    Side chat re-enabled?

The Server is "FR 15" ... Hosted by EK. Full name ---- "DayZ - FR 15 (v1.7.1.4/Beta 93825) [3DP:ON][CH:OFF][uTC-4] dayzmod.com - Hosted by EK" I have just got on the server, and am on it as i am even typing this message, and side chat IS still enabled. As i said above, it uses DayZ version 1.7.1.4, and requires beta version 93825. It would be a shame if it is shut down, it has very little desync issues. Oh well. Also, i might add, I frequented this server for a few days, and it has only recently enabled side chat
  4. This newest patch is actually well done. There are still bugs, which is to be expected, but I like where this game is heading. Keep up the good work. (yes, i am one of the very few not complaining for once)

Ah, well that would explain it

    Side chat re-enabled?

I am in a server which uses the latest DayZ patch (1.7.1.4), requires the latest beta (93825).. and yet has Side Chat which is available to everyone in the room. Has side chat been re-enabled?
  7. Go figure.. i just made a thread about this same thing. lmao. Yeah, it is a bug that they need to fix. Did you get a pop-up error about "hatchet.cfg" like i did? Usually I ignore those errors.. but then this happened.

    1.7.1.2 bug

Date/time: June 19, 2012. 12:45AM GMT-4 (roughly) What happened: When I picked up an AK-74, a load of 2 piece shotgun shells fell on the ground (around 10 of them). They were all labeled "hatchet", despite looking like shotgun ammo. Where I was: Chernogorsk.. Specifically in the fire station What I was doing: I had signed back onto the server on after it reset (for some reason) and was sneaking through Cherno. After a couple of minutes, I saw an error which said that "hatchet.cfg" failed to load or something like that.. I usually ignore those errors so i didn't really read it, but i know it said "hatchet.cfg". A few minutes later, I sneaked into the fire station and saw the weapon. I clicked down on the middle mouse button to quickly take it, and noticed a lot of ammo bags dropped. I pressed G to take a look, and It was a load of 2 shot shotgun ammo (around 10 or so). It was puzzling, because I don't remember having any on me, and if i had any, it was only a few. Stranger was that they were all labeled "hatchet"!! I didn't want to mess with them, since it may be a duplication bug, so I left them on the ground. Current installed version: 1.7.1.2/93825 Server: FR 15 Server requirements: 1.7.1.2/93825 (Figured I would add that) Sorry for the lack of screen shots.. didn't think of reporting it until after the fact

    Hotfix Build 1.7.1.2 Rolling Update

is it possible to make it so you can somewhat see, but lock the gamma and brightness completely? This way everyone will have the same amount of brightness at night, and i don't have to turn up the gamma and brightness just to be able to see what is in front of me. It sucks because i have no choice but to turn both up to full at night, or the screen is completely (and i mean COMPLETELY) pitch black. The flash light is too bulky, so i don't have it on me unless i just spawned, and flares are still kinda dim. At least the night maps are playable now.. i just like to complain a lot i guess.. Overall, good job.

    Flashlight: The symbol of peace.

*facepalm* none of this will work. Most will just shoot the person in front of them, flashlight or not. Bandits will simply shoot the poor fellow even if he has a flashlight out. Players will eventually have to draw their regular weapon anyways, and, if a bandit, he will just shoot the other in the back of the head once he is close enough. Players may just shoot the person just in case it is a bandit. Whipping your flashlight out is the same as saluting: you will look rather silly when you are shot. There is absolutely no penalty for shooting others out of caution. So: Why shoot a person with a flashlight? Why not? Until they come out with some kind of penalty for being a bandit, there is absolutely no reason to not shoot people simply because it MAY be a bandit (and it usually is). And, as usual, saying "friendly" only tells them that there is someone near them for them to shoot. That is all
  12. To be honest, after thinking about it, I actually like what this patch did (i am sure i am one of the few on here not complaining). It still need to be worked on though, for example: Zombie vision range should be turned down slightly. The flashlight/torch should take up MUCH less space in your bag. (two spaces would make more sense).. most people simply dump it when they start finding stuff, since it takes up so much space. Zombies still run through closed doors.. this has not been fixed. MAIN: Banditry has only been slowed, but not at all deterred. They have to find a gun when they spawn, which takes a bit or work usually.. but after that, they are back in action. They still kill others, even if that person doesn't have a gun. They never killed for weapons or beans.. they killed for the lolz and knowing they are making someone's life a bit more of a pain.. and taking away the starter weapon only makes their job a bit easier. The only way to deter bandits is to have add penalties for being one. These are a few suggestions: If they murder someone, the "blood" on them attracts zombies, and they must use a water bottle (or water from the see or pond) to wash it off. Murdering someone sets a timer in which zombies can see you easier, while killing a bandit causes a timer in which zombies see you less. Vision becomes increasingly burred if you commit 2 or more murders. (or have trouble holding the gun still) Servers show who kills who and if someone is a bandit. If the person is a bandit, it shows their location. Example: Phantom Vader killed Mazzeric Phantom Vader is now a bandit! so any other kill after that.. [bandit]Phantom Vader (Chernogorsk) killed Tyler Goran. If the bandit is killed: [bandit]Phantom Vader (Chernogorsk) was killed by a zombie. or GreyfoxUK89 killed [bandit]Phantom Vader GreyfoxUK89 killed a bandit! etc.. those are only a few off the top of my head.
  13. SUMMARY: The night time experience is ABSOLUTELY destroyed, and is best avoided unless you are a masochist. I can actually see why they made it so nights are darker.. people would bring up their brightness and gamma all the way up and BOOM, instant night-vision. The problem is that they made night TOO dark. My screen, when it is night time, is PITCH BLACK even if i set the gamma and brightness all the way up. The only way i can tell that the game has loaded is by pressing the W button and listening for my footsteps. Towns are extremely hard to navigate since it is impossible to do so without throwing (now dimly lit) flares all over the place, which will obviously attract zombies. The wilderness is absolutely impossible to navigate, unless you are in a room which allows the map to show your exact location (if you are lucky enough to have a map).. and even then, it is extremely difficult, since you have to check that map every 3 seconds and throw flares like mad. If you don't have a map or the server doesn't allow you to see your position, there is nothing you can do besides run around aimlessly until you run out of flares or a zombie sees you and kills you. If you are on a night time map, and you don't have flares, you are screwed... period. You don't have a chance in hell to do ANYTHING on that map except sit there in total darkness and suck your thumb. Even if you have a map, navigating through town is impossible since you can not see ANY of the zombies, or houses, or roads, or open doors, or loot, or fences, or bandits, or team mates. If you have team mates, don't even think about sticking together, you won't get anywhere. You can't see each other unless you are ALL sitting on a flare or someone is holding a flare (sucks to be him, he will likely die).. and even then, not being able to see anyone else on the team renders coordination very, VERY hard. EFFECT: Almost every server has to change its time whenever it starts getting even remotely dark, otherwise the server completely empties. Instead of preventing people from using the brightness/gamma exploit, they made it so night time servers are nearly impossible to play. This DID hurt DayZ's popularity, as it completely broke the night time aspect of the game, which was popular with many people. Now me, and all my friends, have no choice but to avoid night maps like the plague, despite us (before) liking to play on them. Some don't even bother to play anymore. SOLUTION: Definitely ease up on the brightness and gamma lock, so we can be able to see. I suggest that you put the brightness/gamma to where it was normally (if brightness/gamma is set to 1.0), but to LOCK IT at 1.0. This way, you can only barely see, but it is still dark. The only way to get by this lock is to change your actual monitor settings, which most will not bother with. The goal is to make it hard to see, not impossible to see!!!!

    NL0 password protected

A server i used to go to called "NL0" (zero, not o) has been password protected for over 4 days now, with only a selected few people going in and out. I have read that Dev servers are supposed to NOT be password protected. Is this not a Dev server, or am I correct in that it shouldn't be PW protected? The full name is: "DayZ Zombie RPG - NL0 (v1.7.0) RU Z's server: Be gentle, be safe, have fun" Again, that is NL[zero] not NLo
