Experimental Server - Tonight 9pm PST - Come find me, or my bullets.
Irish. replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Ive been playing the mods since Dec of 2012. I have nearly 100 hours in the Standalone. You believe what you wish, but I have never been killed and have killed well over 50 players at this point. One time I was killed but I literally did it on purpose. I ran up to a bandit squad that had just blown up the gas station and proceeded to flip one of them off about 1 foot from his face. That is my only death so far from another player. Negative. I typically play on servers that have about 10 free slots or less. Its not really mean. Its more so their own internal issues. I have no problem believing someones story, why even care if they lied? Its a story.. like it hurts your feelings if some guy feels better when he lies about his video game prowess. I personally dont feel better talking about it, nor would I ever get gratification from lying about a video game.. I feel better playing, and if they want to think that someone could not be killed once in almost 100 hours of playing this game then that is their issue not mine. Ive logged well over 1,000 hours in the DayZ mods with about 90% coming while playing in a large, coordinated KOS clan. I have plenty of experience, and the one thing that is keeping me alive is my situational awareness. In this game if someone sees you first, you're dead. So far Ive been lucky to not have been seen first. That's all there is to it. ;) -
I believe that with community events, this alpha could be a lot more fun for people to play. We need a steady flow of them, even daily would be a good thing. Its easy to set them up, just think of it like a flashmob. You post on Reddit, and the forums here about when, where, and what the event is. Then you sit back and join the server and have a blast. The alpha is lacking on content, and the PvP/Interaction is very regionalized. But if people take up the task of randomly starting up events we would hopefully have something to look forward to each day/week/month. It would be nice to go online, look for what's happening tonight, and join the server having the event that sounds the most fun. As it is now, I log in.. run around, maybe shoot a few people, maybe not. Loot. Loot. Loot. All loot and no play makes Jake a dull boy. ;) So now you know how easy it is to start one. You simply post a thread up about it. Time, Server, Event description. Here are a few examples of past community events and ideas for new ones: 1. Cherno Journo - One guy took up the task of setting up this massive event several times in the past. He tasks people and clans with kidnapping him alive and moving him to a secure location to win the event. He has had security details, and run solo. Its always fun and the server is always full. Clans fight over his capture and then fight to steal him away. Solo players have won by themselves.. its just good fun. 2. Giveaway - Simple small events like a giveaway are enough to get something going. You post up the good gear you have, and offer it to whoever finds you first. Tell them which server, time and general area. People come and fight over your gear.. who knows what could happen? Sometimes its just a simple handoff to one lucky player. Others its absolute pandemonium. 3. Clan War - You put out an open invitation to have a clan war. You set the battleground, server and time. Then you or your clan sit back and prepare for all out war. Ive had several of these go smashingly around the Stary/Novy area. You just define a place like, Cherno or NWAF and everyone heads there for the action. 4. Fightclub - You set up an event for melee or fist combat. Long barns/Warehouses make great arenas for this and are often in defensible locations to keep out the bandits that will try to ruin the fun. This requires a security detail of skilled players overwatching the arena. But if you get some good people to join the fun its just a riot. You crown a champion at the end, sort of like a king of the hill/last man stading thing. It can be 1v1, or all out madness within the barn. Its all up to whoever makes the event. Ive been to one that was on the coast so people just kept coming back over and over again.. I swear I wore out my left mouse button that day alone. 5. Deathmatch - Pick a town, just 1. Event purpose is for players to have other players to hunt down. Send an open invite to all who want to join server at set time (its always best to know restart time and choose that to keep players from bedding down and ambushing unfairly before event even starts) and have it be an open free for all. Lasts as long as players keep shooting and coming back. Berezino/Svetlo would be great because downed players could quickly return to the action. There are many, many more ideas.. maybe you have one? Lets hear your thoughts on future community events and any past experiences you may have had with one. Then take that out into the DayZ world. I hope to see things popping up soon :)

I just killed someone who was either hunting me or those who intended to loot the tents at the NWAF. Purple pack, black SKS.. tons of food. Body buried. 1 bagged and tagged for me so far.. lets see where this goes. -

Community Events.. ideas and why we need more of them.
Irish. replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Excellent idea.. Im there, just call it. LOL.. too true. As for the first part, I just put an event up. You can come hunt me down tonight in an hour, on exp. servers at the NWAF. You should see my post on the front page here.. its obvious. Hope some people can make it. I cant plan ahead too efficiently for events I throw as my baby, wife, business get in the way far too often so I have to do these last minute small things when its on my own. This is why I put this OP up. I would love to see others start doing this as much as they can. -
Increase traffic inland by removing the tents at Balota
Irish. replied to Grimey Rick's topic in Suggestions
I am one to guess that they placed the spawns on NE corner to get players into their new towns up there to test them. I also have looked at their development of the map and it looks to me like they intend to have a full circle idea, and most likely spawns will be around the edge of the entire map if that happens. That way only the center is void if anything. -

Ive been milling it over for a while now why people dont play DayZ like they did in the mod. I chalked it up to new player base not knowing map and the whole what you know is most comfortable thing applying. But now I realize you're right. Its more so about not needing to travel inland, so its really only the looted servers and rare explorers or veterans that you find up north and out west. The rest just dont need to go inland, and why would you if you dont need to? Damn.. now I question my existence up North. I could be killing 100's in Svetlo instead of 10's at the NWAF. -
Can you shoot through staircases or was this a hack?
Irish. replied to blazed's topic in General Discussion
1. That was an awesome read, and seriously made me laugh.. not even at you, with you. 2. Bullets ricochet. Alpha gets all aphla-ee. Lag. Desync. Yes, he actually shot through the stairs (maybe there is a bug there he knows about).. any of these could answer your question before HAXZZZ! Hack happens, but it gets exclaimed far more than it truly rears its ugly head. I know because I have experience spending hours upon hours of going over logs and in the end finding about 5% of hack reports are actual hacks. 3. Most hack reports or claims are actually people getting DayZ'd. 4. He waited for you to come back. You did. DayZ'd again.. this time by a player, not a bug or janky coding. 5. In real life physics are still essentially a theory. In video games, there are not even laws of physics that you cant count on 100% of the time. Its tantamount to seeing your friend float away one day for no reason.. another you grow a huge arm that flails wildly. In other words, you cant exactly count on video games to work properly and when they dont you have to shrug it off. -

Just put a bunch of these there instead.. like a survivor encampment gone ghost town. -
Same. I like the bushes and objects that block your view and force you out in open sight in many cases.. Grass is a hell of a drug on hardcore and will get you killed quick. ;) I have no issue with 3pp, so as far as HC goes thats not my motivation. Its the view point being changed and the new tactics involved, lack of seeing your back at any point, BIS programming of interiors makes it cray-cray for CQB.. so many reasons why HC is fun. But also so many reasons why regular is too. Mainly I dont get sick ever on 3pp servers, where as on 1pp I from time to time get headaches or nausea and have to log out. And yes, my headbob always is off. Since day 1.

Got Banned for some reason..."I actually wasn't hacking"
Irish. replied to TaterSalad's topic in General Discussion
A global BE ban goes across all games that use BE. Key.. I caught that he purchased a key in there somewhere. So I think that was his thought process.. "$6 for a new key? this should work fine." Only problem is unofficial keys will get you banned. -
Its called stress testing. They push the server to see if it hits high ping levels and crashes. Is it ping levels? Damn Im retrosado right now. 100 player servers are a good thing. More than likely you have seen lag because, 1. the server is getting stressed, or more likely 2. you have a high ping on that server. Most are reporting good experiences on the 100man servers. I am. They are great. Targets EVERYWHERE... :o

Irish. replied to TaterSalad's topic in General Discussion
There is literally no point in commenting if all you are going to do is argue or call him a liar. Just laugh and move on if thats your stance. Ive heard of people getting false bans in the past for things like Teamspeak (not actually TS, but something like that). Sweetfx has gotten people bans before. I cant remember all of the instances but I was a moderator for BMRF.me until they shut down and we had numerous people get banned and either reversed later (which is next to impossible) or they just did a fresh OS install and repurchased the game under a new account. For a hacker this gets so old, so fast its not worth it after a few times even with Bill Gates income. For the non-hacker this is your only way of getting back in game if you cannot find the file that is getting you banned. Also do not play on any of those old servers you frequented just prior to being banned, its rare but things can happen on wonky server/mod hosting sites. Only purchase official BIS files, not some janky key. Only install previously verified mods and files. Install the minimum for dayz, try for a while and see if you get banned again. If you do, give up. Throw PC through window, etc.. Good luck if you're honest about what happened, I happen to be inclined to believe your conviction rather than the easy road of saying you are guilty. I also believe in ghosts, bigfoot, aliens, and life on other planets. Also God. So take my opinions as you see fit. ;) -
Will this custom pc be able to run DayZ?
Irish. replied to themanofthehour3561's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I misread his post.. thought he was saying that he barely even gets 20fps. Even with my modest, low-end rig I do just fine with DayZ. -

Dont care either way. Until these people learn to use the navigational tools provided I don't think it would change things anyhow. -
..it was December of 2012. I had just finished building my first gaming PC, solely for the mod DayZ. I joined in after several attempts of trying to find servers, and connecting.. etc.. (damn the mod was so hard to get into the first time compared to a "normal game"). So here I am, finally in game on DayZ. I had spent literally countless hours watching videos, and pouring over info on the game. I knew I was as prepared as I could be. I spent some time adjusting my control settings, then testing them. I hear a gunshot. So like any good noob, I head towards them. Bodies are everywhere.. and in my noobness I think, "Eureka! Ive hit the motherload!" As I move in to loot, I see the sniper scoped in on me. I very calmly and slowly back around a corner, as if I had not seen him. I immediately run around flanking him. The only thing I had looted so far was a fireaxe. I pull it out as I approach his side, he is still scoped where I had been. I swing, annnnnndddd... MISS. Swing, miss. Swing, miss.. he takes notice. Now its a swing-miss-gunshot-miss dance we do for about 30 seconds or so.. until I hide behind a brick wall. He loses me somehow even though I was 1 foot in front of him when I ducked behind the wall. I watch him in 3pp, scared out of my mind.. heart racing wildly. I know Im screwed. He has experience and weapons, and I have no clue what to do. Only my previous gaming experience and real life training on combat tactics could help me. I knew he had a bolt action sniper rifle. He also had a large tower just 10 feet away from him. If I run, he climbs up and I die. So now what? Im almost paniccing when he climbs up the tower. Now I know Im really screwed.. I mean how do I hide from someone up on a tower? Well, only one place to hide. The base of the tower. Only place he cant hit me. So im there, wondering how long until I die.. when I realize something. I just started to play this game. Why am I afraid of dying already? I swallowed my courage and began to climb that large brick tower. At the top, I thought for certain I would die. Much to my surprise he did not hear me.. my axe sank deep into his head. The loot made me shake with excitement. I will never forget that as long as Im playing DayZ. Such a great moment.. 5 minutes later I was shot and killed while aiming at a tree with my new M24. I could only laugh it off and try to make it back to my body before the restart.. and thus begun my long-standing love of playing DayZ ;)

Irish. replied to themanofthehour3561's topic in General Discussion
Really? Im running a 550 ti. Average 40-60fps. Big Cities I get minimum 20-25 fps typically. Here is a sample of my twitch streaming with it.. I repeat, streaming. ..and here is a sample of just recording via Bandicam: ..in conclusion, I think your settings need adjusting. I also have a Core 2 Quad 3.0ghz CPU.. my GPU and CPU are combined, cheaper in cost than some peoples PC case. -
I agree.. Our players are Jackie Joyner-Kersee. ..but that last part.. really? Immersion breaking? Ive never been playing a game and said to myself, "yeah, like I could run like this in real life." I mean maybe Im not immersed to begin with, lol
-
Like when you try to jump a fence and the animation does not play out.. you just stop. Would be so much better to have your player go face first in the dirt.. maybe even a chance of injury. LOL.. I would die laughing if I was tracking a guy through my scope and he did that. Just die laughing.

One of the better rifle training schools in the world: USMC has shown that even with weeks of training by experts, qualification at least once per year, and the easiest weapon to shoot as you put it.. (only the better military version of it), out of 250 shooters you will frequently see about 30-50 get a double disqualification. That quite literally means its not comically easy to shoot the weapon. 100% of shooters on the USMC range will tell you so.

Read your post and my brain immediately requested a "tripping" animation. LOL ;)
