One of the bravest people I've met.
funky_mish replied to Johnny_Walker's topic in General Discussion
I don't think calling this guy a "douchebag" is fair. Holding people up takes some guts. Sure, he had a gun and you guys didn't but as demonstrated, you outnumbered him and he was vulnerable to a charge. Especially when kneeling to pick up your backpack. It's possible that he didn't even have any ammo and he was bluffing you with an empty gun. The bandit contributed to your fun encounter as well as your friend. He didn't KoS you, which is the most common complaint on these forums. -
possible solution to 3PP imbalance?

Being obnoxious and elitist doesn't help either. -
possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
funky_mish replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I do agree that removing the crosshair is a good idea. I don't agree that 3rd person is a problem though. There are plenty of servers with it disabled, so everyone is catered for. Don't want to play with people using third person? Go on a server with it disabled. Simple as that. -
No, the 8 slot vests do not stop bullets. The press vest spawns in enterable train stations and at the shipwreck. Not trying to be the forum police or anything, but I've seen questions about the press vest asked and answered a lot. Please try searching the forums before posting a new thread... it's looking pretty cluttered in here.

Ballistic vest and Press Vest?
funky_mish replied to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Dust's topic in General Discussion
Anti-stab vests and press vests give some protection from gunshots (I don't know exactly how much). Tactical and assault vests do not. They're pretty much just useful for storage. -
In short, I don't. Private hives and whitelisted servers will make it work. But right now? No.

Imagine if all the people who wanted PvE could go to PvE only servers. That means a much higher concentration of PvP-minded players on the regular servers. And all of a sudden the DayZ experience is skewed for the people who want to play the game as it was intended... those who want to be able to come across other players and *not know* if they're going to be friendly or not.

No. I hated it when I was trying to listen to footsteps or something, but music was playing so I couldn't. I also find it immersion breaking. Especially once you've heard them all a hundred times.

Personally I will never think nametags are good for any reason.

But Orlok won't like me :'(

It's true that with many of DayZ's features not yet added, and a pretty short time necessary to become fully geared, it's easy to run out of things to do. Inevitably this leads to PvP, which many people don't like. This thread is not for discussing development or alterations to the game, it's for people to post their novel ideas for things to do while we wait for patches. Here are mine: Cross Country Race - Join up with however many people you like, at any pre-arranged point. Then you all race to another point on the map, using any route or strategy you like. Everyone starts with basic clothes (or vest and underwear, you perverts) and no backpack or weapons. Do you take a longer route with more loot spawns to minimise the chance of starving/dehydration/having no slots for supplies? Or a more direct route with the risk of passing out? Are you sneaky, safe and slow, or do you sprint through towns risking zeds and hostiles? Death = loss. Could even cross the whole map. It's a good test of navigation skills, too. Sure, everyone can alt-tab out to a map of Chernarus, but having to do it a lot is going to lose you valuable time. Also, your route is going to need to include some water pumps. King of the Hill - A PvP option against people you know actually want to PvP with you and aren't going to combat log. Pretty simple; get a team together, or even go alone. Arrange on the forum a server, time and location for challengers to find you. Your team tries to hold the location while the others try to take it. I think the shipwreck would be a great location for this. Fight Club - Bare knuckle boxing! Two men enter, one man leaves. With the other guy's stuff. Alternatively, spectators place loot bets. DemonGroover's duelling idea is similar to this: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162711-a-good-old-fashioned-duel/?hl=duel So yeah, post your own ideas Here.

Press vests can be found in the shipwreck north of Berezino and in enterable train stations.

Player noises (Eating, drinking) without a player nearby - Normal?
funky_mish replied to acid574's topic in General Discussion
When I was new to DayZ it took me a while to get used to the fact that the sound of something hitting a chain link fence is just random. I would always spin around looking for the nearest fence and the person who bumped into it. -

That was from Rocket. Explains the zombie noises, but not the others. EDIT: Source: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ -

I knew that rabbits make zombie sounds, but not eating and drinking. Today I was hiding in bushes watching the NEAF and heard the sound of a soda being opened. Cue five minutes searching the area with no one there... -
Much less common than green/olive/camo. I like the black look, even if it's not so good for blending in,

or while wearing the orange raincoat :D

The real question here: when is the Jamie Hyneman zombie going to make his SA debut? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/79399-the-jamie-hyneman-zombie/?hl=hyneman

Bipod attaches to handguard but not light? (Please change this)
funky_mish replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I thought duct tape was in the game for exactly this sort of thing. -
The answer to this is very simple. DayZ has no feature for enforcing friendly gameplay, and that's deliberate. If someone creates a "friendly server", all they're doing is asking the people who join it to be friendly. PvP breaks no rules, so no one can be kicked or banned for it. It's all about trusting people... and you know how that goes on the internet. Not saying it's a good or a bad thing. Just the way it is.

Yes, camping is boring. So I don't camp.
-
I was alone, looting in the NEAF barracks. I hear that familiar click of a server hopper joining, and sure enough he was right in front of me. I pooped myself, then proceeded to split his face with my fire axe. Then he logged out.

Your favourite thing about the Standalone so far?
funky_mish replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The inventory. It really is such a huge leap forward from the mod. -
I might be wrong here, but I think "healthy" means that you are full of food and water, and regenerating blood at a faster rate. I guess you were full on blood and therefore not regenerating. When you got scratched you lost some, and that status is telling you you're recovering well. Be happy :)
