  1. Yes, we won't see the SA before monday though.
  2. I thought about it and I feel kind of ashamed of myself that I didn't do this before. I want to thank rocket and all the people that made this game happening. The most of us are probably long expirienced gamer. You can call us "hardcore"-gamer, but no matter what we are, I think we will all agree that we love DayZ as it was and as it will be. Dean is one of the human beings that prevented me from giving up my hobby. In the past year the industry turned into a pure money cow. The games as I remembered do not exists anymore. The gameplay in the vast majority of games is made purely for casual gamers. Everything has to be simple and easy to understand. A challenge? Frustration? All these aspects are removed to increase the quantity of sales. The player has to feel good, he has to be "entertained" as much as possible. What is missing for me is the real reward. I want to do something for what I get. I want to sit down and think about it. Does it matter if I do something wrong? If no, the game is no challenge. I just feel old, where are the times when you had to play a game for dozens of hours to even remotely compete with expirienced players? Today, I can buy Battlefield or Call of Duty and the first match I am capable of being the best player. The learning curve is just so high that even within 2 hours I can equire the knowledge and skill I need to to win against a veteran. It's not just the fps-genre, but also rpgs, racing games and probably everything else there is. The games just get easier. No, I go further. The games lose their main aspects. These days the games are not about the gameplay, but about graphics and fascinating moments. Everyone tries to copy the gameplay from successful games to reach the financial goal not to actually create a good game. Now, I don't say that it is wrong and I don't say that people shouldn't enjoy it. But I am one of the unlucky ones who does not enjoy it. I don't like games without challenge. Battlefield, Call of Duty, Skyrim and everything else are games I play for just a few hours. I almost feel like an old man, who was forgotten a long time ago. When I see games like Dark Souls or DayZ, I have hope. But I don't want to talk about what others do wrong, I want to talk about what you, Dean Hall, did right. I will speak directly to you Dean, knowingly that it sounds weird to read it from a stranger and knowing that you probably will never read it. You have better things to do and I don't mind that. (if you will read it though, it would be one of the highest honours I had in my life) I think you have to know what you did. You have to know what you have accomplished. I am pretty sure you are an idealist Dean. Otherwise you wouldn't have risked your life to climb the highest mountain on the planet. I am an idealist too, and this is why I appreciate what you did so much. You, Dean, brought joy to millions of people. Now, I know the following might sound really dramatic, but you actually changed the life of a huge amount of people. Some may say that it was not like you cured cancer or something, but I don't like to compare accomplishments that are beyong the reach of 99% human population with each other. No matter what others may say, you made many people very lucky. Let us ask ourself, why do we even live in this world? For what? We are not struggling to survive, we have food, shelter and everything else. We are the microbic fraction of living beings that can live without constant fear. So what do we do with ourselfs? I think, most people will say "Enjoy life". No matter if it is raising a family, being the best in something, having a good job or going out with friends and get drunk. Surely there are people who call us freaks, because we have a hobby that is kind of different. A virtuall reality which we enjoy. But in the end, we just live such a surprisingly short time. In some years we will cry about all this, the time when we were young and enjoyed life. Indeed, we should enjoy every single second, because when we look death in the face, a single second will be worth everything. Now, why do I tell you that? What has all this to do with you? Well, you Dean, you had an idea. You brought that idea to life and made a game that is played by millions. I spent a huge amount of time with DayZ. Hundreds of hours. Hundreds of hours with fear, joy and accomplishments. All the expiriences I made, almost every single one has triggered emotions that are comparable to a reallife situation. So intense and unique. I interact with other players as if they were my real enemies or my real friends. And all this, I just can't pay it off. The time I spent with this game, it is more worth than I could ever pay you. Because joy is always more worth than money, and I had so much joy with this game, that compared to other games, I would have to give you more than I will ever earn. Again, it sounds like I have "no life", but without DayZ something in my life would be missing. The expiriences I made, not all of them, but some will probably stick in my mind forever. And all of this because of you Dean, because you had this idea. Now some may say that anyone else could have had this idea and that at some point in the future someone would have. But, what would have happened to the game if it was not you? Maybe it would have turned out like WarZ from the beginning, no success ever... we don't know it and it doesn't matter. Because you were the one who actually did it. And I hope that you, as an idealist, will appreciate my thanks. It is all I can give you besides the money I will spent for the game and the time I spent for writing this comment. Time is more worth than any materialistic thing. And with your game I had many hours that were just awesome. I know it is not just me, because so many people play the game for such a long time. Maybe they don't realise it, but even if you just brought 1 hour of joy to every single player, even then you accomplished more than almost every other human on earth will ever do. Surely, there are many people who cry about this and that. Who want that you make that game better or release it fast. And they don't do it because they hate the game, it is actually the other way around. They critizes, they are unpatient and they cry about everything because they love it. Because they care about this game. It is so important to them that they spend time to register here and write about it. Not many other games are capable of doing this. But, why are you the one who deserves a "thank you?". Well, actually everyone who brings joy to my life deserves it. My friends, my family, even the actors in a movie. Every developer of every game I played and enjoyed. But you Dean, you are the only one who talks to us. You are the only one who argues with his community. Something that many other developers are just afraid of. Something that many other developers don't even care about. You brought me a good time and I thank you for this Dean. In the end, I know that you were one of the humans that brought joy to my life. Even if you are not the only one, I am sorry that I cannot repay it to you. Dean, you didn't just "have an idea". Because of you millions of people felt a certain amount of time joy and this is more worth than any money on earth. You truely accomplished something in your life! So like I said, my thanks is everything I can give you. And I encourage everyone to do the same, if you feel like me. It is the least you can do for someone like Dean Rocket Hall. Make him feel like a king. (not sure if this is the right forum section for this, but it is generally about DayZ)
  3. Wayze

    Thank you Dean Hall!

rocket: Wouldn't you rather the people developing your game were excited about it? What's the best part about having exciting news? How great does it feel to tell someone who you solve something you've been working long hours on? Doing these things has a great impact on morale, and it is a powerful motivator because you see instant positive feedback from people about your work. In the 'old days' it could be months or years before someone would see your work, and you'd rarely ever come in contact with it. See how important morale is for development? A simple thank you can help ALOT if it comes from the right people. Sure me alone, I won't have any significant impact but if half the forum does I think Dean could notice and it would surely help him. But it looks like you all just don't care and your ego is just too big to say thank you Dean. Well maybe it's not, but that is how it looks to me.
  4. twitch.tv/rocket2guns past broadcast 1:58:00 just watch it... so obvious. So what is going to happen is that tomorrow some guys will come and talk about the release and the current state of the game. What they have to change to be allowed to make it public. They will do further tests on the current build and if it runs ok they will lock it down. They have no buggs found yet which is a very good sign (indicates that there are no gamebreaking buggs). You can see that they are very optimistic about it as they are activating all the servers and that Dean is repeatadly talking about not buying the alpha if not certain about it (that is what you usually do right before you sell an unfinished product. Last but not least when Dean was asked about the next stream he just said yes, not going into further detail because he thinks no streams will be needed. Hicks is doing the exact oppisite to cover the almost obvious mistake made by Dean before. Now be optimistic or pessimistic, if you look at it from a realistic point of few is very possible that the release is imminent.
  5. Noticed how often Dea repeated saying that nobody should buy the alpha if not absolutly sure about buying a unfinished game?
  6. When he was asked what is holding off release in terms of top priority buggs he didn't know what to say, now I don't want to hype anyone but.... IMMINENT RELEASE CONFIRMEND!!!!!!!
  7. DID HE JUST SAY PEOPLE GET BORED!?!??????!!!!! Wow this girl just saved my day...
  8. HE IS PLAYING MY NIGHT IS SAVED!!!!!!!!!
  9. No you are wrong. It was F11!!111oneone
  10. Dean said he mad screens forr steam today!
  11. Btw, there has to be a trainstation with trains in the SA!
  12. Look at it why would they start servers days before release? It all costs money...
  13. But by Arma Engine defintion they are. ^^ And I am also concerned about a good game expirience, which is why I want a character value system. Why do you want a skill system?
  14. Since when do MMORPGs have permadeath? Oh wait, the once which have actually do have skills and PVP.
  15. There is a reason why there is so much deathmatching in the game (KOS is normal and good for the game, nothing to do with deathmatching, as previously said by me). That is because the game has no skill system. Simple as that. And yes people give a f*ck. You don't want to know the feeling when I lost my first good gear in the game. Sadly this feeling goes away after you have seen this weapon a hundred of times. I have achieved everything I can in DayZ. Survival is not the point of the game, just a useless feature... Well, but what if my opinion is that the observable perception of the others is just no other opinion but infact just like deathmatching a really sporadic point of perspective, not knowing it because their uncoinsciousness turning the mindless cogitations so as if they were thinking that they are doing what they actually don't want, but they still think that the subjective perception, which was progressed by their uncoinsciousness is actually another anomal similiarity to the thinking they actually would have had if they were deathmatching. Chocolate is brown but also black, white and green. That means simply that our perception of reality is an absolutly subjective and instable product of expirience, sense and the objective existence of reality. By far, you are right and wrong at the same time, as you are the person who is conducting the visual and communicative substantiality of the consciousness of all our minds together in this conceptionally epitome of acrimony. Just a thought... Have a good day, sir. No harm intended.
  16. And then what? I think you don't realise that the devs are already implementing such a system. And like I said (again and again and again) if loot is your primarily value, why even bother? Let's go further and ask ourselfs a few things. Why do I survive? Because I don't want to lose my gear. -> Why do I not want to lose my gear? Because I searched for it a long time. -> And why did I search for the loot? Because I need the loot to kill others/Because there is nothing better to do but searching for loot. -> So what do I need the loot for? Well, I need the loot to kill players, to kill zombies and to have some fun. Maybe to survive... -> To survive? But why would I survive if the loot is why I don't want to lose? Well, I search loot to not to, to not lose my loot, to be able to have fun and kill other players. In the end it doesn't matter if you are a bandit or a survivor. You carry loot, you survive just because you want to kill other beings. Doesn't matter if it is for selfdefense or hunting some zeds, maybe even players. The goal in the end is always killing, having some fun. Simple, not a bad concept, but a huge potential is just wasted. Now this: I survived 200 hours, a group of bandits is surrounding me, I saw these guys robbing others on youtube, they usually let them alive... they tell me to drop my weapon, what do I do? I'll try to kill them, because my life as itself is worth nothing, the only thing of value is my gear. There is nothing more important than that. Now I ask you, is this what is survival game should be about? About the loot? About the things that normally are supposed to help you to survive? In DayZ not the life itself is of value, but the instruments that you would use to survive in real life. But what if a character is actually of value? Let's ask ourself: Why do I survive? Because I don't want to lose my character. -> Why do I not want to lose my character? Because it took me a long time to develope all the skills I equired. -> Would you risk your character to try to get an M4? Why would I do that? I have a character to care for, the M4 would surely help me with this task, but if it is too risky it's not worth the effort. I can find another M4, it's not like it takes me 200 hours. Now we have a player that would do everything to survive. His heartbeat would go higher than ever before if a bandit group surrounds him. The longer he survived, the more intense the expirience gets. He will literally piss himself if he has a 100h+ character that is surrounded by a bandit group. The weapon he carries? F*ck that, the bandits can have it. Why would he even care for the weapon? It's a loss, but the loss of the character would hurt way more. His hands would shake and it would be probably the most intense gaming expirience he ever had in his life. Yes, I think DayZ is exactly about that. This is the core of the game and I hope people will understand, because if not we will have to wait for another game that does that. That is capable of making a player cry of frustration. That is capable of making the player feeling as lucky as having survived a real car crash. That is capable of causing the most intense fear in gaming history. DayZ will be a game for adrenaline junkies. And implementing such a system is a really simple task. It just takes one programmer, doing it by himself within a week or less he is finished. I don't care if it is in the vanilla game, but please implement something like a hardcore mode.
  17. The concept of home servers doesn't work. If there is loot that is just on 2 of 1000 servers, just 2 servers and that means just as many players that have characters on these servers, are able to obtain it. If someone obtains it and he is on a low pop server t he can hold this loot forever because noones ever coming to him and he is not able to go to anyone. The other thing is that weapons and ammo are way rarer. It doesn't work quite well if there is a group of people on a server who dominate everything because no one has firearms and ammo just them. And the concept of an economy wouldn't work either. Ever server would have to have its own economy and that does not work out well, if you ask me.
  18. Makes no sense. ^^ Why do we even talk about a "skillsystem"? To improve character value. There is no character value if there are some stupid, annoying minigames which are not even designed for the engine and absolutly break immersion (because they are badly implemented).
  19. :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: :bandit: "-If more you bandage (reload, whatever) better you are at bandaging, it leads to grinding. simple as that - repetition is grinding." DayZ has an health system, bandages are rare, the more you hurt yourself, the harder it gets to rest, the time you need for healing up is WAY longer than before. No grinding if you implement it right. "-repetition on the other hand rarely means improvement - many times you may repeat an action gazillion times and you will not improve unless someone shows you how it's done properly/what you are doing wrong. So there would have to be teachers who would teach - or we have to include inteligence etc. you see where this is leading?" Who cares about what repetition means. It's a game. People have learned to survive on islands alone by themselfs. There is no teacher needed if you try hard. "-You all assume it would decrease KOS/deathmaching, but in reallity all these skill improvements only aid KOS/deathmach. faster reload is not nearly as important as it is against other players." Then take faster reloading out. What you don't see is that deathmatcher (people who just play to kill other people), won't enjoy the game because they never improve. How long does a deathmatcher live? 2-4 hours? Well, he won't get far. In DayZ Mod you simply have to go deathmatch because there is nothing else to do. Surviving is just useless. You don't improve yourself atall. No matter if it is 200 hours or just 1, your character stays the same. If you add value to the game, characters who have survived 3 hours will be valuable. No one wants to do it again so he plays carefully. He has a goal, his goal is to keep the character alive. Never said it would reduce KOS, but KOS has NOTHING TO DO WITH DEATHMATCHING. But you are right, we all assume. The alpha is there for testing it. If it doesn't work just scratch it. But why not trying, just because you think it couldn't work? "-it is not (IMO) in the spirit of the game - it was said many times that the game is supposed to teach real life knowledge and use real life knowledge." What is the reason for that? And do you really think knowledge is everything? Do you think just by watching Bear Grylls surviving in the woods you are capable of building the perfect fire and perfect traps?
  20. Tap R to reload fast! Increases chance to let the magazine slip your fingers and fall on the ground! The better your reload skill is the less the chance that you fail! I am such a genius.
  21. The only reason for not liking this concept is being a pure deathmatcher who doesn't care about survival at all.
