Well, guns DO break. If the hammer is worn out, the gun won't shoot (for example). Tons of bits that need replacement, and many rusty/worn out bits can cause permanent uselessness of a gun. If you can't replace them, then it's bad. It is hypothesised that in case of a worldwide catastrophe of that type, the first to go would actually be the Policemen, and Military, and medical personel. Why? They are all called to the rescue, and therefore, well... die first. They are the ones in contact with the "Threat". With results like the bodies in NWAF and crashed Humvies all around the place. When civvies just flee, the soldier/cop is ordered to face the threat. Oops. True about a lot of the ammo already being used up. Well, there is no point in having more guns if you don't have ammo for them. "Travel light" is a rule of thumb really.

I'm around 22 days or something. That life started by meeting a friend that was keeping my last body warm (Died to a glitch on a slope). I had a DMR, M1911, knife, hatchet, map, rangefinder, some medical stuff, and we had a tent with an LMG and lots of supplies + a van. The group plit so I turned lonewolf. Found two small camps with lots of stuff in tents (but didn't seem hacked in). Emptied everything and put them in my own tent, and just told friends I don't play with to loot that tent. Found a NVG, a gilie and a Kobra in those tents (+ all the stuff I left in the other. Bizon and many other guns). Did several raids in NEAF and kashimiro. One of the raids was bad, and I got shot, but not killed, by automatic fire (Dusk). I think it was a hopper since I never found the guy for payback, and I healed myself with meat. Someone asked for medical assistance near the three valleys, healed him with a bloodbag, got a M9SD. Never found ammo for it so just threw it to the bind a few days later. On a suicide attempt, I went to cherno to take out some snipers. Found none, but sniped zombies chasing several guys, nearly hitting one of the players. At that time I had a AS50 I thin I found at a crashsite, but I can't remember. I went into town, and found an ACOG, so I dumped the sniper. Wen to the coast, found a ship, filled it with a bit of fuel, and went to explore the island south-east of the map. Nothing interesting, went back to the coast. I then proceeded in raiding all castles for a bit of sightseeing. Kept a few guys in my sights passing by, never shot any. Then went for NWAF at night, and ended up meeting a group raid of 6 guys in run and gun mode. Impressive to see hat at night: The guys just ran, kneeled and shot zombies as they spawned. I hid in time and thanks to my clothing wasn't found out, I then bailed out in the opposite direction. Since then, I've looked all around the north-west of the map to find camps or vehicles, with no results. I'm currently planning a raid for the Green Mountain.
-
It would make thing a bit harder, yes, even though a bit simpler due to the absence of heavy snipers along the coast.
-
Hacked, but damn cool one. Enjoy as long as you have ammo.

Found my first legit map!
Deuzerre replied to A Bush killed me's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've got everything I need but two things: A GPS (been looking for some lousy snipers in cherno to kill but found none) and a silenced weapon. The only silenced I found were a Bizon in a raided tent, and a M9SD I never found ammo for thanks to a friend (thing stayed in my backpack for ages before I threw it away). First map was a blast though. And it was in cherno at night, wit gunshots all around. -
Oh, that's good news, sort of. it really depends on how He wants it to be implemented. Get my beans :beans:, though I don't think there should be a 0% change. A cap to 0.01%, maybe, but not true -nil-

I read your old post carefully. Maybe it's you who should have expressed youself better? :emptycan: I know what area accuracy is. It's just you seemed to say that it was something that's done like a piece of cake. With 5.56 rounds, 800m area shots are quite fun... Since they can't wound deeply. Anyway, back to the point. Might have been overzealous on that part. Since your post was slightly agressive to start with. And I'm "qualified expert" as you call it with FAMAS & PAMAS if you want to compare dick lengs. Though there is one thing you might not know the difference between, even though you have English as your mother tongue: There is a slight difference between "Hungry" and "Malnourished". Hungry is your body telling you it needs food. Malnourished means the body has had for a period of time deprivation of balanced and/or plentiful food. :beans: + :beans: + :beans: =/= What about making those .50 rifles work like the AT4? I mean, they remove the backpack in order to be carried. The Spawn rate of all semi automatics should still be inferior to the total of bolt action ones though. Right? Fair and true enough. I disagree a bit, but I see where you are coming from. ^_^ Lucky us, Rocket isn't the static kind of guy. Good enough for me. Their added spawn rate might not be "Huge" but it's still too big. Removing one (I'd vote for the M107) would be okay for me. I believe it's a half separated matter. Whenever you grab and keep a high value weapon, , and even more so in a group, the gun can eventually be counted as a +1 value. If everyone keeps the same category of weapons, while ignoring the others, whenever new loot spawns (and possibly the same gun) it's just an other +1, until "Everybody" has it but some fresh spawns (the others running to their friends). Even if the Makarov had a 50% chance of spawning everywhere, it wouldn't increase its number of owners as it's known to be rather bad, and is dumped at the first other pistol found. Better weapons though tend to just stack in numbers, and keep growing until a certain percentage of the population has them (Can't grow more except if people start to be all friendly). I'm pretty certain that, counting content in tents and vehicles, there are more automatic weapons & sniper rifles than there are player, even if you count a player double if you put a rifle in your backpack, even if you don't include cheat and bugs.

why only 1 chopper at a time?, the one with the chopper owns the server.

If there is a huey in the sky, I want my AA pick-up: -
For the fun of it. For variety. Because it's better to look at a pixelated girl ass in 3rd person view than a hairy backside. Things like that.

Male, play as female... Most of the time. Though this current life (the longest I have had up to now) has been male ... Since I knew I was going to find a Gillie suit.
-
Maybe. I'm not that good a shot, and I'm ex-footsoldier. You can't expect tired and badly fed people to just shoot like some people do with perfect conditions in their favour.
-
Actually.. I never mentioned in my posts that I wanted "Bad" effects with the weapon wear. I just want them to be so much scrap metal and plastic and wood when "broken". It would also help your approach, give you a goal to keep searching for good loot in good shape. I'm not against weapon getting slightly worse and having incidents the more worn they are though.

I was just wondering if the current "Hopper" running speed should be the Zed actual speed. To me, they seem fast enough so you can't lose them by running, slow enough so they don't reach the corners of their AI "Squares" movement areas too often, allowing correct aim and less "Hussein bolt + flaking" syndrome. If they all had that speed and a faster "Hit" animation (Because that's the only reason they don't currently hit you, and often stay quite a few meters behind after each of their miserable failed attempts, wouldn't it be better? I read somewhere that the new animations are born.
-
Yeah. they are actually so fast that in real life, they'd have muscle damage to the legs and end up unable to run anymore. Poor zombies... I'd love them to be a bit slower, and a bit faster in buildings (different from outdoor walkingaround animation).
-
Yes, but the weapons you own weren't found in a hangar/at a helicopter crash, aren't used outside under the rain with a big ambiant humidity. They are maintained and preserved. Part of my idea was to find some of the guns in already bad shape, and really going bad with use due to "poor treatment". A "new" AK barrel is supposed to shoot around 50K rounds (We'll never shoot that much) before being worn out and losing accuracy. The average M16 barrel lasts around 35K. A continuous usage (Full auto of several mags) can and often does heat the barrel to the point that it starts not shooting (perfectly) straight after it cooled down. I never asked for it to be as bad as in Farcry 2 (You'd believe the air was acidic... Ridiculous). Just that some guns start in bad shape, and get worn after usage and time. That way, a weapon going from hand to hand would end up in such a poor shape that there would be no reason to keep it, therefore decreasing the number of weapons "Naturally".

AK-74 Kobra. I love the sound, the looks, and the overall feel. I's such a shame they tuned down the damage for a moronic reason.

Humans are the enemy in DAYZ not the Zs
Deuzerre replied to Kingsix (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Next, in DayH, people will complain that "There is too much PvE?!?" Just trolling. -
Well, the Zeds aren't a challenge really. They are just annoying. If they chase you, you don't shoot at them, you just run to a building/hill to put a headshot when they walk. If they were slower (slightly) but more deadly when close, it could be interesting.

Ever shot a 50 cal? I haven't, but saw someone shooting one. He misplaced it and got severely wounded on the shoulder. I'd like to see you shoot that beast while crouched. Anyone below 100kg would just fall down, and to hit a target that way? Anyway, managing, with no scope, to down a target around 800m? Pics or didn't happen. Seriously, with 5.56 NATO, making that kind of shot?

Yes another "get rid of sniper guns" whine
Deuzerre replied to lnfighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As I said in an other thread... Sniping as we see it in competitions is basically well fed, rested and in good health people, in ideal situations, taking their shot. We play guys that arrived from the beach with no memory, eat cold cans of beans, drink water from lakes, and lack sleep. Also, sniping with .50 cal rifles while sanding or prone is damn easy in this game. Sniping overall is really easy in this game, mainly thanks to the fact that it has limitations, there is no wind, and the aim is impressibility stable. If sniping was harder, hackers wouldn't bother dumping those guns for the lulz. I really think snipers have a place in this game, but at least one of the .50 cal has to go. ________________ For the ones saying: IT'S A GAME!!! Well, as it's a game, I want the bolt thrower to throw explosive pink dildos, AK-74s to be incendiary, lazer beams and Mammoths as a creature to hunt for food. Also, aliens can hide in zombies and transform you into jelly by touch. The game is supposed to be a simulation, with the theoretically impossible aspect of Zombies (Infected) breakthrough. Basically, real life with ONE unnatural element to it: Zombies. The rest should be as close as possible in a game as can be. Sniping isn't, as is most of the shooting. Close, better than most games, but still not quite like it (Weapons that never jam... Oh my god do they jam IRL even when you're careful...) _____________________ Added note: Even though sniping rifles are military weapons, even along the military they are rare. There is no logical reason for there to be more than one military grade sniper rifle for each of the airfields. A plaethora of AKs, really few Kobras, absolutely no M16/M4... Those should only be at helo crash sites. -
The"y were cremated. Nah, I'm half serious. But if you look around, you'll see quite a few bodybags. it's a lot more creepy in my opinion.
-
Stangely enough, yeah. But it's a gues, it might just be god telling us "Now, you exist. Go survive, LOL!" thinking it's cool to start at Kamenka. My first language is French, so don't worry. A wholehearted thanks then! Thanks for the input. Why weren't you so keen on the other ideas, and why specifically OK with this one?
-
The only real problem with that would be the fact that progress would need to be really slow for that experience to "Sink in". If it's too fast, it's gamey. if it's too slow, it's not even worth it.

What area would you secure and make a base out of?
Deuzerre replied to lugaru's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The small castle of Zub, just south of Vyshnoye, has a closeby water supply, and a town to raid for food & a fuel tank. There is a steep hillside in the west that could be covered quite easily, and the rest is more or less open ground. Easy to set defences and see groups approaching, and quite easy to reach by vehicle. This one is head on my list. Stalisty Island (South east) could be interesting, but it's too far from ressources like water and food to keep a population. There would be a need for a smaller outpost in Kamyshovo for fuel for the boats, but it's too easy to shoot from the hills down on the town. The small castle of Rog (Just above Kamyshovo) could offer good enough protection, with a lake a klick down the hill. The mountain is steep enough for people to have trouble reaching it when not using the "Road", and there are a few observation posts, but it's surrounded by a forest so hard to see people approaching (though easy to get out of it, and unsnipable). It's possible to reach it with vehicles, so just a few tank traps should be enough to prevent too daring raids. Pusta has a water pump and no way to sneak on it with ease, and a counter sniper would be needed to cover the hill above. It's quite close from Cherno and Elektro hotsports though, meaing many people would probably be willing to take the risk of an assault. But then, they'd have to regroup, and that's cool. The castle in Black mountain is probably the best "Big" castle, quite close to a town with a market and the airstrip, but the closest reliable water supply is the dangerously empty area of Gvozdno with it's lake and realy open spaces. The view from the top tower is magnificent though. -
@ Scotty the engineer: The problem I see with the propositions is that if you play on a low population server, you have almost no chances to drop any "Good" loot, and tents. A fixed amount of tents per server would spread out the population a bit more evenly. But I feel it's a step in the right direction. @ Zarathustra: [btw, Nietzche, really?] 1. I just ask for an additional line for each weapon in the character's inventory, possibly rounded up to the closest 50 when a character just disconnects. It wouldn't affect server load much more than the difference between an inventory full of empty cans compared to an inventory filled with a few car wheels. Eventually, every magazine will have to be traked to prevent exploits, so just treating a gun as a magazine with a bigger number shouldn't be a problem. As for the high spawn rates, with my last life I ahve 0 player kills, and around 300 zed kills. A friend originally gave me a DMR I dumped somewhere, and apart from half of my current loot I took from an encampement (I promptly destroyed after stealing everything and stuffing them in one tent), the rest is Crash sites & deer stands. 3/4 crash sites, I find a FN FAL, and 1/2 I find either an AS or a M117. These are not duplicated, nor scripts, just regular raids. If I wanted to, I'd just have a dozen tents filled with those WMDs, but there is no point (I don't even have a tent right now, playing for the thrills). The life lengh of a weapon (especially if most weapons you find aren't in pristine health from the start) would really change the number of guns available all around. I think it's a possible solution, and duplitacting/scripting is a whole other matter, that this idea isn't here to solve. 2. Agreed. Maybe they could keep one of the two with lower ammunition available. But two of those mean there is more chance to find one of them easily. 3. I thought more of the recoil than the ream accuracy. Actually, Sway and recoil are the two real aspects that would affect a "Gun noob in bad health". The accuracy should be weapon dependant. There is one thing that shocks me in what you said though: You shouldn't ever use automatic (Only semi and burst) against players in range anyway. All guns have a semi mode. Use it. With a higher recoil, people would have to find ways to compensate, and sway would really change the chances of players that would otherwise pray and spray. Recoil always is the same, and sway doesn't change anything if the target is in the middle of the sights. @ Dickhat: Thanks, but I don't think that skill modifiers have a place (yet at least) in DayZ. i believe it's in Rocket's mind as said in an interview for characters to have a "Profession", but otherwise I think it's better to stick with "Generic dude/gal". I just want generac dude to be slightly less potent with guns. Mh, quite an elaborate answer. Go on, I was really interested in reading you comment, further development would sure be welcome since you seem to be able to make sentences that manage to include no verbs. Well done sir, you have my empty can.
