Sound of Flies round dead bodies.
Richard III in Leicester replied to Putts_UK's topic in General Discussion
Yes I agree it was a good thing I hope it returns at some point. Always good when you're out exploring and suddenly hear those familiar flies buzzing. -
Should Helicopter Crashes Make A Return and if so How Many?
Richard III in Leicester replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Random number I say - also they shouldn't be straight from restart either. As in I think they should spawn as the day goes on, or occasionally even fall from the sky as a burning wreck. If that's not immersion breaking (?) -
Mine has got better since the last patches :/ Sorry for throwing a spanner into the thread !

Critical Unplanned Update of 0.34 to Stable 7 February 2014
Richard III in Leicester replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I hear ya. Same story for me too far more bug deaths than anything else. My oldest surviving character ever in the mod died eventually because of one of the glitches around Elektro dockside, the one that throws you up in the air to then splatter all over the concrete to the sound of cracking bones.. I laughed in the end; after lots of swearing. It's part of learning to master the game - warts 'n all. -

Think he wanted to make absolutely sure there was at least ONE pointless post today. Fair play to him then, for ticking that box.

why good samiritans irritate me
Richard III in Leicester replied to Macdeth's topic in General Discussion
OP I've been reading thru on my phone and wanted to post a comment but it's taken so long to get to the end I can't fecking remember what I was going to say. I skipped the last 2-3 pages of posts sorry folks. Though I agree with your point it is a touch odd to head back to the coast with the mindset of feeding/watering/clothing new spawns. But I've never experienced it myself so have never thought much about it before. I play in a very similar way to others who have posted, and yourself I think, as a loan wolf looking to survive whilst always on the lookout for other players. Tho not to shoot or shout at or even do anything for the most part, usually watch and follow and see what people are up to. Get involved if I have to. Anyway, without more pointless waffle from me I'd like to say one way to look at it is, even if the 'good Samaritans' are only doing it for their own fulfilment, at least they aren't just trolling and killing unarmed players and being c#nts all along the coast. There's always gonna be plenty to of shit bags, let the do-gooders off a little. They help to balance the scales a bit. And you might end up feeling self fulfilled ;-) Hehehe -
Again, this proves they are working on networking issues....

Hard to hit zombies with melee
Richard III in Leicester replied to jasonreynalds2's topic in General Discussion
Was gonna say that. Also - yes I find it difficult to get the melee right too, I try keeping just out of zombie arm's reach and timing my hits but doesn't always work. Character moans his arse off after being whacked a couple of times by the zeds too.. Quit the moanin' I wanna tell him. -

that darn mouse sensitivity
Richard III in Leicester replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Dude I'll have to read that post, if what you're saying is true they've confirmed exactly what I was thinking about with different weapons effecting turn speed differently. -
that darn mouse sensitivity
Richard III in Leicester replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Aah so it isn't just my imagination! I put it down to the mouse acceleration, which can't be turned off can it(?) and thought it might also be some kind of setting they've put into the game dependant upon what gun/weapon you may be weilding. IE a big rifle might be more cumbersome therefore you don't turn so fast and so on; An M4 with the close quarters buttstock might give faster turn speeds and so on... Just theorising I don't know at all if it's actually a part of the game. -
'No-Fuel' Vehicles and Moby Dick...
Richard III in Leicester replied to mangozapp's topic in Suggestions
All the major industrial centres have train tracks right up to them, I think it'd be a crying shame if they didn't implement some kind of hand cart for exactly the kind of thing you're talking about. It'd be great. Totally agree about the engines as well, sure just pack it into your backpack - right next to the heli main rotor assembly and then off you go running to the airbase ! Haha was good enough for the mod, but they can get it right now =) Shopping carts are a great idea too - I'm almost certain they'll add them. Very 'The Road', which is supposedly the book that gave Rocket the inspiration to make DayZ in the first place. Such a good book too. -

There should be some hand cars for use on all the new rail tracks that go all over the map. -

Should this be called fun?

So right it needed stating twice. So I'll repost. They should pin that statement somewhere for all to see. -
Should this be called fun?
Richard III in Leicester replied to kantsler's topic in General Discussion
Yes me and the friend who introduced me to the mod a year or so ago still refer to our 'baby steps' in dayz! Still comes up when we're down the pub and mention DayZ - exploring from Elektro for the first time, finding tapolka damn and thinking you're miles away from anywhere, and then up the hill seeing Rog and thinking what the feck is that! Rog became our rendez vous during our first weeks exploring hehe. My friend fell off the steps after panicking when he heard the engine of an approaching car once while we were at the castle hahaa what a burk. Old times. -
Should this be called fun?
Richard III in Leicester replied to kantsler's topic in General Discussion
Part of the 'fun' is in NOT hopping just because you haven't found what you want. It's not even in finding what you want, really, for that play the mod maybe or something else entirely. There really isn't a massive amount of loot to get yet, most of it you don't even need yet either. DayZ isn't all about getting all the best items and then looking for pvp. I can think of half a dozen other games that can do that. DayZ (to me) is about being immersed in the environment, maybe as escapism, but also as the experience of going about in this expansive online world and always having that feeling of being in someone's crosshairs at any moment. There's a thrill to the danger side of it that isn't there in any other game. Also about surviving, yes, but not how you said. Obviously to survive on an empty server would be easy almost anyone could do that. It's the attempt to still survive, in the woods, but travelling from place to place and running into people randomly and whatever that entails. What achievement is there in sitting under a tree on an empty server surviving. I think there is a lot more to this game than anything else I've ever played (also why I never play anything else now). Yeah I'm a fan boy, but I'm not trying to put down your way of seeing the game, just trying to explain what makes me tick and why I think you could enjoy it a lot more if you looked at it a little differently. Getting a gun, running to a roof near said gun spawn and waiting for someone to shoot at is only skimming the top of the mountain of what DayZ has. In my experience. -
Refresh once, find a few servers you like the look of, add them all to favourites and then use the favourite server list to go through one by one, that might help? Obv un-fav the ones that aren't good. I did that and now usually only play on one of 3 or 4 different servers and so never have any trouble.
-
Never experienced it myself but I'm guessing it could be the game doing it, it would be pinging A LOT of servers if you had repeatedly clicked refresh on the server list. I know in the past if I loaded up DayZ commander and refreshed all the mod servers it would kill off my internet while that was refreshing. Could be the same thing. Shouldn't need to repeatedly refresh though, just once should work, just wait for it to go thru the list.

My friend, the psycho
Richard III in Leicester replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Bang on. My friends have the same tendancies as well. One (in the mod) even left the game after he got lots of great gear, because he couldn't handle the psychology of 'now i've got all this gear and I'm terrified I'll lose it'. After we'd been in a few scrapes with other players but survived (or won) it made him very jumpy and he'd have to go drop all his stuff at a tent if he ever wanted to go anywhere that might be populated. While that's a sensible idea, with him it became something beyond that. And like I said, he stopped playing because he had gear he didn't want to lose. Mad isn't it. But that's what is so incredible about DayZ. I should have just done him a favour and broken his legs or something ;) -
My friend, the psycho
Richard III in Leicester replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
You can spawn in Novy on rare occassions. Is a good spawn point I think, though I'm not sure if they have changed it since the new spawn system. Interesting story though! Yes your buddy has slipped over to the dark side ;) One of the most amazing things about this game is how it can get into your psyche - and that bad experiences can totally rewrite your psychology towards interactions with others. Especially when playing the game taking the role as if it were your real self in the apocalyspse and interacting how you personally would. Have to wait to see if he starts wanting to torment people and then axe murder them; then you'll know the change is complete lol and then you worry for yourself. Hehe
