Not everyone in this game is a prick. ( love you chinese girl )
Richard III in Leicester replied to papafruit's topic in New Player Discussion
I thought everyone had turned invisible. Keep hearing folks eating, drinking, clinking ammo. Never see them though! Must be ninjas! They've haunted me for weeks - I unloaded a clip into the trees like that scene in Predator - but not even a single drop of (fluorescent or otherwise) blood was found!! -

Rocket himself said they are aiming to make the game for use on an SSD. What more proof do you need? Solid State Drive Having DayZ installed on a Solid State Drive will give you a tremendous performance boost, not in terms of FPS but in loading times of both the game and its assets. Dean has specifically mentioned that the biggest performance boost you can achieve would be through installing DayZ on a SSD. Solid State Drives are much more expensive than regular HDDs and normally have a much smaller capacity. As DayZ is a Steam game, when it’s downloaded it will be added to whichever drive Steam is installed to. If you don’t have enough space on your SSD for the full Steam installation, you can manually pick and choose which games from your Steam library you would like to move to your SSD with a program called Steam Mover . - See more at: http://dayzintel.com/dayz-standalone/dayz-standalone-performance-guide#sthash.owCc37ia.dpuf (Though I will be honest and say my game is installed on my SSD and it's still slow in built up areas. But I think SSDs will be a big part of the optimisation plan)

Does your aim seem to stink?
Richard III in Leicester replied to Valtorious's topic in General Discussion
True, we're getting a bit Fallout 3 now hehe, could have a bit of a pip-boy style character icon with limb indicators or if that's too RPG and not anti-game enough it could just be a textual indication in the inventory? -
Does your aim seem to stink?
Richard III in Leicester replied to Valtorious's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I think your limbs have their own health values so to speak, so they can be damaged even if it says 'healthy' in your inv. Damaged limbs effect your aim so using morphine or splints on yourself after you've been scrapping helps. -
Should get 60+ outside of cities, put texture detail and filtering to high, clouds off, shadows high, object and item to normal/low. (higher is better it makes the game use the GPU and not CPU to render, apparently. Though the only change 'very high' brings is a much farther distance of textures so I don't see a benefit myself). Post process off, ambient occlussion off, AA x4 Sharp filter high. Anything else I've missed? Try the startup parameters as well, can be found in the forums or by googling......... And the Dayz.cfg edits GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1 & GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1 can help. Hope some of that makes sense and helps

Need some advice please.
Richard III in Leicester replied to KOOLLAYD's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah same map, but it has been improved in the standalone so that almost all buildings are enterable and not just props in the scenery. Added new settlements and military bases around the map and landscaped it all with extra hills and things where there weren't in the original Chernarus. They have done a really good job on the map I think. -
Can we bring back some of the small gadgets slots?
Richard III in Leicester replied to pjano's topic in Suggestions
The one from Arma and the mod is actually called the toolbelt isn't it? Still, yeah I think it should be something that could be scavenged or even crafted perhaps? Plus a compass/watch or compass that can go on your wrist so you don't have to keep getting it out of your backpack everytime you want to check your bearing. -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Richard III in Leicester replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Go go gadget zombie arms And bad breath. -
Hehe might take you up on that one. Last time I went up to Svet I heard a lot of gunfire though only saw a couple people, and a few minutes apart as well, never any high volume of traffic. Even tho 5.56 is a bit of a premium I still would have liked to have spent a few rounds lol. I was still left thinking where's the party at.

Can I Run DayZ Retail (POST HERE)
Richard III in Leicester replied to OrLoK's topic in New Player Discussion
My Phenom quad clocked at 3.9 GHz runs it fine even though the game wont use more than 50% processor occupancy. Your lack of proper GPU would have been what was making you slow. 5770 like you say was probably about as good as onboard. I got Phenom quad and 7870 and it runs exactly the same if I have all the detail pushed up and 4x AA or if I have it looking like crap with near draw distances and no AA. All that changes is the game engine uses an even smaller fraction of my hardware. Still, obv haswell will be better - it is a better chip goes without saying. My PC at work is an i7. But this game is not in a state yet where a users' hardware is the be all and end all of performance. As you said outside cities +30 fps easily(I get around 50-60) - inside cities it goes to pot. I know guys on new i5s that still get 20fps in cities same as the rest of us. I feel it's the game that needs the upgrades not the users. If it actually used all 4 cores and 100% occupancy on GPU my old system would be well adequate for 1080 and 4x AA and settings of high or very high (post processing off cos it's complete shite). -
An Easy Way to Explain Alpha - my favorite topic
Richard III in Leicester replied to RAM-bo4250's topic in General Discussion
UO and Quake, they were the last games I'd played more than 10 mins of online as well so I can understand exactly what you're saying. Those were the days of Voodoo 3DFX and 16MB of video RAM hahaah wow ol times. Edit - I forgot the Diablos -
Yeah it really is or was. Plus I used to love old Berezino(mod) and I'm gonna cry one day if it continues to be gangstas paradise up there. Elektro used to be ace though with all the madness. Once cars are in I guess locations will spread out and people can once again run the Elektro hospital-offices-supermarket-firestation-sniperhill gauntlet hehe

Richard III in Leicester replied to tootights (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
And then when you stop pitter pattering all you'll hear is loads of ammo clips being refilled, a few cans being cracked open, a horse perhaps and to finish the scream of a make believe zombie. Hehe -
Can I Run DayZ Retail (POST HERE)
Richard III in Leicester replied to OrLoK's topic in New Player Discussion
No-one can play SA without lag. As much as the mod redefined gaming.... The standalone is redefining the term alpha ! Still worth a try though if you like the mod. Standalone will/should/please-God-let-it get better. -
In a predicament - any sure fire way to orient oneself generally towards Chernarus?
Richard III in Leicester replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
What a tale ! The classic post apocalyptic mishap of dosing off and auto travelling far into the sunset... Swimming as well! Legendary. You sir are screwed I think heh. Up the creek without a paddle - without even a boat! Starving might be the best option I'm thinking; otherwise if it's morning on your server swim with the sun pretty much directly behind you. If it's PM swim with the sun over your left shoulder. GOOD LUCK! They've implemented killer whales and great white sharks right?? ;) Hehe -
does anyone really fish?
Richard III in Leicester replied to Red_Ensign's topic in General Discussion
Yeah that's pretty much what I'm hoping as well. I read somewhere that the team have hired some devs who created a hunting sim to write the AI for the animals. Also once storing gear is a possibility, along with food spoilage making it impossible to stock up on tons of beef steaks or whatever then fishing might be a good thing. Could be something to do once in a while, drop off all your exploring gear in your hidden stash somewhere, swap for fishing kit and go fish for a while. Beer would be good too. -
Why is CHAT STILL NOT FIXED?
Richard III in Leicester replied to Photonic's topic in New Player Discussion
I've never ever had a problem with writing text. When you press "/" and type your sentence and press enter, does it then appear in the corner of your screen at all? Cos you should be able to see it if it has worked. T is not for typing. Cycle comms modes with < or > and when it says direct comms press / to open the typing box. -

DAYZ Standalone VS. ARMA 2 MOD version
Richard III in Leicester replied to nickaepi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Mod zombies jink and strafe and are a pain in the neck because they were based on soldier AI from Arma. They'd navigate buildings ok though because the map was Arma Cherno and the AI knew the map. But they couldn't run indoors and would get confused by you hiding in a bush. Standalone zombies run more like zombies, and will come directly at you, but the buildings have been completely remodelled so the zombies don't pathfind the walls they just run straight through them - probably don't even know they're there. Don't see it happening in old mod buildings like the office buildings (some call it a school), zombies path ok in the old buildings to my knowledge. This kinda confirms what I'm on about. For me mod zombies win (just) simply because there are lots more of them and that makes the zombie aspect better when comparing. But sooner or later the standalone will overtake and have a lot more, and not just zombies spawning where players are but wandering hoardes and overrun buildings and other scary things I hope. As for the original post I can't say either way! Get the lot I'd say, because Arma II combined ops is worth it by itself. DayZ mod is a free extra. If you like that and DayZ mod you will like DayZ standalone and appreciate the work done on standalone so far that separates it from the vanilla mod. Mod also - simply cos flying around in a Huey at night wearing your nightvision, landing on Berezino hospital roof for meds - shooting people with a DMR and putting satchel charges in the supermarket and blowing the whole yard sky high all equals much lulz. Am I talking too much? -
Different hives loading the wrong chars (Please Read)
Richard III in Leicester replied to Knight05 (DayZ)'s topic in Troubleshooting
Is what I was thinking. But from reading your post you say if 4 of you join the very same server 2 of you get reg hive characters and the other 2 get hardcore hive characters? I've never had this happen to me. (I'm editing because I know that post isn't really much help!) I only use hardcore and only use Oldschool DayZ servers one or two. I've never had any problems on either those servers. Could try them? -
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1895810/700-800-gaming-build-recomendations.html Any help? Pretty much everything I'd have said is said by the post on there lol. I'm Brittish so can't be sure of the pricing they quote but that system would run it.... If you aren't into building your own PC and don't know anyone to help you do it you may have to pay a little more but that's the kind of spec you'd be looking towards I'd say.
