    Scoped Lee Enfield

The real great thing about it was, that you could get really upset after finding the 3rd and 4th soviet silencer and soviet scope, when you just wanted a freaking scope for your m4. I really hope that there will be civilian and military expansions of different types. Rifle + flashlight + ducttape was suggested a few times. Bayonet also. If they only implement the different military scopes, barrel-length and picatinny attachements alone, each military grade rifle will already have a lot of different improvements. The same for soviet military + a few attachements for civilian rifles, and we'd have a very colorful range of weapons, even with only a few basic rifle models. Can't wait to see what they will give us :-) tl;dr: i hope there are different attachements for different weapons, so they become harder to find but more individualized.

    changing main weopon to hatchet?

my few cents: if you decide to pick up a weapon, you decide not to use the hatchet. if you have to use the hatchet, because you cannot kill silently any other way, you either have to put your gun down or not take it in the first place. I know it's unrealistic, but in a way it's one of the few things where you have to decide wether you take an item or not. I personally stick to my hatchet until I have a gun that allows to kill silently. It's a limitation like not being able to carry a lot of loot if you insist on carrying 2 main-weapons. If there is a melee-slot in SA, where you can equip a melee weapon too, I wouldn't be against it. But at the moment I don't mind that you have to switch. Considering that the hatchet is 1-hit-kill on zombies. it's fair that you can't use it all the time. There was a time when you could equip the crowbar in addition to your main-weapon and switch through context-menu. Considering that crowbar is a lot weaker, I thought that was a good compromise. A hatchet that can be drawn very quick, that kills with 1 hit, without a noise, would be too overpowered. Making the hatchet weaker, would have people complain.
  3. I think there is a confusion by some between "globally banned" and "banned on a private server" It's very easy to get banned on private servers. Since many Server-Rules are not enforced, but don't even apply on private servers, some admins even ban for killing them. I got banned for 20min once, because I had chat on `-key and whenever I typed, that symbol was the first in my line and I got banned for using symbols. But that's a server-ban, not a global ban. Many people see "banned" as one and the same thing. So if someone says he got a global ban for chatting, that's not necessarily what has happened. my few empty tin-cans... Especially since you don't "buy" a game anymore. You Buy the right to use the game, while the game is not your own. People tend to forget that. They should send "didn't read the TOS"-Tshirts to everyone demanding his rights ;-)

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

I liked the idea, that some tasks might be only possible when done in a group. (f.e. lifting a broken motorcycle onto your car to move it; Building bigger things; etc.) and other things to be done faster when done in a group. (f.e. repairing cars. 2 people are faster than one). In a real survivor scenario, a lone wolf would live in a small, hidden camp, while large groups might be able to fortify a larger object. I would like to see a balance, that considers these differences. That allows a lone wolf, to build his small hidden camp, have small stashes. But if he wanted go bigger, he'd have to trust other people or he will never get it done. In end-game aspects I'd even love to see projects that require 10 or 20 players to work together on the same goal. Like reactivating a plant that converts saltwater into drinkable water, Reactivating powerplants, etc. Things that no single group could do on their own, unless they are half of a servers population. As long as there is nothing you'd need another player for, there is no need to keep any other player alive.

    DayZ Developer Blog 8th March

Not liking to kill and not being good at it, are two different things. I usually win pvp encounters, unless i get shot in the back without a chance to react. But that doesn't necessarily mean that I want to waste my time running around and hunting other players. I don't see any sense in that. I don't know why I should want to do that. What's wrong with that? If you want a game, that's like any other game, why would anyone bother to make or play it? if you look back the last 6 month what people praised about dayz, it's usually not the genious pvp concept, but rather the genius Sandbox attempt. I agree that removing pvp completely is not the way to go. But everyone saying that pvp is the only way to play a game because every other game wants you to pvp and dayz is a game too, is just ridiculously stupid and ignorant.

    Epeen - Action key 20?

my solution: buy a cheap usb-keyboard and use that for gaming :-) The additional bonus is, that I now no longer fear destroying my macbooks keyboard by pushing the buttons to aggressively.

    what do you think when.....

staying calm is the best way to survive. I wouldn't say kill more, I'd say die more. I had to die a couple times before I cared little enough to stay calm and survive.
  8. If you installed it via steam, the key is already included. If you start the game to start-screen, the keys are added to your registry, so other launchers (six, commander) find it too.

What Have you Done to Survive?

I got pinned down in a tent in stary with a friend. The attacker killed my friend immediately and injured me pretty well. I managed to bandage up, but my blood was already blinking and screen was pretty white. I laid there for a few minutes, knowing the guy has to be out there somewhere. When he showed his face in front of the tent, I unloaded my g17 clip into his chest. I didn't have any other weapon at that moment. It seemed to have worked, as he didn't come back. After about 10 more minutes and passing out 2x I decided that waiting for my friend to come back to stary is too long, so I tried to get to the supermarket. It took me about 10-15 minutes, crawling through stary on my belly, passing out several times on my way before i finally reached the supermarket, to find enough cans there to feed me back to color-vision. crawling through stary with almost no vision is intense.

Too much pvp not enough survival

Actually, it's an Anti-Materiel-Weapon, designed to be used on vehicles, in contrast to anti-personel-weapons, designed to kill people. But in general it should be categorized with rocket-launchers, rather than sniper-rifles. That you can use these rifles with a backpack, something you can't in arma 2, makes them even more interesting for players to use. Imagine if you couldn't use a backpack using Anti-Materiel-Weapons or LMGs, like you can't in arma. I don't think they would stay as popular. Especially if you reduced the spawnrates for their ammo to something more realistic. Having 10 bullets for AS50 on a server makes it difficult to go on daily kill-sprees with it, but still make it a vital tool to get down enemy helicopters or to stop an URAL approaching your base.
  11. I think a bandit stands for everything he does. Switching servers, changing names to avoid people knowing you are a bandit. Begging for weapons and cars, just to betray the people. Those are no treats of a bandit. A bandit has to honor the game. When he robs people, he lets them know he robs them. People who just want to piss others off are trolls and people who kill not to be killed themselves are cowards. The bandit doesn't shoot out of fear to be killed himself. The bandit does not fear being killed. The bandit thinks about creative and funny ways to rob and kill people. But he always trusts, that he is better than the others. So good in fact, that he doesn't need to cheat, to prove that he's better than everyone else. Depends on the camp. I looted some guys camp for more than a week once, before I cleaned out everything and changed the parking-spot of all their vehicles. Was a nice camp I made myself using their stuff... If it is some noobs camp in the forest, 1 tent, some basic gear in it.. why destroy it? maybe he thinks you won't come back and continues to put stuff in. But If it's the base of a very aggressive clan, you should look in the surrounding area if they have any extended camps as a backup. You wouldn't want to have them be able to use their backup-gear, would you :-D I also destroy camps if they have an unfair amount of cars there. I hate it when clans horde the cars in their camp and no one else can find one. But nothing the team of DayZ Horders can't fix.
  12. Some people tend to forget that not all people think that zombies are easy. it takes a while until they are boring. Most older players here started, when there was less useless KoS going on as it is now, so they had enough time to get to know the game. Many new players come to servers, not knowing what the game is about, and get shot 10 times before even finding any good loot whatsoever. I don't see why anyone would not understand why they have the wish to get into the game without being shot in the back all the time. If you know chernarus, and can read the zombies, you know all the good loot-spots. It's completely different. I also started on a friendly-server, played there for 2-3 weeks and we tried primarily to avoid groups and learn to raid towns without getting killed by zombies. When it got boring that the admin-friends had all the good gear and all the cars, we switched to another server. But I wouldn't have wanted to start on one of the more active servers that are on nowadays. I wouldn't have liked the game much.

    Hostage mode

I think it should be possible to search someone, in means of looking what he has on his body, while he is in surrender-mode. this would allow robbery, searching people for specific items (cherno police is going to love that) but prevent people stealing from your body without you knowing.

    Kicked from every server?

doesn't it say anything more than "you have been kicked"? usually there's a difference wether battle-eye kicks you by script or you get kicked by an admin. If you get kicked as soon as your character creates, you might look if there is red text saying that battle-eye update failed. I get regularly kicked by many servers until one finally manages to establish the connection to update. But that usually happens after 1 or 2 minutes on the server, not immediately on clicking ok. (except you click the "ok" on the left side, that says "server controls", that kicks on click)

    Dayz for Laptops

In general, Mobile Graphics are weaker than the regular Versions. The strongest Cards therefor are not avaliable for notebooks (too big, too much power needed). I'd say the best notebook graphics are comparable to good pc cards. So if you have a laptop that is strong enough, it is playable, but If you consider buying a computer just or mainly for gaming, always go for the real thing. If you want to go as cheap as possible, forget gaming on laptops.
  16. It is also to be expected, that the new chernarus map is not an exclusive-development for dayZ. I strongly expect that map to be in Arma III.
  17. my cents: no electricity -> turn them off; electricity -> off, but can be turned on by players. But just imagining how fucked you'd feel, if you looted the Airfield, and suddenly all the lights went on... beautiful... Not to mention, that it's a very neat way for a sniper to get himself some NVGs. Blinding other players isn't done enough these days :-D

    Favourite weapon?

Zombies: mp5 SD, CCO SD Players: m14 AIM. That thing got me out of some nasty situations. I enjoy having a sniper-rifle tough, as it is faster to look through the scope, than getting out your binocs. As I hardly ever shoot, and if usually on legs or head, the damage of the gun doesn't really concern me. (as50 from the hips is boring)

What Kind of Player Are YOU?

I am usually the passive player. When there are man people on, i usually proceed very cautious. If I see other players I observe from distance and avoid confrontation. I give every player the benefit of doubt, and only engage those players who attack me first and leave me no way to escape safely. I always try to give players that are approaching me a warning by voice, giving them enough time to react. But of course, if I catch reports about a sniper in my area and I see someone matching that description, he's toast. Not killing me with the first shot and being in range for my gun is the last mistake one makes. Not looking behind me is usually the last one I make. haha, I know the feeling. I was running around a while. M9 SD, CCO SD equipped, AS50 in backpack. Managed not to shoot a singe bullet with as50 and only 1 mag with cco SD in a week, because I only evaded the zombies, lost them in bushes or took them down with my m9. For a while, when mp5SD was very common, I had 3 of them in my tent and was always running around completely empty, with just mp5SD and 4 m9SD mags equipped, because I didn't really need much more, and if I died, I just ran back to my tent, getting another one, without risking my "collectibles" Sad thing is.. the only reason I wanted to find m107 and as50 was to have them in my tent. I think I shot 2 or 3 bullets with those rifles ever, even tough I owned 3 m107 and 5 as50s when I had my own server...

Personally, I understand why you are doing it. Especially on private servers, the owner has the right to make the rules. As I am seeing a trend tough, I would recommend to rethink on wether your priority is to give as many true players a good gaming experience as possible or having no hacker on your server. Once a server has a certain reputation, about not giving a shit about his users, there wont be any people going there, but even more hackers be attracted, as they might think the server-admins deserve it more than others. I am not saying, that this is how it has to turn out, but there is a certain risk involved, when berserking against hackers, that the collateral damage might harm the community of your servers. You, of course, have the right to do whatever you want with the server. you can close it, password-protect it or change it to host another game at any time you want. But if your goal is to provide a home for many happy players for a long time, I do not think bashing every suspect without mercy is the best way to do so. thx if you consider it,but ignore it if you don't agree. It's just my opinion.

How does trading in this even work?

on vanilla, except for "i'll drop it in this zombie-corpse, you in that one over there", there isn't much you can do to protect yourself. But there isn't money so trading isn't really a feature atm. Some maps offer trading zones, where you get banned if you kill people. this helps in making trades more safe, but causes the problem, that some people don't think safe-zones should be part of dayZ. But the only non-NPC, non-Safezone version of trade I could come up with, would be a bunker-type, with two entrances on opposite sides, a wall in the middle, and a stash that can be accessed from both sides. The only system I could come up with so far, that would give a barrier, so people couldn't shoot each other; allow to exchange items and a somewhat safe retreat, as both parties exit on different sides. Personally I think, this is something, that depends a lot on how the "Story" around the whole zombie-incident will be. Depending on how events unfolded to the day, that symbolizes the first spawning of any player, some solutions would make more or less sense. Also the still open decision on wether to use NPCs or not, makes a lot of difference. tl;dr: lots of issues to think about, when tackling trade, but at the moment, trading is "all your gear, for a bullet to your head" edit: True, people are often nice. But more often I get stuff others don't need for free, or we exchange free stuff, rather than trading, including barter. On rare occasions, some clans offered "wheel for dmr" or "wheel for ghillie" on side, when they wanted a car fixed, but I'd consider that to be a quest, rather than trade. But there are also these "wanna trade?" "no, thx" "you got a nice gun" "oh, yeah, thanks" "that wasn't a compliment. drop it, or I drop you" -events, that can piss one off.. kinda takes the use out of trade, if the other one can just take what he wants.

    VERY confused about Backpacks.

If i get it right, they are currently trying to change the way backpacks store stuff. You might have read somewhere that they have an individual value for max weapons, so that weapons are no longer just "10 slots"or "5 slots". I cannot tell you why, but this feature just isn't working right now, so all the backpacks care about are the new slot-values. I too think it's confusing, especially as some private-hives custom-changed the values for their backpacks, making it practically impossible to know how many slots any backpack has. Alice/czech/coyote backpack are usually between 18 and 30 slots. Depending on mod and server. I got used to opening the backpack I found, opening my own backpack and comparing how much they can hold. At the moment, I don't even try to remember which backpack contains what. I expect that to change, so learning what it is now is kind of useless.

    Scavenge items

I understand the idea you have and why you thought of that. There will be a "spawn-on-serverstart"-mechanic in standalone. But the "no-respawn"-issue is something that could cause problems. If implemented, the most popular servers, with the most people on them, will usually run out of loot the first. As the hive allows to switch servers, the most popular way to get what you need then, will be to switch to another server and loot that. Also, hose servers rebooting the most often, would have the most loot. I think some sort of loot-cycle. Be it 3, 4 or 6 hours would be nice to have. Just to balance between servers that are rebooted 2,3 and 4 times a day (or more often). Those are all things that a developer has to take into consideration when implementing a feature like that. I personally, would solve Spawning by Servertime. every 3 or 4 hours. So it doesn't matter if you rebooted 10min ago or 10 hours. Loot spawns, when it's supposed to spawn and it makes no difference considering loot wether there are more or less people and reboots. All Servers would spawn at around the same time (+/- a couple minutes), no matter how many people there are. You'd just have to solve issues regarding people just wanting to pick up stuff when it cycles, but you should be able to implement that only loot changes when there is no player closer than a couple meters. Those with people closer, are marked to be changed as soon as there is no one around anymore.

Some admins are just jerks. Seen noobs getting banned for finding a weapon, they just didn't know couldn't spawn there, because the admin said the gun was hacked. I myself was accused of hacking several times, because some guy shot at me 3x and was convinced that he hit me all 3 times but I had to be a hacker because I'm still alive. Luckily never combined with a douche-admin who gave into that. But there is a lot of paranoia out there. Just look on twitch. whenever a stream has an error, for whatever reason, the chats are spammed with "ddos???" lines. People = stupid.
  25. Had the experience a couple times, that how someone reacts to getting killed, can make all the difference. Watched in side where people apologized for the misunderstanding and guarded the corpse until the victim was back. It's kinda funny to read a conversation in side-chat, where someone apologizes for killing someone else. My personal most annoying death was my friend mistaking "stop, I'm gettting out of the car" with "just drive over me bro"... Death that were my own fault: Thinking it is a good decision to climb on the Tower on green mountain to see where that guy is hiding in the bushes... Had a bullet in my head before I even knew the direction he was at... damn noob mistake back then...
