A Look Back at My Two Year Love Affair with DayZ and Similar Mods; And How They've Shaped My Perspective on The Genre
Baker. replied to Nickprovs's topic in Gallery
Great job. Very well done. Have some beans -
As is the case with your PC. Although I'm working on a hack to get Windows to run off my modem :P
-
No argument there, but as I made sure to point out in all my posts regarding this matter, the acceptability of performance assumes a more optimized (think multithreaded with gpu calls that were previously CPU calls) engine. Which they know they have to do and combined with the control scheme is probably the lions share of the porting process (chime in anytime accolyte)
-
False, higher clock speed yes but same architecture with half the amount of cores plus much higher latency between system components. And this assumes a multithreaded engine. in addition the system is optimized to run nothing but the game and related services; no print spooler, no iTunes helper. A simple look at your task manager will show you all the little things chewing up your cycles that will not be have an impact on PS4 titles. The Cpu in PS4 can also clock itself higher to an, as of yet unknown, higher clock speed. Bottom line is: it sports better specs than many, if not most, PC's that attempt to run the game in its current unoptimized state. People like us with serious hardware will always prefer to run the PC version of any game but that doesn't mean the PS4 will be incompetent in its abilities. Small PS. Sony has stated many times that it is selling PS4's at a loss so the $400 price tag isn't anything to judge its capabilities on. However even if you were so inclined $400 can get you a fairly decent bang for your buck

I'm not making it out to be anything, those are the specs. Do they have to dumb down DayZ to play on a computer with an AMD chip and a even a Radeon 7850? I fail to see your logic DD. The answer is they dont. Plus consider the development of a multithreaded engine.
-
Yeah I think its a leftover mentality from the PowerPC console days. The PS4 has an 8 core x86 processor and a Radeon 7870 paired with 8Gb of GDDR5. Once the engine becomes multithreaded it will run like a beast.

Not sure what everyone is arguing about. A DayZ console port has far to little impact on any of our lives to warrant such aggression as displayed above. If DayZ becomes shit due its availability on PS4 then rest assured someone will make the product you are looking for on PC so they can take your money. Arma 3 2017 is also in the works which looks promising, and the mod is better than ever. It seems to me most people (myself included) are too hung up on DayZ SA not being the game you want. Go back to the mod for a while, its still really fun and there are enough pure vanilla servers to satiate all of us. The mod is still fun and hard as shit. The Zombies work, the loot works, tents work, stashes work, there are lots of guns and TBH the Arma 2 graphics aren't too damn shabby. The graphics as well can be made a lot more bloomy with sweetfx or other shader mods. And since everyone is complaining about the hats and track pants you are in luck as you will find none of those there.....

No sir there are some left http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/208211-pure-vanilla-dayz-by-bakerland/

-=Bakerland=- PURE VANILLA DAYZ! No side chat, no mods, regular weather and time, minimal BEC messages. 6 Hour Restarts. Just pure DayZ the way Rocket/R4Z0R49 intended it. 184.164.143.123:2302 www.bakerland.ca

Thanks man. I agree ;) There arent many "DayZ" Servers anymore.
-
Just wanna throw this out there, I own a PS4 and the gear in my sig. If you fuggers can make a finished, polished DayZ Standalone then I'd play it on a god damned Commodore. God speed!

Many a hearts were broken that day...........

You are dashingly handsome, that's off topic.

This must come across different than you intended. As this appears as though you are giving BIS shit for doing what every other game in the history of the universe has done i.e. start development in Alpha. Plus in most cases you get a console release then a PC port. As much as I shit on BIS for their management style being the equivalent of throwing cream pies at a fan, they always put PC first. Not many people use consoles as an afterthought. At least give them credit where credit is due.
-
you will get zero improvment in dayz by running a crossfire setup. it is always best to get the single best card you can afford.
-
it needs some major optimization to run well on a pc
-
The underwear I have on is older than this. Its the blink of an eye my friend

Again, I really want to say how I appreciate you subjecting yourself to this. It was obviously released a little too early. The way it sits in its current form and its development afterward would have most likely satiated the community a little more adequately. It seems as though it was released so early due to pressure from said community, who in turn felt it should have been more than it was. We wanted it released = we had expected it to be farther along. Question One. Do you think the first stage of development was perhaps a little bit lackadaisical? Or are we expecting too much? And if so how? Will future development be geared more towards optimizations now that consoles are involved? Question Two. There cannot be much involved in porting DayZ to PS4, am I right? Write a new executable and come up with a control scheme no? I LOVE COLOURS
-
The reason the community is so broke up about it is we expected it to be farther along. If it was released in its current state a year ago I think we would have been less critical.
