    Dealing with zombies unarmed?

strafe in circles using A or D keys, turn with mouse, raise your fists and aim above their head. These tactics will not work, or made harder after the next patch, when you start getting swarmed from re spawning zeds. I suggest running away and breaking line of sight. This means running around buildings, through trees and behind walls. Shouldn't take you too long to lose them and regain your safety :)

This is why we should use ArmA III's Engine.

This thread has perked my interest. I didn't play much of Arma 3 as there was a lot of content missing at the start, however I am re-installing now to see what I missed. I sort of forgot about it after dayz came along. Arma 3 ran very smoothly for me on SP when I did play and I was using high settings and a long draw distance. I unfortunately never got to try A2:CO when it was released but playing it with all the latest patches, A3 ran better with less fps drops. I might try a mp session tonight with A3 to see how the fps handles. On Topic: there was a reason why they overhauled the old engine to work with dayz sa.

    i lost it

Combat logging is a grey area, as everyone has different opinions. You need to find what your comfortable with and what works for you Kedde. My thoughts would be you have to be in combat in order to combat log. However my personal rule is, what would I do if given a different scenario? I plan to play for x amount of hours before I call it quits, if something happens I stay in game. Just my personal rule. So my question to you Kedde: Would you have logged, if it were not for that scenario? I think you will answer your own questions My first time was a panic filled state in which my group of 3 had to fight off 5 armed guys. We came out on top but for the next hour I was a nervous wreck scouting out, in hope that they never come back. It made it that much more intense and emotions were rife. Not accusing you of combat logging Kedde, You just have to find your own moral grounds and stick with them :) Only you can decide, as you have to live with your decisions. Hope this helps mate, and beans for surviving :beans:

Why co-operate if you're gonna get shot anyways?

If I come across someone who looks a bit new, or running around with melee weapons out, I stay hidden and ask for co-operation and drop all weapons etc Funnily enough majority have complied, as I guess the element of surprise got them. Everyone has walked away with some pipsi or nuca cola and bag of rice. I make them go on their merry way and keep overwatch for unsuspecting bandits until they vanish. Next time, try staying hidden and announce yourself, tone in your voice is key for this. Ask them to drop and see what happens. Even if you don't have a weapon! You have the advantage. I try and make each life count, it is worthless if I die. So comply I will, even if that means I survive with my underwear and no food, I still win in my eyes. It is far too easy just to write a character off when things are looking grim. It is always a certain death when faced with a veteran player, to whom you do not comply with. Go on and try to run while muttering a few words, you only make your own situation worse... The skill of some players in this game is incredible. Anywho, we all play differently so no right or wrong way to go about things.

    Am i the only one?

Bad Internet for me. However I frequent the experimental to try out the new features.
  6. Do I believe in h4xx0rs? Yes. Do I think we are inundated with them? No Reading up on hacks in these forums is quite sad. There are some stories I do believe but majority are not hacks, but rather exploiting bugs or bad internet. I feel like I am reading the boy who cried wolf. Peter yelled out the wolf was coming one too many times. Unfortunately there is too many Peters here and the majority just don't believe it. Not to say I don't believe you op, threads like this just get tiring. We know hacks are around, and in the minority. BI, VAC and BE are working on this. It shouldn't matter as we are testing in this early stage, just think of it as weeding the garden. The time we can play DayZ in its fullest the weeds would have been taken care of and the flowers will be able to flourish :D Too anyone else, if you see a h4xx0r, change server or take a break. The village folk here don't want peter spouting his thoughts. We know wolves are around.
  7. sorry - wrong thread. Silly me

    Recommend Settings For DayZ

It will be hard as we all have different rigs, so there is no "magic" setting to suddenly pull 100 fps for everyone. I would suggest using msi afterburner or Fraps to monitor your fps in-game. Have a play with settings until you "find" your sweet spot. I will also note - do not just try in one area, try a lot of different areas etc Wilderness, Coast, Cities etc What works in one area might not apply to another. As others have noted, the big cities seems the most demanding so maybe start there. Don't just stand still either after making a setting change, the full effect can be hard to monitor. Look around, run around and keep an eye on your fps.

    Experimental Zombie AI 35.115791

I am liking what I have played of the experimental so far, it brings out the panic when put in a corner. I came across a fresh spawn earlier, who seemed friendly enough so I gave him the last of my beans and a pipsi as I was energized. There were a few zombies around so I offered my axe to defend himself. As he picked up my axe from the ground he got swarmed by 2 zombies and by the looks he did not know he couldn't swing if it were not raised. I yelled out to him to raise the axe before he got swiped. I immediately see blood pouring from his body, he proceeded to crouch and then bandage. "shit" "shit" "shit" I need to help. I shot off 2 rounds and dispatched the zeds, when another 4 come out of nowhere. I let another round off when I get hit and my legs break, more zombies come. I panic as I watch the freshspawn get pummelled. I try and make a crawl for it but only got 3 meters before my screen went black. I felt really bad for the freshie and for my bad decisions, but loving the update and the excitement and panic it brings. I think you will find that campers are going to have a tougher time :D
  10. Too many points to reply to... This just isn't the game for you OP no need to spray personal opinions and bad experiences as facts. Bad Investment, right? My $30 has never seen so much in return. :emptycan: :emptycan: :emptycan: :emptycan:

Post your PC specs, in game settings and FPS here

My pc specs are in my sig, A lot of experimentation here, but this works for me best. Current settings FOV Nearly all the way to the left (it is on the left of the F) If need extra awareness dbl tap - key 1080p (100%) V-Sync - Off Texture - Memory Auto - Filtering Very High - Detail Very High Quality - Object Very High - Terrain Very High - Clouds Very High - Shadows Very High Rendering - AA Off - ATOC Off - FXAA Off - HDR Very Low ( ShadowPlay will not work for me if I set this to low) - AO Off - PP Very Low no launch parameters. Config is default besides Gpumaxframes ahead,=1 I spend majority up of my time up north and rarely head south. I hover 60-120 fps but average is hard to pinpoint due to a lot of variance. Looking at sky it rockets up 200+ :D In average I would say 60-80 fps anywhere outside big cities. Last night waking up on the coast I found myself in Elektro...It has been awhile for me. I noticed it dropped to around 40. Note: recently changed my object detail to Very High. Before it was very low and and my fps did not actually improve, it just became more stable and not dropping below 58ish fps in the cities. It came with a trade off, too much popping textures like buildings and trees. I can deal with the more erratic fps variance as I find it much easier to scout and spot things in the distance. I also disabled cpu core parking, which gave me a steadier fps too. In past the -winxp kept my fps steadier too but causes problems elsewhere for me. P.S. Yeah I believe that guy about his fps. He clocked his 4670k to 4.7ghz (wow that is good) and disabled all the heavy hitting settings. He is also not running native resolution by the looks - 1400 x 900? When my cpu was stock I couldn't hit what I am hitting now. Dropping res down to that 1400 x 900 made my fps go up insanely, too bad it looked like utter doggy doo
  13. I personally don't think we should have a death animation. My team got into out first fire fight the other night and if an animation was played, it would have detracted from the whole experience. The fight lasted just over 2 hours and we nearly got wiped because of a player who was unconscious on a roof underneath me. He came to and continued to suppress our group without us knowing! We had no idea where this new bullets were coming from and ended up climbing the ladder to the roof I was on. Gave me a right old scare. Just remember to double tap, you should be golden :D

    Being killed,with no explanation ?

Scott, We have given our insights as to what happened, no need to shout about it...You said that you play cautiously and never run in open fields, yet in your first post you said you were in an open field. 1+1=2 isn't it? It sounds like your mad and have spent 50 hours a week, all month on dayz. That is a lot of game time in a short period. Maybe a breather from the game might help you relax? There is no need to jump up and down. We are all here to discuss and help. You should have noticed by now that the dayz community is a crazy one, but we all have good intentions. We are all passionate about this game and that is what brings this community together. Like I said in my first post, this is alpha things are not supposed to be smooth or bugs ironed out. We have a base foundation for a dare I call it a...game...but we are not supposed to be playing it rather test it. What you say...that is right testing is the goal at this stage not trying to gear up and survive for 100 dayz. I re-read your first post...your were shot in the field got your leg broken and then got finished. At the military base, you were kos. Edge of the map...well unlucky Scotty. Please re-read some of these peoples posts carefully there is information to be had, from both sides. I suggest if you find some bugs, try and recreate it several times then go over to the bug reporting section in this forum and....report said bug...(UPDATE) - Guess what I was at a military airfield in the wee hours of this morning, 1 other person on and I actually died with black screen last night, no sudden warning. ... Bug?.... See I recreated that scenario for you so we can wipe this bug off! Things will grow as the game progresses, bugs will be squashed and before you know you will be thinking back about the bugs and how you miss them :D

    1pp Sound issues

It is something your end Deepfryer. As you stated these are new, and you have tested them on something else. I think it may be a loose connection and not all the way in or your 3.5mm input is dodgy on your motherboard or pc case? By any chance have you got another 3.5mm input on the front or back or your pc? I would try that next and report back.

    About combat logging.

Hi Brazorf, I won't answer your first 3 questions because they have been answered already but to your last question. I play as a lone wolf and have never logged in all my hours. Recently I teamed up with 2 friends and last night was my first ever gunfight in dayz and it was an amazing experience. Berezino - 5 fully armed guys took to holding up 2 fresh spawns. Our team of 3 had the advantage as we were hidden up off the ground, so we decided to do something about it. What ensued was a drawn out 2 hour long gun fight and a roller coaster of emotions. I actually thought after 30 mins that they had logged as things got quiet for awhile, but no dice the fight continued. I have been shot at, held up etc and the emotions were there but this was on another level and would never had experienced it if either side logged. In 200+ hours, this is by far my favourite experience so far. I was a wreck afterwards - shaky, sweaty and full of adrenaline. My point...You only cheapen your own experience by logging and the community despises this! Just don't do It, no matter the excuse.

    Being killed,with no explanation ?

Majority of what I have read on these forums have shouted out sniper 99% of the time. Most players are in hot spot areas when it happens - Elektro apartments across from the fire station, running in open fields etc. Maybe someone logged into Balota after you logged in/checked the player list? It is going to be hard to pinpoint, Alpha and all :D This has happened to me personally on numerous times and if it was a glitch....well I am glad because every time it has happened I have been careless and taught me to become stealthier :P Has anyone else had experiences with an empty server and instant death?

    Being killed,with no explanation ?

Hey Scott ^^^ above 3 posts seems spot on. You mentioned you were running in an open field...this is an open invite to get sniped, especially if you appear armed and may be perceived as hostile. It sounds tempting to make a dash and save yourself a bit of time by cutting through a field, but next time try heading into and around the trees and make the long way around. It will take you "longer" but in hindsight it is much quicker than finding yourself back on the coast. If you let your guard down in this game, it will penalize you sooner rather than later! Keep at it Scott, it can be very disheartening at the start when your still finding your way. Things will get better with more experience as you learn from your mistakes :) Good luck on your future adventures and don't give up

Well This Is Interesting, Another DayZ Spinoff?

Only $1500 and I can have my face in game, and spout my ideas to the devs. Only $5000 and I can have a trip to Ohio plus a free beta game. This is shaping up to be the biggest, baddass MOM fps ever!
  22. What slyguy said up a few posts. Head inland if you want guns with minimal contact. I was at stary yesterday where I found over 5 guns and no one around for miles

How to die fast? Wanna kill me?

Going from your picture you posted you weren't too far off from one...You may have survived, you may not. It is easy to say you wouldn't survive and then go kill yourself. It is another too push yourself when things look grim and motivation is low. This in my opinion is where the game shines.and lets the emotions out. Anything could happen. I am not trying to drag you down, you must be newish to this game? If you are, I plead try not to get into this mindset where suicide is a viable and only option. There is much more to this game than that. FYI-there is a medic section where you can request for medical assistance. They will come to your aid :)
