to jump in on day 1 if you weren't expecting it to be at LEAST this bad. Research before you buy, watch some streams, read the warnings. Its no one's fault but your own if you got in too early. -
Constantly hearing zombies where ever I go. Is this normal?

Dont buy it. Dont play it. What else do you want anyone to say? Come back later when you are happy with it. Its fully playable. Its more polished than I expected actually. No one owes anyone anything here, you got what you signed up for. -
Go north. I'm kitted. No hopping.

dont let the door hit you on the way out. -
Eat, drink, rest, don't sprint. You won't pass out. GG. Rocket please don't casual this up. Indicators will help (but I think even these are not needed if the messaging was tuned). From playing yesterday once I figured out how it worked I didnt pass out anymore. Protip: find saline. Protip: eat and drink often. Protip: rest and don't get sick.

Loot system should be adjusted (less dependency on server start)
5P4RK4 (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
I didn't have any issues finding loot at all. Get off the coast, the inland is bountiful. You can tell what buildings have been looted by open doors usually, and even in those there was gear (you can only carry so much). Once you figure out what buildings have high spawn rates, server restarts should really not matter that much. The gear cap is extremely low right now, there is very little benefit to farming or getting a server restart timed perfectly. Just go to new places, there is gear literally everywhere. -
So...how are you SUPPOSED to lose agro (mod and standalone)?
5P4RK4 (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I remember when interiors were the ONLY way to lose aggro, and why you started with a makarov. Don't complain. If all else fails run down a hill. -
so many hearts for this building.
