I am stubborn. Games never allow me to have complete freedom and do as I wish, interact with what or whom I want to. This has allowed me to fall off from games in the last 8+years and cannot retain my attention for long. I pretty much stopped playing games ( come from consoles and Apple) Enter DayZ...My work mates came to work one morning telling me about some epic stories from a new game/mod they tried. I had to see what all the fuss was about as I had 0% experience when It came to online gaming, and it sounded like it was my cup of tea! Went out after work to buy this ArmA game so I could try the mod out. Little did I know I needed windows.... my reaction was priceless as I couldn't boot camp, as I had a SD card stuck in my CD-slot. FYI I was pissed trying to send my sister some pics lol, got the wrong slot....insert silly comments here... :D I ended up just researching and waiting to build a gaming pc. I had waited so long to play the mod now I may as well wait for the SA to arrive. I built my first pc about 4 or so months ago and got introduced to steam, bought some games and ......didn't play for too long! Jumped back to forums and videos drooling eagerly for SA to try. Long story short I bought DayZ Alpha on release, still playing with 85+ hours and I have had the most emotional ride I have ever encountered from a bunch of pixels ever. This is why I play

Update (16/1): Player Proximity DeSync Issue (Solutions/Workarounds!)
nuggit replied to scottishrebel's topic in Troubleshooting
Unsure if the last patch affects me more, but desync over the last week or so has become noticeably worse. I play on fps only with BE enabled servers. Tried what a few people suggested here with no luck. I blame my end, as I have to tether off my phone for internet (I know its bad haha - speeds of up to 400kb mostly!) Literally upgraded my internet yesterday, as I have bad reception here. Telstra was a natural choice....Low and behold been dayz'ing all morning and I have not encountered one sign of a red/yellow chain, ping is under 50 and no RB/desync whatsoever. No more dropouts on reception either. Probably not going to help anyone, just thought it was interesting with everyone's speculation on this matter -
760 owner here, everything runs smooth as can be for an alpha. What cpu are you running? Arma engines don't just rely on gpu like most games

As KOS said, use ya shirt! You can also find a first-aid kit which should contain some sterile bandages too.

I never played the mod, I rarely play games and I never played on-line before. However I just clocked over 70 hours of game play (this is a first for me) Every hour of it has brought me something new and exciting I have never gotten from a game before. Never had more fun in my life on a game, bugs and all and I am only just getting started! Last I checked, I was having fun :)

Steam games or retail games? I just moved my entire steam games library across to my new ssd. It is quite easy and much quicker to do than if you had to re-download them, especially if you have a bad internet connection like me. Just remember to always make a backup just in case. go to you steam folder - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam delete everything inside this folder except your steam.exe file and your steam apps folder. When you copy this to your new hdd and launch steam, it will automatically re-download the new files to run steam and all your old games will be intact :) Transferring retail games is a little trickier. It involves playing around with your registry keys. Not sure on the legal side of things here so I would suggest google. As I said earlier in post, remember to backup backup backup, it is forgotten too much!

Hi fellow forumers, A lot of people are having trouble using -winxp as a launch parameter as a fix for shadowplay. Majority of the time my game would not load and shadowplay still not working. I have now also found a lot of user settings in control panel affect shadowplay. By default GE shadowplay records to a folder called "shadowplay". I have found success with re-naming the default save folder to a new one or changing the folder to a new location. Whatever you do, do not label your new folder "shadowplay" if you change your location as the problem will persist. example from C:/MyDocuments/shadowplay to C:/MyDocuments/whateveryouwanttocallyourfolderexceptshadowplay or from C:/MyDocuments/shadowplay to C:/NewLocation/whateveryouwanttocallyourfolderexceptshadowplay Make sure to point GE shadowplay to your newly named folder/location. EDIT. I just went playing with Nvidia control panel settings and just broke my shadowplay LOL This just led me to another fix. If you changed some settings in control panel more than likely shadowplay is not working. Go to your Nvidia control panel and find Display - change resolution to native - Adjust desktop colour setting to other applications change colour settings - Adjust desktop size and position to Aspect Ratio Hope this helps someone like it did for me :) Happy gaming/recording

No worries. Sometimes there might be a bit of lag either client or sever side. Just got off from playing for a few hours and I was lagging and doors were literally taking 5+seconds before opening.

It can be a little tricky trying to get the icon to appear, scroll and then click to open a door! Try using your F key when the icon shows up instead of the scroll wheel for opening doors and the likes. Much easier and quicker.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
nuggit replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Another first time poster, long time stalker  Sorry was trying to keep it short, didn't work. I play fpv only, and could argue about the flaws of 3pv all day all night all year all life. I strongly believe it does not belong in a unique stand-alone game that DayZ is shaping up to be. The mod is a different story completely, it is just that a mod. No matter what I think or say, I do believe Mr Rocket wants to keep 3pv in his game and change the way it works. As much as I hate to say it, this whole debate shouldn't even exist the answer is a no brainer considering what needs to be done to make this fair. I will suck it up as I said it's his game and am here for the ride. I will still play it the way I do when it's released. Heck I just built my first gaming pc just for this game  I tried out 3pv recently to see how it played out... might help add something to this discussion, may as well considering the damn 3rd viewpoint is staying. Sigh, I could ramble on what so many people have tried to fight for, ahhhh better not ... Thought I would be constructive considering it's my first post ... :D There has been a lot of suggestion on restricting the camera to 1pv whilst prone, tightening the view point to the shoulder and some other likes. I still am unsure if Rocket and team will ever get this to work without damaging some aspect of fairness of game play between the two styles, magnitude of feelings one experiences within this game, breath taking immersion, enjoy-ability and keeping to what DayZ is really all about. Just a thought that might help in achieving this after my quick stint? If you opt in for the uh... "more situational awareness" approach No switching into first person at all strictly, helps with breaking the immersion (whats left of it)! Would be weird to play in 1pv and zoom out to 3vp during combat. Minimize the Field Of View severely to zoom in the camera to left or right of avatar waist/shoulder. Help with fairness. Disable Zoom and Free Look you should not be able to see behind you, too many advantages in combat/buildings whilst in 3pv against 1pv. I know it might come across as nerfing too much but if you sit back and think about it, it makes more sense as a compromise between enjoy-ability while maintaining the immersion. You can still still see your pretty avatar running around while retaining what DayZ is without actual compromise of unfair play. I can't see any issues programming side, It should be easier then modding the crap trying to do all sorts of crazy things with the camera! After playing Last Of Us, I would have walked away feeling disconnected from Joel and Ellie if I had been zooming into first person every time I shot or bricked a zombie. I truly hope that Rocket takes this matter seriously. It once was a social experiment when it was a mod in a limited engine for this design. It is no longer a mod, decisions need to be made. Just my opinion from down under :D Nuggit
