Less guns = less casual surely. The game plays more like Battlefield than a hardcore survival simulator at the moment.

I've heard troubling rumours...(no helis)

Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
No, players who KoS aren't terrible at the game. It's an utterly ridiculous notion to even suggest so. However, players who camp for freshies at Elektro/Kamy are terrible, no doubt. -
[POLL] Do you regret buying the SA?

Should The Alpha Disclaimer Let The Game Off The Hook?
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to Prag's topic in General Discussion
The alpha disclaimer absolutely lets it off criticism in terms of the amount of bugs and lack of features. By all means, report bugs and suggest/discuss features but if you want to throw harsh criticism about the game and developers while judging the Standalone in it's current then I'm sorry, but the alpha was not meant for you. Come back in a year. -
It amazes me how many people hang off Rockets every word. "Rocket said DayZ is fundamentally flawed, hurr durr, it must be and I'm done with DayZ". I tend to disagree with Rocket on this one as I struggle to find a better concept for a game than DayZ. I must have sunk near to a thousand hours into the mod/standalone so to me, it's clear the game does something right. Rockets recent comments don't change my view of the game - I just think he meant that he believes he can make much better games, and I look forward to seeing what he comes up with. Too many drama queens in this community that apparently can't think critically for themselves.

"Fundamentally flawed concept" - One of the greatest games I have ever played. I want to hear Rockets idea of a good concept.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
This is old news and everyone was literally warned by the devs not to buy the game. Why are people going crazy and crying 'scam' all of a sudden? -
I like it. Nice middle finger to the majority of publishers that think releasing dumbed down titles for the casual masses is the only way to make money off games. 1.5m sales. No marketing. Not bad at all.

I've just mercilessly gunned down two men...
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to Mctoot's topic in General Discussion
You were at an airfield and he shot first. Nothing to be guilty about. I consider military bases 'competitive' zones - as in, players are there competing for high grade loot - and they're the only place I KoS without question. -
I wish that military gear/weapons were really rare
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to JAGTAG9606's topic in General Discussion
Hopefully, if what Rocket says is true, they will be very rare. The tears, however, will definitely not be rare -
Thinking of taking a short break.
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to Cenobyte's topic in General Discussion
I really want to take a break. Break from the game and news about the game. Then in a month or two I can come back to loads of new content... ... but I just can't. There's hardly anything to do in DayZ Standalone yet except farm loot and PVP and it still shits over most other games. -
Elektro. Hands town. Take four guys down there and run around the main roads. Wait for the brazen solo rooftop snipers to engage you then take them out.
-
I play a good mix of the two. Mainly 3PP with a large group as that is the clan server and it's seemingly what most people want to play. A few of us really like 1PP though and we have played a lot of that. My 'solo' character is on a Hardcore server too. The main difference I've noticed between the two is in respect of combat/PVP. Squad firefights in 3PP are usually just camp fests; you don't need to come out of cover when you have an invisible periscope. No risk - all the rewards. 1PP combat has a far quicker pace and relies a lot more on positioning, awareness and movement. Definitely a higher skill gap for PVP on first person. It's like playing two different games. Having said that, I love the set up Bohemia have now. Regular & Hardcore. Everyone's happy.

What sort of player are you on DayZ? *QUIZ*
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to Flagella's topic in General Discussion
What sort of Player are you on DayZ? Your Result: Survivor 86%You are the all round DayZ player who depending on his mood will choose whether to kill or not to. You tend to talk to people but shoot anyone who appears to be a threat. At least however you don't go around sniping new spawns on the coast. 24%KOS'er 23%Hero 20%Bandit -
Why the dayz formula will ultimately fail
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to randalmcdaniels's topic in General Discussion
I agree with you that loot and spawns should be balanced far better and I'm sure they will be, but I must take issue with you stating that the DayZ formula will ultimately fail. Fail in what way? Commercially? Mod played buy thousands, alpha bought by well over a million. Critically? Opinions are like assholes... As a survival game? Yeah it could do, but I think that has less to do with the spawns and more to do with the game being too easy. -
How Much Time Has Passed Since The "outbreak" Happened?
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to nudelwalker's topic in General Discussion
It never even started. The indigenous folks of Chernarus are just that crazy. -
Is there anything being planned that incentivizes not shooting on sight?
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Like many others, I played the mod extensively. Vanilla, DayZero, Origins, Epoch etc. Played a lot of different versions - every one with varying amounts of content and varying degrees of meta 'anti bandit' mechanics. And guess what? The majority of players kill on sight - for numerous reasons - in every single version of the mod. Alternative content helped occupy players with other things so there was seemingly less PVP, but it was still always the same demographic of players. This has always been DayZ. If you're new to DayZ Standalone and you complain about KoS, you should have done your homework better. If you played the mod and still complain about KoS, you need a new game. -
Have you checked if your character is still alive?

Hyperbole. This rarely happens.

Is it better to travel with your gun in your hands or on your back?
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I take mine out when I'm 1-2km outside a 'settlement'. -
Often the developers of games are quoted because it's the most direct source of information. Horses mouth, if you will. I don't see what your problem is?

Death is your endgame.

Are you good at finding players from gun sounds?
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
It's definitely strange. I hope it get's fixed though - it worked really well in the mod. We were always using gunshots to find each other if we got separated in the middle of nowhere and using sounds to pinpoint players adds more depth to fire-fights. I suspect this will be one of the last things Bohemia implement though before the Beta, as sounds are so often dependent on animations etc. -
Are you good at finding players from gun sounds?
Nocturnal (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
This. The mod was fine but the sounds don't seem to work properly in the standalone, I usually play in a squad and if there's a gunshot some say east, some say west and the rest didn't even hear it.
