So this is probably the stupidest question ever....but...!
zhrike replied to KFieLd's topic in General Discussion
Right-click on DayZ in steam, choose properties, go to Betas tab, opt in. The game will update. Reverse it to get back to public hive/patch. -
"Do you want to throw up here, or in the car?" Both. Yes, both. FNX has great firing rate, .357 more of a punch. Clips are hard to find, but once you get a clip you're golden. Only need one. The actual ammo isn't that rare. If pressed, I'd take the .357 for stopping power, but I carry both most of the time.

In addition to some of the other suggestions: You might want to up that PSU. 450W might not cut it. I'd also look at an additional, traditional spindle hard-drive. 120GB will be gone fast. I'm all about redundancy, too, and still a little leery of having all of my eggs in one basket; particularly an SSD basket. You can backup to a cheaper, slower drive in case the SSD fails. I would install the OS on a SAS or SATA drive and games on the SSD, backing up to the other.

And the M4 also spawns in office buildings, which show as high yield for clothes, not weapons. That image is useless. Apparently the center of the map is completely clear ... although I can run through that clear area and wind up completely kitted with military gear including an m4 and ammo, if I was interested in an m4. Stay away from my north!

Have you actually ever left the coast? First: Elektro is actually busier than Balota. Second: Balota does not have the most military spawns. NWAF does. Third: Military loot spawns outside of the military areas. Office buildings/schools spawn every weapon type. Barns spawn the clothing and backups, as well as weapons. The only thing that seems to spawn only in military areas are high-end attachments. Fourth: All of the map is playable. Fifth: there are military areas all over the map. It doesn't need to be rebalanced.

Master List of Equipable Items the Community Wants in the Game
zhrike replied to - Karma -'s topic in Suggestions
They do. They've incorporated feedback from this community directly before. Good ideas, if visible, will certainly impact the dev cycle. I know I was flippant in my response earlier about beards, but this is a great thread and thanks for maintaining it. On the poll: I voted up all of the region appropriate guns and down for the 'Murican stuff. Just my preference. Seems to be the trend so far. -
Sarcasm detection is broken across the forum. That said, if french presses are added (and I'm sipping from some freshly, frenchly-pressed coffee at the moment), we'll have to add patchouli, and of course PETA outfits for when hunting is finally implemented. Maybe buckets of blood to toss on those evil hunters? If anything can turn me into a KoS bandit in dayz it would be a bunch of emo, and/or patchouli wearing, and/or PETA protestors. pew pew pew pew pew. Or people who like Justin Bieber. And who watch reality TV. And who read entertainment magazines without a sense of irony. And people who walk. So, I'm basically on the cusp, I guess.

Experiment of sorts. Each time I've posted an image, I've died due to a glitch shortly afterwards. Experimental patch character.

Awesome idea. We might actually be able to see this quote take place in game: "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."

No. I am also married with kid. Hence my point :-p

Doing the dishes is a small price to pay for sex. Now, if they start with the "just hold me" crap ...

I was drunk. I admit it. You: Guy who decided to test his gun in the woods above the industrial site east of Polana. Me: The drunk idiot looking for a backpack. I found nothing, but I heard your shot. I ran out of the site, when two zombies decided to aggro on me for absolutely no reason. I know I was sprinting stealthily. That couldn't have been it. I killed them both with my axe, doing the circle kite dance, all the while thinking "whoever fired that goddamn shot can goddamn see me right now," though with much slurring and probably much more slowly. And, sure enough, as soon as I looked towards the sound, there you were, heading down the hill on the north side, coming to the site. Well, I had a fire axe, so I ran towards you, too, figuring I'd try to get my shots in before dying, if that was my fate. I'm always much more confident about my stealth accuracy abilities while drinking. Much to my surprise, you said "hey man." So I responded with something that was likely slurred. You asked me if I needed anything. I said "nnn nlookng fr backpck. halth hydrred, all gud" (phonetically spelled). You told me that you were heading down to the coast to offer your help to new spawns, and asked me my name. I think I told you, spelling all two letters of my then in game name, which I may gotten correct. I think I then tried to spell my forum name, too. That was likely a disaster. You said your name was Jim Franfefagerr something. There was a "James Francium" on the server. I think that was you. I'd just like to say: I am sorry that I did not offer you some of my copious amount of food to help the new spawns on the coast. I checked the player list often to see if you had been killed by the goddamn ingrates at the coast, but you persisted. Cheers to you! Of course, since it was an experimental server the douche factor was much lowered. In my defense, I had a shovel approximately four fucktons of snow before imbibing about the same amount of alcohol, so my thinking cap was askew. Next time?

While I respect the fact that he has been both consistent and transparent all the way, as well as the fact that I happen to agree with many of his ideas, yeah, I agree with you there. He's just one dude. He's fallible. We all are. Some people have fantastic ideas, even if they sometimes run contrary to something he's maybe said once to someone, somewhere. Okay, all THAT said, he has also taken the community's input on numerous occasions and incorporated those ideas into either the game or the development. I'm thinking specifically of Gews ballistics and the awesome set of recommendations by the Russian contingent. Too lazy to link ATM.

Your mileage will vary. Fighting IRL is not like tv. Just watch some MMA. Some guys can take incredible barrages and keep coming, and others can drop like a shot. It's not easy to just hit a guy in his temple. I've been in too many (in my relative youth). I can think of two contrasting examples that illustrate the difference. One, hit a dude with a right hook full on over his eye. He was about my size (6'2" 220); broke his orbit, and he was out. Dropped like a rock. Another guy, smaller, like 5'10, 185, hit him flush and he kept coming (much to my surprise). So, you never know. I've been hit full on the face, chin, temple and it's just enraged me, and one dude hit me under my ear from behind and knocked me loopy. Disclaimer: I'm not a crazy psycho ... and I don't condone fighting. Just been through a bit, is all.

am i going crazy or am I hearing things?
zhrike replied to Spartan5364's topic in New Player Discussion
Known issue with sound effects. Also, you'll hear random zombie noises, which, I believe, are being made by wildlife (rabbits, for instance). It'll get fixed. -
Geared guys, payday masks, running the coast, punching a new spawn. Douches. So many of these twats run around on low health because they don't eat and drink, and that's one reason they get knocked out so easily. Idiots. And the one guy had a metric fuckton of rice. FWIW: I don't think her gender, in game or out, had anything to do with that interaction. Just a couple of idiotic would-be spawn killers getting wasted in the best way possible. I don't think that could have had a better ending. Perfect.

How does this Happen? Bug or Glitch? Sneaky Bastard
zhrike replied to Killicon's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I believe that the devs are aware of all of these glitches. I'm confident they'll all be addressed. The office buildings (schools) spawn all primaries, too. I've found every gun in the game, except maybe the new blaze deal (yet), in an office. Also, there are some military buildings that are less traveled. The Camo building on Bashnya, the southern one in NWAF, and the one down in the buildings outside of Cherno (can't remember which it is ... not Dubky, I think). NEAF is the new NWAF, apparently. The first few weeks of the game no one was there. Now it seems, with all of the spawns up on the east coast, and Svetloyarsk, it's a popular place. -

Yes. The camo buildings and the ATC apparently have glitch areas ... as do the firehouses, so losers will get in there. Also, the hangars at NEAF have a glitch where people can sit under the floor towards the rear. It's always chancy going to that airfield on a full server, because those glitch spots are almost always occupied, and you can't tell either way. I was there with a couple of guys. One on overwatch from sniper hill, me from the other end of the runway, while the third was looting. He was shot at by invisible people next to the ATC, neither of us on overwatch heard the shots (m4) save through skype. Then he was killed running between the hangars. There was no cover where we wouldn't have seen them. It happens. Douchenozzles will be douchenozzles. -
Went from Kamyshovo all the way up north, then down to Bashnya, and haven't found any new items that aren't also in public. The only difference I noticed is that the shovel appears to have increased damage. I killed a military zombie in two hits. I'm not sure if that's a change, but previously the shovel was pretty weak.

And clearly, he was sober. The idiot.

What Do You Think About The Long Spawning Time ?
zhrike replied to Sir Trolle's topic in General Discussion
Anything that makes combat loggers, ghosters, and hoppers whine is beautiful. -
disclaimer: Not my video. One of my all time favorite games, and this from my favorite mod (Oblivion Lost). These zombies were just static in the vanilla, but were added in a number of mods. I always found it creepy that they lurched towards you while talking.

Weird and stupid interactions in Berezino on Zombz.net last night.
zhrike replied to PhillyT's topic in General Discussion
That quoted bit made me lol. I had a similar experience. Hardcore experimental server, spawned in Novy, which is an awesome spawn, IMO. I killed a couple of zeds with fists, then found an axe. Couple of minutes later I saw a player running down the main street, bleeding, being chased by another zed. I ran to follow, killed the zed, then went up to the player, who was bandaging. I heard a squeaker say the following words "oh god, no!" with such fear and distress that I couldn't help but laugh. I could barely get out "it's alright, I'm not gonna hurt you ..." without laughing, but also wanted him to understand I wasn't lying to him. He bolted. Later, I found a mosin and ammo in the same red brick building and looked for that kid to give him the gun, but he was long gone. I was reset shortly after. Poor kid. -
