If you take the time to read anything on this forum, you'd quickly learn that this idea just won't happen. One playstyle will NOT be rewarded over another. Play how you want to play--it's a sandbox, afterall.

Do we, though. Are we 100% certain it's the dead soldiers? I've tried numerous fixes and I'm still getting those tears when there's not a dead soldier or body in sight....I'm still getting tears from time to time off the wire, building edges, and debris on the roads.

Can I refuel a ATV without a toolbox?
Baelethal replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
All you need to refuel is a full jerry can. Check to make sure the ATV isn't already full on gas though, otherwise you won't get the option. To check to see if it's full, hop into the driver's seat, and there should be a meter in the top left of the screen. If there's a long vertical bar that's all green, you're full and good to go. If it's not green, try dancing around the vehicle. Sometimes you need to find the sweet spot to refuel. Make sure the full jerrycan is in your active inventory as well, it won't work if it's in your backpack. -
"I was in Elektro" "I typed" Not everyone is friendly, and a very slim margin of people in Elektro are friendly. Typed chat has a very short radius, and I'll be honest, is very inefficient, and easy to miss when training zombies around. You saw him, why would you take refuge in a building with only one way in and one way out if you didn't expect to be murdered. A sitting target is much easier to hit than one that's running away and weaving between buildings....

I think the most fun I've had on this game was when it was stupidly difficult because of broken things-- It was challenging when food and drink weren't spawning correctly. My squad nearly died numerous times from thirst and hunger, and the jubilation of finding an animal on the way to a pond. I've broken down into tears, holed up in a building, mowing down zombies from two sides as they pile into the building three deep and there's no end in sight. I'm getting hit, I'm low on blood and ammunition, and I have to try and make my last stand while my teammates run to my location from various parts of the town in an attempt to aid me before I'm completely overrun. Sure the Zombie spawn was broken, but every once in a while, something like that happening is just so unexpected and so challenging, it adds a whole new dynamic to the game.

Who would be interested in a ACE/ACRE DayZ server?
Baelethal replied to james222's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Parts of it would be awesome. The radio would be awesome. Passing out in the middle of the woods because I'm trying to run with my gun and a full pack would NOT be fun. Trying to find all the medical supplies would NOT be terribly fun (they take up a lot of space). Having a stretcher would be kinda fun--not that I've ever run out of morphine in a group setting, but medics could possibly use it. I'm really split on the issue. Some aspects would be fun to try, other aspects would make the game pretty unplayable. -
Ping setting is done by admin server side, and isn't going to get you a global ban, just kicked off the game for too high of a ping. Hope this gets sorted out OP....

Ban under 18s and third party programs from the standalone
Baelethal replied to RiggsUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well aren't you just cheeky... Just because you don't like children playing this game, they always will. It doesn't matter if this game is rated for 18+, they will still play it. Parents will buy it for them, it's just the way it goes. Should they be out climbing trees and stuff? Probably, but we're not their parents, and lets face it, children these days have seen far worse than these "harrowing" zombie games. As for third party software: there is no realistic way to disable them. It's not an "unfair advantage" because if you'd like, you can use it as well. It's not cheating, it's meta-gaming, and is allowed according to Rocket. -
It's not just you. I've a couple tabs open in my browser so I can multi-task while waiting on the forum load time.

I've used the ACE mod for ArmA, and though the medical system takes some time to learn, it's quite immersive, and kinda fun to have to deal with. I wouldn't be opposed to testing a system like the one in ACE, though I'm not convinced it's any different than what's already in place in DayZ. There are still timers, and still windows of opportunity to "revive" a fallen comrade. I must say, however, that once your blood goes negative, there's nothing anyone can truly do for you, and we just need to accept the reality of the situation. Running back to your group is just one of the consequences of the game.

I've played ArmA with the ACE and ACRE mods (which is more or less what you're describing) and given the nature of DayZ, I would get very annoyed very quickly having to walk everywhere because if you run, you get fatigued. The map is small, but it's too large to have to walk everywhere. Walking in cities and towns I can handle, but having to walk 20km cross the map through the woods--I don't have that sort of time, thanks.

I thought you were going to say a camp fire....I suppose electric fly swatters could work, but I'm afraid your directions you were given were not clear, as you got your penis caught? -
I'd like to see it tested and played out before we all say "no dogs!" We could be pleasantly surprised with how they work and what they add to the game.

Never join a server with 40+ players online
Baelethal replied to CerebralZombie (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've encountered things like this--again in Elektro. A friend and I were looting the pub by the market when someone with an axe popped into the room down the hall. We set up and waited. All we had were 1911s each, but we figured a few well placed .45 rounds would finish him (pre nerf). I put two whole mags into this guy, and my partner put another whole mag into him. We could see blood spewing everywhere, but still he ran and got off a couple hacks, killing my partner before he dropped dead. (This was well before hacking, and he did die, so we weren't even thinking that.) There was also another time I was looting the office in Elektro, had a couple good firefights, no lag, smooth shots, smooth kills (three shots max to center mass on a group of three) And next thing I know, as I'm looting, this guy runs down the stairs, and we exchange rounds. I run out of ammo, and so does my assailant, and we both dive for cover to reload. I'm feeling pretty good, because the whole time we were firing at each other, I'm not losing blood or anything, so I'm thinking I'm good. I reload, and suddenly my screen shift to grey scale and I hear the bone crunch sound, my blood plummets to 5k, and I'm bleeding hard and fast. I try to bandage, and it just does the animation over and over and over again. My murder count ticks up, and my group tells me to just abort from server--no need dying to something as silly as a lagging server. It's just really odd sometimes what gets registered and what doesn't. -
*sigh* Just because we have a head scarf doesn't mean we're cold-blooded killers. Just because we have a head scarf doesn't mean we're going to shoot you as soon as you turn your back. Skins don't mean a damn thing. You scarf-less players are just as likely to be cold-blooded killers and backstabbing murderers--look what you did. That player helped you, and you just chopped him down, no questions asked.

Need A quick question answered
Baelethal replied to Thunderbolt (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally, I find larger servers have longer wait times on loading for me, but I've never experienced a 30 minute loading--usually if I'm not in within 15 at the most, it's because my game has crashed or that server isn't working properly. -
I take a breath, lean back in my chair, then go for a walk. I'm not upset with dying, I just take some time to recount that character's life. I recount the good times, the bad times, the silly times, and I think about how and why I died. Then I come back, smile, and start a whole new adventure.

Oh lord no....Those videos should not surface.

Take the items out of the tent. Walk down to the dam, kill zombie. Put loot on zombie. Hide body. Repeat as many times as necessary. Save empty tents, or put a can of food in and save it. Run it over. Win. (This works until someone fixes the problem anyways.)

I understand your views, and I appreciate your civil discourse--hats off to you, sir. I'll share some of my beans ^.^

I guess I just look at the pros and cons differently (which is a beautiful thing, really) KOS: Pro : I can get stuff. (which we agree on, but I disagree about the importance of this. "Stuff" is so terribly easy to come by. Unless I'm starving, which isn't often, rejoicing over a can of beans or some ammo isn't that much of a thrill) He can't kill me if I snuff him out first. (who said he was even going to shoot you in the first place?) Cons: LOL bullets? Everyone in the area knows you exist now. (Ok, so we can more or less agree, but to differing degrees) Why I should play "Friendly" and not KOS (but kill if truly threatened) Pro: Potential ally, potential zombie bait, potential other player meatshield, potential human being behind the keyboard and monitor. (sure these things are hypothetical possibilities, but you'll never know if you don't give it a chance) Cons: Could shoot you in the back if presented the chance. The way I look at it, there are too many "what ifs" that don't get explored if you merely blast everyone you see. It's also quite boring. Player contact is half the fun in this game, and the constant state of not knowing is what really gets your adrenals up. It's way too easy to just blow someone away, especially if you get the drop on them, and so much more challenging keeping an eye on someone, or lull them into a sense of security and camaraderie--real diplomacy and human interaction.

Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that no one here is doing anything wrong, but it doesn't mean we're doing it correctly either. I've had so many different experiences with this game, and for me, that's the beauty of it--no two play sessions are ever the same. OP: as to the one War Z comment made earlier about "mainstream": DayZ didn't start out being "mainstream" either---it just kinda exploded from word-of-mouth and has somehow ended up where it is today. I feel (lol feelings) that it's a person's choice as to KOS. Some days I make the decision to KOS, most days I make the decision to watch, stalk, approach, parley, withdraw. Some days I go looking for a fight, other days I avoid fights like my life depended on it. I've a bandit skin from a long string of defense killings, but that shouldn't make me a KOS target, though most would think otherwise. I feel that every other player has a story--THEIR story. They're free to act out their story any way they deem fit, and likewise, I'm allowed that freedom as well. Because I treat others like they have a story, I'm far less likely to KOS. (You see, there's a story behind my bandit skin, and if you take a minute and not blast my head off, I may just tell it to you over a can of beans and some Mt. Dew.) So long as "Deathmatching" doesn't happen every encounter, not in every city, we'll just have to make do with knowing certain cities are notorious for certain activities, and work to change that dynamic one positive encounter at a time--one good deed or random act of kindness at a time. I also dont' feel that it's up to the game to force us to care, or force us to co-operate, or give us any more incentive than there already is (other than possibly base building and more ways to fortify, because I would co-operate more for that stuff). Instead, we should be looking to the community. We should be changing the way people look at the game, or at least try being persuasive enough to get them to think about *why* they're mindlessly killing and not trying other means of playing. Make your own reasons for not killing someone--they do exist. OP: you may not have done anything to those people who shot you, but you had a bus. Greater men have killed for less.
