A question just came to my mind when I saw the female character model in this video: http://www.gamestar.de/videos/gamescom-2012,84/dayz,71592.html Not sure if it is necessary, but will there be a special animation-set for the female model? Because it looks kind of weird how she is standing. I know this is not something that would be important for the alpha, but seeing the difference between man and female in the animation would be pretty cool later on. And I got another question regarding to the character system. Do you choose a character or is it random? And how many character models do you plan in total? -

Are you trying to tell me that you don't use the 3rd person view when looking around a corner? Sorry, but that is a part of the combat, actually it is the most important part of combat. -
Oh man, I miss that time. Once I had a real good companion, we played on an UK server. I found him on the top of the hospital in electro. He had a hero skin, and we were just camping on the hospital. More and more people joined us, it was really very cool. We just defended the hospital roof, we were like 7 people in electro. Some went down to loot stuff. And when it got dark I was killed, but I remembered the name of the guy I played with. It was Tobori I think (and tobori if you read this you got to PM me man!), the next day I played on the same server and he was online too, so I asked him if he wants to team up. I cannot recall how it exactly was, but we teamed up. Actually at some point I asked him where he was from, he was actually from germany like me. So we were talking english the whole time, not knowing that we could talk german. From that moment it was really cool. He had a headset, but I had none, anyway we really played the whole day. Every evening from 20 until like 3AM we played dayz. And I really regret it, but we never asked each other for a skype ID or something. We just played on the same server every single time. He showed me his secret place where he hid his car everytime. He told me nobody ever found his car over there. So we played and played... and we found a new car. That car was mine now, he had his UAZ I think. Mine was a crappy one, you know these small ones which drive 10km/h on grass. But anyway, so we were playing and I can tell you this guy was the pure good. He was like NEVER shooting somebody. He always told me he worked so hard for his hero suit that it wouldn't be worth it to lose it just for killing someone. He was alway talking to the people, and mostly it worked out. A couple of times we died but it was cool. So one day we took a went north to one of the factories (not the really big ones, I mean the one with different floors and many, many wheels and stuff, with the fireplace in it) in middle of nowhere. We were going up to a hill, and I just had an enfield. We saw a car down there. It was dark btw and he told me he would go down there to loot the car. I told him I would shoot if something would happen. So I was like 700m away from him, he was like a little dot. And I spotted a sniper with my binoculars. He had ghilliesuit and DMR I think, not sure. He was on one of the top floors. My friend tobori got in the car and drove away, the guy on the factory however took shoots on him. I don't really know how I managed, but I killed the guy with my enfield. I hardly saw him but it was a good shoot, I am really proud of myself as you can see xD But anyway, I killed him and there was another guy. I did not shoot at him because tobori was out of danger, or I had no ammo I don't know. So he drove up the hill to me and I told he me should get the hell out of here. But you won't believe it he was like "No man, we got to bring the car back, these guys did not harm us". And, you know if I was alone I would have just drove away, but tobori was an honest man and we seriously drove back. He told the one who was there that he is friendly and sorry for the misunderstanding. It was a british guy, I can't recall his name but that guy sounded really nice like an honest player (there is a reason why I say that). So he told us he could give us a ride and we accepted. So we drove and I don't know but tobori had to logg of or had an DC. However I told this guy that tobori is missing, he said ok if I should stop. I am not sure what happend there, maybe I said him we should drive further or something, no idea, but after like 30 seconds he was talking (and I really think he was not aware that he was talking in direct chat) "Hey man, I got someone in my car, should I stop and execute him?" he was talking with someone in TS, and it was so freaking shocking. I freaked the hell out. I wrote in the chat "STOP THE CAR RIGHT NOW!!!", I was really filled with adrenaline, tobori was offline and I was in the back of the car with some guy who wants to kill me. He stopped, I jumped right into a tree line and told him he should get the hell out of here. I don't know why I did not kill him. I could've said "dude I need to bandage myself" then go right next the window, shot him in the face and say "dude, you should better check your direct chat". But I was to shocked I guess, it would've been sooo cool if I seriously would've done it. But anyway, me and tobori teamed up again and I told him the story. He was acutally suprised. But we went to the NE airfield. There was a guy with a bike, he was really cool. He had an MG and we went into a hangar. (it was a really stupid idea) THere was a heli and I really don't know why, but we stayed there and defended ourselfs from zombies. These things are your nightmare at night. They killed the dude with the MG, and almost me and tobori. However we got out and logged off near his secret base which was acutally near the NE airfield. So next day tobori was not online, because it was morning and he was working I think. But I want back to the hangars, and I LOVE dayZ for these moments. There were 2 guys looting some stuff in the hangar. I was literly like 20 meters away from them. They did not see me at first, but I saw their nameplates. It was, and I am not kidding, the guys who tried to murder me yesterday. I shot my whole mag of AK in there faces and killed them. It was SO epicly satisfying to kill them, I never ever felt so good in dayz. I laughed at them, it was pretty childish but it was great. They asked me why I did that, told me he was not going to kill me yesterday etc. etc. and then he declared war on me. Well, we played a bit on the server, but some day it was shot down and I never saw tobori again. I can remember a day, we were at the north east airfield and ran from the to freaking cherno. It was 2AM and I think it took us 50 minutes. We always had a car and tried to fix it, we always tried to fix it at the eastern coast and we always got shot there or the car broke. It was a REALLY laggy server, there was a bug that I could loot a place for wheels and I would have 20 wheels in my inventory. If I used a wheel it would add anotherone in my inventory, it was ridiclous. But anyway, it was dark I think and there was a guy without wepaons, a dead guy I think, beucase we would've never killed a unarmend guy. He had nightvision goggles but nothing else so we assumed it was a hacker. However, we were running to electro, on the way to electro I calculated the time it would take until we reach it, it was that boring. xD But anyway, it was dark and when we arrived there we checked the firestation near sniperhill. And seriously there were 4 players on the server including us. So we thought it should be pretty save. We went on the firestation and had some fun. We through flares all around the firestation. At some point I think I fell down, but I had good gear so I tried to spawn near electro. At some point I did, and tobori got killed by a player. So now both of us had to get our gear. I can't recall what happend after that, but it was real fun, in the end we lost all our gear but it was worth the expirience. There are so many other stories I could tell you, about our own house with a tractor, about jumping from an industrial building and despratly try to get our gear. It was a funny time tobori! Maybe we will speak some day, if you never change your name.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
Wayze replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because motherf*cking 99% of the servers are 3rd person server. If you give the choice to the admins they will change it to third person anyway because like I said most people will always take milk face path. The more players your server got the better, so you change it to 3rd person and voila all noobies who are not able to play the game normally are coming on the server, and this I can tell you is the biggest part of the players. As you can see, 90% of the DayZ players right now are these 12 years old who saw jackfrags or frankie on youtube and think "Haha this looks like action". They want third person, they want to pay for weapons and they want to kill on sight without reasons. These people are sadly the majority in DayZ, and these people are not hardcore DayZ players, these people actually destroyed the DayZ mod. And this is the motherf*cking reason why we are mad. Well, with DayZ SA there will be a hardcoregame. No matter if you want a big base or not. Hell, he is talking about things that no 12 year old kid wants to hear. The M4 is extremly rare, this was not the case in the mod. Kiddies were able to just find a weapon and have fun, this is not the case anymore. There are no weapons everywhere. There is no ammo everywhere. It is going to be freaking boring for them because they won't even be able to find a pistol without dying 20 times before. You cannot do that and expect to have a large community, because people don't like boring looting for days. They like action, as you can see they actually want 200.000 AS50 in their game. They want to buy weapons to start with them after every respawn. But these people will fataly fail in DayZ SA and they will have a very boring time because they expect DayZ SA to be like the mod, where you got AKs, Makarovs etc everywhere. -

I don't want to be rude, but I don't believe your family member. And even if he got that disease, (and I have no idea what this disease would be called, like "Not able to play a game without seeing the character from behind"-disease?!) is it fair to ruin the gameplay for millions of people just for one person? Should we have all black screens, because it is unfair that blind people cannot play the game? No, if he is not able to play a game, well than he can stick to DayZ Mod. Ruining the gameplay for everyone else, just because of one person is ridicilous. And what the 3rd-person defender don't realise is, that they would probably enjoy DayZ way more without the 3rd person. It is how the human works, he always tries to take the easiest path. And even if it is no fun, he will take that path. -
I really hope this changes in SA. You should not be able to get 2 bullets of any weapon in your torso and still stand on your foot. Even if you have a bulletproof west you should drop down. This would be way better and you could help the guy you just shoot down. If he is unconscious you can fix him and tell him you are friendly. So much better than killing everyone because there is no other choice.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
Wayze replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First Person Pros: + the game is way more immersive + the game is way more harder -> players will have way more satisfaction and way more time until reaching end game + zombies are way more dangerous + the game is way more realistic and authentic + the game allows realistic combat strategies like in real life + the game is way more scary, constant fear of the not knowing + the game does not allow wall hacking immortal campers who are invisible (because that is exactly what someone on a firestation, with 3rd person mode on, is) + you do not see the shitty animations (let's be honest guys, you don't really expect the animations to be good, they will look like shit compared to next gen even when the game is out of the beta) + you feel way more integrated into the world, it is not just a character you see from behind, it is you who is in the world + you see your weapon all the time, your own costumized weapon which is awesome Cons: - no god mode for 12 years old - no wallhack for 12 years old - strategic features not for 12 years old - fear and immersion not for 12 years old Let's get to the point: Allow third person and you allow the game to be a simple deathmatch. Third Person is good for action games, but not for games like DayZ. It just isn't! -
Well, sure you can play it, but with 12 years this game could be really stressful. Hell, I am 19 and this game kicks ass. You should not wonder if you get some grey hairs ;) But, I would not recommend you to play DayZ Mod, it is nothing like DayZ was supposed to be. If you like the mod, you could not like the SA, because it will be way more back to the roots. You should wait until the SA releases, it should not take too long because they just need to get the bubble to work, maybe even within the next month. However, DayZ Mod will give you an entire different image of the original game. Playing DayZ Mod right now is like playing Call of Duty or Battlefield just that you have to run 90% of the time.
-
I think it is the oppisite. I don't know if I had just luck, but everytime I follow someone or a group the people just don't see me. I am always trying to run behind something, but sometimes it is like straight over a field and it is like I am invisible. Everytime I think they saw me, nothing, they just go on. Sometimes I think people are not paranoid anymore. :/
-
In my opinion you got to play really careful regardless if you are alone or not, but if you are a lone wolf then you got to be faster than a group. So, at the beginning you should go to a big city, cherno, electro of berezino. There you just gear up, it is not hard because you got nothing to lose. Don't try to team up with someone and never approach the city from the coast. It is better when you come from the north, in electro for example you can check the sniper hill first and then go to the barn which is outside of electro. Normally you should find a winchester or an enfield. This is not just the case in electro, but cherno, too. Just check the barns for some weapons before you go to the city. With these weapons you go and loot the firestations + supermarkets. Don't walk to much on open streets, always stay near a position where you find cover. If you see anyone with better gear than you got, hunt him down and kill him, you got nothing to lose. But if you approach a looting stop like firestation or supermarket, you got to observe it. If you are sure there is no player in there, you should take your time like 1 minute to be sure, then you go in there. But the golden rule is to loot fast. Go in there, 30 seconds maximum and you should be out of there. If you got a map, some food and water + you should check the hospital for morphine, you can go north. At that point you should avoid contact with everyone who got lower gear than you, it is not worth to die for nothing useful. If you see a driving car, don't shoot at it. The people in there will either drive away and you wasted you ammo or they will stop and shoot you in the face. So never do that if you are alone. But however, I really like to go hunt groups of 3-4 people. The higher they armed, the saver they feel. You got the advantage of surpise. A lee enfield with 2 mags is enough to kill 4 highly armed guys if you got a good position. But never rush it, you can shoot one guy, two guys or even three, never go loot the body. If you really killed someone you always should wait as long as you can. Observe everything, ask the people in the chat if there heard shots at your location. If someone responds it could mean there is someone who knows you are also there. So you should also loot the corpses really fast. Take what you need and get out of there. If you find a tent you should hide it somewhere, where you would never expect someone to hide a tent. But it should be not too far from the coast, because if you die you want to access if ofcourse. Hide it well in a tree and put some good gear in it. If you encounter a guy or a group of 2 people in the woods, and you see them but they don't, you should follow them if they got better gear than you. Always stay out of their sight, but don't lose them. If they stop for drinking or maybe even loot a house, you stop wait as long as you can to get you breath back, and shoot them. You should win the fight because as they did not stop as long as you they got worse aiming. However, stary sobor is really dangerous, but you can hunt some people over there. Just hide in some bushes on the hill next to it and you are good to go. If there are no zombies in the city you are wasting your time and go for the airfield. If you find a tent with low gear, you should not burn it. You could wait some days and come back, maybe the owner will leave some decent gear in there. Well, there are some more rules but actually it is alway the same. Playing alone is like playing with a group, just that you got to be more careful with other players and loot faster.

Losing stuff you collected for days is fun? Shaking hands caused by fear is fun? DayZ is about the moments, the story you create. It is about the satisfaction that you actually are the only one ever in gaming history who lived through exactly the same what you just did. Don't tell me that you play DayZ and you are constantly happy. I mean, who the hell is having fun walking 50 minutes through the woods? It is about the 10% time, which are so unique and immersive. It is about the expirience. I really don't think a game is supposed to make fun to be good. There are other elements in the human being that motivate people and in DayZ it is ambition. Sure, you feel satisfaction when playing DayZ, but real fun? No, DayZ is not about having fun in my opinion. -

Wayze replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dean is alway talking about immersion and making a survival game for hardcore fans, but at the other hand he activates first person, which changes the whole game in every way. Running away from zombies without knowing how close behind you they really are is much better than being able to just see them by switching in 3rd person. You even don't have to turn around to see someone sneaking up on you. Also, the fact that you can look around corner and above walls is taking so much gameplay away. In DayZ combat is everything, it is so essential for the gameplay. But it is also the "not knowing" about where another player could be, what is happening behind the corner. It is much more immersive and realistic. The most annoying thing is that people can just camp, and I have nothing against campers, but in a third person game it changes everything. If you camp you got WAY more advantages. I go on the top of a firestation, and NOBODY is able to see me until I shot him in the face. It is just so overpowered, and I feel just save on top of that thing. I know I got the advantage, I am practacly immortal and invisible. Nobody will ever see me if I don't peek out to shoot. Also I can just hide behind a tree and nobody will see me until he actually goes around the tree. Me however, I can see him the whole time. It is changing the gameplay into a deathmatch. You don't need to interact with people, you are invisible and immortal, because you can go on top of a building and just kill everyone withreally low chances that you die. Really, ask yourself. Do you play DayZ because it is such an good action shooter or because it is a really immersive game? You die, you lose everything. This is (or was) one of the key elements of DayZ, but having the third person mode is giving you so much more security, you just feel so much better than without. And please stop with the "You can't see as much as in 3rd person so it sucks!". You want to tell me that Battlefield, Call of Duty and all other FPS suck because they have no third person mode? What the hell? And as you see your character in the inventory, there is simply no need for the 3rd person mode. The third person mode is actually just for the players who want to feel save, who want to have an easy game without tactics. It is for the campers who wait on the top of a firestation and peek out just when shooting someone. Actually I know exactly for what people it is, it is for the backstabbing guys who are too afraid to fight face to face. They want to peek around a corner, go around the house and kill you from behind. Exactly that sort of player is loving the third person mode. It is for the players who don't even get what DayZ is all about, it is about the immersion! -

Wait, the zombies are 0% done? I can remember a devblog which was only about zombie pathfinding. Well, is that including the 0%? I don't know, but it sounds like Dean is trying to defend himself from bad critism. -
I don't know if it would be possible with the arma engine, but I just got an idea. So, if you write something into direct chat (and in SA there is just the direct chat and the radios) the thing what you wrote pops up over you head. Why? Because if you write something, someone else would hear it. Ofcourse he would know where this voice is coming from, if the text pops up near you, he actually knows where you are. If someone writes something behind you, a chatmark (similar to a mark on the map) will direct you to the direction. This could be cool for teaming up, because someone knows exactly where you are if you talk to him (like in real life). And secondly chatting near an enemy is dangerous. Maybe there could be a whisper mode, which is like 2-5 meters, a talking mode which is 30-50 meters and a shouting mode with 300-400 meters (I am just guessing). Why this idea? Because there are many, many people who are not playing with a headset, and shouting for example is important to allow friendly interaction. But like I said, I think this won't work with the arma engine, however just an idea.

I really hope there will be a new trailer for DayZ Standalone, like the one for the mod. It is that awesome that I even watch it today. -
There will be no side channel anyway in standalone and I hope Dean keeps up his word.
-
If you moving around with a group it would be no problem. Like I said there could be something like a marker on the screen. So if someone is behind you, the text will pop up down the screen, you could read the text but you would have to turn around to know where it comes from. Chatting to whoever you want without much thought is working in DayZ Mod because you have simply nothing to lose. Run around with a DMR, who cares if you lose it? You can get another one in 30-60 mins. But, if you run around in Standalone with a M4 which took you days to find, and you know exactly this weapon is rare as hell, you would think twice about talking to someone without much thought. Standalone will change the core gameplay of DayZ, right know DayZ Mod is simply a deathmatch. Standalone however will go back to the roots and will be even harder than DayZ Mod when it came first out. There won't be a M4 in every building, like Dean said, weapons will be very, very rare. Ammo will be very, very rare. So that will bring a totally new kind of bandits, who will actually kill you because of you gear, which is not working in the mod simply because your gear is nothing worth. Yes, I meant that the text would be visible through objects. It is not really about the constant talk in side channel, it is the fact that side channel is breaking a core element of DayZ. Sure, you are used to it, probably you never played the real DayZ Mod like it was supposed to be, but I can tell you without side channel there was way more immersion. The worst thing about side chat is that people can team up and talk to another whenever they want. DayZ is not about social communication and teaming up, DayZ is about surviving in a world. So, if you can team up every moment you want, just by asking someone in side channel, you simply don't need to let anyone alife. However, if you play alone without side channel and see someone walking near you after 2 hours playing alone, you will maybe be greatful about the company. You ask him to team up and then you got a not scripted situation. If you ask someone in side channel "hey I am unarmend lets team up" you go find each other and team up. You won't kill each other because you have no gear anyway. But if the situation is not scripted like that, teams will be way more rare and most importantly, for you your team mate will be way more important. If he dies, and you did not give him you skype ID or something, he is dead for you. Probably you will never find him again and you will feel even sad about losing a companion. So, this is actually what dayz was always about. The fear of losing something. And I can tell you, losing a good person is sometimes even worse than losing all your gear.
-
DayZ is no Walking Dead, if you die you stay dead, you don't turn into a zombie. Actually there are no zombies in DayZ, there are just infected people. If I am not mistaken the background is really similar to I am Legend. A global virus which is transmitted by air infected the world. Every single human is infected, some humans are restistent against this virus (1%) and others turn into primitive people (19%) and the rest died (80% of the human population). Not sure if these are the exact numbers, but something like that. Anyway, they are no zombies. If you shoot an infected human in the heart, he will die. He is the same as a human besides the fact that the virus has took over his body. Why they are running faster, why they are not starving as fast as normal humans, this is something you can explain how you want. Maybe the virus changes the human body completly, so there are alternative sources of energie. I don't know and I am no expert. However, the infected are fast because they are otherwise no threat to the player. Even if they are as fast as a player the player would not care about it. He would run and trick the AI, which will be really bad anyway. I hope the zombies in the standalone will be way more deadly, like the death reason number 1. I think you missed the point of dayz. Sure, right now it is a real deathmatch, but this will change. And it won't change in the way you want. The good thing, the unique thing about DayZ is that you never know if the player in front of you will kill you or not. The game is about the interaction with other people, the good one and the bad one. If you have gear you don't want to lose you got to be more careful, and this will increase in the standalone because there are no weapons which will be controlled by the private hives. But like it looks you want to play a game where you know you enemy and everyone you play with is on your side. So, why don't you just play Battlefield? DayZ is not about teaming up and play together, it gives you the opportunity, but it's no the point. DayZ is about losing you gear and being killed by a bandit. That is what makes dayZ special.

He said they want to release the alpha within the next 2 months, that was on the E3. Now please don't start the f*king same childish discussion again. "Dean never said that he would ever release the alpha you god damn punk!" > :( "Oh yes he did you f*cking fanboy!" <_< "No he did not!" "Yes he did!" ... I don't care if Dean just said it because they have an internal release date or if he just wanted to screw with the community. I even don't give a single sh*t about what he said. I want to know if there is any possibility that the DayZ Standalone Alpha will release within the next 10 days, because I never heard Dean telling us that the "2 month contract" is not valid anymore. And don't tell me that he never said that, he definitely said that they are optimistic about the release and that there is an internal release week which is somewhere in between the next 2 months. And even if he did not say it, like I said, no f*ck is given. -

A time ago I played DayZ on an awesome server. There were vehilces, not to many but it was good. There were weapons, exactly how many you need to let the game be survival. So I played some time on the server and I knew there was a big group with lots of stuff. One day I was north of electro, near sniper hill. Luckily I had a hero skin by then, because an ural was driving up to me asking me if I need a ride. I said "Sure" and this was the moment I had my first contact with the big group. So we had some adventures on the way and he asked me if I want to join them. Told him my skype ID etc. We were a really cool group. But from the beginning I was not really a member of the group. I was delivering weapons and cars. It was a real cool system actually. They brought me a car and I searched for weapons and other cars. Everytime I had a decent number of weapons in this car, or found another car I would hide it and tell them the location to pick it up and bring it to the base. Actually at this point I did not know where the base is, I told him he should not tell me so we could be partners. Back to the system, so if I would die, they would bring me weapons and a car in no time. This system worked very good and it was real fun. I got ghillie suit and every kind of stuff I needed. Actually I was mostly running with an enfield or AK so I don't lose any good weapons from the team. But at some day the people I played with told me there was a problem. Another big group was attack their base and stealing cars. So I had to get their. We had a really good fight. Luckily we won and we moved the base to another location. A day after the war, all our stuff was gone. They actually find our base and raided it. Well, we had now maybe 2 cars and some weapons. The other group had 5 helis and many cars. So I had an idea. I changed my name, took the ghillie suit off so they wouldn't recognise me and then I told my group to kill me. So I respawned and told everyone on the server that actually the group I am working for is a group of hero killers who shot unarmend. I kind of played with my enimies, and luckily it worked. They said they got the same enemy and picked me up. It was actually not easy to locate their base, because they first did not trust me 100%. So we played some days, I actually saw that he was only a person. No evil guy who destroys us. He picked up people at the coast, did all of the shit. He was the leader of the group and I kind of got the person he played with most. I was online often these days so I could build up kind of a friendship. I felt like a freaking soviet spy, because I knew I would just wait for the moment until I know every single coordinates of all the bases. So when I had these bases, and when all of the group were offline I told my real group where these bases are. We raided everything, but I stayed where the leader logged off. Next day I log in and he tells me everything is gone. I played again with him and said we would have to gear up again. So we kind of grouped up, there were like 6 people highly armend. I told them I knew where a heli was I hid some days ago. So we went there. What they did not know is that my group actually was ambushing there. And actually there was the heli, because my group put it there. They all got together near the heli, I have thrown a grenate and telling them it was just a empty can. So almost everyone died, including me. The rest of them was shot by my group, hiding far away. This was the moment he realised I was just spying him, betraying him. I felt bad, but it was probably the best experience I ever had in this game. Really intense and awesome. What I did not know up to this point, that these people got their stuff from a hacker. So one day after this, they teleported us all to them and killed us. The hacker was banned, but the war started again. Well, that's the story of me being a spy. I have to say it was the best way of end game I ever had in dayz. But I am sure some of you got similar expirience. And what do you think about spies? Are they assholes or would you do the same?
