My opinion only: I strongly suggest you watch some videos of DayZ gameplay, both the mod and the standalone, so you can get a sense of the kind of behavior to which your son will be exposed. Youtube has hundreds. Know what the environment is like beforehand. The standalone has no mechanism for global communication at the moment, and I hope it stays that way. The Mod, on the other hand, was a cacophony of idiocy, at best, on the majority of servers. Only you can decide if what you see there is acceptable. If the standalone doesn't add in such a mechanism, it does ease things a bit, from a parenting standing, IMO. I have a son who is still a few years away from that decision, but I'd say no. There are plenty of kids younger than that playing this game, and I probably would have been one of them. That said, for me, it's probably a no. Edit: as others have said: this game is multi-player only. Though there are ways to set up your own server with the Mod, so far there is no such plan for the standalone, as far as I am aware.

Sawed it off immediately. Even have two shells. The mosin is just for show ATM. Got it in an office building. Edit: got the shotgun in an office building.

Anyone know the difference between hardcore and regular servers?
zhrike replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I think it's 1PP only for hardcore, and the time column is supposed to be the time of day in game. -
Black mosin.

It's night time in the US server I'm in. I'm long gone now, sorry! Here is my current gear (new stuff: hacksaw, shotgun loader, paint, pistol flashlight):

I just ran through it on experimental. It's huge. Expanded south, and up on the hill. Some neat one story hospital building.

Guba is the name of the inlet. The town there has to be Svetloyarsk. It has had a couple of blocks of lootable buildings from the beginning, but no markers on in game map. I think everyone who has been there and has seen it called it Guba, too, for lack of a better name. It is coastal and already has a harbor. I'm very interested to see what they add - it's already a pretty good place to loot.

Try this: Install the Operation Arrowhead beta patch (if you haven't), and then when you launch DayZ choose "play with beta patch."

Growing number of banning servers/private servers.

Sorry man, I should have quoted - I was responding to the second post. I hear what you're saying. -
Growing number of banning servers/private servers.

Report them. Rules and reporting guidelines here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158966-dayz-standalone-server-hosting-rules-server-reporting/ Until there are actual private hives, it's against the rules ... and, more importantly, a totally dick move. -

I had an m4, a mosin (in my hands), a .357, two ammo boxes, three storage containers, two full maps, a full med kit, food, water, pristine military gear, four can openers (!), and was just weirdly reset in the same place where I was (west of Gorka) in my underwear with an M4 but nothing else. No ammo, no attachments, nothing. We'll live. Or not. And live again. Or not. Alpha.

This x1000. Encumbrance would be awesome. Just make values for weight carried, make it impact speed, and assign weight to everything. I'd love for weight to be a factor. Frankly, I think everything should have a weight value, and there should be a limit to what anyone can carry. This would force hard decisions on all of us. Let's say full speed with < 10KG, and then decrease speed by increments from there. It would really make a lot of the carrying shit moot. Slots would be more important, in terms of space in inventory. Wanna carry two primaries? Sure, as long as you have space. But you know what? You can't run very fast with two guns, etc. I'd like for this to take effect before vehicles are introduced. I always found running around with a coyote backpack with engine parts, a couple of spare tires, scrap metal, and a full 20L jerry can to be rather humorous.

I feel your rage, but the mods do a pretty good job with the redundant threads. All we need to do is ignore them (the threads, not the mods). At some point I'll take my own advice, too.

You get one can of beans for admitting that you're Rambo. And you get ... one can of beans, because that's all I can give, but if I could give another I would for the idea, which I like.

I've actually been there. I didn't think it was a future military outpost at the time. I climbed up the ladder and almost forgot the mosin I was carrying was dropped there (was carrying both that and an m4). In retrospect, I think you're right ... something will probably be there.
-
Traded in my ballistic helmet for a motorcycle helmet to try to look a little less bandity. Although carrying two primary guns doesn't help, I guess.

I did not miss the point of the poll. I was not responding to everyone; just to this ridiculous group of individuals who have responded in the demeanor that I took to task. I responded earlier to the poll question itself, and then voted. This is not directed at you, nor is it directed at anyone who has a sensible argument. Edit: and to restate my position: I prefer 1PP. But it's not about me, either.

Nice find! I haven't seen that one yet, and I've run through those wastelands looking for evidence of what might be coming. Ran through the NW to Center more than NE, though. I was hoping that the Pobeda Dam was still around. I have a vague recollection from an early dev blog by Dean that indicated their intention to spread people out across the map, and add much more content up north. Based on the placeholders I think it's coming, just "when" is the question.

I agree that it is certainly the town next to the Guba inlet. I called it Guba because there was no other name - but it has had an entire block of buildings on either side of its main street since the beginnings of the alpha, with good loot, plus the train station, but dayzdb only shows the latter, so I imagine players who use that map didn't know that so many lootable buildings were already there. There is a car and garages behind the block, plus cars in the lot of the train station. I've found a mosin in a bar there, and enough map fragments to create two full maps. I'm really interested to see what changes are in. It also has a big hill with trees and rocks above, so has good camping spots for sniping ... or bad, depending on your perspective. That said, Balota isn't the only end game locale. There are military installations and spawns all over the map. The NE coast is rife with loot. Berezino is a huge town with tons of loot. I started there on an experimental server and in one run through the town was totally kitted. Krasnostav is also a big town with lots of loot. I think people are still adjusting to the sheer volume of enterable/lootable buildings across the map. Based on the streets and paved areas up north that are currently empty, I think the intent is to spread people out all over the map. The coast will always have its spawn campers, though.

Still boggling my mind that people are still whining about this. <RANT ON> I've seen a number of posts from the 1PP evangelists that imply that playing 1PP only makes you "hard" or "tough," or indicates that you have "balls." Respectfully: fuck off. There have been a number of people who said 3PP will be removed when Rocket "grows balls." Are you fucking kidding me? How ironic to have some gamer nerd type anonymously from behind a keyboard about a guy who FUCKING CLIMBED EVEREST not having balls? Yeah, read about the death toll on Everest some time. It's an incredibly difficult and deadly task. The mountain slopes are still, now, littered with corpses of trained climbers. Rocket climbed over a dying man to get to the summit (and apparently didn't loot him). Playing 1PP only does not make you hard, or tough, or ballsy. Trying to enforce your view on everyone else makes you insecure, immature, and egocentric. It's not about YOU! The same argument goes for KoS or not, PVP or not, etc. The hardest thing to do in this game, and life, is to be kind. You have to be brave to risk injury, be it emotional, psychological, or physical, solely for the benefit of another with no possible benefit to yourself. KoS is easy. Shooting first is easy. It's not tough, and neither are you. In the end, remember, this is a GAME. A game. GAME. Not life. A game. And what are games meant to be? Fun. Want to measure yourself against someone else? Meet them in the ring, or the octagon, or the mat, or climb a mountain, or race in a triathlon, etc. etc. The Chernarus Marathon doesn't count. <RANT OFF> tl:dr: Stop whining about 1PP vs. 3PP.

I tried frame by frame, which was difficult, you can see the shot, but not a player - so it does look like he was invisible at that point, though his mate said he saw him run by earlier. Definitely looks like a hack. He is a sad little shit.

Yes you should. Great stuff, very funny. I subbed after #1, and liked #2 just after you posted. Keep at it!
