Yes, sadly what you describe is most combat situations in DayZ. Both just wait who moves first. As Frankie said in his last video, this is something that makes DayZ really boring in that matter. It is just not dynamic anymore. -

No, that is simply not right. In third person you don't have to bother about the recoil, because the you always see where you aim. Plus you can shoot someone while lying the the grass. Also you got a way better overview of the movement, especially in close quarter combat third person is from huge advantage. -

Arma is a combat simulation. I think it was made for first person, but third person was added to make the game easier for the players. Higer accuracy, no recoil, exploiting. All these things are not really made for a combat simulation. The problem is, I think many people just don't know that first person is better than third person. Hell, if I hadn't played DayZ for a year I would probably being here defend first person. -

I'll correct you. DayZ Mod is not just for hardcore fans or just for masses. DayZ SA, well that is a completly other thing. We will see how many players will play DayZ SA after 2 months. -
Hm, I hope so.

So if I get into a laggy server I have to wait 15 minutes until I can join another one?

Think it through. If I find 3 bullets, what am I going to do with it? Just run around like a maniac and maybe use them if I am in danger? No, I go to a position where I can kill someone without destroying his gear. I go on top of a building and camp for someone. Then, if I spot anyone I will wait until he stands still and headshot, his gear stays intact and I am a happy man. I got still some bullets left and maybe the other guys has some decent loot. Anyway, there will be some common camping spots in the standalone, that is for sure. These camping spots will probably not exist on first person servers. -
Tents are ok in my opinion. But undestroyable, unlockable houses are an absolute nono. This is why I hate origins. The people can just build their house and from that moment there is nothing to worry about. They can concentrate 100% on pvp.

That was not what I was talking about. Is there any solution for server hoppers? In Mod it was a huge problem until private servers dominated. People just went to NWAF got on a low populated server and switched servers until they had high value gear. Also people server hoppen in combat situations, after you engaged someone he gets in cover, servers hops and in 5 mins he is behind you.
-
Btw. are characters not locked to servers? Serverhoppers will farm loot and serverswitch to do exactly what you described. Hope Dean has a solution for this.

The zombie apocalypse is not coming within a day, it took probably weeks or months until so many people got infected. The people who survive, the immune people, would have had enough time to clothe how they want. However, I would like a random clothing system, too. This is a really good idea. Edit: Wait, it is not a good idea. If you get like NVGs when spawning and then die within an hour you would have the NVGs again... -
The name of the character can be locked to the username of the account. So every character has the same name. The problem with keeping good stuff could be solved by making a lock down after a character dies. So you have 3 slots, slot 1 you got your nvg. Slot 2 you play and die, 24-48 hours lock down for this slot. Slot 3 you die also 24-48 lock down. Now you are forced to play slot 1, if you die with him slot 2 will be unlocked (the slot with less time will be unlocked). Maybe that would prevent the keeping of nvg etc. and if a player really wanst to keep it he will probably anyway. If you got a really really rare weapon I can imagine that people will sell it on ebay or something. I bet there are some people who are willing to pay much money for a weapon which is like 0,0001% chance to obtain.

I forgive you. Unplayable is a better word, but now it is just wrong. It is not unplayable, it is just harder. You know, you are still in the internet. I could tell you everyone who knows me would confrim that I am the king of the world. Does it change anything? ;) In real life I would just peek out, risking that he shots me in the head. Why do you ask? -

Lack of body awareness and spatial awareness are not possible in a first person game. It just does not work out, even Call of Duty or Battlefield does not have this. But, I don't think that is necessery for a game, especially when the consequences of getting it would be exploiting. I don't think that body awareness and spatial awareness is the real problem in the game. It is the movement of the character, which is not very natural. It feels a bit like a tank in first person because: 1. When you move a bit, the character is making a big footstep, which is annoying if you are on a roof or something 2. when changing the direction with WASD it sometimes stops the character, it is not very fluid, this is something you especially realise in first person I agree, this is something which should be taken care of in standalone. I think peeking in DayZ is working very, very good. Better than in other games. Peeking around a corner is perfect and with the new system in the SA peeking over objects will be way easier to, because of the more stances. I am not sure what you mean with "you do not have to see someone walking behind you to detect their presence". Do you see someone in real life if you can't see him? No, you do hear him, which is working in Arma 2 perfect. I have to remember, if someone is very skilled in sneaking he is able to sneak up right behind you and you will probably notice it after your throat is cut. This is something which works in DayZ very good in my opinion. Yes you are right, in the end it is just what you prefer. Third person is for you a better gameplay style, it is easier but on the other side it kills much of the immersion. First person is a better expirience in DayZ sense, but it can be harder to play. I hope there will be some first person servers in the standalone which are well visited, probably not, but I will play DayZ no matter what. I never said everyone wants that, but I never have seen anyone in the game who roleplayed, not even on youtube. Roleplaying would be what JackFrags did here: All of this is scripted though. Jack and his friend do not role play, just the other guys. It was especially made for the video. People pretend to be in the apocalypse. You decribed not real role playing. Being bandit, hero or a massmurderer is something you choose. These roles though are very similar to the ones existing in real life. For example being a police officer is a role and also being a father is a role. One man can be both, his behaviour is depending on the situations he is in. He got these roles, which every single human on this earth has. I was explaining to you why DayZ is no roleplaying game to me, it is simply because it was never about roleplaying. You can roleplay in every single game on this world, but that is not the point in every single game in the world. Just because you role play, it does not mean it is a role playing game. Like I said, I never expirienced someone who played a real role, the only thing the people change is the behaviour. Exactly like you said, a bandit is behaving other from a hero. It is something you choose to do, it is more a playstyle than a role. And what I wrote was not about first person or third person, it was just what I think DayZ is, the first survival simulation ever made. Yes the perfect example how my mind works. Man, you are a genius or something. You should study psychology, maybe you get a nobel price. You said "first person is unrealistic". If this was not about "more realistic than third person", then this statemant was totally unnessery. I mean, what is your logic here? Everything is unrealistic. The shooting is unrealistic, walking is unrealistic, picking up an object is unrealistic, opening a door is unrealistic, animations are unrealistic, the buildings are unrealistic, shooting is unrealistic. I don't know if you realised it, but this is a game, it will never be realistic in any way. So cut the crap with this "perfect example how your mind works", because I got the feeling that you just cannot hear another opinion. Always you try to get on the personal area, insult me as a person and you never stay on the topic. I bet you wouldn't do that we were face to face, but this is sadly the advantage of anonymity in the internet. -

Why is FPV more unrealistic than TPV? And what is so limited about the FPV? What would you like to have fixed? -

I think that DayZ is neither a horror game nor is it an adventure. For me DayZ is the first and the only survival simulation ever made. It is not about roleplaying, it is just about survival. This includes the human behaviour which is not a role you play, it is more like yourself that you represent in the game. You are not pretending to be someone else, for example when speaking to another survival. You don't say "Hi, I am Rick Johnston and I survived since two months...". You are not getting into a role and that it why it is no roleplaying game. The gameplay itself, the core of the gameplay is the human behaviour. You don't take some role, some thought up person, you just behave like a human being, whether it is good or bad. And all of this is survival, to be exact zombie survival. People act like they would probably in real life (I am not talking about the mod, which obviously failed due to lack of immersion and realism) or how they would like to act. The survival genre, which was invented by DayZ in my opinion, includes the realistic simulation of a survival scenario. This includes all aspects of a human being, which is represented by the acts he does. This survival genre is mostly about what you expirience in the game, to be honest, in my opinion it is 100% about what you expirience in the game. The unique situations and the unlimited variation of human behaviour is perfectly implemented. The key feature of this game, of this survival game, is that the human behaviour is the most important and essential part. It is about the human, how he reacts with other humans and what he is willing to do to survive, to help others etc. This is for me DayZ, you cannot put it into a genre. It is simply the first real (zombie) survival simulator and there is no single doubt about that. There was no other game which had the idea of realism and real unscripted human behaviour together in one concept. And exactly these two parts are very essential for a survival simulation, which is why there was never such a game before. The DayZ Mod turned into some kind of looting and killing game. There is no real survival aspect anymore and also the human behaviour is very limited due to lack of realism. This will hopefully change in the SA. -

If learning medicin is a skill system, then everything is a skill system. Shooting, looting, running, reloading, aiming... you get the point. There is no system with points, with learing medicin I mean learing it for real. Not the character in the game learns about the medicin, it is actually you who learns about it. If you know the medicin in real life you will also have an advantage in the game. And yes, I know there are skill system in many games. But DayZ is simply not a game for such a system. DayZ is something unique, it does not need to copie from other games because it is good as it is. There is no need for a skill system, it would just reduce the possibilities for playstyles. Dean is strictly against such a gameplay element in DayZ and I don't see that it will ever happen. DayZ is not mainly about accomplishing something, actually DayZ is about the expirience, it is about what you see and what you live through. This combined with an immersive gameplay is what makes DayZ so great. -

In my opinion the animations look pretty bad. It is probably because of the engine, it seems that it is not easy to get animations working decent. Anyway, the game is not about watching the animations, but more about having an immersive expirience. Isn't DayZ about your story? But, if you are in third person, does it really seem like your story, or maybe just the one of your character? -

@Mercules Sorry, but I won't even bother to read your text. You did exactly the same as before. Taking one sentence out of my argumentation and trying to see it as my main point. Let me do the same: No they don't. I think almost everything what Mercules wrote is already implemented: -limping -character in inventory -higher medicine The single sets of medical conditions are not implemented right now I think. But that is something pretty easy, so it should not take too long. And what he wrote about the skill system is, as far as I know, wrong. Dean especially said that they never want a skill system, the people should choose by themselfs to be what they want. A medic for example would learn the features of the medicines, where to find them etc. So no skills and no class system. The behaviour and playstyle of the player is defining his "class" and his "skills". This is something Dean said more than once. -

You cannot just pick one argument out of my post and then respond to it. A normal citizen who did not play egoshooters or watch military videos will not even think about a ghillie suit. There are too many things they have to concern about like: food, safety, food, weapons, food, food, food... Most people probably don't even know what a ghillie suit looks like or what it is. It is not as simple as you think. Like I said, you were playing paintball, you cannot compare this to any real life combat situation. The guys you played with were also amateurs I assume? Well, in a zombie survival scenario the amateurs will be wiped out at first. If there are some left they have to adapt very fast. They don't rush through a forest having fun and shooting with paint bullets. They fight for survival and you should never unterrastimate people who do that. You are totally right, break up your form. This is the most important part, but I bet you read exactly that in a book. 99% of human population don't know anything about "breaking up your form", it is simple but it is not obvious to everybody. And again, real combat is totally different from a game. What you do mainly is just observing your surroundings. I am pretty sure if the guys you played against were careful enough they would have seen you. It is not like you watch 2 mins and then move up. It is more like you observe 30 mins and then move up. In that time they are pretty much able to locate every amateur camo, if it is not very luckily made. Anyways, you had a camo which you prepared at home. In a combat situation where you have to get into cover and camo yourself within seconds or minutes I bet you would not be able to do it. Nobody walks around in a ghillie if he is not preparing for observation or combat. It is used for snipers or ambushes, but not for long distance walks. And as we all know, DayZ is kind of about long distance walks. But that was not the point in this discussion. Someone said he could not camo himself good because of first person, which is in my opinion not the case. You can camo really well and even in real life you are not always aware of being exposed. This is an issue that is not based on first person, but it gets solved by third person which is again, totally unrealistic.
