Server Hopping (Possible fix, third server option "semi-private")
Baker. replied to Baker.'s topic in Suggestions
How is it a free teleport? Your position would be saved on the server you are playing. By your logic when you join a private hive its a free teleport. -
Did some digging as this is a great deal http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220798R

Hey man what does cheap mean to you? $300? 500? 800? Also what part of the world are you in? Can you build it yourself or do you want a ready made machine?

Then just log into the same server and you'll be in the same spot? -

Yes, server specific positional co-ords would be ideal, failing that randomize within a specific radius of say 2000m when logging into a new server. Meaning the hive can recognize that you are up north or out west but wont put you in the exact same position you left a previous hive server. These randomized co-ords would only be applied if you logged into a server fresh with no existing character data. The immersion gets completely sucked out of the game when you are at a military loot spawn and there is a steady stream of hoppers popping in and out. All this could be accomplished with a few quick "if ____ then" statements I would think -

I wouldn't think it would have to be the coast, it would be a fairly easy to call a function that places you within a 2000 meter radius of logout point. Cause as it stands now the military loot areas may as well not even be there, if a legit player wants to attempt to loot the area, you can scout and be ever so careful only to get shot in the back when a guy logs in behind you. -

No, private shards make you start over with a fresh character. -
That's quite the schpiel to ask for farts in game
-
Its only an issue if you think it is, and even though like minded people are a screaming minority, going 1st person doesn't fix the current state of 3rd person.
-
Getting there
-
Should take me a few weeks to get it to a playable state, then a few more to "dayz' up the map a bit
-
I also dont like how they restricted the upward radius to which i may shoot, honestly I like to shoot my straight in the air like a crazy person sometimes.

Ok, so all that seems to happen in this patch...

But the game like the world is populated with assholes. They wouldn't go away. And thats what makes your heart race thinking "is this guy gonna shoot me for no reason?" -

working on it now.

yep, even porting those maps one will need to switch a ton of the objects out for the newer enter-able versions

I like to run around in the woods like a crazy mental hermit, but without those PVP-KOS type people the fear i feel is much lessened, even when they work out the survival mechanics and it is legitimately hard to survive, I still want them there. -

At the west end of the "northern highway" I stopped and looked both ways. And the view was what I think sums up DayZ perfectly: It's an endless road in the middle of nowhere, clouds, looks like it's gonna rain, pine trees on the sides of the road, It just looks so cool and makes you feel like you are alone in the wilderness. Well too bad if you walk 1 km east boom there is a city. Imagine a 200kmx200km map where cities are 50-100km away from each other so you need a vehicle to travel between them. BUT they are bigger, so one person can't loot it in 10 minutes. Of course there would be smaller villages between them to loot on the way. You would be walking on a road almost dying of starvation and then coming across a lonely gas station and finding the last can of beans to keep you going for another day. Hunting and fishing would be the most reliable food sources and you HAD to make a camp maybe with a small farm in order to stay alive. You could find a small cottage with absolutely nothing around it for many kilometers except a little old path leading there. You could board it up and go hunting before the sun sets. Hiding your camp would be actually possible if you take the time to find a good spot. Chernarus is always Chernarus and it will probably be one of the most played maps even when modding comes out. It has it's own unique feeling and it is a good map overall. But a new map for the players who want a hardcore experience would be a breath of fresh air could be the a nice thing. And if there was a lot of wilderness without towns it wouldn't be an impossible task. Sure the big cities would take a lot of work but I would say it is possible. Maybe share your thoughts on this? When modding comes maps will be every where check out all the maps that exist already http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=arma2_oa_files_addons_islands

That doesn't seem like something that improves the 3pp camera. I think the new camera will be great once its a little more organic, it does feel slightly clunky now but its the first iteration.

What? I can't hear you. i have a ringing in my hear.

This has always been an issue with the hive system, private hives solve this if it concerns you.
