First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
Wayze replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, I played softair. We had our own ghillie suits, but that is because we had time to make them, we were having ghillie suits to actually hide from each other. I don't think that people in the apocalypse will have the time to make their own ghillie suits and even if they had they would not walk around with these things because it is unpractical and awfully hot in there. Also you need to specialise your camo at new locations, everytime. This is something that does not work out in a game. Also, you as a paintball player are probably more into this combat stuff than an average citizen. They don't know how to make a ghillie suit and probably they wouldn't even bother. Also paintball is something completly different from a real combat situation. The adrenalin is over the top and you are just scared as sh*t. I know from expirience that stuff like paintball gives you adrenaline too, but this is simply nothing compared to "real life". It does not really unlock your survival instincts, the fear is not high enough to get your body focused on survival, which means better peripheric sight etc. You have a huge advantage, because you are in camo. But if you made a mistake, which happens pretty easy if you are an amateur, it means nothing else than your death. If you think nobody can see you, it could get a problem. And the last point is that in DayZ you can hide as good as in real life, in a shorter time you can do it better than you actually would be able. Just run into a pinetree and you are perfectly safe, with a ghillie suit you are invisible. I don't think you need third person for that. -

I don't think DayZ is about being easy. What you find good in third person is in my opinion a real fun-killer. I like games like Dark Souls, where you have to actually do something to accomplish things. If everything is easy as f*ck the feeling of reaching a goal or accomplishing something is way less than when a game is hard. Landing a chopper between rocks is not horrible, it is just harder in first person than in third person. You know, for landing a chopper between rocks you would need months, maybe even years, of training in real life. You complain about that it is not working immediatly, but why should it? You should improve your skills in that matter and I think that is a motivator for the game. You get better and better, but if you reached the "pro-level" in 20 minutes there is simply nothing to be proud of. But if you have to try and try and train your own skills, you get better and in the end there is a way more deeper feeling of joy. You did something that actually requires skill. Hiding in foliage is maybe easier in 3rd person, but not impossible in first person. I think video games are not exactly made for that kind of stuff, because it is hard to implement it right. But I think also in real life it is not easy to actually hide yourself as good as in DayZ. Even with a ghillie suit, as an amateur you would have big problems with creating the illusion of camoflage. And do not tell me that DayZ is not about realism, because that is one of the main features of the game. (yes I know zombies are not realistic) Without the realism many aspects of the game, like the immersion, would get irrelevant. In DayZ mod they already gone, but I hope they will be back in the SA. -

I don't want to insult you, I have almost the same opinion. It is a bit naive of you saing that removing the exploit would be solving the issue. I think there is just no way of removing the exploit from third person without making third person totally useless and annoying. The reason is that third person is almost made for exploit. You can look around a corner, that will never change. And this is where 90% of the exploits take place. It is not the camping buddy on the firestation it is the looking around a corner every 3 seconds. It is something that we do unconsciously, everytime we walk around a corner. Also a very, very important thing is that in third person you have no visual recoil. This is in first person actually really realistic, aiming down the sights is not easy even if you just ran like 20 meters. You have to focus and if a player is far away the sights are not as useful as on close quarter combat. In third person there is no sight, you have just the little crosshair which tells you the exact point you shooting at. This would be prevented by just removing the crosshair, but I am not sure if Dean will do that. -
Yes, I think they are already working on that in the standalone. They definitly talked about it once. It is available in Arma 3. Sure, I will think other people.

Alright, I know that seems like I would start the same poll again, but this is something different. I heard from a lot of the TPV (third person view) lovers that the fact that most of the people play on TPV-servers is evidence that most of the people actually want third person. But my theory is, that even if most of us want to play on FPV-servers we play on the TPV-servers anyway. Me for example I really would like to play only first person, but actually I play mainly on TPV-Servers. Maybe I am wrong, but we will see. If most of us vote for A) this would destroy the main argument of the TPV-lovers, which is that we do not represent the community because the community is obviously not doing what we want.

Limited peak abilities? You mean you are not able to see through a wall without exposing yourself?

I think both of these solutions would be way to hard to programm. The first one would make third person totally useless and the second one would turn DayZ in a Sci-Fi game. -

Well, "clicky clicky kill kill mode" will be the obviously the normal behavior in such an apocalypse. I think you forgot that you just got 1 life and not unlimited like in DayZ. Maybe you played the game too much, but there is no second chance. If there is just 1 guy who just wants your food, he will kill you. You would be dead, end of story. You would like to be far, far away from me? I don't know if you have any idea of human behaviour, but extreme situations are followed by extreme behaviour. So you a hero now? You would be brave, have no fear or whatsoever? Dude, it is not a game. You would probably piss yourself, like myself and every other guy in that forum who was not in a situation like that before. We would not just shake from fear, we would be paralized. In the beginning it would probably be ok, you could find a group etc. and I agree, without a group you a screwed, but there will be people, and I guarantee you that, who will even eat human flesh, because they don't want to starve. You should really watch the movie "The Road", it is really good, maybe not 100% realistic but I think that people would act exactly like in that film. And that film was without f*cking zombies. Zombies would even encourage this behavious more. Ease the stress level a bit? For what? This is DayZ, that what it always was about. Go ask Dean, he even stated in an interview that exactly the behaviour of killing someone for food inspired him to make this game. Go play Battlefield or some other sh*t if you want a shooter. This is a survival game, fear is actually the most essential feature of this game. -

If I see a guy with 3rd person enable, I don't have to worry about him at all. I can flank him and just shot him in the face, so why should I keep him alive? I mean, he has some cool gear, I got my third person and the first moment he stops I will shot him in the face so gear does not get broken. You know, sometimes the "kill on sight" thing is actually a part of the game. DayZ is kind of a survival simulator, and what do you think would people do in real life if they see each other with weapons in their hands? What do you think they would do in a world where everyone fights for food and safety? Do you think this guy would just like "Hey I am friendly man don't shot buddy!". With that attitude you would probably not survive a day in such a survival scenario. If a human is pushed to his limits, which obviously occurs within an apocalypse, this human will do everything to survive. There is no "Hey I am friendly buddy!". A friendship with a stranger is something very dangerous and probably very rare. Even after days you cannot trust that dude, maybe he will kill you while you are asleep. However, some situations are different. If you see someone almost dead or almost starved maybe you would help him. Give him food etc. And I think that exactly that should be the way how it goes in DayZ, people should not be friendly if they see each other with guns. I don't like that "Friendly?" and all that sh*t. It is exactly the oppisite of role playing. And you said even you could observe the player and see if he is friendly. Well, that will take you some very, very cool expiriences. If there is no 3rd person you would have probably no spotted him, there would maybe even be a face to face confrontation. Regardless if you like kos or not, this is a essential part in DayZ. Exactly these confrontations where you have to decide in fractions of seconds if you wanna shot or not. In third person there are no confrontations like that, maybe in a building but that is probably rare. You stop a guy, you either kill him or interact with him. If you decide to kill him he got probably no chance to survive and if you interact him you are in the upper hand always because he probably will not be able to locate you. Additional to that you are not into your character as if you were in first person. Try it out, play DayZ on third person and on first person. Go to cherno and try both out. You will realise that playing in first person a trip to cherno is way more frightning and intense than playing in third person. You never know if there is somebody. This has huge impact to the roleplaying element. In third person you have the overview, you are not afraid at all because you are aware of the situation. This takes you somehow out of the situation because you are like a good, you can see something you character is not able to see. In a face to face situation in first person you don't play the role, you are the role. The fractions of seconds you have to decide if you shot or not, firstly that moment is very thrilling and shocking and secondly you don't have time for role playing. It is a decisioun which comes from yourself. Your instinct, what you would do in that situation. Third person simply takes away a lot of non scripted events which are essential to DayZ. You will never be suprised like without third person. You get used to the game and feel no fear at all, why should you, there is nothing going to happen that is unexpected. Sure maybe it will, but if you are careful it probably won't. Do you think that is roleplaying? Observing everything and having the situation 90% under controll? That is in my opinion the exact oppisite of what you described. -

You serious? You just accept that "explaination"? -
Yes I remember a documantation about future cars etc. and there were a prototype of a flying car. They said in a few years everyone will fly with these cars. That was like 8 years ago?
-
I answered that, it is a human instinct to take the easy path, the save path. Especially in a simulated survival scenario the human desires the feeling of safety. This is something you get by switching to first person.

No, my friend would play the game and realise that it is a much more immersive and just better expirience. He woudl enjoy the game way more than he actually thought he could. ;) -

The world is not as simple as you think. If it would be, we all would be playing first person a long time ago. -
My theory: People tend to take the easy path, the more secure path. This is sadly a human instinct which prevents us from playing first person. We know we would probably enjoy the game way more and everything would be better, but another part is kind of forcing us to take the easy road.
-
I keep it short. There are 2500 people who do not want third person. This is the majority of the community. These people do not play on first person server. The reason is totally irrelevent, they just want the third person to be gone so they are actually able to play first person. Why people do not play on first person server? I have no idea, but it doesn't matter.
-
That's it, I explained to you like 10 times now and others did, too. You just don't want to get it.
-
Do you play on first or third person servers?
Wayze replied to Wayze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I said you know what I mean, between us the hardcore community, which is the main selling point this poll is practacly representing democracy. The are the parlament, we are the fractions. It is like in real life. The people do not know what is best for their country so there is a parlament, there are special people who then vote for different subject matters. Were are these people, obviously the casual player do not know what is best for DayZ because they want it to be a deathmatch. You can guarantee me what you want, but I simply see the main fraction of the players playing on exact these servers. And are you acusing people who like AS50s to be dumb? It is simply an opinion, no need to disciminate them. And sure the hardcore community is devided, but that works in democracy the same. But as a matter of fact most of the community is contra third person, so you are actually representing the extremistic opinion, within the community atleast. -

You know, that is called an opinion. I don't have to change it just because some people like third person. I don't like it and many other don't like it either, but probably everyone knows that third person is an exploit machine. I think most people play it because the first person in DayZ is quite difficult. -

What point? You mean the point that the view is totally unrealistic and creates core exploit elements? Sure, that point counts for us. -
Do you play on first or third person servers?
Wayze replied to Wayze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is not that it will be harder, it is that it will be way less action oriented than standalone. You know exactly what the people like most, the go get a sniper and camp on a hill to shoot new spawns. Or maybe just take a heli and crash into somebody. But this was not like that in the beginning, the problem is that the majority of the players came to DayZ when exactly this "action" gameplay appeared. So the majority does probably not even know how DayZ is in original. And to your democracy complaining. You know exactly what I mean. And if you give everyone the chance to vote about it, you will see that if you give them the right to vote about AS50s everywhere they will choose yes. That is why it has to be limited to a hardcore community, which does want DayZ as survival game not as second Battlefield game. -
What gives me the right to state my opinion? Which means: Basic Law I. The Fundamental Rights (Article 1-19) Article 5 (1) Everyone has the right to state and spread his opinion in word, writing and picture and to inform himself without hindrance from generally accessible sources. The liberty of press and the liberty of reporting by means of broadcast and film are guaranteed. Censorchip does not take place. My evidence was taken at like 4AM (GMT+2), whole europe was asleep. Anyways, Day Zero is maybe a kind of back2theroots, but there is still a ridicilous amount of ammo, weapons, food and everything everywhere. And it is pay2win. Secondly my DayZ Commander does not load all the servers, I don't know why but my internet crashes after loading like 1000 servers. Maybe you could also send us some screenshots right now with the most populated servers in total, including the Day Zero Mod and every other mod out there. Then check on which servers the people are mostly.
-
But it is the total opinion of the relevant fraction.

Hi. Hm, for me it sounded like "Hey, it is just 5000 people who voted, but there are more than 1 million playing so the poll is invalid".
