How many accessible servers are there really?
vekien replied to Sula's topic in New Player Discussion
On DayZ Commandor I get 2415 but then filtering: unresponsive, full, empty, locked and daytime with a 100 ping i get about 200 servers. Now to say I can join all them, you might be like nope some u cant, but that is conditionally, sometimes i join a server can never get on it, next day i get on with breeze. Some servers I join i get on but its laggy or the zombies are bugged, others are perfectly fine. I can also join US ones pretty well but prefer not to when solo. Can get 800+ with "anytime" "200ping" The exact number of "accessible" servers is not something you can exact, as it depends on you, your location, your internet, server status, bunch of other stuffs, etc. -
Zombies are soooo easy to loose, i dont get the issue. I just ran with 3, ran into a bush and dived on ground, they gone, this works pretty much 100% guaranteed for me XD That or cut a corner then another and dive on ground.

You might not, but lots of people do, and it doesnt post "updates", it will have the posts for the launch of a patch, that is posted on the forums, like I said its mainly for media news, meaning media sites view it.
-
Think of the twitter as a media news source, if you have questions and want replies, you will get them on the forum, if its about a specific patch post in the patch release thread. Dean or another dev member will try to answer.

[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
vekien replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
You should read the whole thread or a least skim it to get some knowledge of how things are progressing. There is also a thread specifically for API http://dayzmod.com/f...ou-have-an-api/ but right now we don't really have the intention of doing it, this might change in stand-alone but who knows. Statistics affects game-play and so do website tools, eg the in-game "map" is pretty much useless now, and the sense of "explore for loot" is gone as people just go to specific spots based on map loot tables. Adding more global statistics can take away more gameplay so as I said in previous posts, it ultimately comes down to Deans decision and right now he is swamped with work and some of these statistics are not priority. For the web development team, we are currently making character profile pages where you can see your own individual statistics, inventory, health status, and so on but it is still heavily in development. There was a preview at "Rezzed" presentation and I will try ask Dean if we can throw up the concept image, but a lot of things change so we will have to see. -

I cant send specific stats for 2 reasons: 1 I'd need proof you are that player, and 2. I dont have direct access to the live stats, i build on an backup. -

Not quite sure what cha mean? The leaderboard was disabled as the queries are too intensive for the Hive right now. So the plan was to improve the gear so that a server can daily-query hassle free and the users would load a cached version of the leaderboard, though some of the stats still need to be worked out, some people kind of like "cheat" in that they just stay in woods and never do anything or they play 2 chars, 1 fetches, 1 hides. And some have ranked up 2-3 months this method, which I think makes the stat a bit unrealistic. Statistics based on personal character will be in soon, twe're just waiting on a solid method for players to verify their character to their forum username. -
Will 'Rockets' proposal resolve the disconnect exploits?
vekien replied to Dempsey (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The data for player direction and status is already logged and can be appended to the activity log, if there are people (or person), who is within range of you and shooting in your direction and you alt-f4'd at the time, and you do this on a high constant basis with identical situations, you would likely be flagged (not banned). Bans will be issued manually after careful moderation, it is mainly to flag and investigate. The "timer to prevent login" is the automatic addition. (Added in future patch not the up coming one). If you roll with a crew and those 5 people are often with you when you "disconnect" not much would be done, it wouldn't be stated as under-fire because those people will not be classed as enemies. But other than that, i cant really state more, as i dont know what kinds of detail the devs have built in to detect PVP interaction. It does not need to be massive, at first, there will be a high amount of incidents, but as time passes (very quickly in this case) it will slow down a lot. When a good sorting algorithm has been implemented a lot will be narrowed down. -

Not server admins, the DayZ Dev Team, A Set of rules will be put forth and then DayZ Dev Server Team will likely handle it. It will not be in the hands of regular server admins. The first implementation is to just implement the correct logging system and then after that analysis the logs to create a good sorting algorithm to narrow down results. I dont know what the Dev Teams full plans are, but I assume basic punishement will be added such as: You log out with Zombie Aggro, nothing happens, you do the same later on, +1 point, you do this again later on and more points added to that specific violation and it begins to add a "timer" locking you out because you keep logging out with zombie aggro, that is 1 rule that an algorithm will be looking for, and a set of rules will be formed, logging in and out several times to "find a server" i dont think will be a rule, why would that be a violation? Server hopping is usually when you're under fire, or aggro, or looting, those things are all different activity logs than just relogging several times in a short space. Nothing will change to the game in the next patch to the individual player, but we will have some logs to analyze. -

I dont know personally, but I think of it like this, if you're logging in, and you're not being attacked, and you're not fighting anyone, and you dc pretty much right away to join another server and this happen several times, why would you be punished? What have you gained? What benefits do you get for being in a server for about 5 seconds with zero activity, the logs would show this. It might even show server info like ping/time/etc (idk but i guess). The main analysis will be "Is this player Alt-f4ing with Zombie aggro or near players who are shooting at them, and do they do it a lot?" When I say "a lot" i dont mean "within a short period of time", if you Alt-F4 with Zombie aggro 3 times a day for 20 days straight then expect a not very nice warning. This is, ofc my own interpretation of how i think it will be. -

Very soon you will be able to. Youtube "DayZ Rezzed" for a preview on that. -

vekien replied to Dempsey (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The method is not automated, the devs will monitor the logs and see what activity can be "logging due to lag", but that said, why do you keep joining servers with high ping? Joining and Leaving a server and then doing same to another server is not going to do anything, because you havent done anything, if you were to loot, hop, loot, hop, loot, hop it might be okay, if you're just logging in, notice lag, log out you've done nothing. You need to be patient and understand how activity will be logged because you can degrade the method. Leaving the person on the server immediately punishes everyone in the form of legitimate DC's or game crashes or whatever, it is also not a good idea to do it this way, so its something the devs want to avoid. Not all games do this, take Diablo 3, if you force out you're gone, even if under fire, your char is not hanging around, MMO's is a little differently because they want to safely store data and thus do this but often times they have lag issues and your character stays in far to long (eg Aion). The devs will be implementing this method and analyzing logs to see what sort of activity is brought up, if you do not alt-f4 to avoid dying, you will have nothing to fear, those who do, can expect bans. -

Logout timers wont work because alt-f4 forces it, the timer would be skipped because Windows shuts the Game down. Leaving your character up penalizes those who could have lost their connection legitimately. There are likely more reasons this decision was not made. The current implementation that tracks your activity is to try illimate the attitude all together, even if you alt-f4 you need to "relogin" again, so that is "tracked" and the more times you "loadin" in a short, frequent manor, especially if that means when you are being attacked, it begins to throw up flags. Dean wants things fair but has to solve this issue, also please understand this mod is experimental and though a thousand people can say "do this, do that, wont work, will work" etc, there is nothing better than just trying it out, and going from there. The mod will always be like this until further notice XD. -
In response to the soon-to-be non existant respawn button...

In a real zombie apocalypse you wont respawn, so the decision to "suicide" is different. -

vekien replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The heatmap is on standstill atm, it is all down to "Gameplay/Design Choice" which Dean has to decide on, while some of you want it, and some dont, it ultimately comes down to that. IMO it is unrealistic. There have been other concepts for more private and user specific ideas, but again, it comes down to Deans choice on how it affects gameplay. Be nice if we could move off the subject of heatmaps as at the moment it is at a stand still. -

Survivor: 58.93 Bandit: 6.39 Hard to know as there is no validation to say a forum member is a game member, there are only 60,660 forum members, while over 800k unique players. -
WarZ and DayZ can co-exist, just like BF/COD, just like Forza/GT/N4S and all the other games that's like another game... Things come down to very simple facts right now: WarZ is a list and a interview, wait until you see more, Dean is very focused on the standalone project, who knows what he has but you've seen his work, dedication and transparency already. That said if you prefer WarZ on release, go to it, if you prefer DayZ on its new standalone version, stick with it. Or ya know, play both... Competition is good, and DayZ is not going to die, not soon anyway, the numbers are rising, its survived in top 5 throughout steam summer sale and its just climbing more and more, and whether 40 zombie survival comes out by end of year or 2 come out, DayZ will be there to stand tall and be its best. Also OP remember, if DayZ was to be on Arma 3 it would have a lot more background support, especially since Dean is there, but it would be supported ground up, but the intention is to go standalone. I should also remind you guys to reduce the hatred, come on, we're all adults, no?

Dayz Developer Stop making updates EVERY few days!
vekien replied to deathgod309's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ummm, no Rocket works primevally on Dayz himself (with a few other staff devs not at BI), Rocket works at BI on this and other stuff, but the BI Arma 2 patches are non related to Dayz because they're for Arma 2... where he works for means nothing, the patch is for Arma 2, not days. if you look at my status you might see im aware of the dev positions. Also refrain from insulting. -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
vekien replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
It was initially changed a few days back to only factor in lifes that lasted longer than i think 5 or 10 minutes, this is so it doesnt count in people who just spam respawn or who instantly die or loading issues. This took it to about 45 and its gone up a few more minutes, probably due to a little less players playing. -
I dont get why people alt-f4 when ESC>Abort does same and is faster lol, but this will get patched anyway, as said in interviews its just about the best way to implement the solution.

Nice inventory design, it would not fit on small resolutions though.
