Thanks for your reply Mr Muffins, I am not trying to tickle a debate from you I am genuinely curious :) It seems you had an uneventful experience, but it makes me wonder why you seen no one...? The immersion bit is what has piked my interest. From what I read out of your post, you definitely changed your pace when jumping in HC. You stated you slowed down, played more cautiously. Your game play was affected without you knowing it! This however can change when running in a group. You came across 25 players, on how many servers? As it seems the 25+ on the one server where hiding from you! Where you by any chance running down main roads etc? I see this a lot more in HC servers, as people are not comfortable or get disorientated easy when heading into trees. I am a HC player, so I can back myself up with hard experience and attest that not everyone hangs around on the coast in HC playing Death Match. There is a lot of skilled players out there in HC, they are probably watching you without you knowing it. Easy to presume were all fighting in the cities. Mr Muffins, I know you said that immersion didn't change for you. I would like to challenge you to do a run-around on a full pop HC server by yourself. You may think it is quiet, due to the slower pace, you may get complacent and bored. You might start running instead of crouching, as nothing is "happening" but when them bullets rain down, or the sudden ambush that stops you mid-thought and trying to scope your surroundings without the 180* view. I guarantee the heart will rise, the sweat will pour and the panic will set in. :) Oh the immersion :D I might add, my shortly lived experience with dayz and survivors. The people who stick to first person are the ones most likely to gauge a situation and take precaution when approaching towns/survivors zombies. Most don't run in to or near a group of armed survivors expecting to be friends. They watch, they wait, they learn. If nothing good can be had from a situation, it is time to move on! There is a reason why we prefer hardcore. When you play it enough, you become invisible to most people, fairly.

Can you tell the direction which fire is coming from?
nuggit replied to Sebidee's topic in General Discussion
Hi Seribee I noticed your first person thread. It is harder in fpv to scope out where the attackers shot came from, but you can use this to your advantage. Yes, good headphones is a must. As others pointed out, gaming headphones are not necessarily the best for gaming. They usually are quite cheap to build, and market them real well. Compare in the shops mate first hand. My ears are different to yours and so on. Try a pair of Sony or Senheisers, at the same price point as turtle beach or similar. It is crazy when you find out the difference in quality. Although, the better your headphones, the better your sound card will be needed to drive them. My other point, try and focus on smoke clearing from the gun after a shot has rung out. This has helped me pick out the direction quicker than the unreliable sound of bullets. Good luck mate -
Immersion the same? Please Mr Muffins could you enlighten me, as to how you came to this conclusion :) I am a little confused by this. Yes majority of the HC servers are under-populated but there is still a few that are quite full. Try playing on the full ones mate, you will find it's not the same.

Been some good points and discussion here, thought I would share mine. I am a fpv guy in dayz. It brings another level to dayz that tpv cannot touch. The tension and fear of not knowing what is around the corner or behind the wall reinforces all of this. It also encourages me to slow down, take my time and assess every situation as I can't see everything! Now my new group are all tpv addicts and can't get enough of it. It isn't a biggie, I can adapt. We have 2 types of servers for this very reason! Now a lot of people dislike fpv as it feels claustrophobic to them. The number one complaint on these forums I have found, seems to be whilst being indoors. Navigating is hard, getting stuck in doorways due to weapon collision and changing fov on the fly. I have found a really good work around for this...it takes a little bit of time re-binding controls but it has made life a lot easier for me. For starters, I never run indoors, I walk only. This helps colliding into door frames and just general manoeuvrability inside. I don't run inside at home, so I don't do it in game! I have default fov in the options and it stays that way. No changing on the fly for extra zoom! For key bindings, it is down to personal preference but the default makes it hard for first person to maintain all controls that matter the most to be accessible instantly. etc Zooming in and out (not holding your breath but the actual zoom) the +/- buttons requires you to take a hand off either your keyboard or mouse. I un-bind the scroll wheel up/down (action menu), middle mouse button (accept action) also the tab (inventory), I also un-bind others but there not important really. bind zoom in toggle - mouse wheel up bind zoom out toggle - mouse wheel down bind inventory - middle mouse button bind Action menu - Tab bind zeroing up - ctrl+w bind zeroing down - ctrl+s bind Zoom in -dbl tap tab (for LRS scope when iron sight) bind zoom out - dbl tap ctrl (for LRS scope when iron sight) With these bindings, it has changed the way I play. It feels more natural to be able to back off the fov as quick as it is to zoom it in. I don't know a lot about others here, but playing in one fov all the time actually makes it hard for first person in dayz/arma. Tpv doesn't have this problem as you have more "situational awareness". Going from the amount of people I have met in-game on HC servers, the majority did not even know that +/- changed the fov! ^^ I am sure the vets know about using fov, and what it brings but there has been a massive influx of new players who are clueless to how arma and its controls work, just like myself! More to the point Sebidee to your question...I think the hardcore scene will become bigger as we progress throughout early-alpha onwards. The controls will become more fluid, animations will play nice, difficulty will rise tenfold. Third person will get a nerf I am sure, but to what extent? I don't know, only time will tell. Sorry for the long winded post :)

Hi Dchil I found my first 1911 last night. It was located at the Kamyshovo Police Station :) Never seen a pistol in the police station before that though tbh. It seems the pistols are a rarer chance to drop, as rifles always seem to be aplenty there from my experience. Happy hunting.

Health and blood regeneration after last patch
nuggit replied to brazorf's topic in General Discussion
I got smacked last night, when I was at a healthy status and full stomach. My newly acquired bandages where completely ruined, and it would not allow me to destroy my wool coat for some more! I lost a lot of blood trying to scout out some more. The time I had found a shirt to rip up, my screen was grey and blurry like waking up from a big night on the piss. I clearly was no longer healthy, but still had my energized and hydrated tabs. I consumed a full bag of rice, which then put me to a stuffed notifier. After 15 minutes or waiting and running, I drank as much as avatar would allow. I am now healing! Over the next 10 minutes I returned to full colour and the glorious healthy status. Tabs were at light green for me. 1 hour seems long, OP maybe you were literally a mouthful or two from water away from healing? Happens to me a lot. -
Welcome to DayZ Tbear :) You will realise quickly that the coast is one of, if not the most dangerous spot currently in Chernarus. It is usually rifled with griefers and the loot is always scarce. Survival chances magnify tenfold, when heading inland. I wish you many wonderful journeys throughout your stay in Chernarus, good luck!

A lot of good information from the users here Xeno! If your going to upgrade try looking at the new Haswell series for the cpu. They perform great from personal experience. No need for an i7. You more than likely won't benefit unless your multi-tasking, and all sorts. edit: a new mobo would be in order if you went this route. Google and youtube will help wonders here mate. It will tell you more, than what we can cram into a single post. You stated your wires were melted...Do you know what wires...? I am thinking, not everything inside is ruined mate? Rule 1: no drinks or food near computer. Ever Rule 2: Never leave a sibling unattended around your own personal belongings, it never bodes well. Ever. I feel for you Xeno

^^2 posts up - Kichilron ^^ good view on things! I completely agree. Beedubbs, there has been a lot of videos in the past. Dean has mentioned them chewing up a lot of time and only hindering things as everyone latches on to his every word. It turns into a he said she said debate and then Rocket having to chime in to give his view. Time gets lost quickly and productivity drops off. A simple devblog is all that is needed now, we have the devtracker, which is always full of good info. The extra information is already out there in various tweets and reddit posts. There is always plenty of streams/youtube videos with useful info and chats with Dean about future things in dayz. It is there if we choose to hunt for it. To some it may not feel like it, but it has come leaps and bounds from initial release (anyone remember no bodies after death?). Communication is getting better, whilst not exhausting the devteam. They are committed to making this game better and if that means less communication from videos, for more productive time spent. I am all for it. :)

No worries :) Been having a hard time myself as of late with experimental and ready info on what has changed/updated. I think it is because there has been no major changes, and just the back end getting tidied up in exp and how packets are getting sent via client->server. Hicks did state there would be no change log when this happens (can't find quote sorry). I agree 100% Loot&Live. Dev team stated survival is still the major aim for the month, and a lot of work still needs to be put in. I read that they now have a dedicated team to animals/hunting/zombie animations somewhere else. This is exciting

Hi LootandLive I happened to finally get on an experimental server ver 43 this morning after the update. Been trying for awhile now, I haven't had much luck. Good thing was in the hour I played, not one "session lost" :) Lag was a bit worse as to playing on UK servers, it had its moments when I couldn't do anything, but waiting 5 minutes allowed it to clear up every time. Unfortunately it happened a lot, in that hour session. I couldn't find patch notes either for exp. I think it might have some hot fixes in it, like the session lost etc? As the update was 70MB and another this morning of 25MB. It was - DayZ UK 0-1 (Experimental/Testing) (81.19.208.9:2302) Good luck mate

Experienced a lot more "session lost" issues, within the last hour or two (first play since update). The first server kept throwing back "session lost" after the first 15 minutes, it did vary though. Found one after that, which kept the session :) It was happening to my friend and I. My net is horrendous, his however is great. I think it "maybe" to do with the new server/client messages and how it is received now. While it was frustrating, it was most definitely playable. Other than that, everything feels/looks better than before for me. Fps has raised, character animations and stances feel and look smoother, the zombies are now rising, amongst a whole load of other things.
-
There is a little juggling involved now Hozzdutch. Run or fight? A good way to deal with them, would be to axe them up, or make a beeline and break line of sight. The longer you stick around letting rounds fly off, the more zombies you will attract. The chances now that you will run out of bullets and rags due to excessive wastage as the barrage will not decease, is much higher than ever with this latest patch.

I have heard Orlok stress this enough times! You will only thank yourself later heading his advice :) I spent my first 200 hours in amazement getting to know the terrain, landmarks and all things Chernarus! It was intense, gruelling and pulled out a bucket load of emotions from me as I had little to no idea where I was, or going to for that fact. Everything felt foreign, and nothing familiar. Heck I know most of my way around but I still get surprised when I get lost, and it still happens :) I was out of my comfort zone and always on edge. It made me pay more attention to my surroundings and the little things you would usually miss as your too busy running from A to B, become more noticeable. You learn to slow down and become patient, I learned very quickly from the start, that if I were mauled by zombies or a panic round would send me into the distance running frantically. I would lose my bearings very quickly and end up in a worse predicament than before.

Hi Sercaneryaz Dayz struggles on the best of rigs at times. You will find there is no magic setting. Best bet would be to grab msi afterburner or the free fraps to monitor your fps. Fire up the game and monitor your fps while changing your settings one at a time. It is time consuming to try out every setting, but it will help determine your bottleneck and what settings suit your rig the best. Everyone runs different rigs, which means we all run different settings. What may perform and look good for me, may be a landslide for you. I recommend taking a look at this thread, some valuable information to be had there too, which may help your cause. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/ I have also read object detail is responsible for rendering people in the distance, and the network bubble may also play a role in this? I cannot confirm this, but maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in? Best of luck mate :)

The most important thing in overclocking... research, research and some more research. It will do you more harm then good not heading this advice. It is easy to tinker and change settings, but no basic grasp and understanding, can end you up with worse performance and possibly a burnt out rig. (especially not doing research to find out you need adequate cooling) It is quite time consuming, when evaluating the performance with every tweak and will require your utmost attention when stressing your over clock. It all sounds scary to the uninformed but research, trial and error prove this wrong! Good luck Jonno :)

Hi Muspel there is a few things you can do that might help with your fps. Try looking here :) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/ Also try this http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=216291078 Best of luck mate.

Missed one! Audio cues would be my preference :)

-Some suggestions to improve game play- I will try and be polite as possible, as many posts here have stated why majority of your suggestions do not belong in game. The top half of your thread is clearly out of touch with the dayz concept, and what it is renowned for. Your suggestions, as thoughtful as they are will not improve game play one bit, but rather hinder it, dramatically. Same goes with a couple of suggestions in the not important parts ie stats, buffs and red rings for bandits. If you are finding it hard now, it is only going to get harder as we further along throughout the development process. Example, the cross hair. That will be a thing of the past, clean water from lakes, forget about it! I am sorry I don't agree, I usually wouldn't post and just ignore a thread like this. However you are new to the game and forums so I think you will be getting some major hate from this, so keep your chin up and take it with a grain of salt :) It is what makes dayz unique, embrace it for what it is and stick to it mate! -Welcome to DayZ-

Why getting killed is a good thing...kinda
nuggit replied to Dashisbest's topic in General Discussion
That is why I enjoy reading threads like yours, and the conversations that follows :) Too many players want to change kos because their not learning from their own mistakes, and will not take responsibility for their own actions. Which a lot of people, like yourself are trying to convey to the wider community. Majority do not want to hear their bad at something though, and It's just easier to point the finger the other way. Which is why so many people get all antsy on this topic. If one person takes something positive from your thread, and makes them re-evaluate. I think you have done your job here Dash! -
Why getting killed is a good thing...kinda
nuggit replied to Dashisbest's topic in General Discussion
That is probably because most of the threads are getting merged/locked as there is an abundance of them. Boneboys summed this up perfectly in another thread. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=KOS+dayz+dayz+forum+site%3Aforums.dayzgame.com# -
I found the video somewhat funny. Not at OP whining though. Only because of my experience in the experimental and fighting 5 zombies with a crowbar. It became...tedious at best and I remember how frustrated I was getting because my hits were never connecting. The little words popping up, just reminded me of my cursing :) I am sure animations is on the cards and will get further looked at. We are only just about to hit the third month of pre-alpha, we have one heck of a ride to go :) tries to steer topic back on track...

Good work mate. Don't worry about the communication side of things, we still get our info one way or another :)

There will still be choices Deebz, always! Nothing will change in that respect. Killing on sight will still be rampant. I just think it makes a lot more sense to start off in a lot worse condition than we currently do. It will not discourage kos any more or any less. I would prefer my first 4 hours as a real struggle, trying to get healthy and the basics. As I would know, if I don't, I would have no chance to try and gear up as death is imminent without the basics, quickly. As of know, healthy status is the first thing I do and it literally takes me no time at all to do. It should be a struggle The people who want to kos, will still do so. They are just going to find it much harder to continue shooting for longer periods without attending the basic needs. I am positive this is the direction Dean and co will go in as the development gets further in. The basics are already there.

Brilliant kos, This idea sounds really intriguing. I for one am all for it. Might be a good idea to put this suggestion over in reddit where the devs frequent a lot more. In true kos style - :D I have a feeling someone is going to be inundated with beans :D
