Discrete video card for sure. Right now the game is not optimized, and is based on the arma 2 reality engine, which is CPU intensive, but they'll be moving more off of the CPU and onto the GPU as development continues. My specs are on the lower end of the spectrum, but the game, once I get the settings, runs well. i7-3720 2.60GHz 8 GB ram Nvidia GeForce 650M w/ a gig of memory. I'm running it on a macbook pro with windows 7 under boot camp. Like I said, little stuttering with the settings I have, unless in the big cities, which hits everyone, pretty much. Even people with higher end systems often set the prefs lower because it's beneficial to performance as well as in game (as it allows you to see players).

Watch some videos of guys who have high-end rigs tripped out to the nines, and who upload high res vids. It's gorgeous. Though, something enticed you to get the game, so maybe you already have. Also, there are some good threads in the Gallery section here of gorgeous screen shots, etc. But yeah, anticipation ... it's making you wait. And it will be all that much better in the end.

Day two: he buys a new computer. I bet you're thinking about it, though, eh? Dolina would look much better in higher res :-)

Search. This is already part of the developmental road map. Private hives are coming. The rules for current servers won't be changed.

Growing number of banning servers/private servers.
zhrike replied to chaossound's topic in Suggestions
No, the rules should not be changed. No one is paying for a private server, because they don't exist. When one rents a server, one agrees to abide by the rules. For every admin that simply wants to play free of the threat of KoS (where is the fun in that?), there are another ten who want to loot farm their server with their merry band of circle jerking clan mates, then join public servers where they have an advantage in gear. Once private servers DO exist, separate from the main hives, then all is well and good for whitelisting and password protection. -
If he can "join server" from within steam, he will see the IP address in the steam dialog that pops up. He can just copy it there, and paste it into the DayZ server browser. I don't know of any way to find the IP of the server you're in once you're in it.
-
There are separate "shards" in the hive DB for regular and hardcore, though some people have also posted that their regular character appeared when they joined a hardcore server, so potentially a bug. I had the "server not responding" issue when trying to join friends via steam, but I copied the IP address and connected directly to it and it worked fine. Ping over 100 but no issues whatsover. Have him give that a try. I'm US, they UK, not sure where the server was, but it was over 100 ping for me, but connectivity was perfect once I got in.

They're everywhere.

Thanks, I missed that.

Dispensed with the helmets for a slightly less threatening look. Now on the lookout for a cowboy hat and a starving person, since I have way too much food. I did get to try out a sewing kit on the TTsKO jacket - improving it from badly damaged to worn, so that was nice. I also ditched the TTsKO pants for the green cargo pants. I also have too many guns and too much ammo. Haven't found a map or a storage container for quite a while.

What's up with his POV? Edit: I mean FOV.

I've found one in a brown barn and one in an office (that some people inexplicably call a school).

You can also fill it up at any pond or small stream. Usually works best in first person perspective. Put bottle in hands, and then scroll to "Fill Bottle."

Known issue. From the latest experimental list Happened to me in some really bad places. Lucked out so far.

So did the crying for the combat logging/server hopping start yet?
zhrike replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Needs more drinking. -
In reverse: Whenever I'm in any FPS I hit 'alt' expecting to be able to free look.
-
I'll jump on a server, mid to high pop, and then stay on it unless the population dwindles and stays that way for a couple of sessions. Same plan for both regular and hardcore.

Oh man, whispering FTW. Very funny. Fuck my left hand, too.

Premium loot -- A balanced proposal to "gearing up"
zhrike replied to carcinovich's topic in Suggestions
If the lockpicks are NOT degraded or destroyed with use, then you'll see increased server hopping once someone has found some. In fact, once loot respawns the motivation for hoppers is going to mostly disappear. This would add it back, IMO, again, IF they aren't degraded with use (maybe 2 uses?) or consumable with one use. Squads, especially, will hop from one server to the next, picking the locks and hoarding weapons. I like the idea, but think it would work best if the lockpicks were consumable. -
That's somewhat strange. I think the healing status may be bugged. It seems that way with me. That said, we don't start at full health or blood, so once you are energized and hydrated enough, you start to regen. Your healing status may have come from that. It seems to just stick around once it's invoked.
-
Lighter is better. I got hit once, was already healthy, and have been healing, dark green, ever since. I think that status may be bugged. I have "Healthy" and "Healing" going on at the same time, with "Healthy" bright green. It's been a while, in game.

So, I've been playing two servers, primarily, one hardcore, one regular. Checked out both for a bit today ... didn't have a lot of time. On HC have a scope for my mosin. No scope for regular. Pretty geared otherwise on both. Decide to look for a scope on regular. Log in, had logged out just outside of Krasno after running through the AF and the town, primarily just looking for that scope earlier, preferably long range. Went through the town, hardly anyone online, it's night. Population fluctuates wildly, but due to being wiped at least five times, I try to stay on a server until it resets, and even then. Anyway ... so hardly anyone on, decide to run through the AF for two reasons: one, to look for a scope, two, hopefully get to kill a server hopper. I got both wishes, kinda. Maybe. Before heading to the airfield hit the *cough* school *cough* (office), can't see shit, so I just stand and tab where I know loot might be ... pick up an FNX45 to go with my mosin and .357. I had been carrying a clip and some rounds for a buddy - just in case. Anyway, decide to hold that for my airfield run and start out at the southwest end heading to the first jail building. Take out a few zeds in town and around the jail. Doors are closed. Good. Open them. Jail doors are closed. Good. Loot the building, same deal, stand around in the dark, listening and hitting tab. Find some crap, food, drink, some ammo, another 45. Some clips for an m4 I leave after emptying. Head past the hangars not bothering to check. I have no light and can't see shit in them anyway, though I did find an m4 in one, once. Hit the control tower. Not much there of interest, more of the same. Hang around for a little while listening, hoping. Nada. Decide to run to the other jail before heading back and waiting for hoppers. The loot suggests a fairly recent restart, both in the buildings and the town before. Head over to the eastern jail building. Doors are closed. Good. Open them. Jail door is open. Shit. Close the doors, back off and ease right to the side. Hear footsteps. Heart starts racing. Aim .45 at the door, and it opens. pew pew pew pew pew pew pew! Dude drops. He should be dead, right? After a beat, he stands up ... motherfucker ... pew pew pew pew pew! Drops, dead, this time. 14 of 15 bullets from clip spent. Maybe I should have used the .357? Irony: among his possessions, one long-ranged scope, but ... ruined. w00t. I'm fairly certain he was a hopper, but not 100%. He didn't log, so he gets props for that. Anyway, first time ever KoS. Don't feel the least bit bad about it. It's NEAF after all, though I tend to not want to shoot first. That has been me on at least one occasion. Anyway, if this sounds familiar, your body is there and I didn't hide it, nor take anything aside from your pristine ballistic helmet, which I'll most likely ditch for a camo baseball cap or green ushanka.

I know. I'd never used the FNX before. I was surprised by its rate of fire, but disappointed in its damage. I fired in two bursts, and was surprised that it was almost an entire clip afterwards. I ejected it to see how many I used. In retrospect, I should have been carrying the .357 (which is what I usually carry for close encounters if I don't have an m4), but I wanted to get a chance to try the .45.
