Could you choose a laptop under £1200
Baker. replied to HystericalHyena's topic in Technology/Programming
I have always been a fan of the MSI "g" series. Great performance at a great price. -
Fov is extremely subjective even with 3pp players. If you ask 20 people I would suspect you would get 15+ answers. They already give us an option to disable headbob which would, were that not an option to disable it, be the #1 thing i would suggest. I often wonder if some of the less arma-familiar players know you can even do this. I have yet to encounter a individual that isn't made totally nauseous by it yet it is enabled by default. Perhaps it should be disabled by default.

Lol. It's not an argument. This has been decided. An no amount of foot stomping from your vocal minority is going to change that. But as I have said 1000 times go play 1st person no one will stop you, hell people like me pay for and administrate 1st person servers just to cater to your lot. But don't pretend that its better just because you and judopunch think so. -

You do realize that no one likes it right? There are a literal handful of you. Bohemia graciously accommodates your small crowd so whats the problem? I'll answer my own question: you are alone, you have no one to play with otherwise why would it matter? We cannot help the fact that you and a vocal minority on these very forums hold some silly elitist view that 1st person is the only way to play and 3rd person players are exploiters. We cannot help that no one wants to play 1st person. They should add tumbleweed models, so they can blow across the highways of 1st person DayZ servers. -
You would walk around thinking this with your socket wrenches and bag of food, and i would murder you to feed my kids. In a new york minute.

"Kill em all and let god sort em out" One thing I typically take from the design direction, and please correct me if I misread these things, is a parallel with what I considered to be one of the greater follies of the mod development and Deans early description of his goals for the standalone. For instance I recall Dean stating once that a certain feature would "combat the kill on sight mentality" and therein lies my point. It appears as though development is whitewashing the original experience in an attempt to balance all the different playstyles, to make it easier to be a hermit or a "friendly" and less difficult to bandit etc. The mod experience (I'm sure purely by accident) created what felt to me like the most authentic simulation of the zombie apocalypse or any post apocalyptic scenario I had ever seen. In a real Apocalypse it would be easier to rob and steal your way to power, it would be easier to let others spend weeks gathering and scavenging and then take it from them. It should be harder to play with morality as it would be harder in life. It didn't feel like there were many ingame barriers to playing the way you wanted other than the good will of other players. DayZ was not just a survival game, it was a sociological experiment. It was "Lord of the Flies" and it was wonderful. I just hope we don't lose that in favor of making it easier to be a "care bear". Some of what I read here seems very promising. But as a current mod player and former SA player I just feel like I can put my own finger on what is missing for me. "Zones" should be defined by the players, by people and their will, like all in game activity. I pray this is a part of your design goals if for nothing other than my own selfish reasons.

1st person servers exist. They give you everything you want: 1st person all the time. The sad truth is, however, that it is a vocal minority that enjoys this playstyle and 1st person servers generally speaking are ghost towns. This leads folks like your self to continually propose the removal or modification of 3rd person to a point where it is acceptable to a 1st person-centric player. They/you propose this so the rest of us are forced to switch and therefore direct population towards themselves/yourself. If 1st person was as amazing and desirable as some (again very vocal) members of the community would have us believe then these posts wouldn't exist, as they would all be quite satisfied playing amongst them selves, chattering back and forth about what horrible noobs all us 3rd person people are. -
Take heed my good friend for the days when the map is foreign and strange are the finest days of dayz.

How many resources are being used on improving third person?
Baker. replied to Connect3d's topic in General Discussion
Connect3d Posted Today, 11:42 AM I assume you've taken away the first person EXP servers because we're suppose to tell you about the third person camera, but I personally think third person is too stupid to even bother testing. So please keep a few first person EXP servers.. -

I saw your yarded post in regards to 1st person experimental servers, I assume this post is articulated from the angle that since you hate third person you feel that they are wasting their time improving it. Rest assured you are in the minority. BUT REJOICE! The dev's have kept you in mind and I have heard no whispers that tell tale of the death of the 1st person view. Server owners (an exclusive club to which you could become a member at any time) are, and will always be, allowed to force 1st person view for those whom desire that playstyle. Its a wonderful compromise that seems to displease those whom march to the beat of the "ERMAGERD WALLHACKS!" drum but satiate most other players. It's an argument I find strange and unnecessary, but I am just a weak voice in a large crowd so far be it from me to attempt to further pacify your 3rd person bloodlust. *Hugs* -Baker -
You havent updated your filters EDIT Read the rest of the thread and assume you know this. :P

In a sense I think you are correct. Must be something along the lines of calling the same array for all uncooked items via BIS_fnc_selectRandom. There are people who know more about this than me but if this is the case I don't see why they couldn't exclude worms from said function. HOWEVER, it doesn't appear as though there is currently any way to differentiate between fresh and old meat. cut beef or worms that have been in your rucksack for a few weeks surely would make you sick. What I would like to see if a system that allows for food spoilage. Fresh meat = Fine to eat Old Meat = Gradual increasing chance of food poisoning Spoiled Meat = Food poisoning. But that's just this poor Cape Bretoners opinion and, like asshole's, everyone has one.

Upgrading my rig with DayZ in mind - AMD or Intel?
Baker. replied to ZomboWTF's topic in New Player Discussion
For DayZ and BIS games in general, whatever CPU offers better per core performance which at the moment is Intel. -
How one could get sick from freshly cut raw beef, baffles me. Same as getting sick from well water. At least in the mod they put rotten corpses around infected water sources. I can only hope these are used as placeholders to a more refined system later on. Not that it matters much. The brand is getting fairly tarnished these days anyways. I was looking at the steam charts and its not super promising. People might say "oh they'll come back after its fixed", but that's not typically how that kind of thing works. One need only look to brands like blackberry and sega. But fingers crossed it all works out in the end. I love me some dayzmod and was really rooting for its offspring.

Who really cares anymore? The game isn't ready nor should it be. If you worked at a studio and were alpha testing would you barge into hicks' office screaming "FIX THE F$%^ING GAME!!!" ? I wouldn't think so. There is another option...I just play the mod. They are still working on it and have added some wonderful things. plus it has these things CARS PERSISTENCE (TENTS/STASHES) FUNCTIONING LOOT LETHAL ZOMBIES HELICOPTERS ITEM DEGRADATION CREEPY MUSIC INFECTION SYSTEM ...and tonnes more. The texture detail is largely the same(make sure you have PMC installed). It lacks some of the lighting effects however who gives a shit since it runs 10x better. Im not talking aboot ( Steak and Potatoes )overpoop or overpochingszero. Just DayZ Mod. Someday Standalone will be finished and potentially great but until then I pop in and out see that its nothing I'm interested in and go back to the mod.
