why i wouldn't make it through the zombie apocalypse in real life
Wayze replied to Gwraspe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not seeing the next season of Attack on Titan? Not seeing the next season of Game of Thrones? Not playing Metal Gear Solid 5? Never knowing how Big Boss became Big Boss? Never seeing the second Avatar movie? Never seeing the Hobbit 2 and 3? Never playing the DayZ Standalone?!?! There would be no sense in life... a bullet would be the only solution. -
Who said different? Who said that a survivor has to wait until he shots? Who said that KoS is no proper survival technique? In my opinion KoS is legit. But people who KoS just for fun won't enjoy the game. I think DayZ SA will change the game. People who kill for fun won't enjoy it because they won't find any weapons. This is not something Map switching will solve, this is a key element to DayZ SA. If you find a makarov you will be as lucky as finding a Heli + AS50 on one spot in the vanilla DayZ. On map two finding a makarov will be like finding a spaceship in DayZ mod. And finding ammo? Well, you can call yourself the luckiest man ever if you even have two full mags. I really hope this will be the case in the SA, that it will be a proper survival game and that people who KoS for fun won't even be able to do it because of the lack of ammo. If you get to map 5, you will have no ammo left. Finding a mag will be as likely as getting hit by a plane. You won't run around like a maniac, the constant thing you will have to do is finding food, escaping zombies and avoiding players. @Rossums I do not want to increase the difficulty, I just want a proper survival game. The most important part for a game, to be a survival game, is having character value. You play to survive, you use weapons to survive, you do everything to survive. In DayZ it is the other way around. You kill to keep your weapons, you survive to keep your weapons. Your life is just an excuse to kill other players. Like I said so many times, why do you even play DayZ? Is it really to survive? No f*cking way, if it was the case you would just run around with a coke and beans and hide in the woods. You get yourself some weapons. But why? You don't need them to survive, you just need them to have fun. To kill bandits or survivors. To kill zombies. DayZ fails in being authentic even in it's core part. If like you said there would be an area in DayZ that is "hard", well... and? I don't care if I die.. why would I? I just could go over there again. 20 minutes and I am back again. I want to fear for my characters life, I want to fear that something is lost that I never am going to have again. Sure it would be way easier to implement a character development system, but as people don't give a sh*t about it, I thought maybe some maps would change it. I just want the game to have player interactions similar to a real life scenario. I want to put my weapon down if a bandit stands behind me. I want to be as feared that I don't even look at him. Maybe he is carrying a banana? Well, I don't know. I don't want to risk it. I will just do what he says, so I have a chance to survive. In DayZ as you know it you would just be like "F*ck it if he takes my weapon I could respawn and there would be no difference" *peng* *peng* -immersion dead-. And I don't want to play it. I don't won't to be like "Hmm he is a bandit and I am a dude walking around in a city, what would I do if it was real life? Hm, probably I will give up..." I want to be like "Holy f*cking sh*t what the f*ck am I supposed to do?!" *hands shaking/pulse 170* The problem, if the gear is everything I can lose, then whatever the other guy will do, even if it is a whole group of bandits, I will try to kill them all. Why would I give up and give them all my weapons? What difference is there to death? This is a huge problem in DayZ, in my opinion the by far biggest problem. I don't know if Dean has a genius idea for that (he said they are working on it), but if that does not change, I will be kind of disappointed.
-
Hey, I took your idea and kind of formend it into a new one! I hope you don't mind. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/150047-sa-map-switching-survival-end-game/ Gave you credits. ^^

No I don't think that it would be smarter. The Arma Engine is not made for Zombie Survival games, it just does not work. They have spend a year to to rewrite an engine, they would have to do this with the Arma 3 engine which would probably take even longer. Additionally to that it wouldn't be anymore an Arma 3 expansion because it would not work with Arma 3.

Sounds like a normal day in DayZ.

Cannibalism in Dayz Standalone
Wayze replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That is the problem with DayZ and I don't know how often I said that but it just is an issue. The life of a character is just worth nothing. This causes the behaviour of players to be very unauthentic and deathmatch like. No matter how long you survived, if you die you lost nothing but your gear. What if someone wants to rob you? Will you give him your best weapon? Ofcourse not you just die, there is nothing to it if you cannot lose anything. Hopefully that will change in SA, with some sort of character system... I want the game to be a survival game finally and not some "Ah, it's better to die than to lose my humanity, I mean wtf? Why would I do it?" Well in RL the simple answere is "To survive" in DayZ there is no answere because you don't need to survive. Survival is not a core element and it never was, because why would you bother to survive if your life is worth sh*t? -
My and your reason to Kill on Sight (KoS)
Wayze replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I remember the time when I destroyed every heli I found just to make sure that nobody finds my tent/car. And yes I kill other players because I do not want them to kill me. If it is face to face and I have much to lose, well then the last man standing survives... -
I do not want to offend you and it is kind of offtopic again. But the fact that you feel sorry for others, but actually you count yourself as similar, can indicate a sort of self-pity. Maybe the others or the "group" is just a metaphor for yourself and in truth you are the one who wants to go to the park, see a movie, got to sleep and wake up and go to the park again. I am not sure, but even if it is true I don't think you will like what you hear. If I offended you I am sorry, no harm intended. Actually, it could also be a sign of depression, feeling sorry for others who indeed do not need the help. Feeling sorry for people who are actually happy. If you would feel sorry for a starving 6 year old child that lives in Africa that would be another topic. But like I said feeling sorry for people who do not show any sign of unhappyness is probably an assumption you came up with by own expiriences. I can tell you, not everyone who is registiered in a forum is a unhappy. We have a hobby like other people have, we even show enough interest that we sign up here to talk to each other. This does not mean that we do not enjoy life and as long as we do that everything is good. Even if some of us are total nerds and are never going in the park, if they enjoy life why would you feel sorry for them? They are different from you, that's all.

But sadly the majority will do that. And even if you will do it, you will never fear for your life. It always will be roleplaying. All the survival elements are just roleplay element in DayZ. It simply is no survival game because a life is worth sh*t.

Is it a hacker that killed you when your blood remains at 12000
Wayze replied to Xonicor's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Amen... just amen. -
Like many other cool ideas this will sadly not work without a character value system. If I have my hand cut off I just kill myself... the loot hidden somewhere or hold by a friend.

Reward for staying alive for a long time (instinct)
Wayze replied to IrishHugo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The value is even more important. Because if there is no value, you can simply respawn. Kill yourself. If the game is too hard why should you go on? If you survived 10 days but you have no ammo there is no point in living. Kill youself and you maybe even get a good spawn. If you have a friend and you play with him and after a while you die, he will no kill himself to spawn near you because he has something to lose. Very important in my opinion. Me for example I feel totally save if playing with a friend, no adrenalin at all. But if I know that if he dies or I get killed, we will have to find each other again which can take a long time. This is all what DayZ was about for me, the fear of dying. If you don't have a value to a characters life a hard concept would just result in total deathmatch. Why would you even try to survive? Just respawn until you find a weapon and then kill other players, because there is simply nothing else to do. Your character is absolutly worthless and he will always be absolutly worthless. If you don't have a value, you don't need to call the game a survival game, because your life is worth nothing. -
... please.

If I may, I would like to give you an advise. I don't want to offend you or critise your ways of handling your role as a moderator. But, I think it would be quite nice if you could invest some time for solving these heated discussions. Nobody is really expecting that from you because I am sure that as a moderator you have enough things to do. But if you tell people "Be civil!" it won't change much. Probably the people will just ignore you or they just stop talking to each other. They won't be like "Wow, he is right I have to behave civil right now" because that is not how people work. Like I said, try to see it from their point of view. Try to solve the problem by making the person understand and not by commanding him to do something. In my opinion it is the wrong way to teach, the easy way. If a teenage does something wrong and you tell him "Stop it or I'll take away your mobile phone!" he will maybe stop, but he will still think that he was right. My parents did that with me, all the time. And it took a long time to actually realise why my behaviour is not acceptable. Be reasonable, tell the person that he is right, that you understand him. That you know why he is being offensive against another person. But also tell him why it was wrong, why it is better to not do so. If you do it right you have a high chance to actually teach the other person something. You have to get the other person to reflect himself. To make him realise the situation. Not an easy task, but you can actually improve the forums if you do so. And you can even change a persons whole life, because sometimes it just needs a simple conversation to turn a person into something totally different. You have the power to effect a life. Actually every single conversation you will have in your life, no matter how unimportant it seems, one of these conversations or probably all of them effected your life in a way you could not even imagine, kind of like the chaos theory, an apperently insignificant event can cause a very significant difference. Being an astronaut or a thief. One conversation can make that difference. Edit: Sorry, did not read your post before posting mine. I will stop with offtopic right now.
-
I am not quite sure what you mean by that. And if my post is offtopic just tell me I will stop, because I kind of fear that someone is going to be punished soon. ^^
-
Nobody insulted anyone here, as far as I know. Just an misunderstanding, I hope my post was not for nothing.
-
Really? I have to researched this, I always thought people would like fall down after a single shot. ^^ But, I think the NATO-Caliber is designed to not kill a person but to hurt them. A part of psychological warfare (not sure if it was psychological warfare but something like that), you do not want to kill another person but to hurt him to actually make his comrads help him. This way more soldiers of the enemy side are not able to fight, which results in higher combat effectiveness. Pistoles on the other hand are, as far as I know, supposed to stop a threat. For example a guy holding a weapon. I want him to be not able to fight after I shot him. However that is just my amatuer knowladge I don't even know if it is true. I got to research it I guess. The rest I can agree with you. But I really don't think (or maybe hope) that pistole ammo will be not rare. I think it will be like: Half a mag of assault ammo as rare as a AS50 in vanilla DayZ. A mag of pistole even rarer than a DMR in vanilla DayZ.
-
Alright, then I disagree. I really don't like the way it is now. If you shoot someone in the stomache he will most likely die without treatment and he surely won't stand on two feet after a single shot. There is just no way, atleast I have never heard of something like that. One shot you lie on the ground. In DayZ: 5 shots you run like a maniac. In my opinion many cool gameplay mechanics get lost by that. Additionally pistoles in the SA will be pretty useless, because ammo is very, very rare.

(Oh my f*cking god I hate myself I just wrote a full comment and clicked the f*cking "Return Page" buttom on my keyboard and now I have to write it all over again!! I will keep it short.) I did not insult you. My questions were honest and they could have been easily answered. I admin it was not all your fault that you misunderstood my comment. This is a problem with communication over the internet. What you actually read depends on how you read it. If you would have read my comment neutrally, it would have been just some questions. But you are probably used to people who use the anonymity for an excuse to be rude to other people. I get that and it is not your fault. But I want to give you an advise (sounds kind of arrogant but it's not!). Especially in forums people tend to be rude. Obviously... But many arguments and "fights" in the digital world are caused by simple misinterpretation. As people are focused on their own point of view, they read everything what another person writes as an offensive move against their opinion. The kind of ironic thing is that if people could communicate in a non-misinterpretational (wtf) way they would probably agree with each other in most of the cases. What you think is right, is very probably also the right thing to me. However, it is very hard to really understand the meaning of a post without being able to read the other persons mind. You are not able to do that. But here is my advise: Always try to interpretate the post as positive as possible. If there is nothing obviously offensive (hell even if!) in a post just read it as if it was a friendly post from your best friend. Why not? What will happen to you if you do that? It will spare you much stress, many fights and surely you will show the other person that you do not intend to fight him. I mean, why do we fight so much in this forum? Why do people seem so arrogant and so ignorant? I really don't think they are, it is like I said a problem humans always had. Ironicly enough people kill each other for minor differences in real life. Just take religion as an example. There were thousands of civilisation developing totally independend from each other. As soon as these civilisation interacted with each other they were like: "You monsters! Your god has no beard?! We will kill you all!" Sure, this was exaggerated. But my question is, why do people kill each other for the minor differences in their culture, if they could celebrate the huge similarities? So many cultures, all of them believe in gods. Isn't that a positive thing? Same here. We all love DayZ. We played it for hours and enjoy it. Why do we hate each other for the different opinions we have? We all play the game, why do we care if someone hates 3rd person or loves it? It is just an opinion and it will always be one. You have to realise that whatever you write and whatever you think a person is saying, whatever another person is actually writing to you and however it seems to you, it is always is understandable from the other point of view. You have to realise a person is actually never really wrong. The person just has another point of view. And just try to understand this point of view, maybe you can even try to make the other person understand you, by telling him in a non offensive and understandable way. Let's be extreme here. Hilter! He was only a person. Only one human being. He was able to cause the death of millions. Why? Well, he had his reasons. From his point of view whatever he did what right. If he would stand infront of you, right now, what would you tell him? How would you try to convince him that what he did was wrong? How could you ever manage that? The only way to make him understand is to first understand his point of view. To know what he feels and why he does what he does. Well that is impossible because he is an individual and if you could feel what he feels you would most likely be him. But however, people can try and if they would have tried.. if a person noticed the point of view of Adolf Hilter before he actually got a fanatic psychopath, if the person was able to understand him, this person maybe could have saved the lifes of millions. This was like I said a very extreme example and ofcourse nobody can be blamed for not preventing what happend. Always remember that if you were in the situation another person is, if you were that person, you would have acted exactly the same as the person did. So, if I were you I would have felt offended, but if you were me you would write exactly the same as I do right now. All of this is very philosphical. But however just try to understand another person. Do not see another person as an idiot just because he has another opinion. Try to understand his opinion, that way you maybe realise that his opinion is actually identical to yours. No matter what you think of me or what I think of you. If I met you on the streets and if we would have a conversation we would probably think very positive of each other. You know why? Because we have a similar hobby and ofcourse because I am awesome... Perfect example. This "because I am awesome" can be interpretated as a very arrogant way to describe myself, but it can be also interpretated as a simple joke. It is for you to decide. You will reach nothing by blaming other people, by accusing them, by insulting them. And ofcourse you can decide if you feel insulted, if you just take all of this in a non personal perspective and if you try to understand the other and if you do not see them as eneminies but as people with similar ideas as yours, well then you can have a very good time here. Holy crap if you read my post, respect... I kind of agree but I am not sure if I understood you correctly. In the SA ammo will be rare, so I guess you also think that shots should be way more deadly? And yes I agree that if hit in certain areas it should have different effects. But if I take a makarov and shoot someone from 5m distance 5 times in the stomache and he still stands like a candle, well then it seems freakin weird to me. But actually I did not want to discuss these things. I wanted to know if someone actually knows anything about how it will be in the SA, because Dean someday said a single bullet will have much more effect than in the current DayZ.
-
So where is the place to discuss it? What is this place for? And why should I open a new thread just for a simple question? And additionally this is no suggestion but a request for somebody who actually has intel about the situation.
-
Half a year ago or so Dean said on reddit that gunshots would actually be way more deadly than in Arma 2. He said something about that even on shot will very probably cause unconsciousness. So my question is: Will pistoles be almost as deadly as assault rifles? Because in my opinion the should be. In Arma it is so ridicilous, you shot someone 5 times with a makarov and he still is running around as if nothing happend. In my opinion he should be on the ground after the first shot. Has someone information regarding this?

[SA] Simple mechanic for stopping one form of 'ghosting'
Wayze replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
People with a bad ping will have a hard life. If a server is laggy they always would have to wait 15 minutes to switch to another one. But actually that would prevent server looting (however you call it), too. Maybe 15 minutes are too much but it would be pretty simple. On the other side there would be probably some innocent casualities. -
Reward for staying alive for a long time (instinct)
Wayze replied to IrishHugo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No idea what you are talking about to be honest. Probably my bad english here. Anyways, I'll try to respond. Why are you talking about roles? It's not like you are born with a role, you choose what role you have. You don't have to be a surgeon if you don't want to and even if you are it does not mean that you only do that. In real life that would be absolute nonsense. Nobody would just specify in one thing. It is a survival scenario. You have to be able to handle a gun etc. the more things you are able to do the more chances of survival you have. It's just a game and it always stays a game. Character value is not the value others have for your life but the value for you. KoS is nothing bad, if you want to survive well then you can KoS that is for you to decide. This is a whole other subject matter. I am talking about the problem that a character is worth sh*t. The only thing that is worth something is loot. Sure there are always people who just want to kill others, but this number will probably decrease so much that these guys will kind of get authentic because they will be the crazy guys. The people who go nuts. Why will the number decrease? Because people who just want to kill others in the game won't enjoy it much. Why? Because they won't even have the weapons to do so. Why? Because weapons and ammo are f*cking are. Additionally to that people do have to actually survive. Not like in the mod where you got 2 cans of beans and 2 colas and you are good to go for manhunt. In the SA (hopefully) you will have the constant pressure of survival. People who just want to run around and kill others will feel annoyed because they actually have to care for other things. -
[SA] Simple mechanic for stopping one form of 'ghosting'
Wayze replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why so complicated guys? Simple: - Player joins server A - Player leaves server A - Player joins server B -> Server A locks player from the server for a certain period of time - Player leaves server B -> Player has to wait a certain period of time until he is able to join server A That way nobody is able to complain about being kicked from the game or anything else. Everyone is happy besides the people who actually server hop or the very, very, very low percentage of players who join a server, leave the server, join a new server, leave the new server and then within a short period of time join first server. It will prevent most of the server hopping. And additionally Dean has already mentioned that if you leave a server your character will stay on that server for a certain time. Server hoppers will risk their lifes by doing so. -
Reward for staying alive for a long time (instinct)
Wayze replied to IrishHugo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Obviously we have to do something against this problem. No matter how we solve it, it is one of the top priorities for the SA. How do we make the life of a character valuable? The easiest and most authentic way is just to implement a character development system (like suggested so often in this forum). When a character does things he learns. The more he does a thing the better he gets in this subject matter. This is not only logical, realistic and authentic but it is also would be a very elementary core feature. Without this a characters life is worth zero. Nothing. No matter how long you survive the only thing that keeps you alive is the loot you carry. As soon as you don't have any loot you can just die, because there is simply no difference between the character you have now and you will have later. As soon as you develope you character in any form it will be valuable. The thing is to find out what to develope. Will it be essential things like repairing a car or just some useless attributtes like running a bit faster? This has to be balanced and the alpha is perfect for doing so. Without this core element, a character value, the game lacks in many different gameplay aspects and gets very, very unauthentic. The social experiment fails. Why? Because what would you do if a bandit group surrounds you and forced you to give them your weapons? Would you do it in real life? Ofcourse you would! Would you do it in DayZ? Nope, why would you? If you give them the weapon you have nothing left, so it is better to kill some of these guys even if you have no chance for survival. This is just an example, but many social interaction just fails because of the lack of character value. People in the game do not live because they want to survive, but because they want to have good loot. And this is in my opinion the wrong direction DayZ goes. I don't want to be afraid to lose my gear, my weapon or my ammo. I want to be afraid that my character dies. This is after all the reason why I carry the weapons, the gear and the ammo, isn't it? I need them to survive but in DayZ at the moment I do not do that to survive. And this is a very big problem. You wonder about KoS, about people killing each other for fun. But in the end ask yourself why do you even carry the weapons you carry? Why do you search for high military loot? Why? It is not to survive but in the end it is always to kill other players. The difference between you and a bandit is that you do not shoot first, but you shoot the bandits. Without the bandits you simply have nothing to do. The game would be totally boring. Why is that? Because everything you do in the game, every single pile of loot you carry is just to eliminate other players, wether they are evil or good. There is simply no other reason for playing the game because surviving is totally useless. You don't need to survive because you can respawn. The only thing you lose is the gear, the gear you need to kill other players.
