What dayz could have been without zombies

You know, this is a good argument for modding SA, this whole "No zombies" affair. Wait til it gets full release and play grand-scale anarchy all you want...

This is why I HATE DayZ.

Really, right? Playing DayZ right now just so experimental. And what's more, it's just stuff. Most of it right now is broken stuff too. Jesus Tap-Dancing Christ....

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

When I left the mod a loud rifle would draw zombies from pretty far off. I suspect that will carry over to Standalone when all is said and done. Also, Zombies don't need multiple shots to find you. One is enough and I suspect that won't change either...

This patch is littertly game breaking.

Understandable. But then again what is the 8 minute timer for? That's not broken, that's implemented. Is it to test to see how many people don't come back in?

dread and despair a game changing suggestion.

It's not a matter of KoS for a lot of us. It's a matter of a zombie apocalypse game. Go back and read those first responses. KoS wasn't mentioned once. That's as much as I feed the troll...
  6. Military MMO? That's Arma. Zombies are pretty synonymous with horror, my friend. Just because the mod never fully realized the dream doesn't mean that's not the goal...

    As-50_Thermal and MP5K [ Standalone ]

DayZ is a game of uneasy meetings and awkward confrontations in a world dropped haphazardly into a zombie apocalypse. What's right about the AS-50 in DayZ?

    As-50_Thermal and MP5K [ Standalone ]

    Yes. Yes they can...

    Random spawning points

Is there a reason why spawn points are primarily coast based? It strikes me that a random spawn point would add beautifully to the disorientation of entering as a new character...

    Random spawning points

My promotion of the idea isn't one of immediate implementation, though it really isn't a matter of that much development now or later. But it wouldn't hurt to put it in now. Here's a few reasons... 1) Random across-the-map spawns mean spawn-camping will pretty much be impossible. 2)Random spawn equal more of a challenge. Figuring out where you are used to be a moderate challenge. I know where I am now spawning newly in a matter of moments. 3)Random spawning means running into someone else soon is a little more of a mystery, lessening the odds, but on a full server your hair would be on end. 4)It's in Alpha. No better time than try it now and see if there are any problems with such a system.

    Track IR

I've been running TrackIR for probably a year now. Like NexVentor, I've gotten terribly used to it. Being able to free-look hands free across three monitors? Totally worth it.

    Woot, found a anti-stab vest

    Pictures! We want pictures!
  13. Of course the problem with this notion in DayZ is it is a totally forced notion. And I believe that's the big disconnect. If you play enough in the current state, it's really not hard to find food, a backpack and an axe. Bam, you are set to survive. If you stay at that level you can go for quite a long time. But then you find a gun and it's too damn fun to just shoot people. At this point in development it's more a Lord of the FlyZ, not DayZ. When it doesn't make sense to snipe a guy with pockets full of food while he's in the grocery store and wait til he gets out because you don't want to be near the zombie horde and shoot him specifically for his food, then the game will have arrived.... I still think server admins should be able to run as zombies...

    The "Compass Bearing" game...

I imagine that the future for damaged compasses is false readings...
  15. I'm sorry if it was otherwise, I'm now just left wondering what insult to America you're ascertaining from lipemr's post...
  16. I'm American and guns are as American as apple pie, if you hadn't been paying attention. Or at least that's what's implied, not by Lipemr but the guy walking down the sidewalk with an AR-15 over his shoulder because it's his God-given right as an AMERICAN! Sorry, off-topic rant on my end over. Just had to say it...
  17. Honestly I wouldn't mind if they implemented severe ammo spawn limitations. Make those shots you take count!!

    Opening Doors Still A Chore

I will give it this for reality in a zombie apocalypse and only this. If I were in a zombie infested world I would open doors as quietly as I could. But that all goes out the door when I am eating and drinking into a damned megaphone so everyone can hear me eating like a 3 year old...

    New SMG Announced... Any guesses?

    Sten gun!

How Long Should a Day Last? (Hardcore)

Heck, let it be something that can be set server-side. The problem I've had in the past with a 'realistic' system is just when you play in the evening those servers are always night time servers, especially if they're synchronized with where I am. I'd like to break away from that, please.

    Loot grinding

I personally don't feel comfortable in this game until I have at least three cans of food on my person. And I wouldn't play it any other way. To jubilation that you feel when you find something you've either been looking for or need desperately to live is pretty awesome. When I read something like this, I have to wonder why they play this game... At least you said 'wanted', not 'needed'. This game is the worst case scenario scavenger hunt. If you want to risk your skin and your time finding a scope for a rifle, that's your lookout and your option. If you don't enjoy it, perhaps this game is not for you...

Hunger Isn't an issue. And it should be,

I would say this is already solved. It's the elements that are being worked on. The obstacles to getting to the food will increase over time...
  23. So it strikes me people are against modding fall towards two bits of reasoning. One, they feel it splits the community when they all could be just playing one game. Or two, they simply don't like the mods themselves. I would remind you of this. There are those in the Arma community who feel the same about DayZ and wished it had never happened, if they had their way, the mod that we love so much wouldn't exist. Bohemia allowed Dean to create DayZ by leaving Arma open to modification. And in that spirit you can be guaranteed that SA shall enjoy that freedom also. So if you don't like modifications of standalone, all you have to do is set your filters. To deny everybody the slightest modifications is to deny yourselves spontaneously great ideas! I personally I have little doubt that modification Will be allowed and I hope good tools are created with it. Nothing else would ensure better and more streamlined modifications...

    Random starting gear...

I just had a notion to make your respawning a little more interesting when you're killed. Basically in the world of DayZ we have a zombie apocalypse where we were caught with our pants down. Why shouldn't the clothes we wear and the few paltry things we start off with be moderately random? I'm thinking like an apple, a jacket or hat, a soda, etc. Something that would make the moment you come in a surprise and make you take moment to ascertain your position. Thoughts?
  25. napalmdog

    Random starting gear...

Not if it's just a basic thing and clothing. A can of food, a soda maybe. If somebody is willing to suicide themselves over a beanie, that's there look out and waste of time.
