DayZ Developer Blog 15th April Highest one ever
liquidmind replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Rocket has replied to a few comments on reddit, giving a bit additional information. Thought I share it here for those who despise reddit ;-) http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1cdvan/highest_dev_blog_ever_give_me_karma/ 1) Pen and Paper are confirmed! They are already working. They are persistent on the character, but if put on the ground, they will disappear on server-restart. That will be fixed tough. 2) They purchased a middle-ware-software for radio-communication, so player can create their own radio-stations. 3) he is still alive. Everest is still cold. Air is still thin and he still plans on coming back. good news I'd say. (and even if I hate to admit it.. seeing rockets reply (from everest!) in my inbox on reddit this morning kinda made my day. Thx dean :-) ) -
The bigger cities agreeably have more diversity. But especially the suburb-buildings of the last decades sometimes cover huge areas, looking almost the same. That's less common elsewhere.

I start smiling when someone sprays his bullets on me. Usually that gives me 2-3 seconds to aim and make that one shot. I always imagine the players sitting in front of their pcs. holding down LMB, looking away from the screen screaming "make it go away"....

I think it's a matter of avaliability. If you have a fortified military base, with 100 zombies and one helicopter in it and it takes you a month of teamwork to get it running, it's a lot different from servers where you start with 5 already spawned, fully repaired helis ready to take off, with 2 m240s with 100 rounds each... I hope that the customization in standalone, as well as item degradation, energy-consumption, etc. will balance out everything. Even if you manage to get your hands on one of the few remaining NVGs, you'd have to have working batteries, a station to reload those batteries and access to Electricity. You'd have to take care that no direct light hits it, or it would destroy the light-sensor. It would be a bitch to keep that thing working, but if you managed to do so, you should get the advantage it provides. I really apreciate that rocket decided not to put vehicles into the initial release and to focus on simple items at first, to get back to the survivor-feeling many of us miss. But I have no problem with good gear, as long as it doesn't spawn everywhere and only gives more advantages, but no disadvantages. I sincerely hope, that the disadvantages of using certain tools will have an effect in the game. People should use their common sense to get around. At the moment, you have a worst and a best item and you start to have the best item of everything. In reality, there is no "best item", as it only depends on what you want to achieve. There are reasons why soldiers have small and large backpacks and don't run around with the biggest they have all the time. There is a reason, why they developed shorter and longer rifles. And there is a reason why soldiers don't run around with 5 boxes of 200 Rounds each in their backpack. If all those disadvantages of having those items come into the game, It will balance out more than just taking out weapons. the history has shown us that "unlock all weapons" is the most popular addition on private servers. Taking away the need to use those weapons because the disadvantages overweigh, is a more natural way to limit that. Imho.

Seems like "offtopic" is the topic here. @serious stan: he said "second map" But @ Topic: I think rocket mentioned something about a western-style map that is planned as a second map for dayZ. I do hope tough, that the "we only care about the US market" philosophy of some companies doesn't reach bohemia and it will be a european city. As most european cities grew over the centuries, it's more likely that they will choose an american or eastern-european City, as they usually contain less different buildings. (As they were constructed in a shorter timespan). If you ever walked through old cities like London, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, etc. You will notice that there are buildings with several hundred years of history between them, standing next to each other. Many more modern cities, like in many eastern-european states, have been built over a few decades, showing almost the same buildings all over the city. Even if I'd love to play in an old city with a mix of old and new buildings, people would complain if they took 2 years of development just because they wanted 100.000 different buildings in the map. If you have to build one house and you can cover 10 km2 with it, you can work much more efficiently. tl;dr: the best cities to play in are the most complex ones, the maps easiest to develop, are the least complex ones. They will probably try to find a good mix.

I don't understand why I get such low FPS
liquidmind replied to dramarlo's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You have a mobile-graphics-card in your pc. According to the specs of the graphcis-card, I'd say low-medium would be a nice setting for you. Also try to reduce the resolution. High-end graphics cards have a benchmark of 5000 or above that at the moment. Yours has about 1500. 30 FPS already is quite good here. I think I play with 15-25 atm... low settings. -
The 2 suggestions I liked most were: - facial expressions. - positive or negative to show if a player is friendly or hostile. - coloring - showing positive players more colorful and bandits a bit darker. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I'd prefer the facial expression, combined with the gear the player selected. I will not trust a hero, coming along with a bullet proof vest and a mk48. That's not hero-gear, I will not trust him to be a hero.

happened to me a few times. read that if you sit on the drivers seat before repairing it should work. destroyed a few items that way too.

Every backpack has the same slots!!!!! HELP!!
liquidmind replied to gselsidi's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
might be a stupid suggestion, but I have seen stupid things in dayZ happen a lot. The inventory is always the same size. You have to open your backpack seperately to see it's space. Some people confuse the inventory-space they see when they press G as the backpack, but that's not the case. -
I do hope that the two most important food-issues in human history do find their way into Standalone. Transforming food into something more nutritious and transforming food into something more durable. Rocket also suggested that people will have to watch for a balanced diet, to stay healthy. So there is a chance that "food" might not just stay "food" but transform into something more complex.

SA: Will we get lots of melee weapons?
liquidmind replied to Shrapnell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
fist-fighting + knife should be enough melee for me. I do hope that knife2face will be the favored silent-kill of the future. -
[SA, Map design] REAL incentives to team up.
liquidmind replied to WiFiN's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the main problem with teamwork-related features is, that having one or two friends, will take away all the need for teamwork with strangers. If you are a 3-man-team, being able to run wherever you want, do whatever you want, will not stop you from Killing on Sight. What I got from the Plans for leveling, it should be very difficult for a team of 3 to have all the skills required to survive. One might specialize as a medic, one as a builder and one as a mechanic, but at one point you might need to rely on the help of others to accomplish something. But I agree that the new spawn-mechanics themselves will change a lot about gameplay. Having them all spawn on server-start, will quickly deplete the most obvious looting-spots, driving players into more distant regions. Not having a few spots that everyone loots over and over again, will vastly reduce player-encounters and therefor player kills. Currently, camping in cherno, elektro, stary or at nwaf will definitely get you some kills within the next hours. once people spread more, camping in one spot will be less efficient and people will get bored of it faster than they do now. -
So does anyone else ever have that instant feeling of regret when they kill someone?
liquidmind replied to LeastDionysus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In Game it is like in the real world.. Those who see it as a real experience, feel regret for their actions. those who see it as a game, with the need for themselves to prove their strength, to be taken for full by everyone else, they will feel joy for their achievement. What I learned the last few days was, that some people are willing to test themselves. They use DayZ to get into situations they wouldn't want to go in real life, to experience their own reactions and the reactions of others. Others just want to escape reality, and play a stupid, meaningless game, where they can forget all their frustrations and just be an ass for a while. In my opinion, if you think that dayZ is just a game, you missed the point, that life itself is just a game too, and like every game there is, the rules you play it with, determine the outcome. Be it the game of life or dayz. -
As I read between the lines, the main issue still is to maintain a stable and fast client-server-connection. They make it right, people complain about them taking so long. they release early. hackers have an easy go. people complain about their lousy work. But as today, saturday, is scheduled to be a "day off" for the everest-expedition, we'll probably know more soon.

I observed that the numbers don't really change there. So I don't think they represent correct counts. I suppose it is the number of distinct servers for a mod they recorded. When a Server-Owner switches through the maps, it might count that server again and again for each map, no matter what map it runs currently or if it's running at all. But yes, I have observed that commander shows far less than the 6000 servers it suggests. I think a lot of offline-servers are counted there too.

Make private hives come under same rules as public for abuse
liquidmind replied to dgeesio's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I think private servers will always exist. That's a part of the concept, when allowing the community to mod. It is not possible to allow people to write mods, without allowing them to host them. But that doesn't change the fact, that all you need to do at the moment is checking the "hide unofficial"-box in your server-browser and you can achieve the same thing with one push of a button, that having huge restrictions on the game would have, without limiting the possible benefits from modding. Why is there a need to ban everything they don't like in so many people? Can't you just appreciate that you already got what you wanted. public servers. and coexist with those who want something else? I hostet public and private Servers so far and I think there is a place for both of them. If you don't like one branch, don't play it. -
I had set up a base recently. Moving my Mi Heli to the base, slightly underestimating the steepness of the terrain and damaging it while landing. Spent all day fixing up an Ural on the other side of the map and collecting the materials to repair mi MI back up to full health. Drove the Ural through toughest terrain back to base, repaired my Mi successfully and decided, that the steep terrain it was sitting on, was just a little bit too uncomfortable for me, so I tried to move it a bit to the side. Slightly lifting the heli from the ground, I realized that it drifted heavily into the direction of the forest next to me, even tough I was just trying to gain height. In a very short-sighted reaction, I oversteered in the oposite direction, for my Mi to turn fully to it's side and crash down, blowing up and taking my Ural with all I had collected that day with it. Somehow I got out of the heli and survived with almost no blood. But lost a full days work and more in a split second. And no one else to blame but me... Lessons learned: - do not park your Ural next to your landing-site - If you crash your Mi 2 times in a row, stick to your huey...

Hello , I need a server to bend in.
liquidmind replied to Silentine's topic in New Player Discussion
In what world is "Learn to play Call of Duty" a good recommendation for someone saying he is not interested in playing it like call of duty? Making the kill is not "being good". In an open world game, being able to achieve what you want to do, is being good. Being forced to adapt to a style by others, can never be considered learning to be good. -
For a while now, Crash-sites are created randomly throughout the game. Before that they were all created on server-start. I have made the observation, that servers running for very long (12 hours, 24 hours,...) without reboot, tend to get crowded with crash-sites. It seems as if after a few hours, a lot more are spawned than within the first hours of a servers start. I had a server once, with 30 or more crashsites, just around nwaf. 5 on the airfield itself. 12 or so on the field south east of it. and several more around.. looks awesome at night :-)

I don't hope that there are any DLCs, but I hope that Map, Game and Ingame-Objects become 3 different things, as those are the 3 main things that people change in their mods. DLCs for me are always tied to "pay extra". something I don't like for micro-content. But I'd accept additional content to be downloaded, as long as it is optional and free. Having the option to select severa maps to play on. Different versions, as buildings might be added or removed and the Mission-file that can either be vanilla dayZ or an extended community mod, would be enough I think. Something Like "DayZ (Vanilla) on Chernarus (Vanilla)" might be an official server, "DayZ (Vanilla) on Namalsk (Vanilla)" would be regular dayZ on another map (namalsk) and "DayZ (Custom) on Chernarus (Custom)" would be a customized game-file with customized chernarus-map. So if you saw a server "DayZ (Plus) on Chernarus (Plus)" you'd know that it is a modified game-version ("plus") with a map, customized for it, while "DayZ (Plus) on Chernarus (Vanilla)" would be a modified game on the regular map, without changes. tl:dr: I'd like a clearer definition of what is in a mod, rather than additional DLCs. It's often impossible to say what a server offers, unless you read the often non-existing description or join.

That's nothing.. Last 2 times I relogged into the game, When I got teleported away to get my hero-skin, the game created 2 versions of me. So there is a clone of me, standing right next to me, having all my gear.... Good for practicing headshots, and awesome to freak out your friend "I'm already in camp" while waiting with the dinnerbell around the corner... :-) but starts to be annoying. Luckily I play on my own server, so when I get teleported into the ocean I can reset my own position, but still annoying.

I'm all for replacing primary and secondary with 2 slots that can each hold 1 primary OR 2 secondaries. 2 pistols, 1 pistol and a flashlight, 1 rifle.. should all be possible. only problem is how to make controls for dual-wield so that it doesn't suck :-)

Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?
liquidmind replied to Maloney (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you have to make a difference, between telling someone how he should play a single-player-game and having a multiplayer-game-style, that forces other people to play in a very specific way. You Just cannot compare singleplayer games with multiplayer games. Zombies Agro on voice. There is no other game I could think of, where NPC-Enemies would react on your voice. Having TS here is like an invisibility-cheat enabled. -
Does this only happen on the takistan server or on every other server since?

Don't want to bring your hopes down, but as I get it DayZ+ is no longer continued. dayzplus.com doesn't even exist anymore and there hasn't been a post in dayz+ subreddit for month. I think the + developers split up to do several other projects. But you can find all the recipes on the dayz+ wiki http://dayzplus.wikia.com/wiki/Construction
