  1. The crazy thing is, these types of things happen all the time, and you don't even have to be in a city or hot spot.... I've so many stories, mainly where I die, because the only people on the server are my friends and myself, and I walk right into that one poor soul who decided to either server hop or log in for the day. In a pub in Cherno, nighttime. Only friends on the server at last check (maybe a minute and a half prior). I bolt up the stairs, turn a corner, get hit, spray back. You Are Dead. Never let your guard down. NEVER. The moment you think you're safe in DayZ is the moment someone is going to take you out.

Zombies only dieing from head shots

Searching the forums helps, for starters-- there's information about weapon damage. The quick and dirty of it is the beta patch for ArmA tweaked the stopping power of the weapons.

    Horses.

    Search. Forum. Feature. Thank you.
  4. First, please use the search function. Second, It's not an exploit. If you want to call it anything, it's Meta-gaming, which is allowed. If you really must have something to explain group coordination in game that's silent, just assume these people have been running together for a while, and in game they're using sign language. To be honest, I've run with the same couple guys for a while now, and I can basically tell you what they're thinking, where they're looking, how they're going to move and which targets they're going to shoot first, all without saying a word on TS.

    aiming???

Don't use the in-game crosshairs, they're not as accurate as you think they are. Right-click mouse to bring up iron sights. Also take into account the physics of ballistics. Uphill, downhill and bullet drop.

    Average life expectancy?

It's been rumored that the respawns don't count towards times, however, the number is most likely skewed because of new players trying to survive, and those of us who run through Cherno with trails of Zed just for the thrills, only to be back on the coast again in half an hour.

    !Important Look!

I've played when we had starting pistols. I've played when they took them away. I prefer running around vulnerable. I prefer fearing Zombies and players alike. I prefer running through houses, praying that there's a pistol, or hopping into barns for a hatchet. It's just a matter of adjusting. NO to starting with a hatchet. Just because it doesn't have ammo for someone to kill you for, I'd kill you for the sheer fact that you have a weapon, and if desperate enough, you'll kill me just as easily for my Ammo. Why do you need to start with something that in reality isn't that hard to obtain? I don't agree with the minutes, or even seconds of invulnerability on login. Be smart where you park yourself. If you're going to server hop in high-traffic areas, you need to reap those consequences. If you're not going to log yourself somewhere safe, that's on you. Devs are currently working on a fix for the dc'ers. Let the professionals do what the professionals do best.
  8. I think my translator is broken as well....

Shot in the foot?.....1 hit kill weapons?

in game, the AS 50 is just a whisper if the sniper is far enough away.

    For those 30+ days in

Deerstand to Deerstand, Helicopter crash to helicopter crash. Eat, skip, be merry.
  11. Musings would be posted on DayZPVP.com. Hopefully under a heading in one spot. ^.^
  12. Oh Pale, you give me more credit than I'm due. As for the flare and the Makarov--I started playing in the early 100k player range, or somewhere around there. The "good old days" when we started with pistol and flare and food. We didn't actually find anything. I'm not even sure at that point we were looking for anything, let alone knowing there was more stuff to find. I wasn't looking to get too long winded in the first fond memory, my apologies. Cold blooded killer? Sometimes. Scared Shitless? Mostly.
  13. I've been cleaning cities lately, starting with the server I frequent. I run around major coastal cities taking down barbed wire and tank traps. There have been less and less lately though.... I've also been looking for the elusive bear traps. Had a teammate loot one off a kill once, but we never got to set it and play with it.

    I thought I've seen everything.

Had something similar happen to me once. Was all smug to the group I ran with--that finding people who weren't actually just KOS or backstabbers could happen. Rolled with the guy for a couple hours until he just dropped dead in front of me. Wrenched my heart. I stood there like a deer in the headlights for a second and then self preservation kicked back in and I ran out of town as fast as possible--no need for there to be two casualties that day. I just wish I could have reassured him that it wasn't me who shot him...

    y game so hard?

Why is my "translate page" button not working on this one?

    Victory Condtions

The other night I was on a quiet server, and every player must have been in the woods, because Zombie count was at Zero. I considered this win...but then I ran too close to a town, and the infection started to rage again. Better go wipe those Zed back out!

    Simulating Morality?

Please please please stop cluttering the forums with these posts. Use the search feature.

    Cannibalism

    I dislike this idea.
  19. It's also easier to find "friendlies" outside of the game first. Check survivor HQ, find a group, learn the ropes. Grow. Adapt. Overcome.

    Fear and Fire Starting

I'm not sold on the fire idea. Find matches. There shouldn't be a "work-around". Either you have the supply to survive, or you don't. As for the fear, I'm not sure. I am pretty sure that Zombies are broken currently because they've been trying to fix the DC to drop threat thing--Zeds in town are easy as pie since they seem to be all stationary. And if the zed happen to be working, and you're aggro-ing hoards of zed like crazy, you're doing something wrong anyways. Once the zeds are working better, there may be no need for a "fear" mechanic.

    Not so shining female pants

From a tactical standpoint, female pants are the death of you pretty much anywhere other than in the middle of a town. Gonna hide in a bush? Hell no. Bright White! Under a tree? Visible from across the field. I would give practically ANYTHING to not have those white pants. I've been playing in a male skin mainly because of the white pants, and partly because other clothing won't equip. So yes. +1 Please :D On a kinda related note, have you noticed that the female panting/breathing while running is obnoxiously loud?

    Im Weak

You're not weak, you've just a moral compass...I had one of those too. My first murder was an accident. Was flying solo for the first time ever. My team was all over the map, and I was at base camp. We were out of fuel, so I said I would make the run to the NE airfield and fill up, and also look for the vehicles that spawn around there. I approached the airfield carefully, and sat and watched for a while. Zed spawned in within 5 minutes, so I sat and watched one lone survivor hopping through the hangars. I sat and waited. I had enough space between him and I, and wasn't interested in killing him, or the loot he was gathering, I just needed fuel. I waited. I watched. Then, he booked it across the field and aggro'd a fair amount of Zed. I giggled to myself until I realized he was running right at me. I was terrified. I'm pretty sure he never saw me, and in my panic, I just started shooting the zed off of him. After two of the four fell dead, I could see him swiveling his head to locate where the shots where coming from (Good ol m4 SD). I attempted to hit one of the zed off him while he strafed past me, but I led a little too much and shot him. I've never had a game make me feel as much as this game does. Remorse. Anxiety. After my murder count ticked to one, I literally had to stop playing for a little bit. Killing, at least for me, hasn't really gotten any better either. I have to psych myself up for a kill, and then try and ride the high until the enemy is wiped out. My instincts scream for diplomacy, or for avoidance, but unfortunately, sometimes you just have to pull the trigger.

    People are horrible.

I think the risk vs. reward factor varies greatly here. Recently, I've been spending copious amounts of time in Elektro and Cherno, mainly people watching. I've ventured down into the city as well, seeing what living in a city would be like. I've noticed a few things. Yes, jackwagons exist, but in far fewer numbers than perpetrated. Unarmed survivors seem to be the most deadly. Of the unarmed survivors that I've met, not a single one was truly "friendly". I had gear and weapons, and they had nothing to lose as soon as they found anything to bludgeon/bullet me to death. Most of the decent people I've met already have their weapons (our paths crossed accidentally or tactfully), perhaps because they don't really have anything to gain from a murder, but they could gain some potential help from a non-hostile. Language matters. The tone and words you use when making first contact over mic matter. I've noticed I'm personally less inclined to believe someone who shouts "friendly" as opposed to someone who will form a sentence, such as "I don't want any trouble" or "I'm not looking to shoot you." I've noticed that I've had more success diffusing a potentially hostile situation by not saying I'm friendly, but that I'm not looking for a fight, and set up the parameters for both parties to disengage. It's a subtle thing. The other party knows that aggression on their part will be met with violence. The other party knows that I'm not about to be some bleeding heart pushover that wants to hold hands and skip through the forest. Same holds true in reverse. I will know that any actions I take that are aggressive will be met with violence, and the question becomes do I want to take that chance; what is there for me to gain? In those situations, there's no real second guessing what is meant, since "friendly" can be so ambiguous.

How to equip your hatchet as a weapon.

    Don't forget to reload.
  25. Baelethal

The threats in this game no longer exist.

From what I've observed, the static zombies are zed who were either spawned in by a player who disconnects, or aggro to a player who disconnects, which makes it easy to skip merrily through town. Losing zed via LOS and training them through buildings is almost too easy...Since upgrading to this patch, I've hardly had to shoot a zed at all, and though training them causes a lot of attention, if I'm Oscar Mike and lose the train in and around buildings, there's a good chance that sniper in the hills has lost LOS on me too. In regards to temperature, I've noticed my temperature dropping rapidly in various conditions, and recently my group has run through their supply of antibiotics because of people not paying attention to their temp (or being hit by zed?). In fact, as a group, we haven't seen this much illness at all in game. And no, we're not passing it to each other as far as we know, as the people who have been getting sick have been fairly isolated from the group at the time of infection. Just my 2 cents :D
