  1. Hey guys curious question here, sorry if it's a stupid one. I was doing my thing as a new spawn on the coast when I was hit by either a bug or a hacker. Kept getting the white flash of taking a hit without losing any blood, and eventually one broke my leg. Then I died instantly. Oh well, respawn on a new server. I did this in case it was a hack. When I logged back in I was alive again, albeit with a broken leg, bleeding and unconscious. Shortly before I bled out a message appeared in the middle of my screen saying "please stop dragging me, thank you". I've never seen this before. Is that what happens when someone nearby types a message in direct chat? Is it even possible to talk while being dragged?

"please stop dragging me, thank you"

admin message was what I figured. It's get pretty cluttered and distracting if every close range direct chat message appeared right in the middle of the screen

    City names

I disagree. It'd be like a navigation crutch, devaluing navigation skills as well as items such as the map and compass. Also, you can just go to a main enrance to the town and read the place name sign :)

    Body Armor

personally I'd say no to this. I think there's already too much of a lean towards military gear. Also ease of death is one of the appeals of the game, for tension and realism. If it was implemented, though, I'd agree to it being a trade-off for movement speed/inventory space

    Brilliant Idea!

this is a great idea. Perhaps it could be implemented as an ammo type for the crossbow.

    1hr 17min hatchet chase

this is hilarious! You, sir, are a hero. Though I wonder why he didn't just stand still in a spot you keep circling round to and swing until you ran into his axe.

    My Bandit Oath

I've played DayZ for a while now (since 1.6) and up until now I've been a peaceful solo survivor. It's been fun, but something bothers me. When I get killed by a bandit(s) who have lured me into an ambush, out manoeuvred me or outsmarted me I always think "that was well played, and I bet he had fun with that one..." ...more fun than I have. Hiding from other people isn't great fun, it feels too much like a singleplayer game. So I have decided to turn to banditry. I want to try my hand at outdoing some people. Not all player-killers are what I'd call bandits, though. Some are just paranoid, others are pricks who will kill anyone for the "laugh" of it. So here is my bandit oath! ---------- I shall not kill any unarmed player. Unless they're bringing Zeds my way or something. I shall leave victims alive where appropriate. I have a mic, if people listen and give me what I need then I will leave them with what I don't. The nervous "face the wall and drop your gun!" will be fun! I shall not kill anyone needlessly. You walk past me with a makarov and small pack and don't notice me? I probably won't gain much from killing you. I don't get a laugh just from pissing people off. I shall disconnect in the woods. Spawning for an advantage is cheap. And spawning inadvertantly near someone is awkward. Even just a self defence kill in this situation feels lame. I shall maintain some level of honour! If someone helps me, I won't kill them. Even if they have something I want. ---------- Feel free to call me a pansy or something. I realise this isn't everyone's style. It's not a complaint about anyone else's style either, this is a sandbox game. I'm looking forward to using my primaries in anger! Add your own vows!

100 things I learned from DAYZ

    106. A helicopter main rotor assembly fits nicely into a backpack, or even your pocket.
  9. I love it when people post these smug threads when they kill someone, as if they're the best player ever to grace DayZ. Everyone gets the drop on someone eventually. You even said yourself you were lucky they provided you with a defence, whether intending an exploit or not. Congratulations, you killed a couple of people. Now get over yourself.

    Well,that sucks.

This mod is free, and you enjoyed hours spent gearing up your characters. For free. That is your payment.
  11. Let me start by saying this is not a suggestion, a request or anything like that. I love DayZ as it is, and the direction it's heading in. I am a happy player, this here is just something I thought about that might spark some fun and interesting discussion. Just like some of us once enjoyed talking about "imagine if someone made a hardcore permadeath zombie survival game." How would DayZ work if the devs took a more hardcore, realistic approach to what a player can carry? This has been touched on before, that the inventory slot system is kinda odd; (again: I understand why, It's part of the balance of the game to make it fun) you can carry a rifle, a pistol, ammo, cans of food and canteens of water, a tent, a hatchet, some firewood, a car wheel etc etc around everywhere between your pack and your uber deep pockets. So imagine if this was toughened up. For example, pack capacity is majorly nerfed (basic pack size now = ALICE size) and tools such as binoculars, hatchet etc take up the same slots as everything else. This could be balanced in part by making tents quite a lot more common, but also requiring that players stay within the confines of the map to avoid 'secret' camps. More on that later. I imagine this would create really different styles of play to what we see now. Group play would be really beneficial as you split carrying duties. One guy has the food, another has ammo, another one has a part or the car you're trying to fix up etc. And strategy comes with that. When a bandit stalks a group... can he identify who has what role and who he wants to take out? If one guy is carrying the bulk of the group's medical supplies, he'll be an ideal first target. Solo play would still be possible, but would rely more on those more common tents, as they'd need to establish a camp where they can store the things they can't carry. If you can keep your bulky food reserves in the woods, you free inventory space to pick up other stuff. Maybe you'd get 'pacifist bandits', who follow people not to kill them, but to plunder their tents when they're unguarded. Anyway, I just enjoyed thinking about where that might go. It would have a whole new set of problems I know, and that's another reason why THIS IS NOT A SUGGESTION OR A REQUEST. If you're about to comment "this post was pointless", "stop bitching" or something similar, please don't bother. Just move on to a thread you like better.
  12. Oh, that's cool! Sort of like Fallout 3, if you ever played that. I actually hadn't thought of that. It makes a lot of sense and would be a great feature. Another thing I also liked was the way inventory slots worked in Deus Ex. You got a grid, and each item had a shape as well as slot number. So sometimes it would get awkward. "I have enough slots to add this hatchet to my inventory, but it's too damn long!"

    Vehicle Spawns thread

I found a van spawned at the petrol station between Solnichniy and Nizhnoye on the east coast.
  14. ...a game's 'problems' mess you up just when something great happens, but you still come away smiling. Here's the story: I'd built up a day 8 character with pretty good gear. Most of the tools, M16A2, M1911, Alice, plenty of food and water, yada yada. I was playing around in a PBK I found when boom! Server hacked, everyone dies. That wave of hacks we were getting with the high pitched sound, then death. Well, ok, shit happens, I'll spawn again. As a new spawn with my not-so-trusty Makaroni, I made my way to Stary Sobor to try my luck at finding a nice gun. Being newly spawned, I had nothing to lose. The only primary I found on the way was a Lee Enfield. Eventually I arrive and start carefully making my way from tent to tent in the military camp, finding a G17. Just as I'm entering a tent I hear a crack as I'm shot. My leg breaks but I manage to crawl into the tent and bandage myself before I bleed out. I pulled out the Enfield. It's noisy, but the G17 is a bit weak to use on players. After a couple of minutes lying prone watching the entrance, he tries to sneak in and I pop him in the knee. He passes out. I switch back to the G17 and give him a few more shots to make sure he's dead before preparing to deal with the horde the Enfield attracted. Eventually I do that, but by the time they're all dispatched the bandit's body has gone. It was only a couple of minutes. Annoying, since he had an M4 and by the sound it made, I think it was silenced. Would have been the best weapon I ever had in DayZ! Then another bandit killed me a while later. This was a pretty bad day. But the tense standoff was worth it. It felt great to beat the first bandit at his own game.
