Things that will Make or Break Standalone (Opinions)
OfficerRaymond replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lack of Vehicle VarietyThe standalone needs cars. Lots of them. Don't get all "But... but...but... OfficerWaymon, I don't wike cars. Too many cars will make a baad game" or "Fuck you, go back to your 1,000,000 vehicle servers you fucking noob". Fact of the matter is that Chernarus is a LARGE place with PAVED ROADS. They have the whole nine yards with road signs, speed limits, stop signs, and road lines. The population of Chernarus is quite high in Arma II campaign. I'm not sure how high, but it has to be in the tens of thousands. How did they get where they were going? Walking? No. They had cars. Lots of them. Depending on how far into the apocalypse standalone takes place... most of these cars will be loot-able wrecks. But IMO with the new size of the map and 150 player servers... there should be at least 500-600 vehicles that are able to be fixed. I also believe that cars in standalone should be harder to fix, parts should be rarer, and some could even require keys. These cars need to be different. SUV's, Trucks, Cars, ATV's, Utility Vehicles, Golf Carts... With different models. Boats are also a necessity, and they need to go FASTER. One more thing: No aerial vehicles. PERIOD Yeah. I said it. Child ZombiesGive us what we want dev team. Was Chernarus an adult utopia where nobody was allowed to procreate? COME ON! We want children zombies! Before I'm called a sadistic bastard, no, I don't have anything against kids. But realism begs for this one thing. If there is EVER pooping in Standalone and children zombies aren't put in the game..........................................................................I will find you rocket. -
Reward for staying alive for a long time (instinct)
OfficerRaymond replied to IrishHugo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That's why it'd have to be so subtle and invisible that it would be near impossible for a player without access to the dev teams scripting to calculate it. At the same time, it'd have to be significant enough to give value to a character. I agree with you though. DayZ does not need to turn into any form of WoW grinding system. But we're talking about realism here... not wild things. I'm 100% against seeing any form of exp, perks, attributes, or anything of the sorts. Give the SA a gear menu, specific side chat messages, and a Menu. Fact of the matter is that DayZ NEEDS character value. We cannot, and IMO, will not see any difference between the mod other than revamped textures, better optimization, and cool new gear menus, UNLESS players have a reason to keep their character alive. When you die in the mod, you're sad because you lost your gear, and that's it. Standalone needs to take that concept, and add on remorse for your player. I really don't know what else could be added other than invisible experience gain. I hate using the word experience because it implies MMORPG elements, when what I'm really talking about is getting better at things like you would IRL -
Horrible server admins @ The Syndicate DayZEpoch server
OfficerRaymond replied to hungryhippo13's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Clearly CalTex's 'ground' rules worked so well. ROFL. Oh well, hopefully it'll die out and fade into nothingness. Any server with abusive admins deserves to be empty. Second chances should NEVER be an option for abusers. If they abuse once, they'll do it again. Any owner worth a grain of salt feels the same way. The shit totem pole goes like this: CoD KoS Kids Pay2Win Players Trolls Skiddies Script creators Abusive admins Owners that allow abusive admins Abusive Owners -
why i wouldn't make it through the zombie apocalypse in real life
OfficerRaymond replied to Gwraspe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hmm... It's hard to say what would do me in. I have lived long periods of time without technology, like when I would go on hunting trips This isn't an issue. I don't have any particulars about what I eat at all. I be a tiger shark. No issue. I like social company. But I talk to myself so I'd most likely form multiple personalities if I were by myself. But still... not an issue. I know a lot about wilderness survival and have a basic knowledge of anatomy and medical issues. Can hunt, fish, hide, climb, dig, and build things with what nature gives me. I'm also pretty decent with a gun and even my hands... (I was a boxer from 15-18, started Brazilian jujitsu and taekwondo when I was 12 and finished my blackbelt in both at the age of 17 and 18 respectively). Not an issue whatsoever. To be honest I see myself lasting a long while with a small group of people I know, or even by myself. That being said, with my luck something random would happen to kill me. Like getting bit by a mosquito with West Nile, or tripping and falling on a sharp stick, or something of that idiotic nature. It's like my fiance says... I could get hit by a car, break my bones, or even cut my arm to the bone... and man up about it. But when it comes to small things like cat scratches, paper cuts, or splinters... I'm a pussy little bitch that whines. ROFL. It's just the way I am. -

Calls others that don't KoS carebears -> tries to make the game as easy as possible for himself I bet you're also one of those Pay2Win, 10,000 vehicle, care package, self bloodbag, increased loot spawn regulars as well. I now dub you... Fairy-McPussy-Teletubby. -
Reward for staying alive for a long time (instinct)
OfficerRaymond replied to IrishHugo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No, I don't think it is. You aren't actually your character in the mod. You're just controlling them. A person that first picks up a gun isn't going to have the steadiest of aim. Who's to say how steady it'd be, but one thing is for certain. Your aim would improve over time. THAT is what we're getting at here. Small, barely noticeable improvements that add up. Example: You constantly run everywhere. All the time, running running running. Instead of giving a huge speed boost... implement a tiring system. In the mod you can run 100 fucking Km without getting tired. I say put a cap on your running distance, and then require people to rest or risk becoming fatigued and slowing down. Reward the people that run for a certain period/distance a small time increase on this tiring system so that they can run longer and longer distances the more experience they gain running. Not visible experience, but something the game calculates. This could easily be applied to everything. The longer you spend cooking food, the faster you can do it and the more it'll fill you up. The more time your spend aiming, the steadier your gun is, even after running short distances. The longer you spend alive, maybe you start hearing things with more clarity and farther away, and your view distance increases by a few meters. I'm not talking massive changes here, only slight (barely noticeable at a time) ones with a cap once it reaches a certain point. With this system we totally avoid any form of visible experience/attribute/skill system, and TONS of people would want to stay alive longer so that they could acquire these benefits. It doesn't even make the game unfair (although many would claim it, the mods would just have to balance it correctly), it would just give an ever so slight advantage over people that are fresh spawns and people that choose to CoD style KoS. With smart decisions, anyone could get better at anything. All while deterring aggressive play AND giving value to a persons character. BOOM -
Reward for staying alive for a long time (instinct)
OfficerRaymond replied to IrishHugo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Spend a lifetime in the city, and then go out into the forest and spend a few weeks there. Your senses will become tuned to your surroundings. How do I know? I've been camping and hunting for my entire life. When you're in the woods, you learn what to look for, even without knowing it. The longer you spend there, the more your instincts kick in, especially if your life is in danger. In the standalone, we need realistic reasons for character value. This is one of the best I've seen in awhile that doesn't really hurt the game. It all depends upon how it's implemented. If there isn't value to an avatar, then it'll be the mod all over again. -
Small Realism/Anti-Camping Idea
OfficerRaymond replied to Karmaterror's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I totally agree with the visible breath idea. I'd imagine (given its location) that Chernarus is quite cold, particularly at night time. That being said, you'd have to have eyes like a hawk to actually be able to pinpoint something like this in the daytime. At night time, it'd be almost impossible without a full moon to light up the landscape. I'm afraid that your idea doesn't hold much of a realistic value. Unless you breathe like Godzilla. I'd say it'd be realistic at up to maybe 70-80m at most. Up close however, at 20-30m when hunting a possible ghillied camper on a bright night, it would be completely possible to find them using this method... so it's not a completely useless idea. I support this idea 100% and the immersion it would bring. -

I don't even think there was a topic to begin with. The OP isn't a bandit, he's a troll. He has admitted it several times. -

OfficerRaymond replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no point arguing with the KoS kiddies. Plain and simple. They're gonna continue to think that nothing in DayZ will ever defy their idiotic mentality. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what happens with Standalone and how many of them quit playing. They're just going to keep giving the same excuse over and over again, it's not going to change by us saying anything. I don't think this thread is going any farther. Machine has already admitted he's a troll. And we both know how arguing with a troll goes. It'll only get us both yelled at again. Rofl -

OfficerRaymond replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly I think it's optimism that gets many people (including myself) through life every day. Seeing hope for people that are just so damn ignorant. No matter if they're going to change or not, as long as you keep some form of hope for them, maybe it'll happen. Maybe if I buy a lottery ticket I'll win, there's always that slim chance you can choose to take. Even when you bring them down and point out their stupidity and they continue on, at least have a thought that says they'll change. I think that's why I got into working in corrections. I handle some of the smartest and dumbest people on the planet that made the dumbest of decisions. No matter their attitude, you never know what they could accomplish in the future. A man could live as an animal for the rest of his life and either die evil, or accomplish wonders. Maybe a murderer/rapist could cure cancer one day... who are we to say? Even though the mere thought of such a presumption is enough to make many peoples assholes pucker like they were under a mistletoe. -

Why used to? It's still a very good point. Don't give up hope on it, no matter how much more ignorant people get! -
Dear Rocket and his team, no private hives, please.
OfficerRaymond replied to Dekkymane's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is where I kind of disagree. Drawing from what we know about Chernarus, we can conclude that there are probably well into the tens of thousands of people living there. There are roads and highways present, as well as cities and towns. How do you think these people get around? It's certainly not by walking. I believe that more cars = better post-apoc game. However, those cars should be broken and require heavy maintenance to operate. I'm not saying 1000 cars is the best option, but it is a realistic one. Depends on the context. -

Lol I remember playing with you and killing you on that server. Rofl. My opinion? Steer clear of CGC dude. I don't usually hate on servers, but they got some messed up shit going on. I was part of one of the admins being removed due to abuse, but the general attitude of most of the active admins there are complete and utter horse-shit. Rabid is the only one that I personally trust, he was the one that got shit done. The others just take their time killing players and giving zero fucks. All while giving out load-outs for money. Just my opinion. On topic, looks like he was hacking from his general attitude. Particularly when he demanded you apologize, and then coincidentally(?) you fly into the air. My verdict? -

OfficerRaymond replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
*facepalm*... Do you have an idea of how the world works, OTHER than this dark and pessimistic view that is extremely outrageous and unrealistic? Sure, you're right. There will be psychopaths. There's gonna be murder and killing and evil and death. But there's gonna be good people either way. People have a good side, believe it or not. They aren't all these terrible people you apparently think they are. The good people will ALWAYS outweigh the bad, and that's a fact. I don't care what research or 'knowledge' you wanna try and drop on me to debunk it. The reason DayZ brings out the worst in people is because it's a VIDEO GAME. You can be this tough and evil thug bad-ass all you want in the game, and when you die doing something morally wrong? You just hit the exit button and reconnect to doing evil things. In real life? Well... I don't know what values you hold as a person or what your regards for human life are and personally I don't care at all. But fact of the matter is that 99%... no, 99.9% (I'd even be willing to risk money on 100%) of kill on sight players would NOT have the same attitude that they have in-game if shit really hit the fan. I don't care how 'tough' or 'badass' they think they are. Most of them don't even know what the real world is like and would be crying in the corner like a baby without breast-milk. Sure. DayZ will always be a video game, and I understand that. It isn't real life. But I'm not gonna morally sit here and read the facts that you're throwing out and not say anything. It goes against every fiber of my moral values as a person not to. I'm just gonna simply say that you're wrong. And humanity forbid there ever actually be an apocalypse, I hope there's more people like me that would actually do the right thing instead of turn on and betray his fellow man and women like cowards. /epic speech I'm also gonna be laughing up a storm when people like you are whining on these forums because the zombies are too 'OP' and that you can't kill anyone because they keep killing you. I'm also gonna laugh when you can't seem to find enough ammo to even do some casual target practice and you're on here crying about loot rates. You'll be of the special breed of person that never transitions from the mod to the standalone, merely because it's too hard. But you'll shrug it off as the SA being too buggy or some other lame excuse. Argue all you want, that's my prediction. -EDIT- I tried to keep it as civil as possible. -
Give me one logical reason why gear destruction will delay KOS
OfficerRaymond replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't disagree with adding AI at all (many forum members don't agree), there should be a source of 'fixed' emotion if you will. Players are volatile, they'll always be volatile. One day they're a hero, another day they're a bandit... that's why people play DayZ. You can play whatever role you want. That is what makes DayZ so great, but also makes it kinda loopy and one sided. That sense of chaos is great for a post-apoc setting, but I personally think there should be set 'roles' that players just can't fill. However.... Taking zombies out of a zombie game is...I don't even know man. I'm not trying to be derogatory, and I apologize if I come off as such. But when you take the zombies out of DayZ (regardless of how 'frightening' they are in the mod), you essentially have a Apocalyptic style Wasteland server that is labeled as a DayZ server. -

TrollsTrolls are a part of every game and nothing will ever change that. We just have to live with it. However, standalone needs to be different. It's time for us serious gamers to take back our games from these morons, starting with DayZ. It isn't about what the devs can do, but what we as a community can do. Refuse to watch DayZ troll videos. Don't give these shit-nuggets any reason to make more retarded videos, and eventually they'll move back to CoD. -

OfficerRaymond replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're right. KoS will remain a problem in the SA as long as the community is full of single-minded halfwit brain-dead turds. My verdict? Banishment. It's not that we don't like you or want to keep you from playing the game. It's just that we don't like you and don't want you to play the game. The council of elders has spoken. Begone with this filth. -

Well, lets see. The devblog showcases the game in its alpha state, far from a finished product. The helmets will most likely be more realistic as the game progresses in development. Also, it's a VIDEO GAME. Do you believe everything in a video game has to be 100% accurate and logical? Not often do I see people running around in nanosuits and mechanized armor. So the helmets may be a tad OP at the moment? Whooptie. You're also false. Most ballistic helmets can deflect shots from most small arms fire from 50, 40, and even 30 yards with minimal to moderate trauma to the wearer. These round include .45 ACP, .357 Magnum, .22 LR, 9mm, .380, and from far enough ranges, 7.62x39 and 5.56 NATO. -
