Correct gun & item names for the standalone please
liquidmind replied to -Leon-'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
the only reason you can use different ammo with the guns is that you cannot put bullets in mags individually. I cannot tell you, why you can transform some mags like dmr/m24, but not other ammo the same caliber, but considering that weapons are completely remade I think we will see some changes here in SA. -
Do we deserve a devblog update this week?
liquidmind replied to Raged's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, it depends on how devoted a mod is. 4-6 hours a day was a usual thing for my mods :-) but other than that I agree with you in a way. I just don't think that my personal opinion in the matter wheter the cans should be in or not is important. I think the community as a whole could have decided that. In a way like it is done now, by people spreading alpha-maps for cans around, so people can submit their own designs. Most will be horrible probably. But some might give ideas or inspire for better versions. In the end, we will have the best result, as the whole community worked togehter. My main issue with the cans wasn't the names or how they looked, but that they fellt pressed into the release. I felt that they should have been given more time. Considering how major the other issues in the patch were, I didn't understand why anyone would press those into it. There was enough to show for in this patch anyways. -
Is the term "bandit" losing meaning?
liquidmind replied to unkillable94's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
true.. a bandit should shoot, when the other guy tries to run or shoot back. 1 bullet. Hopefully bloody clothes will get a high risk of infection. or we can come back as zombies and have our revenge... but some way shooting on sight has to have a downside in the future. of some kind at least. -
Looks like you completely misunderstood the situation. people on reddit where complaining that they didn't like the cans and would have liked a saying in the process. people from the forum then told them to shut up, because the opinion of reddit-users isn't important and they should find their own game if they don't like it. That's when the things escalated. The fight was never about cans, it was about wether there is a large community or a small group that gives a shit about everyone elses opinion. I for myself, am more frequent on reddit at the moment, as there are people there, actually making suggestions on how to improve gameplay. Some problems have been solved on reddit, in threads that rocket himself is aware of (as he commented there), weeks ago, that are suggested here as something completely new now. Still some people here behave, as if the forum was the core of the process, lightyears ahead of everyone else and all those suckers aren't even worth to be listened to. But yeah. it's all about a few idiots who didn't like the design but had no idea of the game whatsoever.. just keep telling yourself that. it's a lot easier not to look beneath the surface...

Reading the topic I thought this means having a save for yourself to store your gear in... I dislike that. But the "random gun safes" as lootspots idea I really like! I think there have been safes suggested before, but them being gunsafes not. Considering that money-safes usually are a lot thicker than gun-safes (metal-box with a lock usually is enough) it would also take away the problem, that no one actually would know how to open a real safe once the apocalypse started. Those things were made that they don't open. Breaking open a metal box that was locked should be a lot easier.

Weight as a factor, Ability to see items placed in vehicles.
liquidmind replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That's exactly the point. Usually the "small things" we carry around the most, are the heaviest. Many people walk around with 2 or 3 fuel-cans in their inventory. foodcans, sodacans, ammo? all heavy as shit. If you refuel the car, you should be able to run the to big tank, but have to walk back to compensate for the extra weight. It should be everyone's own job to choose what to take with him. As well as I am of the opinion, that those .50 cal rifles and the LMGs should not work with a backpack, like it does in arma. having no limitation with those weapons is one of the reason everyone runs around using either one of them. I hate that everyone runs around with a SAW as if it was an assault-rifle with extra damage. I doubt that anyone would hit anything shooting as SAW from the hips in real life. -
Do we deserve a devblog update this week?
liquidmind replied to Raged's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
true. the survey showed, that about 25% disliked the cans, 20% loved them and the rest was somewhere between. I do not think that the cans actually where the problem. As I see it it was more of a "what the fuck are those cans" -> " how dare you criticize the cans" -> "i can criticize what I want" -> "no you have stupid ideas" -> "no you have stupid ideas" -> "no you have stupid ideas" -> "no you have stupid ideas"........ it was a trigger, but I think the overall "my opinion is better than yours" view that's very very common in this community nowadays did the rest all by itself. People usually have a hard time sticking to one topic so they change over time. -
Weight as a factor, Ability to see items placed in vehicles.
liquidmind replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I dislike the concept out of one reason: Size determines, how many pieces you can put into your pack. weight determines, how easy you can carry it. There should be no "backpack can hold 20kg" rule, as 1 empty fuel-can has the same size as 1 full fuel-can, but with a very different weight. I agree that there could be a max-weight for it, so if you put more in it it can break. But limiting the inventory to weight would be a step back. Having size for the quantity-limit and the weight determining your speed ist the best implementation of exhaustion I could think of. -
Sick of being Killed for no reason
liquidmind replied to Irenicus (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Of course you can avoid it. I personally choose servers with fewer people as I prefer to play a bit faster but less careful. But I'd be happy if at least Ammo was a lot more rare. Close quater isn't that bad either as most people have a really hard time aiming on very short distances. But a sniper, in a ghillie, that knows what he's doing, kills with his first shot. Any sniper, needing a second bullet, is a bad sniper. -
Sick of being Killed for no reason
liquidmind replied to Irenicus (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I really hope the ingame com will be as good one day, that NO ONE will use TS or skype anymore. 80% KoS, because they are afraid of the 1% who would pretend to be their friend but betray them. Very mature, to shoot on sight, just so you don't have to have a specific experience of the game. takes guts to take the risk. -
Community Food and Drink Textures!
liquidmind replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
thank you very much, I hope I will have some time the next days to make one of my own. haven't had a reason to start up photoshop for a while.. might have a small layer of dust by now :-) -
sorry matt... but 2 players, 1 car and the changing icon that tells you wether a tent is empty or not would take 2 bandits far less time to find the tent with your gear, than it would take you to set up everything by hand. you'd have to put at least 1 item in every tent to make it hard enough. I found a camp like that once with about 20-30 tents, forming a labyrinth. Took me 10 minutes to check them all, even without destroying any. I do not think it's possible to place 30 tents within 10 minutes. But having said that. Oring-Map uses small boxes instead of tents. Any chance we could get those in the future? they are so easy to hide. :-)

[3D model] Different Food Qualities (3/29 Update)
liquidmind replied to joeyslucky22's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I guess about 90% of the people complaining didn't even know the mods. I really do not believe that jealousy played an role. I think the fact that the name of some people they didn't even know was put into their game, on an item that they will encounter several times a day, without having been given any warning in advance or being asked, was the main issue. Just people seeing who and what dayz and it's community are differently and didn't communicate in a way that they could have noticed before the incident. -
[3D model] Different Food Qualities (3/29 Update)

I thought changing the letters of your name to cyrillic might do the job: мЗЛЫ (cyrillic converter). No one could say that's not atmospheric. -
Revolutionary Idea that would change the way you play DayZ... forever *dun dun dun*
liquidmind replied to OfficerRaymond's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ever tried to change clothes in the first floor of a building? glitches you back under the house and kills you... but as there is also a "die on respawn" glitch and changing clothes will spawn you to debugland and back, you are still alive an have all your gear when you log back and even have your corpse there to loot.... 2-story-buildings are horrible somtimes... -
I suggested it a couple of times. Maps you can draw on and GPS that can save some coords. It is not possible to do that in the Mod, as all the equipment is a String. So if you have a map, you have "the map". In standalone, most, but I hope all, items will be objects. So if you have a map, it is different to the map another player has, because they are 2 different objects of the same type. I am going to continue suggesting it until it's in SA or Dean gives a definite NO tough. :-D

Not that it matters much, but if you want optimal performance it's recommended to have RAM as a multiple of the cores you have. 2GB per core is in general a good rule of thumb. As most games only adress 4GB Ram and some even don't use all the cpu-cores, it won't matter with most games, but if you want to get the best performance out of what you got, I'd recommend to upgrade to 8GB Ram for performance or reduce to 4GB for price issues, as 6GB is difficult to be evenly spread on 4 CPUs, reducing the total max your PC will achieve. (just to be clear: I'd recommend 8GB )

Should there be a campaign for dayZ stand alone?
liquidmind replied to PuRe DAYZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The question is, wether the game and wether the player should have a story. The game definitely should. We need at least some vague facts about what happend and what's going on. But as rocket already implied a few times that he already has a great explanation worked out with his brother, that's going to be the case anyway I think. The player himself on the other hand... no... never... don't see it... At best a general explanation why players start where they start. wether we were living in chernarus, fleeing the city and started or just arrived to chernarus because of whatever reason.. but I would hate to see any storyline that I should follow. Even if I don't have to follow it. -
Dayz No PvP and No hackers
liquidmind replied to Maxwell(friendly)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I think people who are proud of killing players on non-pvp-servers are the same as people who are proud of killing people using cheats on regular servers. When a private server introduces rules. Follow the rules or accept that you are the cheater. No one forces you to play on this server. This is not the only server there is. If you do not intent to play on non-pvp-servers, it shouldn't matter whether they exist or not. The total amount of servers that allow pvp is the same with or without them. Edit: I've known people who edited Wolfenstein 3d, not to include ANY enemy, just because they wanted to run around looking at the map without disturbance. That was never intended by the game-makers. It makes no sense at all to 99% of all people. But why in the world shouldn't he be allowed to do so? It doesn't hurt anyone. -
What about making a "hardware recommendation"-thread in general? I5 3750k 3.4GHz seems to be the processor of choice at the moment. for for most modern games, any 2.x GHz Quadcore will suffice. Radeon GTX 670 seems like a good bang for buck choice for me (5312 benchmark for 360$) GeForce GTX Titan would probably be the best to get, but I don't know if 9000+ benchmark is worth the $1400 it costs. My personal graphics have about 4400 benchmark, that's enough for low-medium. (Benchmarks) Ram: 4-8GB is more than enough. there is NO 32bit game that can adress more than 4GB ram. that is the absolute limit for 32bit applications. In general, 2GB per CPU-core isn't a bad idea tough. if you want do do HD-Streaming, get 16GB to have enough left for HD video signal. Harddisk: At least 7200rpm. Preferably SSD. Reading from harddisk is currently a bottleneck considering speed. People with slow HDDs but f.e. 16GB ram could use a ram-drive instead of an SSD. Taking those things into consideration should give you a PC that can play any PC game there is atm.

To those who look down on bandits/pvp...
liquidmind replied to daspope's topic in New Player Discussion
I think there is a certain group, that is scriptkiddies, KOS and Noobsniping in one. Those are people who do not have the self-confidence to be happy with their lifes by themselves, they need to prove that they are better than other, by degrading them. What they all have in common is, that they are looking for the easiest way to get kills, that has the least risk for them of getting killed themselves. Some are better at the game, some are worse. The better ones find themselves an as50 and a ghillie and start shooting at noobs, because that's easy for them. The medium talented, try the game, shoot on sight but never take any risk. The less talented epicly fail playing the game the way it's supposed to, so they buy cheat-software to enable godmode and get the loot they'd never get otherwise. It's a very broad group, where not everyone who would KoS or go on noobiehunt would use cheats. Some wouldn't even think about using it. But that's mainly because they can have success on their own and not using cheats boosts their ego more than doing so. If they'd suck at the game, they'd use cheats too.. I've seen a lot of scriptkiddies and trolls who bragged that they have so many cd-keys that banning them is useless and they use so many proxies that no one will ever find them. They build their own self-confidence over the fact that they can troll people and no one can stop them. Those people need help. But I think it's important to recognize, that it's not the way they harm the game that unites them, but the underlying mental condition that's causing it. But I don't think grievers are a big problem tough. There are some who bitch around everytime, but that's rather funny than annoying. On the other hand, pointing out that KoSing a player with a hatchet, watching an area with binoculars, is kind of unnecessary happened to get the attention of other players in that area, causing them to start hunting he player who KoSed me. I think that's adding to gameplay, rather than destroying it. But of course, the way you express your anger is very important. Some just spam the side-channel, cursing their killer.. that's not really appropriate behavior. The way people react to getting killed is a very important source of information to me, wether I can trust that player when I encounter him or not. I wouldn't want to miss that. -
To those who look down on bandits/pvp...
liquidmind replied to daspope's topic in New Player Discussion
There still seems to be a lot of confusion about the words. Bandit is not PVP is not KoS is not Playerkilling. Those are 4 completely different things, that happen to include killing another player. The Problem are people who KOS out of fear to be killed, and call that "being a bandit". Just because they wont admit that they'd shit their pants if they let the other player live. The second problem are Playerkillers, who think it's the only goal of the game to piss other people off by killing them. Those people have the same mentality as cheaters. They want to destroy other peoples gameplay for their own ego. EVERY other PVP action is ok with me. But like many people pointed out already. It should be a calculation wether it's worth the risk or not every time. I do not have to kill a newspawn with a makarov, that didn't even see me and is already leaving the area. I usually get very pissed when I find my body after I got killed, and all the gear is still on my body. I'm the type of player who shoots only at other players, when shot at first. This caused a lot of unnecessary death for me, but I can live with that. But when I find out i was only killed, because the other guy saw me there and wanted to shoot. That there was NOTHING he would have wanted from me.... that's just unnecessary and stupid. If you are in the middle of the map, on a server where 5 people are online, and you see a guy 500m away from you, running in a completely different direction than you, there is no need to snipe him away if you don't need anything. I think that's the main issue I have. "making the kill" is not the highest level of success a bandit can have. Getting the Gear, is the highest level of success a bandit can have. A bullet in the head of a newspawn from 2000m distance is worth as much as missing your target by 2000m. If you don't get any loot out of it, it was a bullet wasted. -
I'd call this the "tree bug" don't think they can do anything about it. Is the same with tents, if they intersect the stem of the tree and players/zombies standing in the tree, getting hit. Seems like the branches of the trees block everything.

Bandit Hunting, are Bandits the good guys?
liquidmind replied to CF Mallard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
good news for you. In standalone, neither the bandit skin, nor the cherno hotel will be included, so you have a pretty safe bet here. (great name btw. )
