    Nobody is talking about KoS. I'm talking about PvP. You still end up killing a player, so the result is the same.
  2. Before we go ANY further, I'd like to point out that I'm NOT talking about the Alpha, I'm talking months after release into the beta and/or full release. Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to use this thread as a discussion of what you personally think will make or break standalone as a game, mainly feature-wise. Feel free to post your own lists and give feedback or criticism on others lists (constructive). Here's mine: Make: (Semi-)Intelligent Zombie AIZombies aren't supposed to be 'smart' technically speaking, they're undead corpses. However, zombies in the mod are arguably worthless and agreeably annoying. I stopped being actually scared by zombies a week or two after I started playing the mod. What I think would make the standalone oh so much sweeter to play, would be a total revamp of how zombies work. Give them a hive mentality (if on zombie catches on to you, others do as well), give them more bodily endurance (lean more towards traditional zombie headshots to kill), and buff their damage so that people DON'T have the chance to survive an all out horde attacking them. For far too long have we dealt with pathetic zombies that seem to be in the mod merely to add the Z to DayZ. Yes, I know that zombies ARE being worked on in SA... obviously. Pathing, attacking, and functionality will all be different, but the way it is handled I think will either make or break the Standalone. Rag-doll EffectsYes, rag-doll effects. IMHO it's a crucial element of us having an immersive experience. How many times do you see someone get shot in the head and just fall all silly like? Or the ever hilarious zombie deaths that look like bad acting in a Shakespearean play. This is a 2013/2014 game, rag-doll effects are crucial and the technology has been here for years now. Who could ever disagree with something like this? A serious Health/Crafting systemThis is probably one of the most important things on the list. We HAVE to have something realistic. The mod doesn't do too bad when it comes to getting shot, damage is relative to area. But now that we have a separate engine aside from Arma II, I really hope it'll go much more in depth. Same going with food and drink. Hopefully the devs will make it more realistic. Who actually (and realistically) needs to drink and eat every half hour??? Make food and drink less common, and increase the time in-between when you need to perform such actions to survive. As for crafting... it's pretty self explanatory. Knives attached to guns with the option to use them as a melee weapon on zombies or players, flashlights on any gun, modifying vehicles, all of that. You know all those games that say that they have an amazing crafting system, and then you can't put anything on anything and it's impossible to figure out what to put on what? Don't let this be one of those... let it be simple and easy, but at the same time unforgiving with downsides. Character Value/DegradationThis is a tough one. How to add value to a character without adding an elaborate (and unwanted) skill system. This one is gonna be totally up to the devs as to what is done. Item and clothing degradation will hopefully be done with some leeway towards the user. Whatever is done, we really need to see more focus on the character themselves instead of what they're holding or wearing. Break: Dealing with the same bugs as in the modThis is what the Alpha is for, grinding and polishing. Not a whole lot to be said in this case other than hopefully all the kinks will be SWIFTLY handled. Heavy Focus on PvPThe most obvious one on here. It's the thing that destroyed the original feeling of the mod, and it's what will destroy the atmosphere of the Standalone if something isn't done to quell it. DayZ wasn't meant to be solely player on player, it was meant for people to have interactions and survive their environment (by also killing each other, but not for sport). Lack of post-apocalyptic feelRoads should be cracked, buildings should have moss on them, rooms and walls having blood and trash strewn across them. It just won't feel like being in an apocalypse if it doesn't look like it's one. Nobody is there to maintain anything after all. A Bad Base Building SystemTents.... God awful tents... Nobody ever should have to use a tent to store anything ever again... That's all from me for now. Feel free to share your lists or criticisms. I know many of these things have already been addressed and even confirmed, but this is not a "will it be there?" list, this is just a discussion of what you hope will be in the game, and what would make you want or not want to play it.

    You have to buy Arma II and Arma II Operation Arrowhead before you can play DayZ. I suggest using Steam and buying Combined Ops. If you can't afford it, I'm afraid you won't be able to play.

    Your entire mentality is that of an honest to god troll. Seriously. You shouldn't be worried about 'making a name' for yourself by killing people. That's just arrogance, plain and simple. Killing people for the plain and simple fact of making them mad makes you a troll, plain and simple. Sure there's a joy you get from winning a hard fought firefight, but taking pride in senselessly killing anyone and everyone is the exact reason that the game has taken such a sharp decline. You're part of the group that will break standalone when it comes out, if you're allowed to. Here's hoping the devs crank up the difficulty so high, that you won't know what hit you. Arma II is NOT DayZ. DayZ MOD is not DayZ anymore either. People have gotten into such a rhythm with what they do, that's it's too easy to be called DayZ anymore. I have a strong hope and feeling that SA will in fact change that.

  20. Lets see.... Worst thing. One day, I was in a really bad mood. Me and my buddy were pretty well geared on a server that we were regulars on. We usually played the passive type role, looting and only killing if we were shot at or in danger. That day, I decided enough was enough. I was sick of being nice. We grabbed our SUV and all the mags we could carry, and st off for the coast. When we came across a fresh spawn, or anyone for that matter, we got out. We told them over direct to drop everything and if they didn't comply or speak english, we killed them. If they ran, we killed them. If they came after us, we killed them. We probably killed a total of 5 or 6 fresh spawns and 3 geared players before we found someone to drop all their gear and accompany us to the SUV. His name was Timothy (innocent name). While he was in the SUV, we explained to them that they were now our 'bitch' and to refer to me as Bubba and my friend as Big Daddy (yeah, I know. rofl). We told him that he would be doing our bidding, and would keep us from getting our hands dirty. If he complied the entire time, we'd give him gear. We gave him a machete, and proceeded to drive down the coast. Whenever we saw a fresh spawn, me and my friend would both get out, shoot them in the legs, taunt them, and instruct Timothy to go up and hack their brains out with a machete. Honest to god, Timothy was hesitant the first few times, and he even apologized to the people before ruthlessly killing them. After awhile, he got used to it. He'd gladly get out and start running towards them to hack them to pieces before we had even shot them. Timothy murdered 22 fresh spawns that day. Much blood was spilled. When it was all over and done with, I was ready to log out... I had Timothy get out of the car, Iturned to him and said: "Timothy?" Timothy replied: "What Bubba?" (ROFLMFAO) "Do you see an orange light anywhere by me?" "No." "Well, you're on candid camera bitch." I then shot Timothy in the face point blank with my CCO. A clean death followed. Timothy logged out. Me and my friend giggled but mourned the loss of Timothy. And we logged off. Why did I kill poor Timothy? I ain't goin' down for that shit.
  21. Okay, maybe we all shouldn't hate Private Hives. They have done a lot for the community. HOWEVER, I don't believe the standalone should ever have private hives, and if they do, there should be EXTREME limitations put on them (no editing loot, no uber-customizations, and definitely no ability to mess with any player whatsoever). The standalone IMO needs to be focused on anti-hacking FIRST, and then have the second focus be pleasing people. We all loved how much the devs wanted to please us with the mod, but then we all hated the hacking. Flip the equation. Make us wait until all those douche-drinking shit-eating fart-sniffers have no possible way to muck up the game, and then release it. Then, do the same thing with Private Hives. Make it to where the P.O.S worthless admins that abuse and/or destroy the spirit and focus of the game cannot change anything truly important or crucial to DayZ.

    I can also do voice acting, and not just for myself. I'd better have a good role, and for some reason I really wanna be the one to kill Fraggle and orlok, and locking Inception in a freezer... I just see it working, it came to me in a thought. Aren't I brilliant? Everything about this thread screams official. It's a group project and if the community wants it to be official, it's official! Some certain somebodies need to cheer the fuck up. :D :D :D

    I need help at shooting and aiming

    Go into arma II -> multiplayer -> filter -> type "losi" into the mission and hit okay. Find a decent population server (3/12-9/12) and join it. Once you get in, walk up to the sign looking board and teleport to weapons. Pick out a gun and have fun. Try to live and practice aiming. Another easy and more calm way to practice is to play single player armory. Pick targets, maybe even do some challenges which pit you against AI. If you can start killing AI before they kill you, you'll have no issue with players.
