  1. My ideal would be to have zombies vary. Some would run at Homer Simpson pace, some at Usain Bolt pace. Same for hitting strength. It would make sense, given that the infected bodies would have varying levels of fitness before infection as well as varying states of decay. Sure, if you come across a Usain Bolt when you're unarmed you're in a lot of trouble. But then, DayZ isn't supposed to be easy. The infected would be a real threat, and an unpredictable one at that. This is all with the standalone in mind, of course. With the inherent problems of the mod, having infected being able to outrun the player and not have to stop for their hit animation would be stupid.
  2. Today I stole someone's Huey, fully repaired and fuelled. Once I'd got bored of flying low over Cherno and Elektro and seeing if anyone would/could shoot me down, I told the server on side chat about my crime just in case the owner(s) of the heli were around. Someone then responded by kamikaze flying another heli into mine mid-air. Large explosion, much death. That man gets all my beans. Got any stories of funny overreactions?

    Stake Out

I enjoy things like this. Mostly because I can't get my head around the mentality that killing someone in a game or game skills in general are something worth gloating about. Of course in this sort of case it is worth it for the satisfaction of rubbing their faces in it. Especially in DayZ. So many fights are decided at least in part by luck (who gets the drop on who?), and piping up in chat to tell a victim how much better you are than them just makes you look like a dick. Congratulations, you killed my pixels. You win at life. Anyway, thanks for a fun read!

    Bandits and You

The problem is the mentality many have that killing someone makes them the better player. Because in every other FPS that is the aim. Hence the taunting. But yes... being taunted by a prepubescent voice does make it that bit more irritating.

    Before I dive back in

I jumped back in a couple of days ago, and was rewarded by finding my first ever ghillie suit within about 30 minutes of spawning. And then 15 minutes later... another one! It felt like the game was welcoming me back lol.

    Hackers/Exploiters??

    You're an arrogant dick.

    I guess I am a dick...

    "Whyyyy?"
  9. It means that the server is feeling a little depressed. You should try cheering it up.

    DayZ Gameplay lately...

I think an important map consideration in the standalone to help with big town sniping will be having more access routes to useful sniping locations. A tall rooftop with only one ladder for access is only conducive to camping. Well no, there's nothing wrong with camping, but make the sniper work for it. Have to cover more than one route to his position. And no barbed wire or tank traps please.

    First vehicle you ever drove?

My first and so far only vehicle was a PBX boat in the bay just south-east of Willow Lake, north of Berezino. I don't know if they spawn fully repaired or if I stole someone else's but it had plenty of fuel too. I was whizzing southwards down the coast happy as a pig in shit until the server was hacker nuked :( story of DayZ these days, really.
  12. I know that bandit skins aren't ideal. But today, my first time playing since the towels were brought back, I had my first encounter that didn't end in me being shot on sight for a loooooong time. I freshly spawned at Kamenka and decided it made sense to start out this new life with the short journey to Balota airfield. I was crawling towards the fence on the north side of the tower when a guy with a ghillie suit and AK came up to me. He went prone to my side, watching me. I announced that I was friendly and that I had nothing of value to loot (I keep my hatchet on my tool belt, since I'm friendly it's not worth holding and looking like a potential threat). He said something over voice which I didn't quite hear "I'm going to give you *something*" then got up and left. Shortly later I was headshotted through the tower window by someone else in the treeline (not the same guy, he went towards the hangars) so it wasn't all good. But that's fine. Anyone else having more friendly encounters since the reintroduction of the towel?

    Progress with the KOS issue?

Experiences vary from person to person I suppose. I've been killed while empty handed several times. I saw on the forums that I was far from alone in that respect.

    Progress with the KOS issue?

You are absolutely right. That's why I said that bandit skins aren't ideal. My hope is that mechanics can help to nudge the community towards making those changes, and then eventually be removed. I'm not holding my breath, though.
  15. In these days of KOS, coastal town deathmatches and sniper camping at NW airfield, it can often seem like true banditry is dead. You know, when someone lays an enticing trap for his victim, feigns an injury to bring the beans to them or that holy grail of DayZ folklore: the bloodless gunpoint robbery. Use this thread to share your stories of such escapades. Show us all that proper banditry still exists out there, and that you are one of the awesome people doing it! Bonus points if you took what you needed and allowed your victim to live. (NOTE: I am not complaining about KOS, coastal town deathmatches and sniper camping at NW airfield. If you do those things, that's fine. This just isn't a thread for those stories, that's all.)

    DayZ struggling?

This forum is full of people who can't objectively talk about something like this because they can't possibly have any bad word said about DayZ. My opinion is that in terms of development, you're right. I don't remember updates being as infrequent since I started playing (Rocket going to E3 being an exception) and it seems it's 90% about combating exploiting, hacking and engine shortcomings, 10% about moving the game forward. But that has to be the case, because as has been said already, we're sort of at the limit of what this engine can provide. DayZ needs a new engine fast, it's convenient that Arma 3 isn't far away a guess! The fanbase is still large and loyal, so DayZ has all it needs to succeed once the devs have the right tools to move it forward. But right now, yes. DayZ is in a definite rut.

    Tales of Real Banditry

your plan may not have worked out, but have my beans, sir, for trying it! :beans:

    Tales of Real Banditry

That was sort of the point, I wanted to see if anyone does actually outwit people etc rather than just blasting them. It's not looking promising! I did enjoy this though :D

    Tales of Real Banditry

I wouldn't call that banditry, I'd call it bitchslapping a fool lol. Still, good on you for it :D

    Are Boats Worth It?

I found a PBX once. As a lone player I had no one to pick up, so I was just whizzing around off the coast going "wheeee!" until the server got nuked :( I found it fully repaired and with quite a lot of fuel. I was curious as to whether they spawn like that or if I actually stole someone else's. Though it wasn't exactly hidden, so I don't think they wanted it anymore if that's the case.

Is there even such thing as bandits anymore ?

Ankhenaten you get my beans. Not for your message, but for your signature :D

    I have become a monster..

When I first started playing DayZ the most intense and therefore most enjoyable part of it was running into another survivor and having that moment of each establishing if the other is friendly or not. The ones I found quite often were. Sometimes we'd team up for a while, helping when the other aggroed zombies etc. Other times we'd immediately go seperate ways. For a long time now there's been nothing like that. If someone sees me, they shoot me 100% of the time. If I go into one of the large towns as a fresh spawn I get shot from windows. I have nothing to loot, I was never a threat or even approaching, I was just killed for the hell of it. I'm all for bandits, and I'm all for killing to survive. But killing on sight for the hell of it is ruining DayZ.
