So today I decided I was bored of being fully geared, with all camo and an M4 with all the mods. Only one thing for it: suicide by Elektro. I went on a busy server and strolled into town. Anyone with a gun was a target, anyone with melee or no weapon was to be let go unless they got close. In all this time mostly avoiding other players... I forgot how fun Arma/DayZ PvP can be. I can see why people are drawn to it. Anyway, I eventually got the death I sought via an M4 bullet to the back of the head with my kill count standing at two. Could be worse. I spawned in Berezino and as usual made job one visiting the water pump. Two guys were already there, all geared up. They hadn't seen me, and I had nothing to lose, so I hid around a corner, announced my presence, and asked if I could have a drink without them shooting me. Only then did I walk into the open and put my hands up. I think perhaps this sort of approach is what people neglect to do... which is why they get themselves killed. I gave these two guys all the cards and made them feel safe. So they were happy to let me drink, and even offered me supplies. Well, I'd committed suicide for the fun of scavenging again so I declined their offer and thanked them. Onwards into Berezino and I quickly found a Mosin with ammo right next to it. Score! Outside I was circling a zombie and beating it with my pipe wrench when someone took a pot shot at me and missed. Time to sprint to safety! I made it into the woods safely, spent ten minutes checking for pursuers, then decided to call an end to the session. I'm on my way to my new survivalist hunter guy character, Huzzah! I realise that this topic isn't particularly important... but hey, at least I didn't mention KoS, 3PP or combat logging... besides then, but that doesn't count :D A really fun hour or so, and a reminder that even at this early stage, DayZ is awesome. Edit: typo.

Yeah, I think a lot of people want to be friendly but are paranoid. When players come to the forums to whine about being killed again I think there are some occasions where they got themselves killed by not approaching the situation well.

In a lot of cases, yes. But I at least try to become a good sported villain. If I want to start with a new character I'll go somewhere I know there are likely to be hostiles and pit my wits against them until I lose.

Companies these days are all about controlling their "brand", and I guess they didn't want that brand to be "fuel of the murdering survivalist".

If none of this works then get into the game, alt-tab out and do something else while you wait to starve.

In the mod deer stands spawned military loot, for some reason. I remember someone posted the most efficient route to visit all/most of the deer stands on the map. You could get M4s, AKs, even M14s, which is one of the best guns in the mod.

I pick a different server every session. Medium pop, good ping. I change if server issues come up, and I sometimes join friends through Steam.

Neutral. TTSKO Jacket and pants, military boots, ballistic helmet, gas mask, black gloves, hunter backpack, British assault vest (I know, I'm very original.) M4, RIS Handguard, MP buttstock, ACOG, Atlas bipod, weapon flashlight. Three coupled mags. Revolver, 24 bullets. Fireman's axe. Three canteens, Ammo box mostly filled with 5.56 and a few 7.62 to give to friends. Long range scope also to give to someone. Can opener, compass, disinfectant spray. Medkit: bandages, painkillers, blood test kit (already tested myself) alcohol tincture. No food, I eat it as I find it. I think that's about it. There's not much more I feel I need. A few more medical supplies I guess, including Saline. After I die I'll go for a Mosin loadout if I can.

KoS provides no chance to interact, it's an interruption to playing. A hold up is a tense encounter, athe sort of thing DayZ is made for.

You were a bandit. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Like others have said; you were about to die and the end result of what you did was not dying. This is a survival game after all :D

Good stuff, though there's no need to carry all that food. Eat until you're stuffed and let your stomach hold the beans. Then you have more inventory slots to play with.

Oh yeah, I don't deny that. If you try to mug someone you can't have any complaints when you get axed in the face for it :D
