Give me one logical reason why gear destruction will delay KOS
Wayze replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is not the problem in my opinion. The problem is not the KoS but the reason for KoS. DayZ was a social experiment, player acted in ways they never acted before. It was very authentic. But even back these days DayZ had KoS. It was always present and in my opinion it was even worse in the beginning. But the real problem is the motivation behind KoS. Back the days it was fear, like it is supposed to be. It is not something that you can fix if you want an authentic game. This is what DayZ teached us, people do not want to risk their lifes for others. They kill each other because that way the chances of survival is higher (well atleast that is what they think). It was good that way. But today KoS is just fun. It has nothing to do with another player being a threat (in some cases yes but most of the annoying KoS is based on 12 years old who want to play BF with zombies). The player does kill another player just because otherwise it is boring. And this is very unauthentic, people in real life are very unlikely to do such things. I don't know why people complain about it. Obviously any DayZ mod out there (even DayZero) has nothing to do with a survival game. And obviously the SA will have these core elements implemented. And believe it or not, even the first DayZ mod in its original form did lack these core elements for an authentic survival game. But even then it worked quite well, so I have no worries that in the SA the real KoS mentality will be back and probably it will even increase due to the even higher fear of dying. -
Rocket said there will be super rate items in the standalone. Items that are so rare that just one person of thousands would obtain it. Now, lets be honest here. What would you do if you find such an item? Seriously, would you run around like a maniac, knowing that you will eventuall lose this item anyway. Knowing that you will never obtain this item again, would you really do this? I remember the first few days I played DayZ. The first time I got really good gear. I was so afraid that I kind of always stayed north where people do not play. I ran around in forests and just tried to survival. I got killed at some point and it was really shocking. Whatever I would have done, if I really wanted to keep this gear I would have have to just stop playing the game. And as there will be items in the SA that are really f*cking rare, I am not so sure if anybody would just run around with these. So what could a person in this position do? Buy a new account... There you go I got my super rare items locked forever, nobody ever will get it. Or... I sell it on ebay. What do you think would people pay for an item knowing that there are only like 10 in the world. Maybe even an item that is unique? What would people pay for this? Just look on youtube. Accounts for games, sold for more than ten thousand dollars. Single iItems in a MMO that are very hard to obtain for hundrets of dollars. However, these items are just hard to obtain, if a person is willing to do they can do it with a certain amount of time. But in DayZ, no matter how much time you invest, even after 1000h of playtime you still would be searching this single item. Guys, I think people will pay a lot of money for these things. And probably you think that in DayZ you can lose the items at any moment and if you have them you wouldn't use them anyway. But I know people who are like that. They don't buy these things to be good in the game, they just want to have something unique. I know a guy who paid thousands of dollars for a metin2 account, it was the best character in the game (in a certain instance, because there are more than just worlds so being the best character does not mean being the best character in the whole game). But, he was not playing with it. He had it and was satisfied that he was the best player on the server for some time. So, what do you think? Will people trade accounts or items for real money in DayZ? I even heard of an incident where a guy stole an item from another guy in a game. The item was worth hundrets of dollars and he contacted the police. There was a real investigation and he got his money (or the item I dunno) it even was in the TV. No matter if it is legal or not to sell these things, people will do it anyway. They did it and they always did. But in DayZ, if Dean really holds to what he promises it would be a whole new kind of value to an item.

Yep it is.
-
Giving the fans what they want is impossible, so I assume it is better to lie so that in the end everyone is happy. ;)
-
What? I thought this was a fact.
-
I know. But that was not the point. You don't need more than one person to work on such a thing. Dean and Ondrej themselfs said it would be no big deal. They said it was worked on almost 3 (?) weeks ago. Latest tweets the network bubble was not mentioned. Just a "last lap" and a "sprint". That is why I assume the network bubble is long ready, he is just getting the release ready, probably he does want it to be good (many peopel complained about many things so that is understandable). I really think, no matter what he says, he wants the first alpha release to be decent to have good reviews. Even if people know it is an alpha, if they are dissappointed they are going to say bad things about the game. A first impression is very important, even if the game is going to be super good, many people won't care anymore because of the first impression. As he said he would release the alpha if the performance issues are solved, the network bubble is either not finished, it does not work or he just lied (sounds hard but everyone does it) to us. Sure, you can say "he was not able to keeps his promise", but we don't live in barbie world so let us just call it a lie.

I really hope your view changes in the SA. Sure in the mod I totally agree with you, it is boring to shoot on sight just for fun. But what I hope the SA will cause is that we are really afraid of dying. Lets be honest, in the mod you have nothing to lose. Even if you have the best weapon ingame you know it's very easy to find that weapon again and if not you will find another weapon that is almost as good as the one before. And you character? Who cares? He is nothing special, looks like everyone else and besides some cans of beans there is even no difference between the things you and the later you will carry. That is why I want a character developement of any kind in the game. I don't want people do be like "Ha! I don't give a shit if I die I just want some cool expiriences" because nobody would ever do that in real life. I don't want people to run around calling "Are you frienldy? Let's play together man!". I want them to be like "Don't come near me you f*cking piece of sh*t or I'll shot you in the f*cking head!". And I don't want them to do this because it is fun but because they are actually afraid that the other one is going to kill them. I want people to be paranoid, I want being friends in that game to be something special. In DayZ Mod you just trust anybody or you don't. Who gives a sh*t? But I want the game to be that hard and frustrating that you either are not able to trust the guy or you are so f*cking desperate that you have no other choice but to trust him. I want people to group up because they have to unless they do not want to die. I want people to kill each other out of fear. I want bandits who hunt other people. I want a survival game, not a f*cking "funny expirience". This is very important to me and if the SA is not able to cause that logical and most authentic fear, the fear of dying and not just losing your gear, then I will be probably a bit dissappointed. Ask yourself, what is more important? Your life or some weapons you carry? Why do you even carry these weapons? In the mod life is worth nothing. And what do you carry the weapons for? It's not to protect your life, actually you live to have these weapons. You live to be able to kill other things, wether its some zeds or another player. If there is character development in the game you will hopefully not fight because it's fun, but you will fight because you don't want your character to die. You are willing to give a bandit everything even the last ammuntion in your backpack just to survive. But that's just my opinion... -
I am pretty sure the network bubble is finished. There is no necessary zombie AI, Dean said he would not delay the game for anything but performance issues. So there are three options here: A) The network bubble is still not finished B) The network bubble does not work C) Dean lied to us A) is highly unlikely and I hope B) is not the case. So the best would be C)...

Sure, a lot of people won't even think about it. I was not talking about these people. I was talking about people who want to earn hundrets of dollars just by playing a game and the people who are willing to buy something for thousands of dollars just to have it.
-
Like I said, these things happen here in my country and people call the police. It's the same as if someone steals your real sh*t. Besides that, nobody would go around like "Hey meet me on server ..." they would be like "I sell my account for 500$" on ebay. They don't sell the item, they sell the account. That's how it is often done anyway.

I don't believe you. But, I believe that you believe yourself what you wrote. If NVGs were like you said 3 times on all servers then it would be like winning in the lottery. You know exactly that he will shoot you on sight because he has nothing as valuable as these NVGs. An in fact he never will have ever again such a valuable thing is his hands (probably). Do you really think that he would hand you over an item that is probably worth hundrets or maybe even thousands of real dollars? No way. He would do anything but giving you the NVGs. It's like you would hand over another guy 1.000.000 dollars just because he says "If you don't do it I will punch you in the face!". And what you just did the "demanding" him to give the NVG's is like "Let me kill you or I'll kill you!" because the value of his character is simply nothing compared to the value of these goggles. Sure, much more interesting, but not very authentic. -

And what would you do? Go nicely to him and ask him if he gives you the NVGs? A guy with NVGs that are that rare would never trust anybody if he isn't a total retard. He would shoot on sight because he knows that everyone even if they seem friendly to him will kill him eventually if they go the chance. If I see a person with NVGs that I would probably never see again, I just shoot him in his f*cking balls until he dies. If the NVGs are broken, well that's a pitty. But if I let him run he will either kill me or just run away. I won't see these NVGs anyway so why wouldn't I try shoot him? It is the only opportunity I probably ever get to wear these NVGs. Additionally I don't like if players got huge advantages over me, better a broken NVGs than a guy who is able to see me in the dark and kill me without a problem. And a broken NVGs is something very special, isn't it? I would be one of thousands that ever gets to hold a broken NVG in my hands! -
No offense, but is this a joke?^^

Why not?

Finally someone with perspective!

You are talking about the DayZ Mod, not the real DayZ. And the impression would be good don't you think? Most people like deathmatching, so that means Dean can make some money before he turns the game into hardcore survival again. :) And stop calling people trolls because you have another opinion, just shows how intolerant you are. Maybe you are right man, I have no idea either. I am not sure if Dean ever commented this. Zero was just my interpretation or something I have heard someday.

No, Wasteland is not DayZ without zombies. It is hardly DayZ Mod without zombies. I don't know how you feel about DayZ but for me it is a survival game. Does Wasteland have tons of deathmatching and even military objectives? Yep. And also important, can you buy weapons in DayZ? Nope. Can you do it in Wasteland? Yep. Are you able to scavange buildings for food etc in Wasteland? Not that I know of. Are there tons of vehicles and even military ones in the world? Yes. As you see for me Wasteland lacks the core features of DayZ, which are to me not the zombies but the survival aspect. Wasteland is simply deathmatch, is there even any other objective but to kill others? Also in DayZ there are teams, in DayZ one of the most essential part is that you are on your own or maybe in a group. It is about not knowing if the other guy is a bandit or not. In Wasteland there is your team, you can depend on them pretty much even if you never met them and there are the enemies. So no real player interaction, but deathmatch. DayZ is about your story, not the scripted military objectives that you have to secure.
-
Because I was the one who started it? xD
-
Again, no it's not even close to DayZ without zombies. And wtf? When did I ever say I don't like zombies?
-
Stop right there and read the whole conversation. I always used "core feature" as an element in a game that if it would miss the whole gameplay mechanics would change.
-
So, this is something I really want in the game. As you can see currently, Dean is talking about everything they implement. We are probably aware of every single item currently in the pre-alpha, which is of some value. But, I would love to see them (I mean not to see them ;) ) implementing items, zombies, animals or some other things that are very, very rare (not immersion breaking) and not meantioned by the developers. Something players find out by themselfs, rumors which go through the forums etc. Maybe even a doll which is like the rarest item in the game, but I also would like to see some valuable things that are unknown to everyone before finding it. Eastereggs: Additional to that, it would be also very cool if they would implement some special things on special days which are also very, very rare. For example, on halloween they implement something like a werewolf, you know something that is actually very immersion breaking but also awesome. Maybe 10 people of 100.000 would see that thing and this thing just exists on halloween. People would post screenshots with evidence and other people would not believe them calling the screenshots photoshop fakes. Of course Dean and the developers should never mentioun something like that. They would just implement it without anyone knowing about this. The problem would be probably that this ofc ourse is work. It costs money to create a werewolf or santa claus. But if DayZ is a success and if it was running for a year or something, I think that would be very cool and no problem for them. Atleast they could implement a UFO which flies by like once a year on a single random server. I mean once in a year, you could not call that immersion breaking. ;)

Day Zombie? I thought it means Day Zero, standing for the day of apocalypse. Sure there is a zombie on the cover, but it could be removed in notime. Besides that I think you got another understanding of "core feature" than I have.
-
Do you even realise how you try to give evidence for your opinion? But like I said so often, it is just your opinion wether or not zombies are a core feature. How do you want to prove it? What does "core feature" mean to you? Sure, you got some points, but in my opinion they are just wrong. It is your right to disagree with me the same as it is my right to disagree with you. However, I think you see all of this a facts. I think it is just our totally irrelevant opinions which have probably nothing to do with reality. No matter what you say, how much you think you are right, it will be an opinion as long as we are able to discuss it. And I get it, you think it's very important for the game, but I don't think so. I don't even think that DayZ is a zombie game but more a survival game. It doesn't need the zods to be a survival game (the only one on the market so far). But this is like I said over and over again, just my opinion. You don't have to agree, but it's pretty intolerant to think that your opinion is the only one right.
-
No.
-
If zombies were a core feature of DayZ, well nobody would play it. As you said yourself zombies in DayZ Mod are just poorly made, they are really bad. If zombies were very important for the gamers they simply wouldn't play it because the zombies in the game suck as*. Know what I mean? In DayZ Mod the "corefeature" is totally broken, but still people play it. So, maybe that means that it is no corefeature? We never gonna know, unless we actually test it out. And as I said so often, why not? Maybe a week or two the DayZ alpha could be without zombies, would it hurt somebody? No? If people don't play it, it means that zombies are very essential, if they play it it means they never were. But anyway, zombies will be implemented if they are ready. Don't know where the problem is, if you don't like DayZ without zeds then you can just wait.
