They didn't. It is just that they want to release the game sooner and somehow they think if Dean gets aware of them, saying they won't buy the game anymore, he would do it faster. As soon as the game is out they will buy it anyway. -
Agreed. I have no idea what positive effect this could have. But actually I think this is a real problem with the current DayZ generation, even for me. Almost all of us are used to side chat. People are talking, you see when a player dies etc. This however will disappear in the SA and I think that it will let us feel very lonely, if we do not play with others. Right now there is a communication between the players on a server. Even smalltalk takes away the whole depression of being alone. You have no idea about the other players. There could be a massmurder group running through electro, killing lots of players. But you wouldn't know about it until you actually see them. And even if there are none of these bandits, you don't know. Normally in DayZ there is always someone saying "Bandit group highly armend at x" or you see like 4 deathmessages at a time. But all of this is gone, so now you never know what is happening in chernogorsk.

DayZ Standalone release > birthday + christmas -
Well, as we all know zombies are kind of paradox. They are in most cases unauthentic, unlogical. I am not talking about them being unrealistic, because that does not matter. But there are questions that are kind of unexplained in many, many zombie movies/books/series. So I will go through some scenarios, I'll start with the virus: A] The virus does spread via smear infection, almost immediate turn into a zombie -> patient zero wouldn't be able to infect enough people, the virus would not spread far enough to secure a global infection --- B] The virus does spread via smear infection, days or even weeks until the turn -> humanity would very probably be able to contaminate the virus, the goverment would most likely stay stable --- C] The virus does spread via droplet infection, almost immediate turn into a zombie -> atleast 90% of mankind does turn within a very short time (a few days) into zombies, the probability that people do survive is very, very low -> people who are immune do never turn into zombies D] The virus does spread via droplet infection, days of even weeks until the turn -> global panic and chaos would occur, immune individuals would have time to prepare themselfs for the day zero -> people who are immune do never turn into zombies Now the zombie behaviour, we assume that the virus was able to infect most of human population: Zombies do eat other human beings A] -> not possible because people do turn immediatly, zombies will starve to death B] -> zombies will starve anyway, because at the time people turn into zombies, most of the human population would be infected already C] -> not possible because people do turn immediatly, zombies will starve to death D] -> zombies will starve anyway, because at the time people turn into zombies, most of the human population would be infected already Zombies kill each other A,B,C,D] -> zombies will extinct very fast Zombies do not eat other human beings A,B,C,D] -> zombies starve to death Looks bad for the zombies right? Well, but zombies are not that simple. Some of them do never starve to death, the others do not eat every human being. It depends on the creator. But how could we explain these things, not realistic but authentic? I always think of zombies as human beings controlled by a virus, a very complex virus. A virus that is so unique and "smart" that it is able to infect every human being on earth. (probably made by human) I prefer a virus that does spread via air. Every human that is not naturally immune to the virus will be infected and will turn into a zombies in a rather long period of time. But, as the virus gets into the human bodies it mutates again. It analyses the subject and "creates" a virus that is able to break every immune system of every human being on earth. However, the virus after mutation is not able to move via air. Maybe it is to heavy because it has to carry parts of the human DNA (I don't know). Anyway, this "new" virus is able to infect every human being within seconds. So if you get bite, the virus is able to infect your body so fast that you are a zombie in a few seconds or minutes. But the virus does not only take over the brain it actually changes the whole body of the host. Metabolism and other key parts of the human organism are "rewritten" so that the host is able to survive way longer without food or water. The zombies do nothing or maybe walk around until they see something living. Their organism is on "standby" to save energy. But as soon as they see a human they turn into "rage" mode and try to eat him. But, as the victim does turn very fast a single zombie is not able to eat it. When a person turns he changes his smell (or something like that) so other infected beings do not attack. Sure, the part with the extra virus is unnecessary, but I think vital for movies or series. It is always about the situation when someone is bitten and will turn in a few minutes. But in DayZ the people do not turn, they stay immune. I kind of like that because otherwise zombies were very, very dangerous. But I would love to see some of my friends turn into a zombies, so I had no other choice but to shoot them. It would be very dramaticly with a decent character system and less buggy and fast zombies. So what do you think guys? Is there something you would really like to see in the SA regarding the zombies, their behaviour or features? Note: this is a discussion, not a suggestion

[SA] Diet/Medicine system = dynamic trade/survivor value system
Wayze replied to TheOldManoftheNorth's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I want the game to be actually hard to find any food. If you find one can of beans you will be glad. If you have 4 you will be even happier. But having this and additionally a multivit system, it would kind of be like 100% that you are not able to have the right diet. If food is rare anyway, it is simply luck if you eat the right food or not, because you would eat any food. -
Playing in third person and waiting until you got the chance and then kill your pray from behind :D

Well, I think it should be hard to not starve and not hard to eat the right food... -

Guys, does someone know what the heck is going on with Dean? No reddit, almost zero tweets. Nothing... Is he on vacation or something? -
I don't think that there would be Special Operations Forces who contain anything. ^^
-
I actually want to hear your ideas of how a zombie infection could spread in DayZ. But thanks, I heard of world war z, but it kind of sounded unlogical. Will look into it though.

Firstly, DayZ is not about realism. Secondly, what the hell? Do you think a freakin' pidgeo is realistic? You know how hard it is to even catch one? I don't even want to talk about training them to do something you want. But even if you spend years training a pidgeo, do you think he would be able to find anyone? You can train him to fly to a certain spot, but not to a certain person (or do they have some awesome supernatural powers?), especially if they don't even know that person. No, that would be just unauthentic.
-
I don't think so. There would be stupid jokes everywhere.

Yes, sure there are these problems. But, as a player we are able to do EVERYTHING we want to. Everyone goes offline? What would you do in real life? Same situation, everyone goes to sleep and you are screwed. Make it like 20 min guarding teams, from different countries. If someone lifes in the US he can play through can play at EU night time. And if a community has like 300 members, they just have to deal with such things. Not easy at all, but as we all know, in real life it was even harder. And still, it works. I think many people could enjoy it, if there just were people who actually create such a thing. It is not easy, but possible. And I guarantee you, at some point in gaming history it will happen. And it will turn into a golden donkey.

No, the majority playing the mod will buy the SA, but they are not the majority of potentiall buyers. Many, many, many people stopped playing it because it is simply boring. It is, if you played it alot. These people play other games and as soon as they realise there is a SA out, they will probably buy it. Also, the Mod was a Mod and many people seeing it on youtube or elsewhere did not buy it because of the fact that is it very buggy and filled with hackers. Hell, even the installation was rocket science before it came on steam. The hype is over, long gone. But as soon as people play the SA a new hype will probably occur. Just imagine all those people watching Frankie, him introducing the SA, explaining how awesome it is, what you can do and most importantly that it is way cheaper in the beginning as in the end. Alone Frankie will cause thousands probably tens of thousand people to buy the SA. Even if they play it just a week or so. I don't know how it will look like in the future, but DayZ never had real advertisment like other games. It was just present in gamer communities lwithin youtube or forums. You cannot imagine how significant a TV spot or similar can be. There is a reason why people pay millions of dollars just to present their products for seconds in a tv spot. -
Provide some evidence? Don't be childish, you can see it for yourself.

Go study psychology. It is a human trait, which is caused by boredom or time pressure. It is no illness, actually it is very important for mankind. People have a limited amount of time in their lifes, especially in the early years people had to put it into good use. So next time you are getting unpatient, see it as a desire to put your life into best and most efficient use. See it as a motivator for going on and surviving in this harsh world because in the end, without boredom or unpatience, our world would not look nearly as futuristic as it does today. -

Has someone inside information? I know it's not rational, but for me it kind of seems like they are preparing the game for release or something. Maybe just my hope that's getting paranoid here... -
Yes, interesting fact: In the vietnam war they actually had M16s forced to use 3-shot or semi, because otherwise the soldiers wasted ammo when they paniced.

Bringing a sense of value to players which lose their loot.
Wayze replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
But if you want certain things you could need the skills of those people. Repairing your car or crafting some things for you. I think it would certainly improve player interaction. And players who play just to kill other won't enjoy the game. In SA you won't just find a weapon and go on player hunt. That was the mod. -
So what are you expecting if not KoS?
Wayze replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Long term, yes. Like I said the long term is for me no apocalypse. As soon as people build towns and behave like normal human with food etc, the apocalypse is over. -

Wayze replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is a big difference between playing DayZ alone and with some friends. With friend I don't give a sh*t if I die or not. But somehow when I play alone it is so intense that I sometimes have to concentrate just to stop my hands shaking. Love the expirience, but it's very hard for me to feel it again. Maybe because I played the game alot, but probably because there is nothing I can lose in the mod. -

Well, I don't agree with you. It depends on the scenario, if it was an extreme apocaylpse the people probably would act like in "The Road" (yes, best apocalypse movie ever made). In the beginning, people would help each other, sure. But as soon as the food gets limited, people will kill each other. The problem is, once you realise that there are people out there who just kill you on sight, you will be very, very careful about what you are doing. In such an scenario the bandit group has a way higher chance to survive. They go around and kill people. What are the others going to do? They are no bandits right? So why would they shot? Well, they have no other choice. Even if someone seems friendly, he could betray you as soon as you go to sleep. You can never know, and this is not a game. You don't have a second chance, you just have one life. If you make one mistake you are dead. End of story. I don't think that people would risk it to group up with random people. Either they have grouped up within the first view weeks and stay in that group. Or well, they are alone. But, there is always hope for some people who are friendly and surely there are. But I don't think that these people would survive as long as the bandits. The bandits have the advantage to do everything they want. They are able to say "Hey! I am starving and I have no weapon!". The friendly people will help him, sure otherwise they wouldn't be friendly. They help him, take him into the group. And well, the day after they are all dead and the bandit, one guy, has everything he wanted. Even if there are some survivors, they have expirienced what people are capable of and they will never do the same mistake again. From that moment, these people will never again be friendly to other human beings, because of what they have expirienced. That is why I think that most of the friendly groups would just be wiped out in a few years. At some point people will ofcourse build towns etc. But at that point the apocalypse is over, in my opinion.
