Melee weapons should go into the sidearm slot

I believe you should have no slots at all, but two hands :-) Whatever you don't have in your hands, needs a place to be put at. Humans have 2 hands. not more, not less.

    I'm new, hello.

True... If you ever had a joint in your mouse-hand, when suddenly shot at or getting some unexpected zombie-love, it's really difficult to play and not burn holes in your mousepad... But other than that, you can always hide in a tree if you need to roll one up. And if you die.. well.. you just don't give a fuck. Not as important as finding out wether there's some of the ice-cream left you bought the other day. :-) location = scotland. water?... yeah right :-)

    Headshots should be instant death

I think it is an issue of the desync between clients. Somehow what you see is not always what happens. I have seen players bleeding from the head running around, so it is possible to survive a headshot, but I don't think that's intentional. As I understood it. Insta-death in arma is calculated by a body-part-multiplicator, that determines how much damage a hit to each part does. On the head, it is just freakishly high, so any damage will kill you. But as weapon-damage varies by weapon and range, I'd suppose sometimes values below 12000 can occur, letting you survive. It should be very rare, but it is possible at the moment. Bothers me less than the 5 seconds it takes for the other player to fall to the ground after being hit tough.

New patch coming soon to dayz

I get why those stashes should not hold to many weapons, but this also affects tools, as they are all weapons in tents and cars. Considering that those would be perfect to create a little life-insurance-stash close to the coast, to drop a map and some beans into, I'd like to see the volume tweaked a bit upwards. Not because it should be a weapons-stash, but because having spare tools in it would really make sense. Is there any way to limit it so it would hold only tools or only tools and handguns, but not rifles? I think that would be a perfect compromise for small stashes. Any thoughts about a 1000ml Bloodbag regenerating 6000ml of Blood? Always found that to be a bit odd. The average Heart-rate pumps about 5 liters each minute. In my opinion, the bloodbag should regenerate 1000 blood pretty fast. (20sec-animation) but require two players to stay put. Food should regenerate over a longer period of time. I think up to 20 minutes to fully heal (multiple meals) would be an acceptable healing-duration to get back to full health, but if it took hours to heal, people would probably be upset. If people would auto-heal, using up 2 water 1 food each 1 blood, sitting still would regenerate blood and make you more hungry and thirsty over time. Eating tons of food wouldn't help you anymore. All that would work, would be waiting to be hungry again until blood reached acceptable levels. But Still, very very excited about the changes so far. not a fan of the starters-makarov, but that aside, really good changes. Just thought if you have to wait to release, why not add some suggestions :-) keep up the good work.

    Heli Experts

We had a few problems repairing vehicles too. Sometimes the part disappears, but the car remains broken. If you sit on the drivers-seat before repairing, this doesn't happen. If you are two or more people, let one sit in the drivers seat and then repair everything. no one should touch the car in the meantime. That usually works. For helis. The glass needs to fixed or it leaks fuel. Seems like the fueltank is made of glass here. It's not true that you have to repair every part for every vehicle tough, as some cars have wheel2 and middle-wheel items, that are not needed (but seem to prolong the life of a car if repaired) Edit: but I also had fun once, after I repaired my Mi 17, took off and suddenly back rotor and engine where red, turning me around without control. I somehow managed to get the bird down and got out alive, but when I checked the heli a minute later, everything was green and it took off without any problems... Seems to be buggy sometimes...

Forgive me if im missing something

I like the new starting-gear better than the old one. But bandage + random (flashlight, knife, matches) would help out more. painkillers are pretty useless unless you already have a gun; the second bandages wont help out either and roadflares, atm, are more like cans and razors than real items... Before they add stuff people can't use, maybe just bandages + chemlight when you spawn during nighttime and bandages + bandages if you spawn during daytime. So at least we'd start with a balanced amount of nothing.

Not a new player, but almost no PvP

I'd call that RPG responding to FPS. It seems like you react to the environment. I think the main difference is wether you identify yourself with this one life of the character or if you don't see a character at all, only looking for targets to shoot. I find it difficult to point out the exact difference, but when I die f.e. in CounterStrike, I am pissed for a moment because my attempt failed, but I don't feel I lost a life. When I played a month on a diablo 2 hardcore server and lost my level 60 character with lots of good gear on him, forever, it was a real loss. I think the amount of emotional investment in a character is what makes the difference between RPG and FPS.

    first kill on dayz

My first kill was getting ambushed at NEAF by a guy others on the server had warned me about. I was cautious because of that. He had As50 and m4a1 CCO SD on him, shot with the M4 first, but switched to As50 after a few missed shots. So I found myself in one of the hangars, prone on the floor, aiming my AIM at the edge of the hangar-door. slight move to the side. Aim to the upper chest. One bullet. Tango down. But he was just a troll who tried to piss of people on the server for a while, obviously not a very good one. Still don't get why this idiot came on the airfield, when he had a rifle that exceeded the range of everything we had on us. Got nice gear out of it tough :-D As50, CCO SD, NVG, Rangefinder, GPS.. everything... the luck gave it, the thunderdome-hack took it away few days later...

Not a new player, but almost no PvP

When it Comes to PVP, it's 1/3 skill, 1/3 seeing first and 1/3 luck. There are situations, where no amount of Skill will get you out alive. There are situations, where you do everything right, but die due to bad luck. (broken bone on a staircase, zombie aggro through a wall, ...) But in the few cases, where it makes a difference, being focused, keeping a cool head and knowing how to use your weapon best against the weapon of your opponent, is what gets you out alive. But I'd say, the fewest of all player encounters are contests of skill. In General, the one who sees first and makes the decision to kill first is the one to survive, when bullets have to fly. So being a Roleplay-Gamer really sucks, when you meet someone who in your world seems to roleplay a psychopath, just out there to kill. Especially if you want to try the peaceful version before shooting, your life depends wether the other one is a First-Person-Shooter or a Role-Play-Gamer. In my opinion, the biggest problem at the moment is, that FPS and RPG Players play the same game, on the same servers, in the same time. That's like having a Map where one half tries to build mine-craft-style while the other half plays WorldWar 3 shooting around nukes. Some way to resolve those conflicts between those 2 entirely different, but equally valid types of gameplay will certainly be needed in the future or one of those 2 groups will be extremely disappointed and leave. (Lucky for us, at the moment it looks like the FPS-Players will be disappointed with SA. ) I suppose the term Bambi stuck because it somehow perfectly describes how unarmed freshspawns are in a way innocent little animals who are more likely to be eaten, then to prey on someone themselves, who very likely are at the very moment coping with the recent death of a loved-one. Their old Character. But it's interesting how the word grew from a "look at that little bambi" by one streamer in a video to being used by the whole community to describe or insult. memes ftw. :-)

Why DayZ will fail as a standalone game

My theory is that most will loose their interest before SA releases. The few who know what they are actually waiting for will still buy it, it will still be successful but buggy. like expected. Over the month following that, more and more content will be added and people remembering that there once was something like DayZ they have been waiting for might look into it, fall in love again and start playing. So the community starts to grow again. All in all, that's a good thing. The patient Playerkillers will be gone. The servers wont be that crowded and when everything is stable and full of content, people will come. If 1 million people buy standalone on the first day it's out, then it's going to fail. Because the 750.000 who don't understand how the game will be when it's released will be so pissed about it, that they wont play it again. But that's just my personal theory. I hope it doesn't release before September, so school-vacations don't spoil all the servers in the beginning.

    Coincidence?

Happened to me once or twice that I spawned in twice. Exact same player model, exact same gear, but no one controlling the second "me". But those usually don't shoot. Could have been that bug. Fun to kill yourself with a headshot tough :-D

    People shooting freshspawns

what they think is a threat! Usually not every threat we fight is real...
  14. I never really liked the idea of storage-tents. People would more likely build boxes out of wood to store stuff in. If tents were replaced with boxes ( 2 wood, 1 scrapmetal f.e.) that could be built everywhere, taking stuff out and leaving the box behind would be the most useful thing to do, as boxes can be constructed everywhere. The whole need for deconstructing tents comes from people always looking for tents. If the most basic storage-unit could be crafted, that would reduce more tensions than creating a new "glitch or thief"-problem. (people bothering admins all the time because their tent glitched away)
  15. liquidmind

    People shooting freshspawns

some people prefer goals that are simple. Like raising the "player killed" number on their virtual penis. Combine the inability to fight good players with the desire to raise your own kill-count and you have Newspawn-KOS. tl;dr: yes. Dicks. short, prepuberty dicks.

    Hitmarkers, yay or nay?

I liked how the character moved when the bullet hit him. I think a visual feedback of the body being hit would be enough. I don't know if the new ragdoll system will allow individual bodyparts to be pushed back, but that probably the best aid to see wether you hit or not. But considering other aids, "NO GUI" is the actual trend. So everything that is displayed on the screen, that you would not see in real life, should not be displayed on the screen.

    Help Please

usuall mistakes: 1) have you started Arma 2, Arma 2 OA and Arma 2 OA beta through Steam before starting DayZ via Commander? (that's needed for registry-information) 2) have you updated Arma2 Beta-Patch to the latest version (in commander works best)? If you followed those 2 steps, it should work. Beta-Patch is a bit easy to overlook, that's a common mistake, as steam doesn't update it as automatically as commander would.
  18. Helicopters are overpowered too, but no one complains about them, because they are hard to get, require tons of materials to get flying, require hours to refuel and even if you are an experienced pilot, the occasional crash resulting in death still happens. Razor recently asked what we think about a realistic wind engine, that affects the trajectory of bullets. That's one limitation I like, that really affects how a sniper can work. Many argue, that long-range shots are possible in real life, but fail to mention, that those snipers usually have a spotter to help them out with wind, distance, humidity and all the other data they need to calculate how to aim. Arma offers realistic measuring with Scopes, like you could with real scopes, still setting markers or getting the exact values through the GUI makes it very very easy. Windspeeds never change. I hate that so many people have an instinct to ban everything they don't understand. Won't you understand that prohibition never worked, does not work now and will never work? The only reason people use them now is because the game rewards them for doing so. In the end, every sniper-rifle is a precision instrument that needs to work togehter with weather-data and experience to be efficient. Any player who is able to do all the calculations in his head, who has all the instruments to get the information he needs, should be able to be a killer-sniper. But a little bored kid who got lucky with his loot, shouldn't be able to terrorize a whole Server, just because shooting at 300m is easier in-game than shooting at 30m would be in real life.

The time you just couldn't do it...

for me, that's the real beauty of dayZ. You go in, you do what seems natural, and then you start to think about it. Biggest mistake you can make: Thinking that it's just a game.

Why does everyone have a hat?

    * looking at avatar * .... Obama WITHOUT hat..... *headscratch*
  21. Just wanted to add. you don't need to spawn in vehicles on a private Epoch server... I'm playing for 2 days now with a friend on our own server, whe already have 2 armored suv, a huey, 2 tank-trucks, 1 ural, 2 Hmmv, 3 tents and regular SUVs in 5 colors. Imagine what a Team of 5 or 6 could achieve in the same time, also without spawning in anything. Edit: but as a fact, the only reason we both have NVGs is, because I bought the wholesale-box. Still don't have Rangefinder or GPS, as both are not for sale at the moment. But all the commerce-issues are nothing compared to how fast you bleed out in epoch compared to other mods. Both of us died at least once, because we bled out within 20 seconds from being hit, while the knockout-animation would have taken about 5 minutes to finish.
  22. I am all for the challenge, but you should accept rockets terms. He has only killed 1 or 2 players so far, according to his own statement, so If you manage to play a year without killing more than 2 other people, you win. If not, he wins. What about that challenge?

    can you play dayz offline

The information here given is not entirely correct. 1) DayzMod can be played as a single-player-mission. There has ben a new one released a few weeks ago. You just need to download it separately. 2) Rocket himself said, that they are looking into a single-player-option in standalone and that it is possible that there will be one. Even tough nothing is confirmed yet, saying it is impossible is wrong.

Your idea of the "perfect" server?

All I know is, that if 1st person is enforced, I will never set foot in a vehicle again. Driving 1st person just sucks. If so, I'd certainly buy a private server and do all I can to enable it again. The only reason I see why people would want 3rd person off, is to be seen less easy by the players they want to kill. I do not see dayZ as a game, that's goal is to wait on players and kill players. Therefor I dislike everything that encourages PVP but discourages Roleplay. Imo.. 3rd person + Aiming are the only 2 views needed... You run around in 3rd, but aim when shooting. Shooting from the hip should have a HUGE disadvantage and you should not be able to hit at all.
  25. liquidmind

Your idea of the "perfect" server?

If you somehow managed to have NPC-bases, that are protected by NPCs against enemies it would be perfect, but I don't know if that's even possible in arma. In Stalker, the trader-cities were protected by highly armed NPCs, who shot on sight at enemies (bandits at military, military at bandits,..) If a player decided to pull his gun in town and shoot, the guards attacked him. So you aren't kicked or banned when shooting, but the NPCs declare you as a hostile, not allowing you to even get close to the city. That's something I'd like to experience in dayZ at least once. I am not entirely sure how it would affect the gameplay, but I imagine it to be very rewarding. You want into town. you have to play by their rules or they will shoot. As any group building a city in a survival scenario would demand you to.
