    The state of M4A1's

Wow, the "should the M4 be in Chernarus?" discussion again. The M4 was put into the game because it was the best gun to test multiple attachments on in the early stages of development, remember? It has nothing to do with lore, or where Chernarus is in the world, or if the US military were there. It's just testing. I look forward to making this post again in a couple of months' time.

In a survival game with severely limited resources, WTF...

    tl;dr - "I know kung fu."
  4. Yep, I agree that more randomisation is a good idea. Reasoning is easy too. Sure, you wouldn't expect to find a stab vest under a kitchen table, or an M4 propped against the wall in a factory office. But there are other survivors, and they move things around... maybe someone stashed those items to come back for them, but never made it back.

Dayz in five words or less

    So much potential. Really disappointing.
  6. Complaints = troll. Apparently. See, this is the problem.

Would you want foldable clothing in DayZ?

Thank you for the picture, I was struggling to picture folding in my mind :D
  8. Sure, I'm not a game developer and I don't have any experience at all of how a game takes shape. However, there are certain facts that are easy to see regardless of the depth of my knowledge. The Standalone has been in development for 18+ months, with a map and engine already in place to build on from Arma. If there wasn't much money to play with before the early access release, there certainly was after it. And what is there to show for it? Aside from the bugs, which are game breaking in themselves, fundamental mechanics such as how weapons handle are years behind their time. It seems as if some elements taken from Arma have just been made worse in the Standalone. I'm sure that the issues could be ironed out over time, and release level content added. But the way I see it, at this development pace, the whole project will run out of steam long before that happens. Either that or another company will come along and do it better. It's a shame, because DayZ has always had so much potential. Still, it's made a huge mark on the games industry and has shown that there is a taste for hardcore survival games, so we'll always owe it that. The 'fanboy' phenomenon is far from a new one in the DayZ community. Going back to the early mod days there have been plenty of players who want to stick their fingers in their ears and chant "alpha alpha alpha" and such whenever any criticism is levelled at the mod/game. I think that Orlok has said it best. Still, I wish I shared his level of optimism.

Too North East / Coastal Focused?

Agreed, these areas of the map need more traffic but I think they'll come into their own with vehicles and particularly persistent storage. More players will be hiding stuff in the quieter areas of the map, bringing up those areas' appeal. So I'm not too worried about what the devs are doing. Leave the players to populate the inland areas once they have the tools.

    hunting and executing medics LOL

I guarantee that organised and experienced medics are better at this than you. As has already been said, your idea isn't new. Medics often have support, and usually will carry minimal gear. That's why they ask what your problem is, so they can just bring specifically what you need along with very basic equipment for themselves. So even if you kill one, they likely have more equipped friends than you and will be back on their feet very quickly. So you didn't really cause a lot of rage, and you didn't gain anything of much value. And that's if you didn't just get yourself killed. But yeah, sure. Great idea!
  13. I don't understand the reasoning behind this respawn system. I thought it was a stated objective that players be able to clear out an area of zeds and make it relatively safe for themselves for a time. Respawning zombies in close proximity, especially ones that remember where you are (totally realism/immersion breaking), is a step in the wrong direction surely? I know we're testing things... but I don't know why this system needs testing at all.
  14. I still don't understand why the issue of zombies glitching through walls wasn't given absolute priority... But it's ok, because we have some new hats.

    Any confirmation on stamina system?

I think stamina will be an important addition... eventually. State of Decay is a pretty good example, since it has things like hordes. After some sprinting around and/or swinging your weapon, you will deplete your stamina. You can still move but not run, and you can still fight but at a greatly reduced pace. This is when larger numbers of zombies are a real threat, because you are too tired to fight them all off. Obviously these are two very different games, but the concept would carry well I think. Why should we be able to endlessly sprint away from zombies? I agree with other posters, though. Some additions and fixes need to be in place before this will be viable.
  16. Did you try running into the wall and logging out while still running? This worked for me. When I logged back in I was on the other side. I was told this by a kind passer by whose attention I got to ask to shoot me through the wall :D

Zombies should run faster than players

I could be wrong here, but I think the idea is that the characters we play are the tiny number of the population who are immune to the zombie infection, so we don't turn.

From now on I trust no one.

I still find plenty of friendly people. I adapt based on my location. If I'm at a military location or in Elektro, I will usually shoot anyone with a gun unless they're at a distance and haven't spotted me, i.e: they're not an immediate threat. Outside of those areas, it's about approaching people properly or avoiding them altogether. As for trusting strangers to loot with or go on journeys with... come on, if you really expect none of them to ever betray you, you are very naive. Besides, that unpredictability is what makes these uneasy alliances interesting.

Zombies should run faster than players

I'd like variation. Some slow and some faster than you. Some weak hitters, some Mike Tysons. That way each zombie is an unpredicatble threat. That would make approaching them and dealing with them much more interesting, as well as reflect some 'realism'; is the infected body chasing you that of an athlete or a fat middle aged office worker?
  20. Do you guys ever have need for suppliers? As in someone who isn't necessarily part of your group but who donates medical equipment. It'd be fun for me to go on some runs for supplies then get them to you as a sort of mission.

    Changes to guns

Rule 1 of these forums: don't argue about guns with Gews. You're just going to look silly.

Military Zombies, Military Loot in Houses?

AKs are coming. The reason the M4 was put into the game from the start is that it's the best gun to test out how the attachments work. When more guns make it in, especially ones that fit the setting better, M4s will become a far less common sight I reckon.
