First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
Wayze replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As you are not able to see above your character, you will not see what is infront of him. I think many people won't like this. -
Do you play on first or third person servers?
Wayze replied to Wayze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Like I said it is too soon. If there were 100 votes we could have some interpretation. And it is not about all the players, it is about the hardcore players. Because they are simply the people who will play the standalone. Do you think all those kids who play right now the DayZ mod with 50.000 AS50s per server will enjoy the standalone where you got to be very, very lucky to even find ammo for a m4? Really doubt that. -

Will be implemented in the standalone. -

Well, it is kind of soon to interpret the results, but right now it looks like my theory was right. Could change though. -

I started a new poll: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/146501-do-you-play-on-first-or-third-person-servers/ Wrong, he stated once he would make that game for the hardcore fans, not for anyone else. Sure, he also tends to do what he likes, but he is doing it for us, not for himself. -

How do you know that the "wider population" thinks different? Because admins decide over what people play? Because the players play on third person servers? Well, I'll try to open a new poll which asks if those people who don't want third person servers actually play on first person servers or not. And you forgot that DayZ is not made for the "wider population" but for us the hardcore community. Without us this game would simply not exist because we were the guys who made youtube videos, we were those who made free advertisment. And if he makes the game for the "wider population" in the end it will just be another survival shooter that failed due to developer ignorance. -

Well obviously people tend to take the easy path, especially in a survival scenario which kind of activates you instincts. Even me I find myself playing on third person servers, mainly because there are no decent first person players, but also because it is way easier. And DayZ is not a survival game anymore. You can find weapons everywhere, you will never starve because there is food everywhere and people just kill one sight for fun. Obviously that is the case now. DayZ Mod is not like DayZ is supposed to be. So why should I play first person if there is no reason for me. DayZ right now is purely PVP. Zombies are lame and you can survive a year just by taking 10 cans of beans and water in your backpack and go into the forest. But like I said this will change in SA. No weapons, no ammo and no food. It will be way harder to survive. Then I will have a reason for playing the game in first person, because it actually is a pretty realistic survival scenario, besides the fact that zombies exist. -

Agreed. But I think the fact that admins are not able to decide over loot will undoubtly have the most impact on the gameplay. It will change the whole game into a completly new expirience (or old ;) ). -

Climbing ladders in real life is also terrible indeed. You can not just watch over your back because you have to see the ladder. If you prone in grass why should you be able to see something? You are prone in the grass, the other guy does not see you, so why should you be able to see him? Exactly that is also a point which appears in real life. You never can see someone if you don't have visual contact. If you can see him he should be able to see you, because that is how it works in real life and how it should work in DayZ to improve the immersion and the combat system. -

Like I said, there is no solution for the wall hacking problem. In third person you can always see what is behind a wall, behind a corner. This simple fact is changing the whole combat system into arcade shooter. You can not use any combat tactics which base on reality. Even if you cannot peek over something you will always be able to peek next to something. So the only solution I see is to let the main server decide which server is a third person server and which one is not a third person server. There should be a global poll and this statistics should then be used to let the main server decide how many servers are first person and how many are not. You cannot give the choice to the admin because it will result in the same as in the mod. -

Yes that is the problem, there won't be even any first person servers and if there are they are either full of empty. -

Have some fun? Go play Call of Duty or Super Mario if you want some "fun". As you probably noticed, Dean is doing everything to take the feeling of savety. So no weapons anymore, no ammo anymore and antibiotics, hell you gonna be a lucky guy if you find some. But these things are the core elements of the game, a wall hacking feature is not one of them. Actually it is destroying one of the main features, which is infact the combat system. Playing a game feels more save? More save than what? We are talking about the game, not the real life, don't you know the difference anymore? -

My godness, how many times do we have to explain to you? There is simply no good first person server, because it is either not well visited or it is like 10FPS. The people play third person servers because they feel saver, it is an instinct. They will not stop to do that, even if they know they would have more fun with first person, because their subconscious is not letting them. It is like people getting fat, the body is telling them they want more, but actually it does nothing good for them. However, 10.000 years ago this feature was really useful. The same as wanting to observe everything. As long as people got the choice of feeling save and not feeling save, they will choose the save way. -

There is simply no real way to change that, you will always be able to peek behind a wall, which is exactly the same as being on a roof. It is changed the whole combat system into a arcade game. It is not realistic in any way anymore. And let us be honest here, DayZ is pretty much about a authentic and realistic survival situation, besides the zombies, but anything else is trying to be so deep and realistic as no other game was before. But ironicly Dean Rocket Hall fails in realising that he missed the core element. He does not understand that third person is simply making this game into an arcade game, there is no real combat, just a game. The whole survival scenarion and then this. It changes the game into obviously being a game. You can see your character constantly which takes yourself out of the situation. You don't feel as involved as in first person. I don't know why the f*ck Dean does not see that. Oh sure, ofcourse I will use a granade before even knowing that somebody is f*cking camping on that house! Do you want to use 20 granades before you can even go on the streets because on every roof there could be a player? What the hell? You forgot that the guy does see you, but you don't see him. If he is smart he kills you before you even notice him. So no granade and I really don't think you will find a granade that easy in SA. -

Yes, it does not make you invincible if you a total retard. But if you got a little bit brains you can camp on that and never be killed. It is just stupid, it is TOTALLY unrealistic and it destroys the whole combat system of the game. The whole simulation is for nothing, because the main core element is missing. -

There is no other solution than removing third person completly from the game. What are you going to do? You will always be able to look behind walls and if you are not able to do that, nobody will play in third person because it would be just senseless. The problem is that Dean really thinks that most of us like third person. What I think is his main reason for third person: The animations. Simple, he worked so much at the animations, what would he need them for if you are just in first person mode? Believe me, Dean does want us to play in third person. To see the character with his cool clothes and unique animations for everything. The handcuff situation and how you lie on the ground. (btw I really hope you won't be able to see anything while unconcious) And I think it is his personal preference. Even if he knew most of us does not want it, and once he told us that he was making that game for the hardcore gamers no matter how many sells he gets, he will keep it in. And as you see most of us simply don't want it, we the hardcore players. I hope he will listen to the feedback, because the first thing I will report as a bug is seeing through walls. I really would enjoy the game much more if I could play it in first person. But as you can see there are simply no good first person servers and if there are there are not well visited... Exactly, and you can even gawk at you character in the inventory, that is the special feature about the SA. You really don't want to know how many people I killed on exact that position. It is godmode, nothing else, even a sniper on the hill is not able to kill you. -

Wayze replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ is about immersion. Without that, the game would be a simple shooter. Adding third person removes a hell lot of amount of immersion. I really don't know what is the problem in first person. Obviously games in first person work excelent. Half Life, Borderlands, Battlefield, Call of Duty even Skyrim is primarly a first person game and would work totally fine without the third person. In Skyrim they add the third person because the game is a RPG and there are many people out there who just like to play a RPG in 3rd person. But, now you wonder, why is there no third person in all these other games? Why are they so successful? Maybe one of the main reasons is that these games are actually first person shooters, not third person shooters. So, the poll we saw last time is the evidence that the hardcore gamers don't want third person and the fact that first person shooters are way more successful then third person shooters is the evidence that even the casual gamer group does not like third person. But, as DayZ is a game about progress and pure survival, there is a instinct (I will call it like that) in us human which activates itself when being in that survival situation. You know, it is just a game, but you know for yourself that you get adrenalin when having very valuable gear and being shot at. The instinct which I mean is the reason why we humans are so successful, we always try the easiest way. The more we know about our enviorment the better. That is why we human walk on two feet, it was only to see preditors in high grass. If you stand up, you have an excellent overwatch. Ironicly, this is a feature of us humans, it is natural. It is in our DNA. But the problem is, that we use that instinct in a game. The instinct of desiring information about what is happening around us. This instinct is the reason why the people like to play third person. It is not because they enjoy it more, it is not because they are handicapped, it is just because they feel saver. Like I said, this is a human desire, it is completly naturall. But as we all know, first person is way more immersive than third person. You don't feel save at all. Sure, here in this forum are some people who just like to play third person, yes that is subjective. If you like third person you can go and play ghost recon future soldier or some othergames. But like I said, it is not that the most people who play DayZ like third person more than first person, it is the simple fact that their subconious does not want them to play first person, because it is more dangerous. As you see, simple facts: First person games are WAY more successful than third person games Hardcore DayZ Community does not want third person in any form in the game These two facts, they are simple, but they are clear. There is no reason for having third person. The only thing is reaches is breaking the immersion and fun for every player (besides the low percantage which likes third person really much), because even if a normal casual player wants to play first person, his subconsious will get him always (or most of the times) to play the easier, saver way. This is especially a factor in DayZ because in DayZ you actuall feel like in a survival situation, you feel as if it was real. You know it is not, but you instinct are activated (maybe not for all of us, but especially for new players). I really, really hope Rocket reads what we write here... -

Yes, but now we just need to Dean to realise that. To realise that we, the hardcore community, don't want any third person anymore. He has to see the polls, otherwise he will implement it anyway. -

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
Wayze replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The problem is that the admin has the choice, not the player. I think it developed like followed: First there was only first person (if I recall right), people played DayZ. Then there were some servers which offered third person, so everyone wants to test it ofcourse. As they test it these servers are more populated, and players go always to the most populated servers. So, I think that the main part of the DayZ players never even played first person only, because they got to a server which had third person. A new player is always trying to take the easy way, so if he had third person and then gets into a first person server he thinks "What the hell is this? Way to difficult..." in fact he is taking the path which is easier, but in the long term probably not more enjoyable. But that player will never go to a first person server, because he is simply used to third person. And exactly that is the problem. If there were never third person people would not complain and probably enjoy the game way more and more importantly longer than usually. It would change the interaction with players immensly because it is something different to watch someone else knowing that he could spot you too. Everything, the core gameplay of DayZ, would change just by the fact that it is not a third person game. Not just the simple thinks that you think are important, like watching over a wall, but also the core gameplay of DayZ, the player interaction and the paranoia you feel. DayZ was never made for guys who just want to shot other people, but the admins have the choice what to do with their servers, they make it into a deathmatch. And believe me, many people will not enjoy the standalone because it won't be like that anymore. It will be the hardcore expirience, maybe even harder than the mod ever was. All those people who watch frankie on pc, then go into a normal server and think "this is dayZ" will realise very fast that the standalone is nothing like that. It won't be the same game anymore and believe me, there is a reason why DayZ Mod became what it became. The biggest part of the community does not desire a survival game, but an action game with some of the features DayZ already has (losing gear, player interaction etc.). And these people are mostly the people who don't bother to play first person, they take the easiest and most action pased path. But like I said these people will not enjoy the standalone until the admins gain full controll about the loot, which will never happen. Now, the kid does not know what is best for him, so the parents, not the government, should force him to lose some weight, for his own good. A kid as you know is stupid, he doesn't know what is best for him. The parents part is to show him this path and maybe even force him on that path. If the parents don't do that, they are simply no good parents and don't give a sh*t about the health of their own child. -
Searched a good name, thought about Wayne so I switched one letter. This fits good to me because I don't give a sh*t.

First Vs. Third Person Poll (Post your vote here, after reading Dslyecxi video discussion)
Wayze replied to (TMW) Marion Mic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, who is given a f*ck about who represents what? We, the hardcore community, which is the main objective regarding to Dean, is saying that third person sucks. Simple as that. We want First Person only, or at least don't let it be an admin option, but a main server controlled thing. You know, 70.75% = first person servers and the rest third person. I don't give a sh*t, but I don't want the same disaster as in DayZ Mod. -
I don't know if you understand the functionality of a discussion, but you know, the discussion actually developes within the process of the discussion. I know, this may be new to you, but I got to inform you. You see, the actuall question asked by the person who opened this topic, was actually answered. Yes it was, believe it or not, but there is no doubt. And as good fellow humans we ofcourse want the best for other humans. As you see, I just tried to give him a good suggestion. People do that, they exchange their own opinion about something, to actually help other people. In this case it is saving money and a lot of frustration, including a better overall expirience for the probably best game ever. He never mentioned the Standalone, but he asked for advise, so here we are, we advise him. So, my dear "DayZ Forum Team"-Member, let us talk about the accusation. You try to tell everyone in this forum that the Standalone will be actually like the mod? I really don't know what you have played the last 6 months and I don't know either if you have any information regarding to the Standalone, but it really seems, and I don't want to offense you, but to me it just seems as if you were living behind the moon over the last year. Let me get to the point, here is my explanation why the DayZ-Mod is nothing like the Standalone will be. Number one, the most important, is that items (the loot) will be actually controlled by a main server. That means, weapons, ammo, food etc. will be very rare and hard to obtain. And exactly that is the huge, very, very huge difference between those two games. The core of the survival game DayZ is (I should say was because it changed pretty much) that it is actually a survival game. As weapons are very, very rare the peoples behavior is changing massivly. The reason for that is that the loss of something that is very, very rare is much more painful than losing something invaluable. And as you know in DayZ Mod there is nothing from value. You can get AS50s and cars within one hour. Within one hour you have actually made the progress which you will probably never make in DayZ Standalone. The progress of the gear, which is the only thing which let's us play the game, is the most important, and I mean it, factor for this game. Even "back2theroots" DayZero is ridicilous filled with weapons. I can find a M4 within 20 mins. As you probably heard Dean Rocket Hall, he stated that exactly this won't be the case anymore. Weapons are rare, if you lose them, you lose them for days not just for 5 mins. In DayZ Mod right now there is simply nothing to fear, actually the only thing you can do is spoil the expirience. And here is the important part why I don't advise to buy Arma 2 for the Mod, it is simply because if you have seen an AS50 in the Mod, a hunting rifle in the Standalone won't impress you in any way. You already had an AS50, so what the hell? But, if you never played the mod, you will feel like a god after finding the hunting rifle. And ofcourse the whole map will be a totally fresh expirience, you don't know anything about chernarus. And also, DayZ Mod is very, very simple and very, very easy to master and survive. There is simply nothing to fear about in this game. If you die you can get the gear back within 20 mins. Everyone is playing pure PVP without any player interaction because there is simply no reason. And this is point number two, the player interaction which will change immensive in the Standalone. It is not as easy as it was before to survive alone and there are many more reason to stay alive than just you weapon. Maybe you got awesome clothes or a cool looking character. However, this will probably change the whole gameplay of DayZ. Ofcourse, there won't be even weapons for having a deathmatch, because you simply won't find it. And people with a weapon don't want to lose it because they had a hard time to find it. Actually these facts will change the deathmatch into a survival game. As zombies are a bigger threat and more dangerous it will also be harder to survive. And the simple fact that it will be way harder to survive will also change the whole game. I don't know how you could compare these two games. Sure, both of them have zombies, an open world and you lose everything you got if you die. But besides that the games are totally different.
-
xD You asked why and now it is irrelevant? Sure...
-
Because the DayZ Mod has nothing to do with DayZ and is nothing like the Standalone, it will just leave a not representive image.
