Game should be real time in my opinion.

It should be real time 24 hours in 24 hours, but you can choose to have -8 GMT like it used to be. That's what I was saying. Thx
So it wouldn't be night while it was night for you, that wouldn't work because of the obvious reason you thought you needed to enlighten us with.
You find the balance, -4 GMT or -8 or -2 whatever. I used to run vanilla hive servers in the mod and that's how it worked and they were all great.

  2. Game should be real time in my opinion. Just like the mod. You pick a server then that relates to your own timezone so that you play for the exact conditions you want. Servers used to say GMT+2 for example. You'd know what time it'd be ingame and could plan night raids.

  3. Another one who, like you, returns every few months to get my Cherno fix.

Same as you I have the same conversations with friends who all used to play it and now say it just needs to die.

But, I'm sure all those guys would love to revisit if/when it finally gets to a point where it works...... Maybe.

I just wish they'd add bicycles already. It would instantly bring a new element of [dareIsayit] fun to things. The current vehicles imo are pointless. I've never bothered to fix a car or truck as there is no reward from it after all the hard work. Maybe that's because I'm lone wolf and antisocial lol.

An ATV hunt used to be one of my big early game milestones back in the day. I'd love it if they put some of those back in.

Controls are being declunked-reclunked and fit in to suit a control pad aren't they? For consoles? Or is that just in my head?

I agree with Ninefingers, I actually prefer the zeds from the Mod still. Just stop them from glitch hitting through walls pls. But landing a headshot with a G17 on a zig zagging bloodthirsty mutha f*cker , that felt good. Putting down a pack of zombies with a pistol, saving your mates who were lagging or panicking lol that felt like you were a hero. Where as SA shooting still feels completely random in comparison. So it isn't satisfying at all, which is a huge shame.

There's so many good things they've done, the map and the buildings improvements. Just the gameplay that has to become far better.

  4. Used to be able to remove a particular PBO file from DayZ folder that would take the buildings away.

You could log in, quickly move to freedom and then logout before the server kicks you for not having the PBO file. Then put the file back in and reload the game and login and voila, you've escaped.

Not sure if it can still be done though or what file it was anymore, that would take some searching.

  5. Folk still come on the forum to whine about features that are still in the middle of development, huh?

Zombies in DayZ are more like the infected in 28 days later, by the way. Not either of those you mentioned.

*sigh* I still miss it though, and my survival buddies!

That's what it was for me! I missed some old buddies, and missed Chernarus as well. Revisiting has been good - nostalgic as well. First run round the NWAF I was very jittery!!

Can imagine the first time I finally hear a heli go overhead as well. That will bring back memories.

Had been so long since I'd been on I wanted to see where it was at and get back up to speed.

What're the biggest things coming in .63 that everybody's waiting for?

Just seen a clip about it, the bikes look goooood!!! Long awaited. I was at Gamescom, didn't get into the DayZ bit though. Queue was daft.

    Tinderbox:

Get a small empty can like a tobacco tin with a screw-down lid (so the lid is pretty airtight). Fill the can with a folded flat square of old cotton (an old torn bit of shirt) fill it up. Then screw the lid on and cook it - just put it on your burner till it smokes & get it good and hot -  but DONT melt the can. - Dont mind if some smoke comes out. Without air to burn in there the cotton eventually turns to punk charcoal and stays solid and folded. Let it cool completely without opening it. (!)

Try this once and you'll know just how long to cook it for next time, to get it right.  Costs nothing.
Now in the wild if you open your punk can and strike your ferrite spark into it - onto the pad stuffed there (you dont have to take it out.. na - nothing complicated - it just glows burning without flame) - You get a glowing red patch like a cigarette end, STRAIGHT AWAY  - the size of a fingernail - blow on it to keep it going if you want, but it wont usually go out wont go out until you close the can. wind etc just makes it glow more. This is so EASY I even used it to light cigarettes back when I smoked.

When you screw the lid back on the glowing part of the punk will totally go out by itself - you can shut the tin and put it right back in your pocket.
Now you can use that one pad of cooked-burned-black cotton a few thousand times - it just NEVER gets used up.
I  keep mine in a flat tin that was made for 10 mini cigarillos. Always in my pack with the  ferrite bar & striker  held to it with a rubber band. Total is less than half the size of a pack of cigarettes & weighs nothing.  Easy to make, easy to refill - but it will be 3 years before you need to make more punk. Totally foolproof.

If you are a fan of that kind of stuff - try it. there are surely websites about making a "tinderbox"

tinderbox +  (so what else do you need?)

That's quality - thanks for the info. I'll look into making one before the next time camping. Would be a really good addition to the game as well.

When i pick a server i jot it down on paper so i know what server it is

I always used to type it into notepad back in the mod days lol. Along with tent co-ordinates and whatever.

But still, come on Devs. There should be something like in older times that says 'you're on server blah blah' when you log in? Does it for private hives with battleye extended, but why not public?

That's another thing actually, do maps in game not work now? If I had a map but pressed M nothing happens, didn't it used to be that the best way was to put it onto your hotbar and then press the number for that?

But surely it being in the control options as M should make it work with M like in Arma? Or am I doing soemthing wrong?

If you don't want to or can't check Steam - instead when you have exited the server look in your own PC files. The default for the file location is _ My Documents/DayZ/ _  in there find your DayZ profile. It is called  <yourname>.DayZProfile    Open this with Notebook (don't change it!) and look for the line  lastMPServer  pretty far down the list - that line will tell you the IP and port number  of the last server you just played on.

    xxP

Checking Steam I hadn't thought of that. Also, yeah I could look for that lastMPServer line. But it's not very user friendly. If someone was new to the game they don't wanna have to do all that to find out what server they were on to be able to tell others. Notepad is still DayZ's best friend lol

  9. Had a great time last night. Saw other players! Holy fook

Had a couple of gunfights at the NWAF.

It's so good that it runs so smoothly. For me anyway, how's it run for you guys? I remember how laggy it used to be it made shooting hit and hope. This engine it's always 70-100 fps. Very nice.

I'm back in Lopatino now, my old home in the old days/ What's new out West, dudes?

    Or:

    hUeUrlu.jpg

Done all that, selected 1st person only, previously played restrict to this character only. Still shows 5 servers even though I've only used 2. I left and tried them until I got the right one. But now I've forgotten the number. Just wanted to be able to tell people to join.

    - Yes I've been pressing continue to carry joining the same server etc what I was asking is is there not even a way to see which server you're actually on when you're in the game?

  11. Have to say, it's really got the 'the road' feel about it now. Which was Dean's original inspiration for the feel of the game. So thumbs up to that.

The trees are being blown around a little too much though if you ask me, maybe turn down the ferocity of that.

Been living off apples and chicken and the odd tin here and there. It isn't too difficult to stay fed.

I haven't been able to get back online since Friday, but will log on now for a bit.

Is there a way no to find out which server I'm actually playing on? Or is it simply log out and whichever one I dbl click that takes me to the right server is the only way?

  12. It's daylight still and warm, I've gotten some alright clothes and been through half of Berezino. Made loads of rags with a fireaxe from the firestation. Found a barrel! So can place that near an old Berezino safe spot I used to use. Might be alright ;)

It's pretty quiet though, I'm guessing there aren't many on atm.

Game's still glitchy, but apart from zeds fighting still being pretty awkward it's been fun. Stealth really works which I love, it's needed that. For so long it was aggroed from half a field away for no reason... So far so good then. Got rope and sticks, need burlap or a pig to make a backpack. Found a pistol and a RAk but no ammo.

  13. So far, eyefinity still isn't really working on this anymore. It used to a year or two back. All the other Arma games are good with 3 screens but the DayZ devs have broken it? It works if I play the game windowed. I'll leave that for now.

So, next issue what have they done with the controls? Can't bind a sprint key now? It has to be forward and sprint together now? Also the new menu for controls is clunky af. I have to select a function, then tell it to add, then apply, apply again, then continue. Surly that's at least two clicks too many? Going to stop moaning now.

It's running smooth. I'm in Berezino. Some loot in the industrial at the NE of the city. Going to sneak in now.

  14.

Evening all. Long-time player who hasn't played for some time.

What's new and does anyone have any good info for someone just returning? Last time I played was around the time Tisy was being spoken of, but wasn't actually a place yet, and wolves were being reintroduced to the Chernarus wilds.

    SO, what's happenin dudes?

  15. No, I don't think you would be banned at all for having a macro on your own mouse that does the same thing as could be done on keyboard. If you know what I mean. You're not getting any kind of unfair advantage. Just using a different button to do the same thing.

  16. You realise that double tapping W makes you sprint? And instead of shift+w you can double press ctrl (isn't it?) to always run. I rebound my controls a little so can't remember the default.

But either of those you could get around your little finger being needed as much. In the past if I've had a long way to run I've used a small weight on the W to hold it down.

  17. Hello that man!
Sorry been a while since I read your comment. I haven't played standalone since last time I tried it still was just running three individual screens instead 'three-as-one' kind of thing.

But I did as you said and arma 3 and arma 2 do now work and the difference is that in those games you have to go back to vid options within the game and tell it to use three up and 5760*1080 res. It works then.
In DayZ it didn't have the option and only says 'windowed' or nothing. And resolution just has 100% and so on. I'll have another look tho next time I fancy giving it a try, might be something I've done or something else.

Anyway I've been playing mod again and it's so good :D Found a good vanilla server UK420 and have been enjoying that. 3 screens work fine on mod.

    Cheers

  18. Hi, yes the FOV thing I noticed as well. It's locked then? I'm not imagining it lol. Maybe that is what has stopped us being able to play across three screens?

Although I played Arma3 and it did the same thing first time, then I tried removed the setting for that game in the AMD profiler thing (to see if it was conflicting) and reenabled eyefinity and the next time I loaded Arma3 it was the same, but then I could sort out the resolution in the ingame options and set it to 5760 and it worked properly across three screens. So I'm not sure about if the AMD games programme was doing anything wrong or not?  Arma3 was fixable though.

I'm using an R9 390X. I'll try and have another go tonight after work and see if I can sort it out.

Another thing - when it renders the image three times, duplicated on each screen, the image is really squashed horizontally - like it is trying to render 5760 but instead of portraying it correctly across all screens it squeezes it into 1920 and then duplicates it. Gives me a headache. Menus are obviously squashed as well, but I can see in video settings it shows 'Windowed' in the resolution with no option to change it left or right. It's bonkers.

  19. Hiya folks..

Haven't played DayZ in maybe a year. I used to run it with eyefinity using three screens. Been getting homesick for Chernaurus lately so wanted to get back on see how things have progressed.

Now though when I load the game I get three screens playing three 1920x1080 versions of the game next to each other instead of one screen at 5760x1080. Can anyone tell me what has happened? lol

I've tried changing the resolution in the dayz.cfg but then the game wont load at all.

Initially, aircraft will be so rare that seeing or hearing one in the sky will fill you with a sense of excitement. It was this way in the early days of the mod. They will quickly become owned and operated by only the largest and most powerful group(s) that exist on any given server, except for when they exist in the hands of random survivors, for short periods of time, when they get stolen/destroyed/respawned from the large groups who will monopolize them.

When only a couple aircraft exist, actually owning, maintaining, and defending them becomes an extraordinarily laborious affair simply because the entire server is basically willing to sacrifice their lives for an outside chance to steal your helicopter from you (in many cases they aren't worth the effort of keeping them).  If people see one, they follow it; if they find where you land it's only a matter of time before they destroy or steal it. When aircraft are extremely limited (2-4 only per map) they become the most valuable objects in the game due to their rarity and unique utility, and for this reason, 90% of all players simply will not give up on hunting for them after they exhaust the other gameplay focuses that DayZ offers. Paradoxically the rarity driven value of aircraft on a server where only two exist is so high that protecting them exceeds and interferes with their functional utility value; you're better off not wasting effort in trying to find or keep one and just use them opportunistically if you happen to find one.

Given that aircraft themselves in this scenario become so incredibly valuable, flying them around and landing in random bases becomes far too risky, even landing in your own base has the risk of attracting players. The way helicopters will initially be used, as they were on the mod, will be mostly for picking up friends across Chernarus, especially fresh spawns, for transporting items over long distances, and scouting.

Yes - exactly what he said. Nailed it.

My friends in the mod would always bang on about getting helis asap. But then it would just end up with the heli being used constantly to pick up dead mates from the beach. It was stupid really.

Or if in a smaller group the problem would be more of hiding the thing and you wouldn't then even use it because you had hidden it in such an obscure location and would have to drive off on your own to find it. The lure of the thing far outreaches the usefulness of it once you've got it.

The best use I used to have for them was landing on Berezino hospital roof and looting meds then buzzing out of dodge as soon as I could. And finding heli crashsites of course.
